Notion Post Launch Optimization TemplateSignup to a Notion accountI've witnessed this scenario countless times: organizations invest substantial resources into launching a new website, only to neglect post-launch optimization once it goes live. This oversight is a critical mistake that can significantly undermine the long-term success of your digital presence. Today, let's delve into the crucial topic of post-launch optimization and explore why many organizations are failing to capitalize on this essential process. The Post-Launch Optimization ChallengeWhen it comes to post-launch website management, many organizations typically fall into one of two categories:They completely abandon post-launch optimization, treating the website as a "set it and forget it" project. They implement sporadic updates, primarily focusing on adding new features or updating information, without a structured post-launch optimization strategy. Both of these approaches miss a critical opportunity in the post-launch phase: leveraging real-world data to enhance the website's effectiveness in meeting organizational objectives. This oversight isn't just a minor misstep—it's a significant waste of potential and a failure to implement proper post-launch optimization techniques.Consider this: it's only after a website goes live that we begin gathering authentic data about user interactions. This post-launch data is invaluable for improving your site's performance through targeted optimization efforts, yet it often goes unused.Harnessing the Power of Post-Launch Data for OptimizationLet's explore an example of how we can leverage post-launch data for effective optimization. Tools like Microsoft Clarity can provide crucial insights into user behavior, enabling targeted post-launch optimization. Through these tools, we can identify:Key exit points where users are abandoning the siteInstances of excessive "rage clicking," signaling areas in need of immediate improvementMoments where users click on non-clickable elements, highlighting opportunities for interface improvementsUnusual scrolling patterns that can guide our strategyQuick returns to previous pages, indicating potential issues to addressAll these behaviors serve as red flags, indicating potential issues with specific pages or user flows that require attention in your post-launch optimization efforts. However, identifying these problems is just the initial step. The real challenge—and the key to successful—lies in how we process and act on this valuable information to continuously improve our website's performance.Microsoft Clarity is invaluable for identifying areas for improvement post-launch.From Data to Action: A Structured ApproachOnce we've pinpointed problem areas using tools like heat maps and session recordings, we need a systematic way to form hypotheses and test improvements. This is where many organizations falter. They either ignore the data entirely or make knee-jerk changes based on individual opinions rather than evidence. What we need is a structured process for managing and prioritizing potential improvements. To help with this, I've created a Notion template that demonstrates how to structure a post-launch optimization backlog. You can access this template here. Additionally, I've recorded a video walking through the process, which you can watch below:[Insert video embed code here] Now, let me walk you through my approach to this challenge:1. Idea SubmissionCreate a system where anyone in the organization can submit improvement proposals. Each proposal should include:A concise description of the proposed changeSupporting data (e.g., screen recordings, screenshots, analytics)Evidence justifying the proposalEstimated impact and effort requiredPotential implementation barriersThis approach ensures that all ideas are considered and backed by some level of evidence.Any suggested improvement should come with a written proposal explaining why it deserves consideration.2. Internal ReviewOnce proposals are submitted, they need to be reviewed internally. The most viable options should be selected based on:Effort requiredLikelihood of successTarget audience importancePotential impactThis step helps prioritize resources and focus on changes that are most likely to yield significant improvements.3. Test PlanningFor proposals that make it through the review process, the next step is to create a detailed test plan. This should include:Test methodologySuccess metricsEstimated impactRequired effortAny constraints or weaknesses in the testing processA well-thought-out test plan ensures that you're not just making changes for the sake of change, but actually measuring the impact of your optimizations. Before implementing a proposal, create a test plan.4. Test Execution and ReportingOnce the test plan is approved and scheduled, it's time to run the test. After completion, a report should be prepared, including:A description of the testSummary of findingsDetailed test methodologyData collectedRecommendations for next stepsThis report serves as the basis for deciding whether to implement the change, refine and retest, or abandon the idea altogether. After testing a proposal, create a report and evaluate the results. Only then should it proceed to production.5. Implementation or IterationIf the test results are favorable, move forward with implementing the change on your live site. If not, consider refining the approach and running another test, or move on to the next proposal in your backlog. The Benefits of Structured Post-Launch OptimizationBy adopting this kind of structured approach to post-launch optimization, you stand to gain several benefits:Data-Driven Decision Making: You're basing changes on real user behavior, not just hunches or opinions.Continuous Improvement: Your website becomes a living, evolving entity that gets better over time.Resource Efficiency: By prioritizing and testing changes, you avoid wasting time and money on ineffective updates.Organizational Alignment: The structured process helps align different departments around common goals for the website.Better User Experience: Ultimately, this approach leads to a website that better serves your users' needs.Overcoming Common ObstaclesOf course, implementing such a process isn't without its challenges. You might encounter resistance from team members who are used to making changes based on gut feelings or who are resistant to the additional steps involved. Here are some strategies to overcome these obstacles:Education: Help your team understand the value of data-driven optimization. Share case studies and success stories.Start Small: Begin with a pilot project to demonstrate the effectiveness of the process.Streamline: Use project management tools to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible. For example, you might want to make use of the sample post launch optimization Notion template I have provided.Celebrate Wins: Highlight successful optimizations to build momentum and buy-in.Remember, the goal isn't to create bureaucracy, but to ensure that every change you make to your website is purposeful and impactful. Conclusion: Embracing Continuous ImprovementPost-launch optimization isn't just about fixing what's broken—it's about continuously improving your website's ability to meet both user needs and organizational objectives. By implementing a structured, data-driven approach to post-launch optimization, you can turn your website from a static digital brochure into a dynamic, ever-improving asset.Don't let your website stagnate after launch. Embrace the power of post-launch data, implement a structured optimization process, and watch as your website's performance improves over time. Your users—and your bottom line—will thank you.If you need help with post-launch optimization for your website, just reach out! I'd love to chat about how we can customize this strategy to fit your needs and goals. You can also learn more about this approach and other methods of improving your site's effectiveness with my workshop on conversion optimization.

This episode of the Six Figure Author Experiment podcast focuses on post-launch strategies and marketing techniques for indie authors, featuring a detailed discussion with guest Mike from Written Word Media. The conversation explores the effectiveness of various advertising strategies, including the use of Facebook, Instagram, and Amazon ads, with an emphasis on the importance of testing different ad creatives and understanding the nuances of different platforms.Key Discussion Points:* Post-Launch Reflection:* Russell reflects on his recent book launch, noting that despite a detailed pre-launch plan, he executed minimal promotional activities aside from running Facebook and Amazon ads and sending a few emails. The discussion highlights the importance of post-launch analysis to understand what worked and what didn't.* Advertising Strategies:* Mike explains the benefits of using Written Word Media's Reader Reach ads, which run on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Amazon, tailored specifically for indie authors. He emphasizes the importance of focusing on data-driven decisions, such as analyzing which ads perform best to optimize future campaigns.* Data and Feedback:* Russell and Mike discuss the importance of receiving detailed feedback on ad performance, including metrics like clicks and impressions, to improve future ad campaigns. Russell expresses a desire for more granular data to understand which specific ad creatives and keywords are most effective.* Pricing Strategy:* The conversation delves into pricing strategies for book series, with recommendations to heavily discount or make the first book in a series free to attract readers and drive sales for subsequent books at full price. The hosts debate the effectiveness of discounting later books in a series.* Long-Term Marketing Approach:* The episode emphasizes the need for a long-term perspective on book marketing, treating the launch as a continuous process rather than a one-time event. This includes ongoing promotion through influencer outreach, TikTok ads, and other channels, to keep momentum going even months after the initial launch.* Direct Sales and Conversion Ads:* A significant portion of the discussion is dedicated to the advantages of running direct sales ads and using conversion events to optimize ad performance. Mike introduces the idea of using meta's conversion pixel for better targeting and efficiency in ad campaigns, especially for direct sales through an author's website.* Lead Generation:* The hosts also touch on the effectiveness of lead generation ads for building an email list, discussing benchmarks for cost per lead and the importance of list quality over quantity.Final Thoughts:The episode provides a comprehensive look at the complexities of book marketing, emphasizing the importance of continuous testing, data analysis, and a long-term approach to building and sustaining book sales. The key takeaway is that effective marketing for indie authors requires a combination of strategic ad spending, price promotions, and ongoing engagement with readers. This is a public episode. Book Marketing Agency's Expertise and Focus Chris Benetti, the owner of Smart Author Media, a book marketing agency, discussed his expertise and the agency's focus on helping business owners sell books. Chris has been in the marketing field for about eight years, and his agency's main objective is to assist clients in generating leads and clients through book sales. The discussion also touched on Chris's journey in marketing, his initial years of learning and experimentation, and the last four years of more refined direction. The conversation concluded with Michael D. Levitt expressing interest in why Chris's agency chose to specialize in working with authors. Post-Launch Book Marketing Opportunity Discussed Chris Benetti discussed the opportunity he identified in the marketplace, where there was a lack of services to help published authors market their books effectively post-launch. He shared his approach of taking a holistic view of the entire process, from building book funnels to running ads, with the goal of maximizing sales for authors. He also emphasized their team's readiness to take full responsibility for the campaigns and the unique approach of not relying on clients for creatives and inputs. Michael D. Levitt agreed with Chris's approach, highlighting the importance of marketing strategies that respond to the specific needs of each book and author. Advertising Validation Process Discussed Chris Benetti discussed the process of running ads for clients, which involves a validation period of 30 days to determine what works best. He explained that they go through a checklist of changes to ad elements based on metrics, such as ad headline, copy, creative, or offer. He emphasized the importance of patience, as ads often don't work right away and require testing and validation. Michael D. Levitt highlighted the need for patience in the process, citing Jeff Bezos' approach to Amazon's early days as an example. Marketing Campaigns: Test, Target, Invest, Maintain Momentum Michael D. Levitt emphasized the importance of patience and experimentation in marketing campaigns, using the analogy of fishing. He suggested starting with a reasonable investment to run tests and identify the target market. Once the target is identified, additional resources can be brought in to maximize results. Chris Benetti agreed with the idea of investing in good creatives in the advertising space, mentioning that a well-crafted creative can maintain momentum for a long time, even without any changes. Testing and Experimentation in Client Work Chris Benetti discussed the importance of testing and experimentation in their work with clients, emphasizing the value of learning from past successes across different clients. He suggested that they have a bank of proven and tested creatives that can be used with new clients. He also stressed the need for a testing cadence and budgeting for each ad. Michael D. Levitt agreed, drawing parallels with cooking and experimentation. He highlighted the importance of learning from past campaigns and not expecting immediate success with new ones. Both agreed on the importance of the long game in their approach. Investing in Business and Authorship Michael and Chris discussed the importance of investing time and resources into a business or authorship for long-term returns. They highlighted the concept of Return on Investment (ROI) and the need to spend money wisely to make money. Chris shared the example of a friend making money from his book through add-ons and additional offers. They emphasized that the book is often just the beginning, with the real profits coming from the add-ons. Chris also pointed out the potential of nurturing book buyers and offering them higher priced products in the future. Book Marketing and Advertising Resources Chris Benetti discussed the resources available on smartauthor.com and their Youtube channel for book marketing and advertising

In this episode of The Digital Business Evolution Podcast, Jess drops some practical advice for entrepreneurs to follow when it comes to a launch. Jess dissects the four phases of the launch process: the Pre-Pre Launch, the Pre-Launch, the Launch, and what Jess says is the most important, the Post-Launch. Jess walks us through the post-launch and emphasizes that during this phase– numbers reign supreme. But, as Jess also notes, it is incredibly important to remember which numbers you are taking into consideration. We can have a successful launch as far as the amount of money we bring in, but if we solely focus on the hard-hitting metrics, we can quickly trade in our feelings of success for unworthiness. Jess closes out the episode by reminding us that our clients deserve us taking the time to do a proper post-launch review. When we do so, it leads us and our business to scalability, sustainability, and profitability. As always, cheers to your evolution! So how do you create a product that stands out from the rest and supercedes the price war to finally dominate in your market? Getting your product to sell like hot cakes relies on having a strong brand with raving fans. So here is how you are going to maximize your product-based business the big brand way: ✅ Define your product's value proposition. Ask yourself, “Why did I create my product?” Then, “What gap am I trying to fill?” ✅ Who is your ideal customer? Focus on that ONE person - they will be your content North Star. You create marketing and messaging to speak to them. You want to identify just ONE though, not three different ideal customers. It will dilute and fragment your messaging. ✅ Choose your product suite. Define what your customer is looking for as a starting point, and then what products will take them through the end of their journey to solve a problem. But you will focus on the starting point product to build an unforgettable message for your customers. ✅ Unforgettable messaging = EMOTION. What is the desire that is wrapped up in your product? Here is an exercise to consider. What do you think Louis Vuitton or Tesla sell? It isn't a product, it's an experience. And this experience is what makes your product unforgettable. Some big things have been happening in my world, and today I wanted to check in and talk a little bit about what's been happening over here. I fill you in on the super successful launch of my new program, The Mastermind Model, and share the wild ride that was manifesting our new dream home. Five or six years ago, I was starting this business from the dining room table of our one-bedroom tiny apartment. Today, I'm coming at you from a large office space within an incredible house that's quite honestly my dream home. I share the process of how my husband and I tapped into all our manifestation tools, and encourage you to see the possibility and potential for amazing opportunities in your own life. I talk about getting clarity around what you really want, and how stepping out to put things in motion can facilitate that deep understanding. I also discuss trusting your own intuition when it comes to making a change, and taking action when you feel like something in your life may be misaligned. I share the different challenges that came with buying our new home, and the risks we took despite others calling us crazy. When it comes to the process of manifesting, things aren't going to necessarily always work out the way you hope. You may need to take a risk or do something you didn't expect. But being willing to do the uncomfortable things, knowing that it's all part of the process, will help you bring to life the things that you're wanting. Whether you're calling in your dream home or manifesting something in your business, I hope you're encouraged to take the learnings in this episode and apply them to your own manifestation journey. Leigh Campbell, cofounder of Brillo Beauty, is on the Female Founder World podcast with Jasmine Garnsworthy! Leigh is an OG beauty girlie. She hosts Australia's largest beauty podcast called YouBeauty, which also has a Facebook group with more than 75,000 members, was Beauty Director at Cosmopolitan Magazine Australia, then Head of Lifestyle at Huffington Post in Australia, and is now at Mamamia—a huge women's publishing and podcasting brand in Australia. Recently she cofounded a beauty brand called Brillo Beauty just five months ago, and we spend a lot of time in this ep talking about how she spotted a gap in the market in a very crowded beauty industry, finding a cofounder, overcoming her fear to start her own business, and how Brillo got traction. It's not often we get to hear from someone really on the ground floor of something that I think is going to be huge, and I think it's really helpful for anyone who is in the early days of their own founder story. Leigh and her cofounder invested $260,000 of their own money to start Brillo, and made $180,000 back in the first three months of business just through sales on the website. We have a full breakdown of how they spent that first investment too: the website cost $5k, formulation and all the testing you need to launch a beauty product was $30k, their first run of product including packaging was $150k, they spend another $50k on branding and content, $10k on legal and admin, and another $15k or so on other random startup costs. Everyone feels different after they are done working on something big: a book, that speaking event, or planning that large company retreat. Of all the busy-busy things you can get distracted with after your sales funnel is launched, and of all the things you can track, it's clear to me that there are only 2 things to track to get the greatest ROI (and they "release you" also)... I'm talking about automating a funnel post-launch right after the funnel is out of the door. This is so that you can remove yourself without killing the funnel. These 2 KPIs are from a marketing sense, and remember, I have previously said that marketing is measured in leads. If it didn't create a lead, it wasn't marketing. This week, Max Saltonstall and Stephanie Wong go behind the scenes at Google Cloud with Gabe Weiss and Anita Kibunguchy-Grant to learn how new products move from idea to market. To start, our guests walk us through a typical end-to-end life cycle as Google creates new and exciting products for users. Starting with a problem sometimes brought to light by users, a solution is workshopped, and a team is brought together to tackle the issue. Once the product is workable, Gabe and his team step in to evaluate and pass it on to Anita for market launch. With examples like BigQuery Omni and AlloyDB, Anita and Gabe walk us through a real launch scenario, from naming the product to promotion and observing the satisfying impacts of a product solving real-world problems. Anita details the three phases of a product launch and which teams are involved. The phases are pre-launch, during launch, and post-launch. In pre-launch, things like naming and messaging are crafted, priority is assigned via tier assignment, and plans are made to interact with various promotional and other teams who may need to be involved with the launch. Launch day activities are coordinated next as various marketing avenues are leveraged for maximum visibility and development teams work together to make the technical side successful. Post-Launch involves some debriefing on the success of the marketing as well as analysis of use, press coverage, page views, revenue, sentiment among users, and enabling sales teams for success. Gabe talks about the importance of his team in the process as they test products for customer usability and QA before launch as well. He and Anita elaborate on the differences with Google launches versus other companies, including the stages involved in launch and the naming of these stages. Many launches are done at big Google Cloud events, like Google I/O, Anita points out as a unique feature of Google, which can be a gift and a curse. Challenges are addressed as our guests talk us through possible problems and the ways launch teams address them. Anita and Gabe emphasize empathy and communication in product launching and the importance of clear, productive feedback. Anita Kibunguchy-Grant Anita Kibunguchy-Grant is a Product Marketing Lead at Google with extensive experience across Data Analytics and Databases products and solutions. Before Google, she led awareness and go-to-market programs at VMware. She has an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and is passionate about helping customers use data and technology to transform their businesses. Gabe Weiss Gabe leads the database advocacy team for the Google Cloud Platform team ensuring that developers can make awesome things, both inside and outside of Google. Prior to Google he's worked in virtual reality production and distribution, source control, the games industry, and professional acting. Keeping our future clients in mind, Jess suggests several different metrics to take into account to get a better understanding of the story the numbers are trying to tell. While some may be difficult to measure– Impact, for example– they are worth bringing the team together to review in order to make the next launch even better. Jess closes out the episode by reminding us that our clients deserve us taking the time to do a proper post-launch review. When we do so, it leads us and our business to scalability, sustainability, and profitability. As always, cheers to your evolution! Episode Quotes “Allow the data and your metrics to tell a story without emotion.” –Jessica DeRose “Just celebrate the heck out of your clients, the progress that you're making, the growth that you've had, the impact that you're making, and the fact that you get to do this.” –Jessica DeRose Key Timestamps [0:46] – Introduction of today's episode; [0:50] – What goes into a launch; [1:58] – The four phases of a launch; [5:48] – Math is the path; [7:31] – Using numbers to inform business decisions; [9:48] – Even in the face of success, we can still feel unworthy; [11:15] – Measuring growth to take action; [15:00] – Other metrics to look for in your business; [15:03] – General overview metric; [16:39] – Opt-in/Free experience metric; [18:40] – Sales metric; [19:48] – Impact metric; [24:58] – Jess's reminders for launch; [29:54] – Detach from the outcome; [31:45] – Closing thoughts and what our future clients deserve Episode Resources Be a part of my text family by texting “Podcast” to 973-358-7836.
