As the calendar turns to 2026, Bill and Andy Bush kick off the new year by breaking down key changes affecting higher-income 401(k) participants—most notably the new SECURE 2.0 rules requiring Roth catch-up contributions for certain earners. They unpack who the rules apply to, how they intersect with other income thresholds, and why many six-figure earners still feel behind despite strong incomes. Along the way, the brothers share practical New Year's resolutions that actually move the needle: optimizing (not just maxing) your 401(k), improving tax efficiency, managing emotions, reducing complexity, and defining what "enough" really means so your money supports both your future and your life today.   ⏱ Episode Timeline & Key Topics 00:08 – Welcome & Happy New Year Bill and Andy kick off the first episode of 2026, reflecting on the new year and why this episode revisits financial "reset" themes—especially for higher-income participants. 00:45 – Why This Episode Matters Right Now The brothers recap last year's New Year–focused episode and explain why 2026 brings new wrinkles in the 401(k) world that deserve attention. 01:15 – SECURE 2.0 Roth Catch-Up Rule Explained Introduction of the new rule requiring Roth catch-up contributions for certain high earners: Age 50+ Prior-year wages of $150,000+ Catch-up contributions must be Roth (after-tax) 02:30 – Who Is (and Isn't) Subject to the Rule Clarification on: W-2 wages (Box 3) Why K-1 partners without W-2 income are exempt Catch-ups are still allowed—just not required to be Roth for exempt participants 03:45 – Implementation Challenges & Plan Decisions Discussion on delayed rollout, transition relief, and why some plans chose to eliminate catch-ups rather than add Roth complexity. 04:10 – Super Catch-Up Contributions (Ages 60–63) Overview of the enhanced "super catch-up": $11,250 limit for ages 60–63 What happens when you turn 64 Why planning matters during this short window 04:55 – Three Different "High Income" Definitions Breaking down commonly confused thresholds: $150,000 (Roth catch-up rule) $160,000 (Highly Compensated Employee testing) $184,500 (Social Security wage base for 2026) 05:45 – Six-Figure Earners Living Paycheck to Paycheck Why many high earners still feel financially stretched—and how lifestyle expansion plays a major role. 06:45 – Spending vs. Saving: The Real Challenge Why high earners often save well—but still struggle: Lifestyle creep Complex financial lives Income replacement challenges in retirement 08:15 – Roth Trade-Offs for High Earners Pros and cons of being "forced" into Roth catch-ups: Paying taxes now vs. later Short vs. long runways Impact on retirement income planning 09:50 – Retirement Tax Planning & IRMAA Considerations How different account types affect: Medicare IRMAA surcharges Taxable income in retirement Withdrawal flexibility 10:40 – Why HSAs Deserve Special Attention HSAs as one of the most tax-efficient retirement tools—especially for those uncomfortable with Roth catch-ups. 11:30 – Roth vs. Taxable Brokerage Accounts Why Roth accounts offer long-term advantages over taxable investing for money you don't need immediately. 12:30 – Using Roth Assets Strategically Real-world examples: Large one-time expenses in retirement Legacy planning for heirs Flexibility when income spikes matter

The college football season may be over, but the business of the sport is booming. Super agent Hadley Engelhardt and Matt Chernoff break down how Curt Cignetti took Indiana from the bottom of college football to a national championship — and a nearly $15 million payday. What does that kind of financial leap mean in the NIL and transfer portal era, and is Indiana’s run a blueprint or a perfect storm? The guys also dive into the College Football Playoff money machine, including sky-high ticket prices, nearly $250 million in postseason ad revenue, and what expansion to 16 teams could mean for TV networks, conferences, and fans. Plus, how academics and the transfer portal calendar may finally force real change. From there, it’s the NFL coaching carousel, where leverage, timing, and agents shape decisions — including why Atlanta moved fast to hire Kevin Stefanski. Finally, the business of baseball takes center stage with the Dodgers’ latest blockbuster: Kyle Tucker’s $240 million deal, complete with deferrals, opt-outs, and big implications for parity and the next MLB CBA.

In the very first episode of the How to Lead - 2025 Edition series, Julia explores the concept of followership with Ruth Sims, who brings a research-informed perspective to a topic often overlooked in conversations about leading. Ruth reframes followership as an active choice, not a passive role. You'll hear why deciding to follow comes before any leader's bid for attention, how those roles shift constantly in modern organisations, and which leadership missteps like micromanagement, poor communication or lack of direction cause followers to disengage. Ruth introduces two key dimensions of followership: Deferral: stepping back, allowing the leader to lead while still engaging and asking clarifying questions. Support: stepping up to help the leader succeed through effort, advice, feedback, and shared purpose. Listen to this episode to rethink the assumption that leading is always about being in charge and discover how following well can be just as powerful, intentional, and impactful as leading. About the Guest: An organisational development and communications professional based in Australia with global connections into leadership and followership communities. Dr Ruth Sims brings a unique, research-based and expert understanding of followership and the difference that effective followership can make in your organisation.

Last week, Finance Minister, Nicola Willis, announced her ‘growth' Budget for 2025. In the Budget, multiple initiatives received a boost in funding.  Operational funding and capital funding for Māori education received a $54 million boost and $50 million boost respectively for Māori learner success, with a $14 million injection for Māori wardens, Pacific wardens, and the Māori women's welfare league. However, a variety of Māori initiatives have faced substantial cuts. The Māori Development Fund has had $20 million cut over four years, $32.5 million has been cut from Māori housing initiatives, and $375.5 million cut to the Kāhui Ako programme. Labour's Māori Development spokesperson, Willie Jackson, claims that overall, in Budget 2025, Māori initiatives are seeing cuts of roughly $750 million. For our weekly catchup, News and Editorial Director and Monday Wire Host, Joel, spoke to Te Pāti Māori's Takutai Kemp about Budget 2025 and it's impacts on Māori initiatives. They also spoke about the debate on the potential suspension of Te Pāti Māori co-leaders, Rawiri Waititi, and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, and MP Hana Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, being pushed back prior to the Budget debate.  As well as this, notably, during the Budget debate itself, both Waititi and Ngarewa-Packer were absent. However, they first discussed the 2025 Budget and Māori initiatives

Wildfires impacting large areas of California are contributing to higher auto insurance costs in the state and more deferral offerings from lenders for affected borrowers.  The annual cost of full-coverage car insurance in California rose 47.8% year over year in December to $2,575, compare with the average cost across the U.S. of $2,313. The current fires started Jan. 7.  Meanwhile, lenders' funding activity is off to a strong start in 2025 with several issuing asset-backed securitization (ABS) deals. Lendbuzz issued its first auto ABS deal of the year, joining a wave of transactions during the first two weeks.  Southern Auto Finance Co. also secured a $100 million warehouse facility with Deutsche Bank and extended its facility with Capital One.  Auto sales were strong in the fourth quarter of 2024 across the major manufacturers, and EV sales are poised to pick up in the first quarter of 2025 ahead of the presidential administration change.  In this episode of “Weekly Wrap,” Auto Finance News Editor Amanda Harris and associate editors Ashley Savage and James Van Bramer discuss the top stories and trends impacting the automotive industry for the week ended Jan. 10.
