Preaching for the Fourth Sunday of Lent, Ogechi Akalegbere offers a reflection on living as beacons of hope and justice: "As we reflect on this Gospel passage and the message of Sister Thea Bowman, let us recommit ourselves to the work of building a more just and compassionate society. Let us pray for the courage and the strength to stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult. And let us never forget the words of Jesus, who reminds us that whatever we do for the least of our brothers and sisters, we do for him." Ogechi Akalegbere is a Nigerian-American who currently works as the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Washington. She previously served as the Christian Service Coordinator at an all-girls Independent Catholic School where she served as a diversity co-practitioner and ministry leader. Reclaim your roots! Our names can share much about where we came from, our culture, our family. Creative writer and podcast host Juliana Ogechi celebrates the stories behind names and how those stories help to transform lives.
In this episode, I speak with a fellow graduate of my high school, Ogechi Musa. Ogechi is now a full-time writer, director, actor, and producer. But that's not where she started. While a student at Boston College, Ogechi thought that she would pursue a career in medicine. Initially she thought she would be a doctor, but she ultimately landed on healthcare IT consulting and training. She was always passionate about acting and filmmaking, though, and pursued that, as well. After years of balancing two careers, Ogechi recently decided to follow her purpose, quit her six-figure job in healthcare, and pursue her career in independent filmmaking full-time. Dr. Ogechi Anyanwu is professor of history and director of African and African American studies at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. He just released “The Making of Mbano: British Colonialism, Resistance, and Diplomatic Engagements in Southeastern Nigeria, 1906–1960.” Mbano is a community located in the South-Eastern state of Imo State, Nigeria. The community spans two local government areas with about 400,000 people or the population size of Oklahoma City. In his book, Anyanwu repudiates the misrepresentation of the continent by providing authentic, ironclad proof that Africans—in this case, the Igbos of Mbano in Southeastern Nigeria—were resilient and unyielding to colonial mandates. We broke the Eve episode in half because there was just so much to say about her! Chiderah, Ogechi, and Lindsey continue on with the conversation about the punishment God gives Adam, Eve, and the serpent after their sin, and how we still see those consequences playing out in our lives today. The great news is Eve's story ends in triumph, and we'll give you the spoiler: His name is Jesus Christ.
Lindsey, Chiderah, and Ogechi discuss the "Mother of Life" herself, Eve. We all might think we know the story about the first woman and her delicious sin, but there are so many lessons to learn about God's design for womanhood, and His desire for intimacy with us from Eve's fateful story. We bet you've never journeyed this far into Eden!

There are several women identified as widows in the Bible; several of them nameless, but with memorable stories that show us the miraculous power of God, and his ability to turn tragedy into triumph. In the final episode of Season 2, Ogechi, Lindsey, and Chiderah explore the lessons learned from three such widows, specifically Anna, the Widow of Zarephath, and the story of the Widow with Two Coins (also known as The Widow's Mite or The Widow's Offering). Through their stories, we see how God is not only close to those who are helpless and hopeless, He is also faithful to see them (and us) through to redemption.
Julia discusses the parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke's gospel with fellow Catholic podcaster and content creator, Ogechi Akalegbere.
The sibling saga continues with Rachel & Leah, the mothers of the twelve tribes of Israel. In the latter half of their story (Genesis 31-35, 49) we see the two sisters put aside their rivalry to escape from their father Laban. Soon after, tragedy strikes, but the unlikely sister ends up taking her rightful place in history. Chiderah, Lindsey, and Ogechi continue their discussion about the sisters whose unfortunate shared marriage actually tells a beautiful tale of God's providence, faithfulness, and redemption.
They may be the mothers of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, but they're also the mothers of all messy sister-wife situations. In this episode Chiderah, Lindsey, and Ogechi discuss the sad but purposeful lives of Rachel and Leah. When Jacob meets the woman he wants to marry, her father tricks him into marrying her sister as well! What ensues is a sibling rivalry unlike any other, but God intervenes in a way that reminds us of His sovereignty. Who said the Bible was boring?! This drama is better than anything on daytime television.

Moses' older sister may not be the first person that comes to mind in the beautiful narrative about God's miraculous guidance of the people of Israel out of Egypt, but Miriam is a key character, and a great cautionary tale for the servant leader. Chiderah, Ogechi, and Lindsey discuss Miriam's boldness, courage and leadership as a prophetess and worship leader for the women of Israel, with God's everlasting favor upon her life, despite the pride in her heart.

The podcast "Tell Me If You Can" shares the stories of women in transition and growth in their lives and spirituality. Host Ogechi Akalegbere is able to pull stories out of her guests with deep and lively conversation. I really enjoyed talking to her.
There's much to learn about the faith and devotion of Hannah, who cried out to the Lord about her barren womb, but returned glory to Him once she received the blessing of her son Samuel. Chiderah, Lindsey, and Ogechi reflect on this all-too-common experience of womanhood: the anguish and endless waiting for something long hoped for.
The unnamed Samaritan woman at the well may seem like a minor character in the New Testament accounts of Jesus, but she truly isn't. In a brief but important exchange about identity, we learn a lot about her life (really, Jesus spills all the tea!) and a lot about our Savior. Ogechi, Lindsey & Chiderah are back for Season Two of Arrow Women!

In the last episode of our first season, Chiderah, Lindsey & Ogechi discuss the sisters Martha & Mary of Bethany. Found across the four gospels, these two inspiring women are noted as some of Jesus's closest friends, and we get to see the dynamics of their relationships with Him up close.
Found in the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), the character Mary Magdalene is the focus of today's conversation between Chiderah, Lindsey, and Ogechi. Mary, a woman from Magdala, becomes the closest person to Jesus after he heals her from seven demons causing severe mental illness.
TRIGGER WARNING: This episode includes a conversation about rape/sexual assault. Lindsey, Chiderah, and Ogechi discuss the story of Bathsheba–the beautiful bathing woman who became the target of King David's lustful desires. But after a series of unfortunate events God's redemption awards her a place in the lineage of Jesus Christ. From a place of pain and tragedy we learn about how Bathsheba becomes the Queen Mother, giving birth to David's son and eventual successor, King Solomon.

When a prophetess told young Ogechi that she was a Deborah in the making, she had no idea what that meant. Join us as we get to know the only female judge of Israel, and how her wisdom and courage led an army of 10,000 into battle. Oh, and let's not forget Jael! An unlikely hero whose courage in a quick moment is admirable, but also completely insane.
Lindsey, Chiderah, and Ogechi reflect on the familiar story of Ruth. While we all may think we know the story of a loyal woman who met a perfect man named Boaz, through this conversation about the character of Ruth we see that she was so much more inspiring–and so is her love story!
