My guest today is Matt Poulous, a gentleman who has lived and fished on the Georges River for his whole life. Matt is super passionate about catching jewfish on lures and not only goes out doing it himself multiple times each week, but also runs kayak fishing tours for others who want to learn how to target jewfish on lures. During this chat he simplifies the whole process and explains what to do, when to do it and how to succeed using a relatively basic set of tackle. ___________________ Did you know that we have a membership program? Small jewfish can be targeted all year round from the rocks and headlands of the northern NSW coast, but in Autumn the mullet runs bring the bigger (10-25kg) size class of jewfish close to shore to feed on the prolific food supply. The weeks and months following Anzac Day are the prime time to dust off the jewfish tackle and hits the rocks and headlands in search of jewies. Tristan Sloan grew up in the Ballina area and learned to catch jewfish from the rocks and rock walls at a young age. He's recently returned after a number of years in Northern Ausralia and found that his knowledge and past experience have allowed him to step straight back into consistently catching headland jewfish on lures. ______________ The Australian Lure Fishing Podcast supports Aussie anglers with quality information to improve their fishing results. Josh Annand shares his tips on how to chase jewfish on the north coast of NSW and surrounds using lures.
The NSW Northern coastline is a superb destination for a great many prized fishing species, but few are so revered as the jewfish. Definitely one the country's more challenging fish species on lures, it's understandable that many keen jewfish anglers guard their knowledge closley. Today's guest Josh Annand isn't one of those though. He came onboard the ALF podcast to share what he's learned about targeting jewfish on lures from the stones - and he didn't hold back. ______________ Need help to catch more fish on lures? On Episode 90 we chat to Steve Morgan who is the director of the ABT tournaments and Fishing Monthly magazine. In addition to the Steve's high level of success within the Tournament scene, Steve is an avid fly fisho who has held multiple records for long Tail Tuna form as far back as the 90's. Steve has also caught a stack of Threadfin, Jewfish and Bass on fly in SEQ which is where Steve is from. On this show we talk about the on flow of tournaments, what they mean to the industry as a whole and how they raise the standard of fishing for everyone. Also on this show we kick the show off by talking about Coldwater v Tropical fly lines and also some great chat about managing tangles also. This show is brought to you by Manic Tackle Project and Beast Brushes
Episode 69 - Shooting Heads, Haunted Fishing Spots and Sticky Stuff is the title of this weeks plan gone okay. Its just Voltz and Chris again this week, but dare I say it, we may have redeemed ourselves somewhat for the flyline special when we discuss a fraction of what there is to know about fly lines when we talk about Shooting Heads. The question was posed when Chris was talking with the guy pictured who is Tom and yes he is holding a big Jewfish caught on a Game Changer. The conversation seems to naturally turn into adhesives, then we answer a listener question about fly materials storage. This weeks Wide World of Sports is a cracker, some great fish have been caught this week and we reveal how the rod on the shoulder scoring system is derived, so you can play to your strengths for future photos.
Episode 57 - What a cracker!! We chat to Lucas Allen from King Tide Salt Fly who is based out of Tauranga, New Zealand. Look.... here is the deal. This show has some bad jokes, some cultural insensitivity, some talk of medical procedures and popular movie franchises... but, we do talk about the very strong and powerful Kingfish and the incredible shallow water fishery Lucas guides at. This fishery is definitely not new, but as a destination for hardcore flats fishermen... it's got to be one of the most underrated misunderstood fisheries going. We sincerely hope that this show opens your mind to the possibility of considering Kingfish as a bucket list skinny water fly target. Also on this show, we recap Voltzy's journey so far into the krispy Kreme world of sightfishing to Jewfish and the people he brings down around him with his magic jinx. In addition we have a very detailed and verbose "Voltzy's World of Sport" Checkout Lucas' website King Tide Salt Fly
