Larry Ostola speaks with Marc Milner about his book Second Front: Anglo-American Rivalry and the Hidden Story of the Normandy Campaign. In June 1944, an Allied army of British, American, and Canadian troops sought to open up a Second Front in Normandy. But they were not only fighting to bring the Second World War to an end. After decades of Anglo-American struggle for dominance, they were also contending with one another—to determine who would ascend to global hegemony once Hitler's armies fell. Marc Milner traces this bitter rivalry as it emerged after the First World War and evolved during the fragile peace which led to the Second. American media and domestic politics dominated the Allied powers' military strategy, overshadowing the contributions of Britain and the remarkably critical role played by Canada in establishing this Second Front. Culminating in the decisive Normandy campaign, Milner shows how the struggle for supremacy between Churchill and Roosevelt changed the course of the Second World War—and how their rivalry shaped our understanding of the Normandy campaign, and the war itself. Marc Milner is emeritus professor of history at the University of New Brunswick and former director of the Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society. He is the author of ten acclaimed books, including Stopping the Panzers and Battle of the Atlantic. If you like our work, please consider supporting it: bit.ly/support_WTY. Christian Zyp interviews Sofia Bohdanowicz (director/co-writer) about her feature film MEASURES FOR A FUNERAL. See it exclusively at Metro Cinema Sunday November 30th @ 3:45 pm OR Thursday December 4th @ 9:15 pm.MEASURES FOR A FUNERAL brilliantly spotlights a young academic's run towards one woman — acclaimed early 20th-century Canadian violinist Kathleen Parlow — as she simultaneously flees from another, her failed musician mother. Sofia Bohdanowicz's latest pieces together the extraordinary story of real-life early 20th-century Canadian violinist Kathleen Parlow — who by rights should be a household name — blending fact with a fictionalized family history. The director's frequent collaborator, actress Deragh Campbell, plays Audrey Benac, a woman on a single-minded mission to learn more about Parlow, who has slipped away from collective memory. Melding her own personal history into the film, Parlow was Bohdanowicz's grandfather's violin mentor and teacher. Culminating in a beautiful final concerto that is layered in meaning and importance, this film brings to light a forgotten icon, while simultaneously reflecting on loss, regrets, and closure.TIX: metrocinema.org/production/measures-for-a-funeral/WEBSITE: www.sofiabohdanowicz.com/films-1/meas…or-a-funeralINSTAGRAM: @greenground_productions@sofiagolightly
This episode explores whether the energy sector – and particularly the North East of Scotland – is at a genuine turning point. The conversation looks at how a “just transition” could play out for workers and supply chains as the North Sea continues to decline, and how policy choices over the next five to seven years could mean either many more jobs in offshore energy or a sharp loss of capacity and capability. The guests unpack the idea of an “energy workforce”, not tied to a single fuel, and discuss how companies are increasingly global, chasing projects and moving people across borders while trying to stay agile in a volatile market.Alongside that, they dig into the UK's shifting tax regime in the North Sea, the impact of the windfall levy, the challenges of the current investment climate, and the added frictions from employment law changes and immigration policy. New modelling shows that the pace of decline in oil and gas could have material economic impacts, especially for Scotland and the North East, where offshore activity underpins a large share of jobs and GVA. Despite the risks and recent redundancies, the tone ends up cautiously optimistic: with clearer policy, better signalling from government and the right incentives, the UK still has the chance to turn its existing strengths – workforce, supply chain and North Sea assets – into a world-class, net zero-focused energy powerhouse. This episode is the fifth in a series partnering Deloitte with the Fraser of Allander Institute. In this series expect lively debate, expert insights, and thought-provoking discussions that will reshape the conversation around Scottish economic growth. Culminating in a landmark event in March 2026, this collaboration will unveil ground-breaking insights and provide a platform for action. This Scottish-focused initiative builds upon Deloitte's UK-wide Growth 35 programme, painting a bold vision for a thriving UK economy by 2035.Timestamps(00:00) - (04:30) - Welcome, context & guest introductions(04:30) - (12:30) - Is the energy sector at a turning point? – “Striking the Balance”(12:30) - (21:00) - From oil & gas to an “energy workforce” and a global supply chain(21:00) - (31:30) - Investment climate and the North Sea fiscal regime(31:30) - (38:00) - Employment rights, immigration policy and agility(38:00) - (42:00) - Economic modelling: managed vs accelerated decline(42:00) - (45:41) - Lessons from 2015, current mood & reasons for optimismThe full transcript is available here.

2025-11-09 | Silicon Wafers 051 | DAILY UPDATES | Despite the profusion of stories we've covered, the battle for Pokrovsk, energy sanctions, and so on, the most important strategic angle on the war this winter is the attritional energy war. And it's unlike the Western attitude to the war throughout all these four years – to cede the escalation dominance to Russia, always pulling punches, in support for Ukraine, and never allowing its ally to land a decisive blow on Russia. Now Ukraine is takin off the gloves, because below the nuclear threshold, there is nothing holding back Russia's viciousness and violence. Ukraine is seeking to inflict greater costs on Russia in the energy war, than it can impose upon Ukraine. This ‘escalation' is the only way to make it clear to Putin he cannot win and is the only way to inflict economic and social costs that start to make Putin's brittle regime appear vulnerable to its internal audience. Nothing else will get through to Putin. Nothing at all. Ukraine's “doomsday lever”? Hitting the Yamal network — myth vs. math. There is an inescapable logic to the course of this existential escalation for Ukraine's existence. It starts with testing the theory of imposing blackouts and heating denial to smaller, non-strategic Russian towns. Belgorod, Vladimir, Voronezh. And this is happening now. The next stage is to test supporting infrastructure around Moscow – electricity substations, energy supply routes for fuel, gas and oil products. This is happening. Beyond that, are substantial and extended blackouts in smaller towns, then Moscow and St. Petersburg. But that's not the final arrow in Ukraine's quiver. It has a doomsday option – hitting Yamal Cross. If none of the other escalatory steps lead to an unconditional ceasefire, then I suggest it's a near certainly that we'll reach the doomsday stage for Moscow by end of this winter. ----------Partner on this video: KYIV OF MINE Watch the trailer now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arJUcE1rxY0'Kyiv of Mine' is a documentary series about Ukraine's beautiful capital, Kyiv. Synopsis Of Tonight's Group on The Evergetinos Volume II Hypothesis XXXV Section A paragraphs 1-5: “One should never become angry or shout at anyone. An irascible man, even if he should raise the dead is not acceptable before God!” Such thoughts from the fathers already set the tone of this hypothesis and begin to challenge our sensibilities; the way that we deal with annoyances, direct attacks against ourselves or the faith or in a broader way the way the way we deal with violence in the world. What is the role, the place, of the Christian in an age of such vindictiveness and hostility to the other? How can we not only avoid being drawn into the passion of anger and move to the defensive position but also love as Christ loves? How does Christ's meekness and gentleness shape the way that we engage others? So often our ego leads us to hold onto things with a tight grip. This includes our opinions and judgments as well as material goods. Have our hearts been formed with such humility that we can drop our position when a discussion tends towards anger or can we leave behind the work of our own hands the circumstances are such that if we do not abandon it we will be drawn into conflict? In other words, do we place the things of this world or our own dignity and sense of self-respect above the love and the gentleness of Christ? It is only in the silence of prayer, prolonged and unmeasured, that the grace of God frees us from our own ego. Only by experiencing the profound love, compassion, mercy, and understanding that we have received from God will a spirit of gratitude well up within us. It is then that we are compelled to love. What could we possibly lose that we would not gain back a hundredfold in Christ? If we have been made sons and daughters of God and if we live in the Spirit that has been given to us and we should fear nothing. And where there is no fear - there is only love! --- Text of chat during the group: 00:09:17 Fr. With the rapid spread of AI, will there even be a future for copywriters? Both new and experienced copywriters are plagued by that same question. And it's a good question. Because there are plenty of solid arguments that go like this: With the rapid growth of AI, soon there won't be any need for human copywriters. And in some cases, that's 100% true. The good news is, there are also some powerful counter-arguments that say there will definitely be a need for copywriters, and still some great opportunities to make a lot of money. But there's a catch: If you want to survive, you're going to have to learn some important new skills that only the top-of-the-crop copywriters needed in the past. Culminating in one top skill that no AI will ever be able to attain. I've figured out what they are - the lead-up skills, and the one top skill - and I'm going to share them with you, in detail, today. Now I'll spend a lot of time mentioning my mentoring, and I just want to say it's not for everybody. You need to be more advanced than a beginner in your freelance copywriting career, or in your business. Most of my new clients are already at the six-figure level. I've found those are the people I can help the most, and they're also the people who can get an immediate return on their investment. So if you're interested, I do have one or two spots coming open by the fall. Please visit my website to read about the mentoring and then apply if this is something you really want to do. Written by W. Cleon Skousen and narrated by Francis Urry, this professionally dramatized story of Easter was produced by KSL radio in Salt Lake City and was widely broadcast on radio stations during the 1960's and 1970's. Journey through the Easter events beginning with the burial of Jesus Christ and concluding with His ascension. In the stillness of pre-dawn Jerusalem, a group of devoted women, including Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Joanna, among others, embark on a poignant mission to anoint the body of Jesus with sweet spices. Their story unfolds with dramatic encounters at the tomb, where they are greeted by angelic figures announcing Jesus' resurrection. Powerful moments of disbelief, followed by a wonderous realization by Jesus' closest followers, including Mary and the apostles, the emotional transitions from fear and sorrow to amazement and renewal of faith as the resurrected Christ appears first to Mary and later to the broader group of disciples. The moving account of Jesus' 40-day ministry after His resurrection, filled with miraculous appearances and profound teachings. Culminating in Jesus' ascension, the saints launch and ignite a global Christian movement of faith, testimony and hope.
"Machu Picchu Paces is inspired by my own trek along the Inca Trail in 2024, a journey of beauty, grandeur, and mystical setting culminating in Machu Picchu that left a deep impression on me. The raw beauty of the young Andes Mountains, the shifting terrain and biomes, and the sacred sense of place – a perfect integration of architecture into the landscape – resonated deeply with me. "My composition was created exclusively using a field recording from a 5-day trek along the Inca trail – the same duration as mine. The piece responds to the walking rhythm captured in the recording, which seemed unusually fast compared to my experience. Slow and steady is the way of the Inca Trail, and I wanted to expand the scope of rhythms to embrace the full range of travelers. I used time scaling to adjust the step rate and create four variants at different tempos, ranging from 40 steps per minute (an elderly hiker) to 150 (a professional porter). These operations produced sound files of different durations, which were then each time-scaled again to a common cadence to simulate a group hiking together. Subtle fluctuations introduced in individual tracks within the common cadence group reflect the natural dynamic of hikers falling behind or surging ahead — group formation, dissolution, and the effort of the climb. "Through minimal additional sound processing techniques limited to simulated analog delay, filtering, and mixing, I aimed to retain the essence of the original recording while revealing something unexpected. What emerged surprised me – almost animal-like sounds within the fractured density of layered paces, reflecting how the “natural” landscape of the Inca Trail has merged with cultural forces to create something both timeless and new. "Machu Picchu Paces reflects on tourism and collective movement along this historic path. As our guide reminded us, the worldwide appeal of Inca heritage supports a vital economy for local communities. Culminating in a pre-dawn descent to the historic site, I arrived exhausted and overwhelmed by the scale of the built environment and the surrounding mountain peaks. While Machu Picchu is rightfully named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, the trail that leads to it is equally filled with wonder – present yet veiled, mystical and arduous. Machu Picchu Paces highlights the sonic heritage of a journey that connects travellers across centuries." In this final exploration of the significant phrase 'But God', we understand the saying 'But God gives the increase', and explore its implications in our spiritual journey. In the same way that gardening requires investment, effort, and patience, we unpack the importance of nurturing the seed of God's word in people's lives. Whether you are a nurturer or a harvester, we stress the significance of balance, unity, and mutual respect in playing our parts in God's divine plan. Highlighting the ultimate goal of salvation and genuine conversion to Christianity, we tackle the challenges that spiritual gardeners and harvesters may face, particularly when misunderstandings arise from differences in approach. We also challenge listeners to identify an individual in their life whose spiritual standing they're unsure of, and to start a nurturing, open-ended conversation with them. We hope that our joint efforts as spiritual gardeners and harvesters will result in a more bountiful spiritual harvest, for His glory.

What's up Bro's? it is finale time and we just wrapped up the RHOBH season. Was it great? no. Was it terrible? no. Similar to this finale episode. Not a lot happened but we get to tie up some storylines in a neat and tidy manner. Sutton has really come into her own this season and carried the season for a majority of it. Whether you like her or not, she came to work this season and we applaud her for that. She shares her story of finding her independence again with Porter, her daughter, in a very touching scene. PK and Dorit do not seem to be thriving as we get more and more hints of them not communicating well (plus PK apparently lives in London more than the States according to these last two episodes) Will we ever get to dive into this relationship more, bubblish? Erika Jayne had quite the comeback season and it was amazing watching a different side to her all year. Culminating in a great performance at SoFi for the White Party. The big news is Kyle and Mau's split. We've known for awhile but we finally get to see them discuss it. Why the kids had to be involved we do not know, but we get the scene nonetheless.
