Smoke or Fire originally formed in 1998, Originally calling themselves Jericho. Their fan base grew as they played DIY basement shows and small clubs throughout the Northeast. When living in Boston proved too expensive, the quartet moved to Richmond, Virginia to explore the punk rock scene and to work on their second album. They changed their name to Smoke or Fire when they signed to Fat in late 2004. Their debut album, Above the City, was co-produced by Fat Mike of NOFX and was released in March 2005. From there they released 2 more albums before calling a day. Thank you Casey from Iodine Recordings for the intro to Joe. This interview is awesome so I'm ecstatic for you fine folks to check it out. Side note, Joe lives in Germany so there's a part where we start talking about where he lives but I don't reference that it's there which would make that part of the conversation confusing. A podcast about connection, culture, community and, most of all, MUSIC! Today we will travel all the way to Edinburgh, Scotland to talk to my friend Billy Liar. Billy is not only a music fan, but a phenomenal musician himself. He is well traveled in that regard, playing shows all over the UK, Europe, The United States and elsewhere. Billy grew up and spent his formative years in Edinburgh, but has also lived in Glasgow, Germany and currently lives in Dundee, which is about an hour north of Edinburgh. I find it fitting that my first guest is from Edinburgh because Scotland is the only other country, besides the United States that I’ve ever lived in. My family and I transplanted there, when I was a kid, while my dad attended graduate school at Harriet Watt University. I don’t remember much of it, but, regardless Scotland has always held a very special place in my heart. The artists we share with you today are Mastersystem and Faith Elliot from Scotland and Joe McMahon from the United States.

Today I spoke with Joe McMahon... Joseph experienced a Kundalini Awakening in 2013, which continues to unfold and deepen to this day. Dark Night of the Soul, no ‘me', existential terror, Siddhis, and the recognition of thought-free being and ‘Peace' are among the phenomena that he has experienced since that initial awakening. The most dominant sense of all this is what some spiritual texts describe as “being in the world, but not of it”. He has a webpage which summarizes in a few paragraphs the wisdom that has been revealed to him when resting in the Peaceful Silence of thought-free being: www.PeaceIsAlreadyHere.com Connect with Joe on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/joseph.t.mcmahon --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/blackswansibyl/support
