We welcome back Vandal Drummond (@vandaldrummond) from the Luchaworld podcast for a variety of subjects. We talk the Reyes de Aire match between Barbaro Cavernario and Volador Jr and its polarizing finish, what they have left for the rematch and Cavernario's main event future. We also talk about the recent CMLL legends show and how not all 50-+ year old wrestlers are like Negro Casas and Negro Navarro. Next, Vandal explains how he acquired some of the infamous Monsul's Powder, made famous by an angle with John Tolos and Freddie Blassie in 1971. We discuss other blinding angles and, based on the Last Battle of Atlanta footage, the importance of context when watching a match from the past cold. Then we discuss the European vacation Vandal and his wife took this summer, including being in London right after Brexit and Paris right after the Nice attack following Euro 2016. He also mentions what city (home to a former podcast guest and friend of the show) they loved so much they inquired about retiring there. We end with talk of the next Luchaworld podcast with Alfredo Esparza (@therealfredo) and some of the other shows Vandal has done recently, including the 605 Superpodcast (@605pod).
Dylan Hales (co-host of the Wrestling Culture Podcast and former VOW TNA Impact reviewer) joins Joe and Rich to talk all things historical as we discuss the final category in the 2014 Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame ballot. Who's going in? Who's falling off? Why do current wrestlers love John Tolos and why are The Anderson's not in yet? TONIGHT on Pipebomb Radio at 10pm central/8pm west coast, our guest will be former WWE Superstar and Announcer, a well traveled veteran of professional wrestling... Bill Anderson! Born in Detroit, Michigan on November 12, 1956, Bill was trained for professional wrestling by Kurt Von Steiger in 1973, and had his first match June 16, 1974 in Tucson, Arizona. Since that time, Bill has wrestled on several tours of Japan for the FMW Promotion, wrestled in Canada, and virtually every state in the US. Along the way Bill felt an urge to give something back to this great sport. He opened up his Bill Anderson School of Wrestling in 1984! Along with veteran Red Bastein, trained Sting, The Ultimate Warrior, Angel of Death, and Strangler Steve DiSalvo in 1985! Big Bill also had his skills tested in the ring with some of the greatest wrestlers, men like Harley Race, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Randy Savage, Mil Mascaras, Paul Orndorf, Tatsumi Fujinami, Rocky Johnson, Jimmy Snuka, Black Gordman, The Great Goliath, Curt Hennig, Playboy Buddy Rose, John Tolos, Adrian Adonis, One Man Gang, Kamala, the original Sheik, Tiger Jeet Singh, Marty Jannetty and hundreds more! Don't miss a single moment of this great interview!
Welcome to the Wrestling Viewpoint Network; where we celebrate the Great American Art Form of Professional Wrestling, not bury it in dirt. WVN is not just one digital broadcast. This is a series of shows exploring, discussing, and celebrating wrestling from present day to well into the past. Our flagship show is California Classic Wrestling hosted by Dan Farren with Ken Napzok. Here you will get to explore the rich, yet often overlooked, history of professional wrestling in California. In this episode, Dan and Ken discuss what is considered the most important card in the history of Southern California wrestling: The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum show on August 27th, 1971 which featured Fred Blassie versus John Tolos in an explosive main event. Dan explains the build, the event, and the legacy of this supershow. Learn all about on the second edition of California Classic Wrestling presented by the Wrestling Viewpoint Network. This week Joey and chris start off by going to the movies and talking about where a face familiar to wrestling fans will be popping up this summer and how the action got a little too real behind the scenes! They also pay tribute to the late John Tolos, speculate on what's next for Mr. Kennedy, pat themselves for being right yet again, reveal the best thing that you're probably missing on wwe.com, and decide that Tiffany is probably the sexiest vegetarian. They also talk about TNA possibly trying to get better with some new and returning talent, chris actually feels a little bad for Kip James, Five Rumors in Five Minutes with a call for help from their female listeners, looking into the future of Dolph Ziggler, and listener email including a great missed opportunity and thoughts on the WWE versus Europe! Intro song: "Now is the Time" by Dope from the album "Group Therapy" Outro song: "Fire and a Microphone" by The Yelling from the album "The Yelling - EP" Both songs are available on iTunes Show them that podcasting sells records!
