On this episode of Talking Buffalo, its another edition of The Podbag and Patrick Moran is responding to several takes and questions from listeners, including some pretty significant criticism on some of prospect selections in both the seven round Buffalo Bills mock drafts over the past two weeks on the show. One of Patrick's favorite content creators in the business, Anthony Prohaska of Cover 1 joined Talking Buffalo yesterday to play Brandon Beane in a mock draft. The first round went reasonably find but things fell apart on night two due to a few surprise picks and the refusal of Miami to agree to a trade up, throwing a big monkey wretch in Anthony's plan. He ended up choosing Ohio State defensive end JT Tuimoloau and Texas safety Andrew Mukuba, and it wasn't warmly received by a lot of commenting fans. Patrick takes us inside the ropes of the mock and what led them to the picks while also defending them, saying that while the window dressing doesn't look that great doesn't mean they wouldn't be effective additions to the roster. There's also topics expressing the concern of Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop being the starting safety tandem, someone hoping for a Tre White reunion, a skepticism about drafting any wide receiver of real interest, why Terry Pegula is a good Bills owner, the never ending James Cook drama and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. We consider them THE most underrated spot for wings, pizza and other great food in Western New York plus it's a great place to drink and have a great time.♦♦♦♦♦Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's SubstackTwitter: @PatrickMoranTBBlue Sky: @PatrickMoranTB.bsky.socialInstagram: @PatrickMoranTBFacebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over his biggest Buffalo Bills wildcard round takeaways on the heels of Buffalo's convincing win over Denver and how at least some of them my relate to their next opponent, Baltimore in the divisional round. The Bills gave up a big play for a touchdown to Denver on the opening series and then shut the door on them for the rest of the game. Patrick has thoughts on Matt Milano having by far his best game of the season and Von Miller, even without registering the sack turning back the clock with some extremely impressive pass rush reps. Offensively the game plan was obvious from the get go and Patrick's got thoughts on the complete transformation James Cook has made since entering the NFL primarily as a pass catching threat out of the backfield. The Bills running game coupled with the explosive plays that came in the air in the second half is the recipe for making this a long playoff run. They were plenty of other things to like and some not so much, including Taylor Rapp struggling, another special teams blunder and a red zone offense that while not costly against Denver, didn't execute well. Of course, it's all about Baltimore going forward and Patrick's got preliminary thoughts on that matchup and much more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics, including spotlighting some of the role players that have been making this 2024 season special. Josh Allen has been playing out of his mind and is a clear-cut frontrunner for MVP. He's not only a star in Buffalo but one of the biggest in the league if not all of sports. There's other "star" players on this team too but it's been the heavy contribution of several role/complimentary players that've allowed them to win 10 of their first 12 games. Some of the players specifically discussed by Patrick and Matt include Mack Hollins, Taylor Rapp, Dawson Knox, Dorian Williams, Ray Davis, Austin Johnson and Alec Anderson. They also talk about the job head coach Sean McDermott and wonder if McDermott's evolved both professionally and personally in regards to his relationships with the team over the past year. That plus realizing the Bills have been better off because of last offseason's departures, a look around the AFC and much more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran discusses some of his biggest Week 13 takeaways for the Buffalo Bills on the hells of their lopsided 35-10 shellacking of San Francisco this past snowy Sunday night to improve to 10-2 on the season. The comfort of being home and knowing a raucous crowd will be behind you has always given the Bills a home field advantage late in the season and into the playoffs. However, Patrick discusses how the style of play and roster makeup for previous editions of the Bills in recent years didn't feel like they were suited to play their best in wintery Western New York. That's no longer the case as this year's team has underwent a huge identity shift on offense and the result is a (much) more physical brand of football that allows them to beat teams in several ways. While continuing to state he doesn't much care about the MVP race, Patrick admits it's at the point where he's at a loss for words if there's anyone out there who doesn't think Josh Allen is the league's most valuable player right now. This game is discussed as well as a shift in Josh's mental approach has him playing perhaps the best of his entire career. Other takeaways discussed is the emergence of Taylor Rapp as a weapon, an early game penalty on San Francisco that turned the tide of the game more than people think, a dominant performance from the offensive line, who was responsible for allowing two long Deebo Samuel kickoff return, one area of the team that's still concerning and more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to talk about the defense carrying the Buffalo Bills to a 30-20 road victory at the Indianapolis Colts to improve to 8-2 on the season and set up a showdown with Kansas City next Sunday in Orchard Park. It wasn't the prettiest game for the offense, not by a long shot but it didn't matter because Buffalo's defense was more than up to talk. Taron Johnson had a pick six on the Colts first offensive play of the game and the defense finished with four takeaways plus a key fourth down sack. The guys talk about the unit's mostly dominating performance, forcing three Flacco interceptions and a strip sack by Greg Rousseau that led to a Damar Hamlin fumble recovery. They also held Jonathan Taylor to just seven yards rushing on five carries on the second half after Taylor had 107 at halftime. It came on a day when the offense wasn't particular sharp, mostly understandable given they were down Keon Coleman and Amari Cooper coming into the game and lost Dalton Kincaid to a knee injury in the second quarter. Josh Allen threw two interceptions, both pretty ugly and also missed on a wide open Kincaid for a would-be touchdown. That said, he still threw for 280 yards and ran for 40 more while orchestrating a nail in the coffin 13-play, 84 yard drive following Taylor Rapp's interception to put the game away. Joe's got plenty of thoughts on Josh Allen's game, big picture things with the Bills and tons more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. It's another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the episode where the audience controls the narrative and topics. Patrick Moran is responding to several takes and questions, including being asked to power rank what the potential Bills contract extension candidates should be in addition to what should happens when/if Matt Milano's able to return to the active roster. There's several prominent Bills players that could in line for extensions as soon this offseason. Among those are Christian Benford, Terrel Bernard, Greg Rousseau and Khalil Shakir. Patrick's tasked with ranking them and perhaps a few others in order of priority were he Brandon Beane. It's a pretty tough exercise as all the players are important to the team, so it comes down a series of factors that are open to debate. Also, Matt Milano's missed the entire so far and isn't expected back until somewhere in December at the earliest. In his place Dorian Williams has gotten progressively better and become an asset to the defense. A listener wants to know what Patrick thinks Sean McDermott should do when/if Milano's healthy enough to play again and advises fans to not overthink this one. Also discussed are submissions involving Taylor Rapp making a fan not miss Jordan Poyer, an upgrade still wanted at safety, Josh Allen's favorite trait so far this year, the MVP race and what one fan calls "the complete disappearance of Dawson Knox." There's also some Sabres talk and other things discussed. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation and together they have their biggest takeaways on the heels of the Buffalo Bills 23-20 victory on Monday Night football over the New York Jets, an ugly win that looked very sexy in the standings on Tuesday morning. This subject matter was pushed back a day after the major Amari Cooper trade on Tuesday afternoon. Monday was a game marred by penalties, missed kicks and unforced errors by both teams but in the end, the Bills prevailed and as a result now have a commanding 2.5 game lead over the Jets just six weeks into the season, something very expected. Patrick spends time going over some of the biggest reasons the Bills moved firmly into the driver's seat in the AFC east, including Josh Allen reverting back to the type of play that had him looking like a strong MVP candidate through the first three weeks of season. Also, Ray Davis got the start for an injured James Cook and boy did he ever take the ball and run with it, literally. Also discussed is the huge (huge) returns of Taron Johnson and Taylor Rapp playing a big role in Buffalo's win, AJ Epenesa being a factor as well as Curtis Samuel having his first meaningful week as a Bill. This all helped overcome many of Buffalo's deficiencies, including the inexcusable decision by Sean McDermott just before halftime, a defense that got away with yet again giving up too many explosive plays, a kicker who has the yips at this point and other stupid mistakes the Bills made. They also talks about the Jets trading for Davante Adams and of course, Cooper joining the Bills after a Brandon Beane trade and an opportunity for the Bills to really run away with their division over the next month and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblings for your (really good) daily Bills content. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran offers instant live reactions in the moments following the Buffalo Bills squeezing out a 23-20 road victory over the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. Let's be honest--this was one of the ugliest games you'll see and if you didn't have a horse in the race you probably would've turned the game off long before the final whistle. But at the end of the day the only thing that mattered for Buffalo was getting a win. They did and now have a firm hold on the AFC east six weeks into the season. Before hitting on all the ugly stuff Patrick highlights three players that were critical to the Bills winning this game: Ray Davis, Josh Allen and Taylor Rapp. Raise your hand if you expected to read that before the game. Patrick spends (plenty of) time talking about all the ugly from this game, from the 22 combined accepted penalties to the Bills ridiculous defensive call at the end of the first half that allowed Aaron Rodgers to complete a hail mary. Patrick also brags on hitting all three of his bold predictions before the game, what this win means for Buffalo, has Tyler Bass attempted his last kick for the Bills and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. The Buffalo Bills knocked off the New York Jets 23-20 to improve to 4-2 on the season. The game had a little bit of everything from a fight, a Hail Mary touchdown, missed field goals and plenty of penalties. Spectrum News 1's Andy Young and Kevin Carroll break down the game on Monday Night Football. Talking points include Josh Allen, Sean McDermott, Ray Davis, Dion Dawkins, Dawson Knox, Mack Hollins, Curtis Samuel, Keon Coleman, A.J. Epenesa, Taron Johnson, Taylor Rapp, Aaron Rodgers, Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson and more.
The Buffalo Bills have lost two in a row amid questions about their head coach, offensive coordinator and the players surrounding star quarterback Josh Allen. Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports joins Spectrum News 1's Andy Young to discuss the problems the Bills are facing as they travel to the New York Jets for Monday Night Football. Talking points include Joe Brady, Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, Keon Coleman, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mack Hollins, Tyrell Shavers, James Cook, Ray Davis, Ty Johnson, Sean McDermott, Taron Johnson, Ed Oliver, Taylor Rapp and more.
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for plenty of (often heated) reaction on the heels of the Buffalo Bills losing to the Houston Texans on a last second 59-yard field goal, an ending marred by bad coaching. The Bills were on the road in a tough environment facing a very good Houston team. They fell behind early and appeared on the verge of being run out of the Stadium at halftime. Buffalo showed resiliency, especially on defense and battled back to tie the game in the final minutes. They fell apart in the end, largely because of some absurdly coaching decisions by Sean McDermott, first with time outs and then on play calls in the final minute. The guys have plenty to say about that and a coaching staff that looked the part the first three weeks but have definitely been exposed as flawed over the last two. They also have plenty to say about Josh Allen, who had one of if not his worst games as pro, certainly the worst he's looked throwing the football in at least a few years. He was bad and wasn't helped but by a wide receiver group that gave him no help and often looked pathetic in doing so. It certainly feels if the Bills are serious about trying to win the AFC this year and get to the Super Bowl, they need to trade for a quality wide receiver because that player is not currently on this roster. The guys discuss a defense that had some issues early but stepped up and gave the Bills a chance to win this game, a pretty valiant effort with Ed Oliver, Taron Johnson and Taylor Rapp. They go over some bright spots, look ahead to what now kinda feels like a must-win game in New Jersey next week, hit on the Sabres crappy start to their season and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran watched the game film and analyzed the PFF grades and has a series of his biggest Buffalo Bills takeaways following their Week four blowout loss at Baltimore on Sunday night. It's just one game and the Bills are 3-1 a month into the season. If Bills fans and probably the team was offered winning three of their first four before the season started most would've jumped on that. The sky isn't falling and it's worth recognizing that. With that said this was an ugly loss and it's perfectly reasonable to raise questions with multiple areas of this team on the heels of it. That starts with the safeties and Patrick talks about being convinced the Bills have a significant safety problem and wonders if the solution is currently on the roster. One thing he's convinced about it's that the solution wasn't on the field Sunday night. Taylor Rapp and particularly Damar Hamlin were hard to watch against the Ravens. Patrick also wonders why Curtis Samuel hasn't fit into the Bills offense at all a full month into the season and starts to recall that this type of player seems to come and go every year. The difference however is that past candidates weren't costing $8 million. Also, where's Dawson Knox? Most the takeaways from Baltimore, thankfully are considered just as bad night for the Bills and not recurring/chronic problems. Patrick talks about the coaching and both sides of the lines being awful against the Ravens but still having a fair amount of confidence in all those areas. I'm excited to share my discussion with Coach Terrence Brown Jr. Coach Terrence is the Defensive Backs Coach at the University of Cal. Here is information about his playing and coaching career. I'm in my third season as a defensive backs coach at Cal in 2024. I have spent 11 seasons in the Pac-12 as a player and coach, including the last two seasons at Cal (2002-23) and five campaigns over two stints on the coaching staff at Washington (2015-17, '20-21). I also played collegiately in the league for four seasons at Stanford (2009-12). I also coached at Vanderbilt (2018-19) in between my stints at Washington. In addition, I was among a group of 30 coaches on 247Sports' 30Under30 list in both 2019 and 2020. Coached Patrick McMorris who was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins after posting strong numbers (90 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 1.0 SK, 1 INT, 8 PBU, 2 FR, 2 FF) and Craig Woodson (81 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 1 INT, 4 PBU, 2 FF) who earned his second straight honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection. In 2022 I coached, Daniel Scott a fifth-round selection of the Indianapolis Colts in the 2023 NFL Draft after being a third-team All-Pac-12 pick of Phil Steele and Pro Football Focus as a 2022, as well as Jeremiah Earby a second-team College Football News Freshman All-American, and all three honorable mention All-Pac-12 selections of the league's coaches. At Washington, I coached a pair of 2021 first-team All-Pac-12 defensive backs in Kyler Gordon and Trent McDuffie, while Elijah Molden was a first-teamer in 2020 when McDuffie earned second-team honors. I coached four Huskies currently on NFL rosters in Gordon (Chicago), McDuffie (Kansas City), Molden (Tennessee), and Keith Taylor Jr. (Kansas City), with McDuffie a first-round pick and No. 22 overall selection of the Chiefs in the 2022 NFL Draft while Gordon was taken in the second round (No. 39 overall) by Chicago, Molden was a third-round pick (No. 100 overall) of the Titans in 2021 and Taylor Jr. a fifth-round selection of Carolina also in 2021. As a graduate assistant, I coached a pair of All-Americans in Budda Baker and Sidney Jones, while working with a long list of future NFL defensive backs in addition to Baker and Jones including Kevin King, Jordan Miller, Byron Murphy, Taylor Rapp, Keith Taylor Jr. and Zeke Turner, with Husky defensive backs earning five first-team All-Pac-12 honors during the period. At Vanderbilt, I coached second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection Joejuan Williams in 2018 when Williams led all SEC cornerbacks in interceptions (4), while also pacing all of the league's players in pass breakups (14) and passes defended (18) before he was selected by New England in the second round (No. 45 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for a full Buffalo Bills training camp preview as the team gets set to officially open training camp tomorrow. The "offseason" is finally over as Buffalo gets into things at camp and the guys go through the team positionally to take a thorough look at the roster, discussing both scenarios and raising several potential questions. Among those discussed is if we can expect to see a more vocal Josh Allen going forward, if Ray Davis has as legitimate chance to leapfrog Ty Johnson on the running back depth chart quickly, how the back end of the receiver depth chart may play out and if Dawson Knox can have a bounce back season. That's just the offense. Defensively the guys discuss if Von Miller will look like the Von of two seasons ago, Matt Milano's health being critical, Kaiir Elam having one last chance to avoid the "bust" label and a key battle shaping up between Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop. They also talk about last weekend's Mafia Con, Josh Allen's place and perception among today's NFL quarterbacks as well as all-time and much more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over a bunch of Buffalo Bills candidates that could potentially be the next Terrel Bernard, a guy not talked about much and/or isn't expected to do a lot that could blossom into an important part of the 2024 Bills team. Around this time last year Bernard was mostly a Bills afterthought after the team let Tremaine Edmunds walk earlier in free agency. While Bernard was set to take on Tyrel Dodson for a starting job, it was probably thought by most the team would ultimately look outside to find it's starting middle linebacker. Bernard would win the job and within just a few games it became apparent that he's not only a good player, but a difference maker in the Buffalo defense. Bernard went on to have an outstanding first year as a Buffalo starter and has himself positioned as a critical part of the team going forward. Who may be this year's version of Bernard based on the criteria of contributing way more than most expect? Patrick goes over several candidates that he's been thinking about as well as many fans, a list that includes Mike Edwards, MVS, Taylor Rapp, Kaiir Elam and fight-round rookie Javon Solomon. There's also some players that could easily be on the list that Patrick thinks already have enough pedigree that being a solid contributor or more is expected, with those names including AJ Epenesa, Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel. That and plenty more today. ♦♦♦♦♦ If you're looking into setting up a golf practice/enjoyment station in your home, basement, garage or backyard — SimTurf is your golf oasis, featuring premium synthetic turf. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, primarily some of the storylines they're most looking forward to seeing play out at Buffalo Bills training camp that begins in a few weeks. How the wide receiver position and depth chart plays out, Taylor Rapp trying to hold off rookie Cole Bishop for the starting strong safety job, if Kaiir Elam looks good enough to avoid sending Brandon Beane to the trade market, how healthy Matt Milano looks and possible hints at what'll be a more balanced offense from seasons past are among the topics hit on. Additionally, the kick returning job is discussed, which with the new kickoff rule changes is now a bigger factor than before. They guys also spend a little time talking about the Buffalo Sabres, a team that has been extremely busy adding additions via free agency and trade over the past 10 days. That said, it hasn't impressed the fans much if at all, and it is a product of not necessarily this offseason specifically but years (and years) of futility that results in fans having little to not trust in anything Kevyn Adams does. Was Adams wise to trade away Matt Savoe, and are other moves still coming? That plus Joe talks about his experience of being at the arena in New York City for AEW's Forbidden Door show recently and much more.
