On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo recap the latest news from the coaching search for Mike Tomlin's replacement. Are Brian Flores, Anthony Weaver and Mike McCarthy emerging as the favorites for owner Art Rooney II and GM Omar Khan? Or are they simply the candidates most available to interview currently? And where do other known interview candidates including Ejiro Evero, Jeff Hafley, Jesse Minter, Chris Shula, Nate Scheelhaase and others fit into the mix currently? Our duo tackles those questions plus timing. Do Khan and Rooney need to move quickly for coaches currently available? Or can they bide their time as names like Shula and Scheelhaase continue their NFL playoffs runs? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Have expectations from fans, owners, and GMs like Omar Khan gotten out of control? Will teams like the Steelers, Bills, Ravens, Browns, Raiders, Giants and Dolphins regret their coaching changes? And how intense will competition for coaching candidates like Ejiro Evero, Jeff Hafley, Jesse Minter, Chris Shula, Nate Scheelhaase, Brian Flores, Mike McCarthy and Anthony Weaver become for the Steelers as a result of all the changes? Paul tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
January 16, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 80 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday afternoon episode, Alex Kozora and I get right back into discussing everything related to the Pittsburgh Steelers continuing to search for their next head coach. The Steelers have signed several players to Reserve/Future contracts since our last show, so Alex and I make sure to catch listeners up on all of the recent transactions made by the team. The Steelers will reportedly allow all coaches currently under contract with the team to interview for other jobs, so Alex and I discuss that news. We also go over the brief list of current coaches under contract that at least have a small chance of being retained once a new head coach is hired. Three more head coach candidates now have interviews set with the Steelers since our last show so that means Alex and I must discuss Klay Kubiak, Ejiro Evero, and Jeff Hafley being added to the list, which now sits at eight in total. Alex wrote a detailed post on Friday on why Hafley is his favorite choice to be the Steelers new head coach, so we go through a lot of his thoughts on that. We also go over reasons why Hafley might not be the perfect choice to succeed Mike Tomlin. Alex and I talk a little bit about my favorite candidate at this point to be the Steelers new head coach, Chris Shula. We also discuss a few other candidates that might get interviews in the coming days. A few of the candidates have interesting links to certain players, both currently on the Steelers and on other teams, so there are some conversations to be had concerning that topic. With a lot of readers and listeners having questions about Steelers OLB T.J. Watt and whether he might be tradeable this offseason, Alex and I dive into his current contract situation, the financials related to his salary and possible dead money, and the probability related to him being dealt before the 2026 NFL Draft gets underway in late April. Later in this episode the news breaks that special teams coordinator Danny Smith is interviewing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so we make sure to hit on that item. Alex and I then give our picks against the spread for the four NFL Divisional round playoff games that will take place this weekend based on the betting lines provided by show sponsor MyBookie.ag. This 122-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted above and we close things out by answering a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Poni is still coming down from the high he got once we heard the news of Mike Tomlin stepping down after Monday night's loss to the Texans. He said it's fun that we actually get to talk about this and it's not all just a hypothetical this time. Should we be as excited as we are though? The guys talked about people having second thoughts. What would we prefer – previewing a game or having the chance to talk about the next head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers? Are callers ready to tell us to be careful what we wish for? Fair Game w/ Farabaugh – Steelers insider Nick Farabaugh from Penn Live dot com joined the show. Nick thinks it's fair to say that either of the Rams coaches (Chris Shula & Nate Scheelhaase) could end up being the next head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He said they love the Sean McVay tree and people connected to his staff. Nick expects the Steelers to trend toward a younger coach, that hasn't been a head coach yet, and also don't have to have a defensive background. Nick believes the Steelers job is a better one than the Dolphins job, which could be another spot for Shula in this cycle. Nick isn't sure if Scheelhaase is hired this time around, but the Browns are a team to watch if he's not offered by the Steelers. Nick isn't over-the-moon about Ejiro Evero as a Mike Tomlin replacement, but Anthony Weaver is one that hasn't gotten enough love so far. Nick also feels like Robert Saleh should be considered for this job, even though the Steelers have yet to request an interview with him. Would Jesse Minter be a fit in Pittsburgh? Nick isn't fired up over Jeff Hafley, who is interviewing here today. Nick buys into what Art Rooney said the other day – that the Steelers will not go through a full rebuild.

On his weekly Chipped Ham & Football podcast, Brian Batko welcomes fellow Post-Gazette Steelers insider Christopher Carter to break down the latest news surrounding the team's search for Mike Tomlin's successor. Are pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase and defensive coordinator Chris Shula, both from the Rams, names to watch? What importance should we give their connections to the Sean McVay coaching tree? Do those two fit the mold of what Art Rooney II and Omar Khan are looking for organizationally? Brian and Christopher also take a look at some of the other names with whom the Steelers have requested interviews, including Brian Flores, Jesse Minter, Anthony Weaver, Ejiro Evero and Jeff Hafley.
