We're back in the Wonderful World of Disney this week, to check out Life-Size, the 2000 comedy starring Lindsay Lohan as a grieving little girl who uses a necromancy grimoire to try and resurrect her dead mother, and Tyra Banks as a doll who comes to life and tries to have sex with that little girl's father. Lohan plays Casey, a young girl who uses a mystical book to try and bring her mom back to life, but when some doll hair accidentally gets into her dark ritual she ends up with a life-sized doll named Eve (Banks), who is eager to experience everything the world has to offer, especially Casey's Dad (Jere Burns), and every other man at his law office. Will Casey be able to find the book containing the reversal spell and send Eve back to her home town of Sunnyvale? Will dad realise that his daughter is more important than making partner at his law firm? And why is this film a dark erotic thriller instead of a fun kids' film? Listen and find out! Mark Rosman never imagined that his storytelling journey would include a chapter about his family's battle with addiction. Known for directing charming family favorites like "A Cinderella Story" and "Life Size," Mark opens up about the unexpected struggle with his daughter's substance use disorder. This episode offers a heartfelt exploration of the fears and revelations that came with facing addiction head-on. Mark candidly shares the initial denial and the painful yet healing journey through therapeutic schools and rehab facilities, bringing to light the critical and often overlooked role families play in recovery. Our conversation unravels the profound shift that occurred when the focus broadened beyond just the individual battling addiction. Mark recounts a pivotal moment with a therapist who challenged the entire family to engage in self-reflection and embrace change. This perspective shift was instrumental in their transformation, prompting a journey of self-discovery and boundary-setting that taught them the importance of prioritizing their own emotional health. The narrative underscores the tumultuous yet rewarding path of learning to maintain one's well-being while supporting a loved one through addiction. Mark's experience doesn't just end with personal growth; it fuels his creative endeavors. He's channeling these experiences into a film project that brings his family's story to the screen, with hopes of illuminating the complexities of addiction and recovery for others. As Mark shares, the film is not just about addiction; it's about resilience, hope, and the power of storytelling to foster understanding and healing. This episode is not just a glimpse into a family's journey through addiction; it's a message of hope and heart, aiming to inspire and support families navigating similar challenges. In this episode, you will hear: The critical role of family involvement in addiction recovery. The shift from denial to acceptance and self-discovery within the family. The emotional journey of parents through support groups like Al-Anon/ Mark's film project inspired by his family's experience, focusing on the family's perspective. The importance of storytelling in fostering understanding and healing. Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet. In July, British supercar manufacturer McLaren Automotive unveiled the fruits of an audacious collaboration with the LEGO Group. The LEGO Technic McLaren P1 was a 1:8 scale, 3,893-piece LEGO set that paid homage to "the best driver's car in the world on both road and track." But like many a toy, the small replica left many fans curious as to whether this box of bricks, once fully assembled, could manage a lap on the track, much less match the performance of its elite engineering inspiration. “Wake up and pee! The world's on fire!” Happy Holidays, GMTD babies! This week is a TRUE Christmas gift, “Life-Size 2: A Christmas Eve” with Ryan Parseghian! As Ryan says, this is a film that can only be described as “a gay corporate film” and clearly a “catalyst for Ron DeSantis' anti-woke movement.” This film truly is a masterpiece of “gay realism,” scenes exclusively starting with drinking or waking up, woke propaganda, Tyra rapping, Lil' Yachty, a reluctant CEO, a wrongfully imprisoned doll creator, sassy friends, a young 12-year-old neighbor/friend who ends up saving a woman's job, Christmas (???), and OF COURSE a doll that comes to life to help save all her doll friends. “Merry Christmas! Happy Kwanza! Happy Hanukkah! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!” Enjoyyy!!!

Unless you've been under a rock somewhere, you probably are aware of the Barbie marketing machine ahead of the major motion picture release. What does this signify as a moment in our culture and the ways culture and commerce intersect? Barbie brought some major shifts when she first showed up in our world. What will this highly-marketed film bring with it?Alicia Esposito joins Phillip for an in-depth look at Barbie: the doll, the brand, the film. All brands can learn something from this moment in time, but if we aren't careful, we'll learn the wrong lessons and chase some rabbit holes that just don't make sense. There's a lot to talk about, so get your popcorn and have a listen!Nostalgia is Power {00:04:12} - “There's cultural acceptance of certain types of media and popular media that shapes the way that we perceive the world.” - Phillip{00:05:11} - “A brand is not a logo or fonts or colors. A brand is a marker of trust of a corporation that was able to endure despite all odds, and that means that you have to remain culturally relevant. Brands pass away when the culture doesn't accept them.” - Phillip{00:06:25} - “If people see the outline of the little flippy ponytail, they're like, "Oh, yeah, Barbie." That's association, but relevance and true brand loyalty tie to a brand's ability to keep the core of what people initially love about a brand or a person, but also be able to adapt to some of the new realities of the consumer, and also accept some of the pitfalls or problematic nature of the past of the brand.” - Alicia{00:16:25} - “{Airbnb} is a really great example of a brand that doesn't necessarily have ties to the commercial product world, but really turns it into a commercial product moment through great collaborations.” - Alicia{00:27:17} - “Having this brand recall and this nostalgia does create a new vehicle for filmmakers like Greta Gerwig to kind of tap into the mainstream market and tell a really powerful story. But then it kind of goes down this rabbit hole of but if all of the funds are going towards these things and these big corporations that have all the IP already and selling all of the products, what does that leave for new stories?” - Alicia{00:29:44} - “Barbie represented a shift of the idea of children's playthings in culture, but it also represented a new monolith, a new way to see and perceive the world through this artifice of fashion, desirability, and idealistic standards.” - Phillip{00:40:12} - “We have to {see explicit brand tie-ins in the film} only because a lot of the Barbie dolls of the past did have product tie-ins. There were always some subtle or direct brand partnerships there. I'm curious to see.” - AliciaAssociated Links:Learn more about Alicia Esposito and Retail TouchPointsGrab your copy of The Multiplayer Brand hereHave you checked out our YouTube channel yet?Subscribe to Insiders and The Senses to read more about what we are witnessing in the commerce worldListen to our other episodes of Future CommerceHave any questions or comments about the show?
