The Ankler gets real about what's happening in nonscripted TV, a diverse and thriving industry that includes documentaries, talent/competition/game shows and of course, reality TV. Boardwalk Pictures founder Andrew Fried, Pantheon CEO and Velvet Hammer co-founder Jen O'Connell, Propagate founder Howard Owens and Wheelhouse president of entertainment Courtney White join Series Business writer Elaine Low to dissect the challenges and bright spots of the market on stage at NAB Show in Vegas. These top players — responsible for shepherding projects as varied as FX's "Welcome to Wrexham," Netflix's "Untold," A&E's upcoming "Duck Dynasty" reboot and the digital-first "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show" — reveal their strategies for finding new audiences as cable's reach dwindles, their secrets to great storytelling, and their tactics (including AI) to compete in a disrupted landscape. This episode is an absolute MUST for anyone considering working in the fashion industry as a hair or beauty pro. London-based Aminata Kamara is a hairdresser who's spent most of her life working in hair and has become known for her beautiful braided styles at shows such as Kenzo and Louis Vuitton. In July 2023 Aminata's stunning designs for the Dior haute couture show went viral and she learned just how useful social media could be in making connections. This conversation is an inside guide to working in the fashion industry and Aminata shares on every aspect; from assisting rather than leading, the importance of being organised and saying yes to every opportunity you can. Along the way we also discuss the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and Aminata shares how doing someone's hair, is never simply about creating a style; it's often a precious moment of care in an industry that can be pretty ruthless. After a slew of problems—some of them really dark—Victoria's Secret cancelled its fashion show in 2018. Now, the company has brought back the event, which included legendary models and performances from the iconic Cher. It reverberated across social media, but has the company really put its problems in the past or are they are still there, simmering just below the surface? Most Innovative Company's cohost Yasmin Gagne went to the show and gives her assessment. Also, Yaz talks with celebrity stylist Law Roach about his career evolution and abrupt retirement . . . and the work he has done since retiring. and check out the YouTube Video of Yaz's chat with Law Roach!

It's been a very big week on the internet - so we're bringing you a topical episode to reflect on three topics that have felt particularly important for us. Firstly - take a look at the internet's reaction to the tragic news of Liam Payne's death. The noise on the internet around this topic has felt extraordinarily loud this week - so we discuss the cycle of trolling and tragedy that we have seen play out so many times and how we're feeling about it. Then, it's time to go back in time because the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is back. Have we just taken a massive step back in terms of our collective relationship with body image, or is this a reinvention that was desperately needed? And talking about society's obsession with thinness - we also chat about the government's conversation about Ozempic as a tool to get people back into the workforce. In the new year, we will be releasing a series on the podcast dissecting our relationship with body image.
