Welcome to another enlightening episode of the My Dream Log Cabin Podcast. In this episode, host Lindsay Sutherland, sponsored by Caribou Creek Handcrafted Log Homes, delves into the exciting world of energy-efficient log homes. She explores closely how log and timber homes can be 15-20% more energy-efficient than conventional homes! Right off the bat, she dives into the heart of what makes a log home efficient - the logs themselves. Harnessing the power of their natural energy storing and radiating capabilities, they create a strong insulating material that makes your new home more energy-efficient. She further discusses how choosing the right logs, and considering the size and fiber of the log, can significantly improve this efficiency. The episode unpacks the weighty matters of energy consumption in an average home and how specific appliances impact energy costs. Lindsay suggests that making smart choices in regard to these appliances can greatly reduce overall energy spending. There are innovative solutions to think about - like using ENERGY STAR rated appliances, opting for a tankless water heater, and more. The discussion also touches on certain less-obvious factors. These include site orientation of your log home on the building site, window positioning, roof insulation, and even your choices in heating and cooling systems. Did you know that a properly situated home can save up to 30% on an energy bill? Specific strategies, such as having a radiant heat system in the basement level with a high velocity forced air system for the upper floors, can dramatically cut energy expenses. Last but not least, the episode explores the role of roofing and windows, two of the main contributors to energy efficiency. Lindsay suggests approaching your contractor to explore the many new insulation products. She also shares useful tips on selecting windows, including considering windows with a low E coating and researching the U-value ratings, to lower energy expenditures. Welcome to the My Dream Log Cabin Podcast, sponsored by Caribou Creek Handcrafted Log Homes. I am your host, Lindsay Sutherland. In today's episode, we will dwell into one of the most integral aspects of log cabin design – the roof structure. I'll talk about what you should consider when designing your log cabin's roof to enhance its curb appeal. Often overlooked, there's more to roof design than meets the eye. Whether it's the roof's shape, angle, or even the materials used, these simple choices can significantly impact your log home's overall look and feel. A well-designed roof can lend charm and character to your cabin, whereas a poorly thought-out roof can make it look like, among other things, a “geometric joyride”. Apart from design aspects, I'll also talk about the importance of functionality when designing roofs. A roof is more than just a pretty hat for your cabin - it must work symbiotically with the rest of your home's structure. This is especially important for log cabins, which see a unique settling process that can massively impact your roof's overall structure and functionality. Shared with interesting insights and examples, this episode will help you understand how you can make the roof design work for your log home. From a professional designer perspective, I'll walk you through all the intricate details of creating a roof that not only looks good but also ensures the longevity and soundness of your log cabin. If you already have your dream floor plan and you're ready to start designing your log cabin, remember to check out our website at cariboucreek.com for exclusive offers and consultation opportunities! *Today's episode of the Get Over Yourself Podcast is a re-run episode* Have you ever stopped to question whether your dreams and ambitions are truly your own, or have they been shaped by societal expectations, family pressures, or other external factors? While it's natural to be influenced by those around us, it's important to take a step back and reflect on what truly drives us. In today's episode, Lindsay Sutherland and Brandon Davis will explore the idea of whether our dreams and ambitions are really our own, and how to identify and pursue the goals that align with our authentic selves. Lindsay spent nearly 20 years in a job she no longer loved, all in the effort to provide for her family and continue living her so-called "dream." Despite the constant battle she had inside of her head, she continued to work there, because after all, she once considered it her dream job. Brandon Davis, host of the Get Over Yourself podcast, interviewed Lindsay about her mental state during this time as well as how she eventually began to realize that working in her career no longer was her dream. Join us on this insightful podcast episode as we tackle three critical design mistakes that could lead to costly repair or maintenance issues for your cherished log cabin. Our expert guests, Dave Sante from Top Notch Log Works in Colorado and Jay Schuler from Nortek Copper Works, share their wisdom alongside host Lindsay Sutherland. Mistake #1: Overhanging Logs Invite Trouble! One common blunder is allowing logs to extend past the facia line, exposing them to damaging moisture. This moisture can seep into the load-bearing parts of the logs, potentially compromising your roof's stability. Discover the solution - shield your logs with top-quality copper caps from Nortek Copper Works. Mistake #2: Low-Placed Logs – A Recipe for Disaster! Logs homes that begin too close to the ground can spell disaster. Rainwater can cascade down the logs or splash back from the ground, creating future problem areas. Avoid these issues by raising the starting point of your logs or adding an extended porch overhang to safeguard against future headaches. Mistake #3: Exposed Log Joists on Decks – Exposed log joists, especially in decks, often lead to costly tear-downs and reconstructions. But fear not! There's a simple fix: wrap those joists with copper. Not only does copper naturally ward off rot-causing fungus, but it also fends off pesky insect infestations. Plus, it adds a touch of rustic charm to your cabin's aesthetic. Visit Our Sponsor: Explore the incredible offerings from Nortek Copper Works at http://nortekcopperworks.com/. In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Lindsay Sutherland Boal. By all accounts I had it all... a beautiful family, a nice place to live, living in a great part of the world. However, life was just not pleasant as I had posted on social media. I was a heavy drinker and it was ruining my life. Just shy of the pandemic, I had a very normal drinking night with a mom friend. I had secretly been 'sober curious' for about 6 months - meaning I knew I had a drinking problem, was not ready to do anything about it but was ready to listen to how others did something about it. For me, January 23, 2020 was not a rock bottom. I didn't get a DUI, I didn't hurt anyone. I didn't lose my job - or any of the other things i told myself would have to happen when i had an alcohol problem that needed addressing. I didn't hit rock bottom. I hit ROCK ENOUGH. Enough of the nightly 3am shame game. Enough hating myself every day. Enough of numbing out from a life I had created. Enough passing the blame buck. Enough of saying "I thought I'd have more, be more, do more" by now. E.N.O.U.G.H. I knew what my problem was. I knew what I had to do. I knew I was the only one that could do it. So i broke up with the only thing that gave me a sense of self-worth. I came to realize the Alcohol was not mending myself worth, it was stealing it, sip after sip. Day after day. Year after Year. Since getting sober - which has been a roller coaster ride of discovery, I have uncovered and recovered parts of myself that I had totally forgotten about. Additionally, I got 30% pay increase, lost 30 pounds, went back to school, started a podcast, found my inner athlete (completed 4000KM this year alone), all my relationships have improved, my social circle has exploded with powerful purposeful women and I have founded a national movement to empower women to take back control of their lives from Alcohol - SHE WALKS CANADA. My life will never be the same. And that's ok. In fact, it's better than ok. It's epic. In this episode we discuss the sobriety journey, empowerment and clarity coaching, She Walks Canada, being sober curious and transformation. Today’s guest in the Mads Singers Management Podcast is none other than Lindsay (Hauptman) Sutherland! Like myself, Lindsay had an early headstart in her career (she had her start in the automotive industry) but also had to learn many things the hard way, but because of this, Lindsay was able to have and live the life she wanted however, to achieve this, Lindsay had to make some drastic changes like relocating from another state (some people have commended her, while others called her crazy because relocating meant moving at a slower pace in life) and giving up a lovely house.Lindsay also shared how her parents died at a much younger age and weren’t able to retire, and because of this, Lindsay didn’t see herself working all her life, thus prompting her to follow her desire in life. Starting young in management, Lindsay shares how she struggled at first because she didn’t have a mentor to guide her; however, Lindsay was eventually able to find her niche and live the life she always wanted. We also touched on minimalism and how freeing it is not to own so many material things; you can simply pack your stuff in your backpack and be on your way to the beach or another country. Lindsay and I shared some insights into how business owners can be friends, colleagues, and bosses with their staff while maintaining professionalism. Key Learning Points: Lindsay says it’s important to follow your burning desire - 3:34 Lindsay stresses the importance of being able to express yourself - 9:40 Lindsay shares an anecdote where she was helping a colleague who unexpectedly got pregnant; while Lindsay gave her grace, her colleague filed for unemployment and said terrible things about her. This experience led Lindsay to put up boundaries. - 7:52 As a manager, Lindsay saw herself more of a servant for the people rather than the “end-all, be-all” or the “big kahuna” - 10:32 Mads says that it’s essential for business owners and managers to figure out who you are as a person and find out what works for you when dealing with people.. - 13-51 Mads would instead take the risk of people, especially when making new connections, friends, or relationships, rather than avoiding getting hurt. - 19:53 Mads says that people should let go of the fear of things not working out.- 22:05 Lindsay likens the relationship between a manager and an employee to a one-sided relationship because managers need to be “on” all the time. You’re being watched all the time, and sometimes you don’t even feel human. After all, it would be best if you were positive most times because the people around you can feel a sudden shift in your energy. - 23:19 Mads adds that managers should always put their best foot forward and be their best selves because their energy can affect their staff; however, it’s okay to take some time off to refresh yourself. - 25:35 Lindsay says that it’s essential that we manage our expectations so that we wouldn’t end up disappointed or upset in the event things fail. - 30:11 Resources Mentioned: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy Connect with Lindsay Sutherland:WebsitePodcast

Passive Income Examiner: After losing both her parents too early, Lindsay Sutherland, host of The Passive Income Examiner podcast, realized that there is no guarantee of Someday. She is on a mission to help people live a meaningful life without compromise through building Passive Income businesses and strategies. Her show features her own adventures as well as expert guests that offer eye opening insights to wealth building. Start living the life you are longing for...start by listening to The Passive Income Examiner Show. Trading w/ the major trend is a “natural hedge,” or protection Starting w/ broader market trend, sub-market, and then specific market (SPY -> Tech sector -> semi-conductors -> AMD) Starting w/ 3-5 years out, weekly. Then 1 year daily chart. Then narrowing to intraday Even if you're an intraday trader, work from hourly down to your preferred time frame Real example: Even the recent “crash” was within the bull market uptrend of the last 5 years. Market retraced back to the low at the end of 2018 but failed to fall below and rebounded sharply back to highs (street saw “V” shaped recovery). Trend was preserved, despite the sharp drop. Those who maintained their positions and waited to add when the correction came off support were able to add to their long-term positions and reduce their dollar-cost average. NEVER PANIC, especially when the broader trend is sustained.
