Prophecy Radio episode #126 finds Karen and Kristen back for a third week in a row (even though it's a little behind schedule). We share what we've been watching lately before discussing the latest news from Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Finally, we discuss chapters 22 and 23 of Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:51) The 3rd Annual Children's & Family Emmy Nominees are out, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians scored a bunch of them! Isn't it exciting that Leah Jeffries has been nominated for an Emmy!? What exactly is a show open? They've got a great chance of getting an award for set dressing. It's great to see a nomination for stunt coordination! Out of all the nominees, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is definitely one of the biggest and most popular shows. Here's the Variety article Kristen was referencing. In case you missed it like we did, we discuss the November blog update on Rick's website. Wrath of the Triple Goddess by Rick Riordan, Pahua and the Dragon's Secret by Lori M. Lee, and The Dark Becomes Her by Judy I. Lin are all available now. A Touch of Blood, the Drop of Venom companion novel, by Sajni Patel is out on February 25 We're also getting a new Nico and Will novel! What could Book 2 possibly be about?? We have a few ideas. There will be another Senior Year Adventure Book, but it won't be out in 2025. We try to figure out a timeline for when his next books will be coming out. We're so excited he said Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 is “better, bigger, funnier, faster and wilder” than the first season. What other adaptations is Rick working on at the moment? Walker has gotten SO BIG in the last year or so. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:31:05) Let's kick off our Chalice of the Gods discussion with chapter 22 today. We love a woman who hyphenates her last name. Annabeth taking up a culinary class and building famous landmarks out of cake makes SO MUCH SENSE. Karen has a theory as to why Annabeth chose to make green and purple cupcakes. Percy is a little shocked, but he takes Sally's surprise news very well and is super happy for his mom. We discuss whether Sally is relieved that her second child is not a demi-god. It's so cute that Percy wants to stick around to see his sibling grow up. We make sure to do our favorite lines and favorite moments. Next up is Chalice of the Gods chapter 23! Ho-Ho-Kus is a real place in New Jersey with a trade school. Is Rick making a statement on high school guidance counselors and how useless they are!? Turns out everyone wants updates from Percy today. We love all the timely references in this book and a lot of Rick's other works. Percy visits the library even though he really doesn't want to. Favorite lines and moments, as always! The reason Percy wants to help Ganymede is really sweet, actually. Feedback (00:58:40) Wings of Legends left us some comments on Spotify. Kyle left us an email back in March that we're just getting to, but it was WELL worth the wait because he had an awesome idea for a discussion. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 127, where we'll discuss the latest Percy Jackson news, along with Chalice of the Gods chapters 24 & 25. Prophecy Radio episode #112 is what you've all been waiting for, folks. We're here to discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 1, “I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher.” This is our in-depth, spoiler-filled analysis of the first episode—with the second episode's discussion coming soon. We also go through some of the articles that came out of Percy Jackson press week, and read out a few pieces of listener feedback. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:04:22) We are once again reminding you to check out Prophecy Radio Reading Room. If you want to read through the Percy Jackson and the Olympians press week coverage, as well as our spoiler-free thoughts, you can check out this article. Read Riordan gave us the Pahua and the Dragon's Secret cover reveal, plus the synopsis and release date for Lori M. Lee's book. Rainbow Crate posted a list of 20 queer mythology books that we think you might like—and it even includes The Sun and the Star! Bear McCreary seemingly confirms Film Music Reporter‘s tweet that the Percy Jackson and the Olympians soundtrack will be out on December 22. Apparently, Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 1 will be on Hulu. TotalFilm shared a new shot of the trio. Entertainment Weekly released an article about the show, which included both behind-the-scenes footage and some amazing new images. In a second article, EW also talked about planting seeds for future seasons and when we might see Athena. This B-roll footage has no audio, but it's cool to watch anyway. In a new scene, Grover arrives at Percy and Sally's place with half a goat in his pants. A second scene was released in which Percy meets Mr. D for the first time. We also got some short clips for Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, as well as a three days left promo. Leah Sava Jeffries IS Annabeth Chase. Aryan Simhadri IS Grover Underwood. Walker Scobell IS Percy Jackson. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 1, “I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher” (00:24:28) It's finally here! What are our first impressions of Percy Jackson and the Olympians? That opening shot was really fantastic, and we're obsessed with the camerawork. This is definitely the dream sequence, right? Azriel Dalman as Young Percy is so, so good. And look! There's Blackjack! The colchis bull turning into the garbage truck was amazing, and we love Percy's drawing. We go through all of Percy's drawings in his notebook and figure out which monsters he's seen and heard about. We NEED a set of Mythomagic cards. Sally explains that not all heroes are heroic, and not all monsters are monstrous. We already hate Nancy and Mrs. Dodds. They're the worst! People who don't know that's Riptide are about to be very surprised. Did you catch the moment when Grover and Percy trade for the inside of their sandwiches? Use the Force, Percy! Alecto's transformation was beautiful but also terrifying. Did you catch Rick's cameo in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 1? Percy is so mad that Grover betrayed him, and we honestly can't fault him for that. Eddie is totally the MVP of the episode (aside from Sally, of course). You can tell Gabe is a terrible person by his choice in footwear. We learn how to ACTUALLY pronounce Mr. Brunner's name. Let's discuss Sally and Gabe's relationship in the show because it feels different from the books. Who is speaking to Percy in his dream? The exposition in this show is done so, so well. Was Percy able to heal himself in the drainage ditch because it was filled with water? “You are singular” really stuck out to us. Percy is PISSED, and the minotaur is gonna pay for what it did to his mother. We finally, finally get a glimpse of Annabeth. Welcome to Camp-Half Blood! We loved the end credits sequence so much, we went through it frame by frame to pick out all the secrets. Feedback (01:45:35) Monster Donut Podcast tweeted out a picture of all of us interviewing Rick and Becky. Paloma was so proud of us. Thank you! Becky managed not to cringe at any of her quotes. Timi loved how the kids absolutely raided their wardrobes. Nicolaas loved Charlie's skills with a sword. Seaweed Brain Podcast clipped the video of our question to Rick and Becky. The DamMemePage thinks we're creative! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 113, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 2 in detail! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #64 takes a look ahead at all the projects we know are coming up in 2023, as well as our goals for the year as a podcast! This week, we're skipping the news since we're recording ahead of time, and we'll catch up on that in a couple weeks. But don't worry! We're still going to reread and discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 18. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. Looking ahead to 2023 (00:02:07) On January 10, The Sword of Hades will be re-released with a The Sun and the Star sneak peek. Are you going to pre-order it? One of the biggest books to come out this year will be The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro, which will release on May 2. Here's everything we know about The Sun and the Star so far. We speculate what we might get when we read Chalice of the Gods, which comes out on September 26. And let's not forget the Rick Riordan Presents imprint! What books can we look forward to in 2023? First up on the list is Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies by Stacey Lee, who will be releasing her first book under RRP. We loved Ballad & Dagger, so it should come as no surprise that Last Canto of the Dead by Daniel José Older is at the top of our lists for 2023. Next up, we have The Last Fallen Realm by Graci Kim, which will wrap up the Gifted Clans series. Roshani Chokshi is writing another book for RRP, this time about Filipino mythology! Obviously we can't wait for the second book in the Serwa Boateng series by Roseanne A. Brown. And maybe it won't be the last! We really need to read City of the Plague God by Sarwat Chadda…if only so we can read Fury of the Dragon Goddess. This fall, we can also expect Pahua and the Dragon's Secret by Lori M. Lee to hit store shelves. Moko Magic by Tracey Baptiste also promises to be great, and we wonder if there will be any similarities to Ballad & Dagger. And even though we haven't covered the books yet on the podcast, we're excited for the next book in the Shadow Bruja series by J.C. Cervantes. Many of the Rick Riordan Presents authors have OTHER books coming out outside of the imprint. Which ones are we most looking forward to? First up, Roshani Chokshi gives us a Valentine's Day treat with The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. And then there's Tehlor Kay Mejia's Lucha of the Night Forest, out on March 21. And then there's Into the Light by Mark Oshiro, which has mushrooms on the cover, so you know it's going to be cool. What announcements for Percy Jackson and the Olympians do we think we'll get in 2023? They have to tell us who Zeus and Poseidon are eventually, right?? Could we get a trailer by the end of the year? Will Percy Jackson attend SDCC? Will they be at D23 again? What if they did monster reveals!? Make sure you check out Aryan's show on Paramount+, Adventures in Wonder Park. When could we expect a season 2 greenlight? As far as the Red Pyramid film coming to Netflix, we can probably expect the script to be finished. But we know it's not coming out in 2023, so we need to be patient! What about a director? Or any casting announcements? What's Prophecy Radio hoping to accomplish next year? We want to bring as many exclusives to you as we possibly can! But we're super excited to start The Kane Chronicles. Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (00:54:52) We're talking about The Last Olympian chapter 18. How can Clarisse survive being turned into a block of ice? Chiron standing in between Kronos and Mount Olympus is pretty badass. Annabeth gave it a good old college try, but it just wasn't enough. How could you not LOVE AND RESPECT Nico di Angelo until the ends of the Earth after this scene?? Seeing Demeter and Persephone in action was pretty cool. And speaking of badasses—Paul and Sally can totally handle their own! Why does Ethan Nakamura have such a place of honor amongst Kronos' army? We need more fanart from the Battle of Manhattan! Feedback (01:19:49) A positive guy says he's really looking forward to Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem and Fury of the Dragon Goddess. Meanwhile, Phoebe's got her heart set on The Sun and the Star. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 65, where we'll discuss the Lightning Thief illustrated edition, as well as the graphic novel! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Each episode, our Prophecy Radio hosts and their guests will keep you up to date on the latest information coming out of Camp Half-Blood, including upcoming books and adaptation news, discuss a topic of choice, and do a chapter by chapter reread of the Percy Jackson series. Serious Fun returns with the first of three live episodes recorded in front of a live audience at the Brown County Library Pop Con on October 1, 2022! First, Bryan sits down with acclaimed, award-winning author Lori M. Lee to discuss her work on books like Pahua and the Soul Stealer, as well as representation in fantasy and science fiction, breaking into the industry, the responsibility that comes with adding Hmong culture to the genre, and more! We also talk a lot more about Kingdom Hearts than I think anyone expected. Check out Lori on Twitter at https://twitter.com/lorimlee, and get your copy of Pahua and the Soul Stealer, Forest of Souls, Broken Web, and the Gates of Thread and Stone series wherever books are sold!
Prophecy Radio episode #49 does a complete breakdown of the 2022 D23 Expo event, in which we got a Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailer. Karen and Kristen also tackle all the latest news, including a new project from John Rocco, as well as discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 4. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:04) Haley and John Rocco have some new books coming out! Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting by Roseanne A. Brown is officially out in the world! You can read an excerpt on Read Riordan. Pahua and the Soul Stealer by Lori M. Lee is now out in paperback. For better or worse, Aphrodite wrote a guide to love on Read Riordan. Whew, that was fast, but we want to get to the good stuff! D23 and the Percy Jackson teaser trailer (00:04:33) Karen makes a public apology for ever doubting they would release a Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailer. Is it actually surprising we got a teaser trailer this early? We're kind of shocked we've gotten no god casting in the meantime! Karen goes through her experience waiting for the Percy Jackson segment of the D23 Branded Television panel. By the way, American Born Chinese seems like something Percy Jackson fans would enjoy! We discuss the two mini clips we got from the panel's montage intro. That first shot of Percy—where in the story could it be from? Then we definitely got a shot of Sally and Percy out in the rain. Next up, we discuss the concept art for the Hermes Cabin. Is the D23 Disney Branded Television panel online anywhere? If we find it, we'll link to it! Grover is the protector.
Shelia and Dee talk about September programs and books we're reading and recommending. Books mentioned include: Sugar and Salt by Susan WiggsThe Cartographer's Secret by Tea CooperThe Black Witch by Laurie ForestThe Bone Garden by Tess GerritsenThe Surgeon by Tess GerritsenNo Bad Deed by Heather ChavezOut of the Clear Blue Sky by Kristin HigginsThe Forest of Souls by Lori M. Lee
Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then do a deep dive on the god of war himself, Ares (plus fancast him for Percy Jackson and the Olympians), as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 17 and 18. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:47) Did anyone enjoy #TitansCurseWeek? Oh well, hope you're prepared for #BattleOfTheLabyrinthWeek! If you've read Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, then you already know who Rudy Rocks is. With Ballad and Dagger coming out this week, it's time to meet Mateo Matisse and Chela Hidalgo. We also got some great book news this week! First up, Pahua and the Soul Stealer by Lori M. Lee is getting TWO sequels. We also have an official title for City of the Plague God book 2. Plus, Sarwat Chadda is designing his own cover! Then Kristen surprises Karen with even more news—Tiger Honor by Yoon Ha Lee is getting a sequel. Everyone is highly anticipating Percy Jackson and the Olympians casting, especially because we just found out our Grover is headed to Vancouver. And don't worry! There WILL be more updates soon. By the way, Rick doesn't mind if the cast of the musical (or probably the show) signs your books! How do we get our hands on some blue candy? Becky and the kids helped Rick with research for Sea of Monsters! Isn't that nice? Say hello to the Koningsdam. Walker Scobell did an interview with Rolling Stone in which he talked about reading Percy Jackson for the first time. Deep Dive: Ares (00:17:29) Ares was a fun god to do, especially after the craziness that was Zeus. What does Ares look like according to Greek mythology? Why does Ares have so many sacred animals? We debate poisonous versus venomous. We also learn the differences between Ares and Athena, as deities of war. Ares is so much more than just the god of war. Is Ares a coward? Ares' fortress in Thrace sounds kind of awesome, to be honest. What would YOU be the god of? You won't be too surprised when you learn who worshiped Ares. We don't want to know how Ares wound up with dragon sons. Now we know who to blame for those skeleton warriors, and it isn't Ares!! It should come as no surprise that Ares was put on trial for murder. What is Ares like in the Percy Jackson books? It's always interesting how we envision characters in a book differently than they're described. A baseball bat is the perfect weapon for his spear to turn into. Wait, how big is his motorcycle!? Never forget the seat made of Caucasian human skin. Ares is definitely an iconic character. Karen's first pick would be perfect based on looks alone, but he's a little too old. Meanwhile, Kristen's least likely pick would be awesome but he doesn't usually play outright villains. Karen's next pick is a Sons of Anarchy alum, but maybe not the one you're thinking. Kristen's next choice is definitely a pretty boy, but she's very certain he could pull off being Ares. The first person Karen thought of is someone we all know, and he's played good guys and bad guys alike. We take a break and play a little bit of word association. Kristen's next pick is used to playing big, intimidating characters. Karen's top choice will come as no surprise to anyone who knows her. Kristen's final choice has played an extremely evil character in the past. We had a listener write in with her own pick for Ares! Never Doubt Rick Riordan. Chapter Reviews (01:03:52) We're getting close to the end of the book! Starting off, let's get into Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapter 17. Thalia seems a lot more herself in this chapter. “The sky still yearns to embrace the earth.” We discuss the importance of that grey streak in Annabeth's hair. Why did Percy's sword fail him? Percy is so brave! He's such a fantastic character. Thank goodness for Mr. Chase. Thalia versus Luke was a pretty awesome scene. How would we have felt if Luke had died at the end of this chapter? Is that REALLY where the story of Santa Clause came from? It's so amazing to see how far Percy has come with Thalia and Zoë. Now it's time for Titan's Curse chapter 18. This one was pretty rough. But once again we have to shout-out Mr. Chase trying his best. How does one monster-proof a house? Asking for a friend. Annabeth ran away for the first time when she was seven. Is her dad really the same person he was back then? The fact that their relationship is messy is actually quite realistic, and it's good for kids to see in media. Zoë's death scene was brutal. How long did she know she was the one from the prophecy? We get to meet some new pegasi. Annabeth and Percy should've hugged!! So, Luke is totally not dead. What now!? And why was Annabeth so certain about that? Would Percy have felt Luke deserved to die if he hadn't just lost Bianca and Zoë? Karen's up to her usual terrible jokes. Feedback (01:45:40) Jessica asks us how long Annabeth held up the sky, and we try our best to figure it out. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 31, where we'll do a deep dive on the god Hades and discuss our fancasting for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then imagine what it would be like if Percy Jackson had its own land at Disney World, as well as analyze chapters 15 and 16 of Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:26) Good vibes and antibiotics FTW. Thank you to everyone who entered our Tiger Honor giveaway! Hopefully we'll have more in the future. How about that Lords of Night cover? Happy birthday, Lori M. Lee! This is your reminder that pre-ordering books is a huge help to your favorite authors! Oh, and in case you were still wondering about that rumor that Arnold was playing Zeus… Percy Jackson at Disney World (00:08:59) The likelihood of this happening is low, but we're gonna run with it. How much blue food is too much blue food? What would be the best way to order a surprise ambrosia smoothie? We all want to sit around the campfire and eat s'mores, right? Is there a way to make burnt offerings to the gods? There are so many opportunities for merch ideas, but we're gonna talk about a few of our favorites. Would it be impractical to change our money into gold drachmas? You can never have enough pins. Or stuffed animals, for that matter. Even putting together the look of the shops could be fun. They can take a lot of inspiration from Harry Potter—but do it better. There is no reality in which we don't get a water ride. What if we got an experience like The Forbidden Journey? Would you want to be dropped from the top of the Empire State Building? Don't worry, we've got some non-roller coaster rides, too. We're gonna try to incorporate Rainbow and the fish ponies into everything. What kind of shows could we see? Would they be able to incorporate the musical? And we definitely need a water show. Could you imagine!? There's plenty of room to make some of this educational, too. What's the legality of having a climbing wall and an armory? The Big House would make for a great haunted mansion. And a Pegasus-themed people mover would be so much fun. What if you were able to send an Iris message? Jannik writes in again to let us know whether any of this could ever happen. Merch and face characters seem likely in the future. How did we forget to talk about the hotels!? It's nice to know that even if Percy doesn't get his own world, there are still a lot of wonderful things to come for us. Chapter Reviews (00:49:40) Let's get into Sea of Monsters chapter 15. Tyson's back!! Percy giving Polyphemus a second chance is kind of a big deal. Sometimes the sentences we have to say on this podcast are very strange. Shoutout to Socrates from Daughter of the Deep! Karen gets deep about the cyclopes. Clarisse is pretty cool before she goes full Clarisse. Who wants a Golden Fleece weighted blanket? Percy probably had his first dreamless sleep in months. Karen remembered the name of the empathy link this time. Now it's time for Sea of Monsters chapter 16. We can't stop saying nice things about Tyson. And let's just say these kids are quite decisive despite their age. Will Percy view all monsters differently going forward? Why does Clarisse have to be so infuriating!? Will Clarisse take responsibility for her actions? We love your feedback because it reminds us we're not alone! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 20, where we'll talk about our ideas for a Percy Jackson video game. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz talk about what's new in the Percy Jackson fandom, discuss all the books the Rick Riordan Presents authors have written outside of the Disney imprint, and analyze chapters 13 and 14 of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:07) This might be the longest doc we've had so far. First and foremost, we have news from Rick's blog! There's no current plan for a Daughter of the Deep sequel, but never say never! The Lords of Night: A Shadow Bruja Novel and Serwa Boateng's Guide of Vampire Hunting have official release dates and synopses. We have an official update on where in the process the Nico di Angelo book currently is. The book is at 117,000 words. How many pages is that? We're probably not getting anymore Percy Jackson television show news until 2022. That includes no news for Disney+ Day. BUT we know Becky and Rick have reviewed some casting callback tapes. Read Riordan has spotlights on Nelinha, Ester, and Gemini. The Last Fallen Star is officially in New Zealand! You can sing to the karaoke version of The Lightning Thief Musical! (Edit: Apparently this is from 2019, and we had no idea!) “Forget Horse Girls, Embrace the Mythology Freak” by Jenny G. Zhang (here's the tweet) Sorry, Frank. Why did we like mythology so much, and what do all the mythology freaks have in common? (Say hi to Callie!) Rick Riordan Presents authors' other series (00:18:47) We're really excited about all the books, novellas, anthologies, and short stories these authors have written. But fair warning: There are A LOT. Anthologies have really made a resurgence lately, and we're into it. Up first is Roshani Chokshi, who wrote the Pandava Quintet/Aru Shah books! She's got some other stories here about Hindu mythology that might be for older audiences. And one of her books definitely gives Six of Crows vibes, if you're into that! Next up is J.C. Cervantes! Look, sometimes words are hard. Karen just wants to keep Kristen on her toes. Yoon Ha Lee, who wrote Dragon Pearl, is a very prolific writer. There's a lot of sci-fi here, and some really cool concepts. Kristen gets her mind blown, repeatedly. Festus, is that you? Thank the gods for Wikipedia. Next on our happy hit parade is Carlos Hernandez, who wrote Sal & Gabi. Karen learned a fun fact about him, and she is very excited. Short stories can get W E I R D. Kwame Mbalia wrote the Tristan Strong series, as well as some other cool books. Black Boy Joy seems like a really important book to have right now. You might as well just assume almost everyone has written short stories. Tehlor Kay Mejia wrote the Paola Santiago series, and she's up next. She's got some great titles. If you liked Dumplin', then you might like Miss Meteor. Forests are so cool and creepy. Karen gets a book idea in the middle of recording. Graci Kim wrote the Gifted Clan series, and Karen has a quick aside about the last book in the series. She hasn't written any other books, but we have some fun facts to share about her! Who knew running away to the circus was so common? Rebecca Roanhorse wrote Race to the Sun, and a lot more!. You should watch Love and Monsters. And then go read Roar by Cora Carmack. We love a good title. And a good name. How do we feel about historical fiction? Here's LeVar Burton reading “Wherein Abigail…,” “Takeback Tango,” and “Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience ™.” Sarwat Chadda wrote City of the Plague God, as well as some other interesting books! Have you seen A Little Princess? Shoutout to Animorphs! More short stories! More anthologies! Next up is Lori M. Lee, who wrote Pahua and the Soul Stealer. She's a busy lady, but she does plan to finish her Gates of Thread and Stone series. See? Forests are creepy! Yeah, you should definitely read A Thousand Beginnings and Endings. Roseanne A. Brown wrote Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting, which we are very excited about. She also just finished up her duology in her A Song of Wraiths and Ruin series. They have some incredibly stunning covers. It's so cool that so many of these authors have written for Marvel and Star Wars, too. Daniel José Older wrote Ballad & Dagger, which definitely has some shared threads with one of his other series. If you're looking for an adult series, look no further than Bone Street Rumba! Daniel has written *all* kinds of books. Well-behaved spirits are super lame. Who else loves Waterworld?? Stacey Lee will be writing Winston Chu Versus the Whimsies, and Karen's definitely heard of her books before. Bridgerton might be a little spicy for our younger listeners. Historical fiction about non-white stories are always interesting reads. Everyone is running away to the circus! Karen brings the whole podcast down. Lastly, we've got Tracey Baptiste, who will be writing Moko Magic. Lots of jumbies here! Let's throw in some Minecraft, shall we? More jumbies! Plus, some non-fiction! We did it! We made it! We hope you found your next read. If you've read any of these, let us know which ones we should start with! Chapter Reviews (01:19:21) Let's talk about The Lightning Thief chapters 13 and 14. Grover sleeps a lot. Thank the gods for Annabeth. That chimera? No, thank you. Ohio reference! Karen breaks Kristen. It's always interesting when the female goddesses give birth to the demigods. Annabeth's childhood sounds rough, and it's so sad. But we can't wait to see her relationship with her father improve. Percy doesn't want to be enemies! What, exactly, is Poseidon's domain? Prophecy Count: 4 Percy can see through the Mist a lot better now. The dark is very scary. Percy really needed to take this moment to reflect on everything that's happening to him. Who was the woman in the water? How did that lady see through the Mist? But, seriously, how exactly does the Mist work? How has Percy never noticed he can breathe underwater? Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next week for episode 8, which will discuss some Daughter of the Deep spoilers. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. "My goal for this world was to bring together the western medieval-style fantasies I loved growing up with bits of my own cultural influences. Growing up, I didn’t think that characters that looked like me could have the happy ending." - Lori M. Lee Lori M. Lee was born in the mountains of Laos, but grew up in the far less tropical climate of Wisconsin where she still resides, although every winter makes her question why. She considers herself a unicorn aficionado, enjoys marathoning TV shows, and loves to write about magic, manipulation, and family. She is the author of several YA sci fi and fantasy books, including GATES OF THREAD AND STONE series, as well as a contributor to the anthologies COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES and A THOUSAND BEGINNINGS AND ENDINGS. Her newest book, FOREST OF SOULS, released June 23 and is a 2020 Junior Library Guild selection. Connect with Lori on her website, Twitter, or Instagram.
