Laten we beginnen… 08:50 Zonder noodfonds energie zitten 900.000 huishouden in energiearmoede.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 6, “We Take a Zebra to Vegas” (00:15:21) What did we think of this episode overall? Let's kick off our discussion by breaking down Percy's latest nightmare. The Iris Message scene was amazing for SO many different reasons. Why was Luke in Chiron's office??? You should've heard our shriek when Luke called Percabeth an old married couple. Percy needs to be a little more aware of how sensitive some demigods are about their parents. Who has two thumbs and can release a horde of animals into downtown Las Vegas? Does Grover not care about humans? Did you catch that cute turtle on the median? The Lotus Hotel and Casino was beautiful, inside and out. “Levitating” by Dua Lipa was an inspired choice. We love how the kids immediately remembered about the Lotus Eaters. Graphic novels (and audiobooks) still count as reading!! We finally get a Wise Girl!!! Grover seemed a little miffed at Annabeth. We get some backstory on Luke and Hermes. Meanwhile, Grover meets Augustus. Annabeth doesn't know what to do about the bigger plan at play here and Percy is SHOCKED. Why would Pan be in the Lotus Hotel and Casino? Does anyone know what story Hermes was telling when he was first introduced? The way Hermes' face turns pained when they introduce them as Luke's friends! Was there anything of note in Hermes' office? Annabeth has all the subtly of a sledgehammer. Mortal/god relationships are toxic. What was up with that Young Percy flashback? Hermes is insidious in a different way from Ares. Did you catch Annabeth pulling out her hat as she left? Hermes has some great quotes about parenting. What is Hermes' motivation here? Speaking of motivation, what about Augustus' motives? Was Grover actually close to finding Pan? Percy chose not to lie to Grover about how he kind of made them late. The driving scene was hilarious, and we loved every second. Does 3N17 stand for anything? They made it to Santa Monica in one piece!! This episode gave us some flashbacks to the Tartarus scenes from the books. Is this the same nereid from the other episode? The deadline already passed!! Percy refuses to give up on his quest. There's no way one of those pearls doesn't break, right? What's the difference between a nereid and a naiad? Feedback (01:51:13) notjustanotherfangirl is looking forward to season 2's credits sequence. Nicolaas rightly says that mechanical monster from episode 1 was a rhino, not a bull. Morgan had a guess for those bat/serpent/octopus creatures. Judith likes that Grover doesn't eat random things when he's upset. Jessica wants to know which added scenes we've liked best so far. Solomon had some thoughts on Medusa. Toby Stephens News warns us that making viewers reevaluate the definition of monstrosity is Jon Steinberg's love language. We need Athena and her owl ASAP. Jessica writes back in to talk about the winter solstice visit. And Nicolaas also loved Hephaestus' musical cues. Prophecy Radio episode #112 is what you've all been waiting for, folks. We're here to discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 1, “I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher.” This is our in-depth, spoiler-filled analysis of the first episode—with the second episode's discussion coming soon. We also go through some of the articles that came out of Percy Jackson press week, and read out a few pieces of listener feedback. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:04:22) We are once again reminding you to check out Prophecy Radio Reading Room. If you want to read through the Percy Jackson and the Olympians press week coverage, as well as our spoiler-free thoughts, you can check out this article. Read Riordan gave us the Pahua and the Dragon's Secret cover reveal, plus the synopsis and release date for Lori M. Lee's book. Rainbow Crate posted a list of 20 queer mythology books that we think you might like—and it even includes The Sun and the Star! Bear McCreary seemingly confirms Film Music Reporter‘s tweet that the Percy Jackson and the Olympians soundtrack will be out on December 22. Apparently, Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 1 will be on Hulu. TotalFilm shared a new shot of the trio. Entertainment Weekly released an article about the show, which included both behind-the-scenes footage and some amazing new images. In a second article, EW also talked about planting seeds for future seasons and when we might see Athena. This B-roll footage has no audio, but it's cool to watch anyway. In a new scene, Grover arrives at Percy and Sally's place with half a goat in his pants. A second scene was released in which Percy meets Mr. D for the first time. We also got some short clips for Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, as well as a three days left promo. Leah Sava Jeffries IS Annabeth Chase. Aryan Simhadri IS Grover Underwood. Walker Scobell IS Percy Jackson. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 1, “I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher” (00:24:28) It's finally here! What are our first impressions of Percy Jackson and the Olympians? That opening shot was really fantastic, and we're obsessed with the camerawork. This is definitely the dream sequence, right? Azriel Dalman as Young Percy is so, so good. And look! There's Blackjack! The colchis bull turning into the garbage truck was amazing, and we love Percy's drawing. We go through all of Percy's drawings in his notebook and figure out which monsters he's seen and heard about. We NEED a set of Mythomagic cards. Sally explains that not all heroes are heroic, and not all monsters are monstrous. We already hate Nancy and Mrs. Dodds. They're the worst! People who don't know that's Riptide are about to be very surprised. Did you catch the moment when Grover and Percy trade for the inside of their sandwiches? Use the Force, Percy! Alecto's transformation was beautiful but also terrifying. Did you catch Rick's cameo in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 1? Percy is so mad that Grover betrayed him, and we honestly can't fault him for that. Eddie is totally the MVP of the episode (aside from Sally, of course). You can tell Gabe is a terrible person by his choice in footwear. We learn how to ACTUALLY pronounce Mr. Brunner's name. Let's discuss Sally and Gabe's relationship in the show because it feels different from the books. Who is speaking to Percy in his dream? The exposition in this show is done so, so well. Was Percy able to heal himself in the drainage ditch because it was filled with water? “You are singular” really stuck out to us. Percy is PISSED, and the minotaur is gonna pay for what it did to his mother. We finally, finally get a glimpse of Annabeth. Welcome to Camp-Half Blood! We loved the end credits sequence so much, we went through it frame by frame to pick out all the secrets. Feedback (01:45:35) Monster Donut Podcast tweeted out a picture of all of us interviewing Rick and Becky. Paloma was so proud of us. Thank you! Becky managed not to cringe at any of her quotes. Timi loved how the kids absolutely raided their wardrobes. Nicolaas loved Charlie's skills with a sword. Seaweed Brain Podcast clipped the video of our question to Rick and Becky. The DamMemePage thinks we're creative! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 113, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 2 in detail! The refugees stay in Japan lasted much longer than their brief transit visas had initially allowed for, with the imperial government allowing them to remain for several months. Though some refugees made it to the United States or other countries, most had nowhere to go. With the Japanese government commencing the operational planning for Pearl Harbor, they wished to rid the country of all foreign elements, and the refugee community was unceremoniously deported to Shanghai, China, under Japanese occupation, where they'd remain throughout the war. Many refugees were assisted by Professor Setsuzo Kotsuji, who later converted to Judaism. Others were assisted by the Polish ambassador to Japan Tadeusz Romer. The Jewish rescue activist Zorach Warhaftig continued to be active on behalf of the refugee community as well. The Dutch national Nathan Gutwirth was able to rescue a ship of 74 refugees who were missing documentation, by requesting assistance from the Dutch consul in Kobe, Japan, Nicolaas de Voogd. De Voogd provided the desperate refugees with Curacao visas, enabling them to arrive in Japan.   Cross River, a leading financial institution committed to supporting its communities, is proud to sponsor Jewish History Soundbites. Prophecy Radio episode #108 finally discusses Chalice of the Gods chapters 12-14, which we've been promising for a couple weeks now! We also do a deep dive into the brand-new, full-length Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer. The show is almost a month out now, and we're getting more excited than ever! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:09:46) We spend a good part of our intro talking about the fact that Goodreads removed the middle grade & children's, poetry, and graphic novels categories. Timothy Omundson wrote a beautiful message on Instagram about playing Hephaestus. Andrew Alvarez FINALLY confirmed he's playing Chris Rodriguez. We found out that the review embargo lifts on December 14. Liam gives us some pretty amazing stats about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer. Okay, it's time to talk about the full-length Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer. We cannot get over how much Azriel Dalman looks like a young Walker Scobell! Seaweed Brain Podcast mentioned how they went to NYCC and found out that Percy and Sally's relationship will be expanded for the show. There are a bunch of blink-and-you'll-miss-it flashes of footage before the title hits the screen. We're totally supposed to hate Nancy Bobofit, but we really love this actress. Gotta be careful about how trailers are cut because it could be misleading! Is that shot of Blackjack from the opening seven minutes of the show? We also see Chiron give Percy Riptide, which was another scene they got to see at NYCC 2023. Did you catch that quick flash of Cerberus jumping for the red ball in Percy's hand? What do you think of Luke's scar? It definitely looks like the minotaur comes down from the sky. Still laughing at the choice to make Poseidon's shirt so wrinkly. Did you notice that the top of Poseidon's throne looks like waves? We discuss what the thrones actually look like according to the book. Placing the master bolt down in from of the Empire State Building guard was SO exciting to see! Clarisse's spear is BADASS. Is that dark forest the underworld? If so, could what we thought was the oracle actually be something else? Could we possibly see Hestia? Percy's shirt is SO MUCH BRIGHTER than everyone else's. We're so glad this trailer gives us some more humorous moments. Is that hydra target a reference to the first movie!? Did you catch the demigod in a wheelchair? What lit up the tunnel of love ride? Annabeth is amazing, but we're not telling you anything you don't already know. Unlock your destiny. Unleash your power. Hold fast. Brave the storm. OUR HEARTS. That chimera looks terrifying! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:45:39) This week, we're starting off with Chalice of the Gods chapter 12. We really love how much of a slice-of-life story this is. Percy was impressive, but not TOO impressive. The Mist really works wonders! We're kind of obsessed with Standard Olympian Beverage Number 5. Percy fills Ganymede in on the plan, and even though Ganymede is nervous, he's choosing to trust his elected demigod. Percy and Annabeth chat via Iris Message, and we love their relationship so much. But we still have a lot of questions about how they earn drachmas! Imagine being Annabeth's roommate lol. In Chalice of the Gods chapter 13, the trio meets up with Blanche. Grover is obsessed with Blanche. Karen is obsessed with Blanche. Everyone is obsessed with Blanche. We get a really specific description of Iris, and her eyes sound absolutely mesmerizing. Reptile guys and goth girls really go together, if you didn't already know. Is complete indifference the best way to get your godly parent's attention!? We discuss the favor that Annabeth now owes Blanche for introducing them to her mother. Next up is Chalice of the Gods chapter 14, in which Iris gives Percy a big stick! Imagine that, Iris is actually a good listener. And being a cupbearer is a thankless job. The goddess doesn't give information away for free, so they have a quest within a quest to accomplish. We also get an official deadline for Ganymede's quest, and it's pretty long compared to most of the others Percy's had to deal with over the years. Where is the River Elisson and how can they possibly find it!? Now the horned serpents and all the rainbows on the Chalice of the Gods UK cover make so much more sense. Feedback (01:13:15) Sean has another guess as to what could be in the box. Nicolaas may have fallen behind (it's okay!), but he was excited to jump into our discussion of all the recent Percy Jackson and the Olympians footage. And Ms. Bobbilicious also wrote in to tell us her idea for Rick's cameo—and we LOVE IT. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 109, in which we'll discuss Chalice of the Gods chapters 15-17! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (00:23:26) This week, we're tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 14. This is a classic Rick Riordan chapter title. It's so hard not to picture Hannibal Lecter now. The Hall of Ages is gorgeous, and we can't wait to see it on screen! We're really impressed with the visual timeline of Egypt. It's time to meet the Chief Lector and the French guy. HOW old is the Chief Lector!? Can Iskandar read Carter's mind? Why is Desjardins so weird!? He's giving…Cornelius Fudge. And while we're at it, why is it SO bad to consort with gods!? Fly or die! Or something like that. Prophecy Radio episode #75 looks into how Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt influenced each other over the years, and how their culture, art, and religion transformed due to contact between these two great societies. (We promise it's a lot more interesting than it sounds!) As always, we also catch you up on all the latest Riordanverse news, including the death of Lance Reddick, who will be portraying Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Lastly, we continue our journey through The Kane Chronicles with The Red Pyramid chapter 2. Remember, we're keeping this discussion spoiler-free! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:06:06) Lance Reddick passed away on March 17, at the age of 60, from natural causes. Read Rick Riordan's beautiful tribute to Lance Reddick. Donations may be made to momcares.org in Baltimore, his hometown. These are the goddesses you should be worshiping this women's history month. What do your favorite gods and demigods have planned for spring break? If you can't make one of the Sun and the Star tour stops, be sure to check your local bookstores/libraries for release parties! Connecting Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt (00:14:30) Get ready to learn some stuff! Karen went full-out to teach you about this topic today. And where should we start? The beginning, of course! The Greeks held Ancient Egypt in high regard, a kingdom full of wisdom and culture. Did you know that Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics influenced the Greek alphabet? Have you ever heard of the city of Naucratis? During the Hellenistic period, the Greeks ruled Egypt, allowing the Egyptians to retain many of their practices. We love a good word of the day, so here's yours: syncretic. Apologies to all the ancient philosophers and mathematicians whose names we pronounce incorrectly. Herodotus is considered the Father of History, and he equated several of the Egyptian gods with their Greek counterparts. Some of these really do make a lot of sense. Do you remember why Serapis is so important? We are NOT endorsing the conquering of other countries, but if you have to…assimilate into their culture. Greek and Egyptian creation myths definitely contain some of the same themes. Remember when we talked about Io? Turns out she's pretty important to what we're talking about today. Don't let a god breathe on you or there could be some serious consequences. Everything really is coming full circle. Thoth and Hermes are basically the same person, and both the Egyptians and the Greeks loved them. The Egyptians weren't the only ones who influenced the Greeks, but we'll have to talk about that some other time. Sources: Oxford University Press: Ancient Greek and Egyptian interactions Medium: Egyptian influence on Ancient Greece Jstor: Egyptian influence on Ancient Greece Pantheon: Heracles Wikipedia: Ma'at Wikipedia: Ancient Egyptian creation myths Wikipedia: Ancient Egyptian creation myths Wikipedia: Isis Wikipedia: Hermes Trismegistus The Collector: The God Hermes: The Roman obsession with the Egyptian God Thoth The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid (00:54:30) This week, we're reading The Red Pyramid chapter 2. Who is Imhotep and what kind of spells can he do? Openly staring at Sadie because she looks different than Carter and their dad is so rude. The Rosetta Stone is so cool, and this week's discussion was very relevant to the chapter! Saying “regular mortals” is highly suspicious. Why does Sadie go along with Carter to lock up the curator? This book feels so interactive, and we love how we can see the hieroglyphics on the page. How is Sadie able to translate everything her dad is saying!? It's so sad that they wrecked that room in the British Museum. Is Julius really Dr. Kane's name? What is the House (capital H)? And who walked through the door!? We hope that staff wasn't important because it's gone now. Good-bye…Osiris!? Do the people from the House really want to kill the kids? Should Kristen know who the fire man is at this point!? Feedback (01:25:29) Edward has a theory for how Annabeth knew about Percy's Achilles' heel. Rowen wrote in to make sure we knew Caoimhe meant Demigods & Magicians by Rick Riordan. Rowen also asked about some more fancasting, but we're going to save that for later (so we have more time to think). Henry has a great idea for how to make the Riordanverse timeline easier to keep track of. Teddy asks what Prophecy Count we're on and what book recommendations we have. Nicolaas says we should add our dreams from last week to the Prophecy Count, but that might be a little dangerous. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 76, where we'll talk about some of the movies and TV shows from Lance Reddick's vast catalogue before tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 3. Prophecy Radio episode #73 looks back on our re-read of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Which book is our favorite? Did any of our opinions change now that we're older and wiser? We also tackle all the latest Riordanverse news, including more information about Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods and some books from a few Rick Riordan Presents authors we think you might like. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:02:59) We're back to talk about Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods because Read Riordan had a little teaser about what the chickens will get up to in this story. Rick also wrote a blog on February 24 that gave us some information about the UK and international additions, as well as signed copies. We've heard variations of his answer before, but we discuss the latest bit of information regarding whether there will be more Percy Jackson books after Chalice of the Gods. If you love Magnus Chase and Alex Fierro, then Read Riordan has the article for you! Karen wrote a book review for The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi, so be sure to check that out. And don't forget that Lucha of the Night Forest by Tehlor Kay Mejia and Into the Light by Mark Oshiro both come out soon! Percy Jackson and the Olympians Retrospective (00:13:16) Now that we've finished all five books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, we're doing a bit of a retrospective to see how we feel about them overall. Even though we all remember what happens in The Lightning Thief, we revisit it for reasons. This book is so good at introducing us to this world and the characters that occupy it. Can you imagine if someone was like nah, we don't need anymore books about Percy Jackson? These kids were SO YOUNG, and things just keep getting darker as they grow up. Moving on to Sea of Monsters, it's apparent that this book laid a lot of groundwork for character development. It was nice to see more Clarisse, but this book also brought us Tyson!!! He's so genuine and loveable. He was really the perfect character to teach Percy and Annabeth a valuable lesson. As we start talking about Titan's Curse, we confess which books are our least favorites (but we swear we still love them!). Annabeth is gone for SO LONG in this book. The Hunters of Artemis are so iconic, and it's pretty cool to meet and get to know Artemis better. On a scale from approachable to aloof, where do all of the gods land? We get to say hello to Nico, but we also have to say goodbye to Bianca. Battle of the Labyrinth is such a dense book because there's so much going on. We also have to balance a lot of characters in this book, both new and old. Nico has a lot of feelings, and we can't say we blame him. The Labyrinth is a character in and of itself. That battle at Camp Half-Blood was a lot more significant than we first realized. Now we're onto the The Last Olympian There's a lot of Backstory! in this book. We kind of love that the Battle of Manhattan takes up so much room. That final confrontation is iconic, and so is Percy's decision to turn down immortality. Btw, Percabeth is a go. All right, what's our favorite book, and why? It's difficult choosing a favorite character, but we've got some pretty solid options. There are so many iconic moments from the books, and we can't wait to see them in the show. We should've totally planned to pick out our favorite creatures/monsters, too. We have a lot of favorite quotes to choose from, and it was tough to decide. This time, we stayed away from Percabeth quotes when we could, since we just talked about them in the last episode. This is yet another reminder that Rick is SO good at first lines. Now that we've really dissected these books, did we have any changes of heart? Did anything surprise us? Lastly, what are we looking forward to seeing the most when we finally get to Heroes of Olympus? Feedback (01:29:51) Nicolaas writes in to give us his answers to all our same questions. Karen's in the hot seat…is she gonna be replaced!? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 74, where we'll do an overview of the Egyptian gods before tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 1. Prophecy Radio episode #59 does another Monster Guide, this time on pit scorpions (and all related materials). In addition, the hosts discuss all the latest news in the Riordanverse, though we're happy to report it looks like everyone took a break during Thanksgiving week here in the States, as well as reread and discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 13. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:02:00) There's not a lot of news this time, which is pretty nice after the last couple of weeks. Read Riordan posted an article asking what are the gods and demigods thankful for this year? Becky answers a question about whether more The Sun and the Star samplers will be available. We also learned that the book will be 480 pages long. Monster Guide: Pit Scorpions (00:06:41) In turns out pit scorpions are kind of generic monsters, BUT we did find some scorpion-related content to talk about. Hesiod wrote of Skorpios and Orion, and there are several different versions of this myth. But they were both put into the sky, and they never appear at the same time! We also learn all about the Skorpios constellation and how it relates to Kristen and Karen specifically. Oh, and do you know what the Skorpios constellation is called in a culture that is very specific and related to our interests?? Scorpio is associated with death and rebirth, and you know what? That just makes a lot of sense. Can you guess what planet rules this sign? Ovid also wrote about Phaethon, the son of Helios, and how he drove his father's chariot among the stars. It's interesting to think about what real life things this story tries to explain. But what about pit scorpions in Percy Jackson? Let's just say, we wouldn't want to battle this monster, like, ever. Percy is also super lucky to have survived being stung by one. Do the scorpions come out to play during any of the battles? Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (00:19:12) It's time to talk about The Last Olympian chapter 13. Grover and Anya need to form a No Bunnies Allowed Club House. Would YOU have a snowball fight with a bunch of ice giants? We wonder how giants are usually portrayed throughout various pieces of media. Prometheus is a super interesting character, and we really liked his presence in the story. What advancement could Prometheus have given mankind? Can we actually trust what Prometheus is saying? That back-and-forth between Percy and Ethan was fantastic. This is Prophecy Count #28 because we make the rules. It couldn't have been easy for Luke to grow up with May as his mother. How did May end up the way she did? We might be skipping ahead here. Okay, we don't feel bad for Hermes here, but hear us out… We get a nice little Grover moment in this chapter. Who started the rumor that Pandora had a box!? Prometheus is very good at his job, and you know what really helps? He's not wrong. But you know who's worse than the Olympian gods. KRONOS! Percy was on FIRE this chapter! Figuratively speaking. Feedback (00:57:52) Thanks for your email, Edward! We love learning about the inconsistencies and mistakes throughout the books. Nicolaas gives us another Percy Jackson fun fact. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 60, where we'll talk about fanart, complete with a couple surprises! Prophecy Radio episode #57 does a Deep Dive on Hermes, which couldn't come at a better time since Lin-Manuel Miranda was just cast in the role for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show airing on Disney+ in 2024. In addition to talking about this latest bit of news, we also discuss the cover for Fury of the Dragon Goddess by Sarwat Chadda, as well as reread and discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 11. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:39) Read Riordan posted Ares' guide to fatherhood, and it's just about as helpful as you would think. What did you think of the new Ares/Clarisse artwork? They also posted the cover for Fury of the Dragon Goddess by Sarwat Chadda, the sequel to City of the Plague God. Sarwat is super excited for this book, and so are we! Did you catch the video of Rick trolling us for the big casting announcement? Okay, let's talk about the November 7 blog post. Yes, Lin-Manuel Miranda has been cast as Hermes in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This is quite a surprise, since in the books, he doesn't show up until Sea of Monsters. What could this mean for the rest of the casting, especially the Big Three? We love that Lin's kid is a fan of the books! What scene could Percy, Annabeth, and Hermes have together? Annabeth's reaction to Hermes is going to be VERY interesting. Deadline has a better description of Hermes' role in the show. Becky reminds everyone to be kind, and we discuss why some people aren't happy about the casting. Deep Dive: Hermes (00:26:12) Let's find out how Hermes ended up going to Juvie. Literally, what is Hermes NOT the god of?? We really love learning new words, can't you tell? Wait. One of his symbols is the WHAT? Hermes accomplished a lot as a baby and none of it was good. IS Hermes the god of cheeseburgers!? It's cool that Argus is tied into this myth, and we can't wait to see how he's portrayed in the show. Hermes could seriously use a little self-reflection. He's had a lot of children with a lot of women, and not all of it was consensual. As always, please bear with us regarding the pronunciation. We're trying! At what times does Hermes show up throughout the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles? We also get Hermes' physical description, and it reminds us of someone who is decidedly not Lin-Manuel Miranda. Can Hermes unlock any phone or computer? How do their powers work with modern technology? Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (00:49:11) It's time to talk about The Last Olympian chapter 11. Thank goodness for Blackjack because he saved the day multiple times. Are we more or less annoyed at Clarisse after this chapter? Oh, it's PERSONAL between Percy and the Minotaur. The necklaces on the Minotaur's axe?? OH, IT'S ON. How do those spoils of war work? Was the battle with the Minotaur anticlimactic, or was this on purpose? Percy has given Ethan SO many chances, the least he could do is NOT stab Annabeth!! Is it Kronos or the Kool-Aid Man? YOU DECIDE! The realities of war are heavy in this chapter, and it's especially hard when you're battling your friends and peers. Yet another named character has bitten the dust. Stakes are high. It's a good thing Pegasi gallop when they fly because the alternative is a little strange to imagine. Feedback (01:20:04) Nicolaas reminds us that we'll see the video shield again in the “Staff of Hermes” short story. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 58, where we'll come up with some recipes we think are worthy of the gods. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. HUGE congratulations to Sajni Patel for joining the Rick Riordan Presents family with A Drop of Venom. It's wins all around as Carlos Hernandez joins the Marvel comics family, too! Deep Dive: Dionysus (00:10:13) It's time to meet Dionysus—or, as he might be better known, Bacchus. As is the case with a few of the other gods, Bacchus' birth was…interesting. We also discuss the fact that Dionysus was known as Bacchus to both the Greeks AND the Romans. Unfortunately for Bacchus' aunt and uncle, Hera found out where they were, and it did NOT end well. Does she have any morals? Any regrets?? Wouldn't it be amazing if Dionysus led the meetings for the LGBTQIA+ Club at Camp Half-Blood? Also his superpowers are pretty awesome. Was Ampelos a friend or, like, a friend? Now we're gonna be sad every time we eat a grape. :( At least Bacchus knew how to party—and his followers took it VERY seriously. Were any other gods worshipped to the same level as Bacchus? His revels were LEGENDARY—and very deadly. And those maenads? On another level. Do we feel bad for Pentheus? Can gods just make up powers when they need them most? Ariadne had a relationship glow-up when she went from Theseus to Dionysus. Did you know Dionysus invaded India!? What about Mr. D from the Percy Jackson books? Dionysus is one of the gods we see the most in the series. He's got a lot of pretty interesting powers. Do you want to know more about Dionysus too? Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian discussion (00:35:06) It's time to jump into The Last Olympian chapter 2! Prophecy Count #23! We're definitely curious about these Titans. TELL US THE PLAN, RICK. Under other circumstances, it would be so exciting that Percy got to visit the underwater palace. This is not the same Poseidon we've seen before. Rick really talks about the complexities of war in this book, and it's only chapter 2!! Is Poseidon sometimes a good father? We legit forgot that we didn't know the whole of the Great Prophecy yet. Oh, hey, don't forget about the spy at Camp. Speaking of, we're so excited to go back to CBH! Feedback (00:58:56) Nicolaas tells us he likes the one chapter approach, and we're definitely feeling it, too! Laura also took us on a walk with her puppy. Please send us pictures of your pets! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 48 (to be determined…). This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #41 discusses what kind of Percy Jackson merch we'd love to see on sale when Percy Jackson and the Olympians hits Disney+ next year. The hosts also tackle the latest news, including our own update that Karen will be attending San Diego Comic-Con this year, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth chapters 15 and 16. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:39) Karen is going to San Diego Comic-Con! It looks like the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast and crew are filming episode 3 right now! Did we ever mention that we know who Nancy's friends will be played by at Yancy Academy? Rick Riordan's July 11 blog post doesn't provide an update on the show, but it does discuss Dante's Divine Comedy. A very happy birthday to Annabeth Chase! If you were thinking about celebrating with a Percy Jackson-inspired road trip, then boy does Read Riordan have an article for you! Percy Jackson merch (00:11:20) We got a little intense with our Percy Jackson merch ideas, but can you really blame us?? If you want to listen to us talk about our ideas for a Percy Jackson World at Disneyland, listen to episode #19. Karen is starting with Funkos because of course she is. We have adult money now. Kristen loves book items made useful for us mere mortals, and she has a ton of ideas! Karen is thinking of the basics while Kristen is out here thinking outside the box! We touched on a few of these brands and items with our holiday gift guide, but Kristen's come up with some new ideas. Surprise, surprise, Karen has another addiction: enamel pins. If Disney wants to give us credit, they can totally use our ideas. Blue candy is a total no-brainer. Can Jim Shore design some Percy Jackson figures for our shelves, too? What about shoes? Would you buy Vans for the different cabins? You know what else Disney does well? Mugs. Not to mention stuffed animals. Who wouldn't want a Blackjack plush!? Kristen totally wants an Arachne plush to cuddle. If you had a chess set, which figures would you put on each side? Can we start a Patreon so we can buy all this stuff!? Kristen's ideas are just so clever! Who wouldn't want to have their own way to send Iris Messages?? What about collectible drachmas? We have a nerdy Christmas tree, and it is EVERYTHING. Would you put some Percy Jackson posters on your wall? Do you know who Karen Hallion is? BECAUSE YOU SHOULD. There are so many options for different Percy Jackson board games. Day one billion of asking for a real-life mythomagic game. Then you gotta go with the classic Micky ears! We have so many more ideas, please make some of these! Also let's not forget about the adults who love Percy Jackson. Some of our listeners write in with their merch ideas, too! I DON'T KNOW, DO WE EVER TALK ABOUT MYTHOMAGIC??? Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth chapter reviews (00:58:38) It's time to talk about Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 15. Let's start with Ethan Nakamura, who is a surprising fan-favorite. Is Percy naive to think Ethan would be accepted back at Camp? Prophecy Count #22! In case you were wondering, Kronos is evil. The labyrinth is such a cool storytelling device. What did you think of that Quintus reveal? Shouldn't Quintus be able to say what he did to Perdix after all this time? Were we surprised by Quintus' betrayal, or did we see it coming? Was he really that surprised that Kronos betrayed him in return? Don't meet your heroes!! ENTER THE GHOST KING. Let's talk about Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 16. Can you imagine being able to hear when people die!? Turns out, Rachel has power over…chauffeurs. That visual of Luke's body was very dark. Is Ethan a sympathetic character? Why was Luke jealous of Percy? This chapter has one of the most iconic moments in all of Percy Jackson. Feedback (01:42:16) Nicolaas totally loves our idea of putting references in the TV show from other Disney properties. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 42, in which we'll do a Monster Guide on Medusa! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then discuss Walker Scobell in The Adam Project and how he'll make the perfect Percy, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 15 and 16. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:12) #SeaOfMonstersWeek is coming to a close, but we're primed and ready for #TitansCurseWeek! April 19 seemed to be a pretty big day for book releases. First up, we've got the Aru Shah and the End of Time graphic novel. Oh, and don't miss the Jambavan article on Read Riordan. Then we've got Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse (book 2 in the Between Earth and Sky series). Lastly, don't forget about Flirting with Fate by J.C. Cervantes. This week, we also got the announcement of Roshani Chokshi's new book, The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. Rick thanks the fans for putting Daughter of the Deep on the NYT bestsellers list for 25 weeks, and gives us an update on the screenplay. We also get a little update on the Kane Chronicles movie, as well as the Solaneglo book. Did you catch the chat between Rick Riordan and Daniel José Older? Do you know what well-known author helped him come up with the title Ballad & Dagger? We've also got a brand new Rick blog post to discuss! First up, a reminder that Rick is no longer on social media and that Ashlee Latimer posts from his accounts. Annabeth and Grover casting will be soon! Will Walker dye his hair black? Does Rick care if Annabeth is blonde? And we get some more reassurance that this adaptation is going to be awesome. The Adam Project starring Walker Scobell (00:21:27) How did we feel about The Adam Project the first time we watched it? What about the second? Surprising no one, we both really loved this one. Ryan Reynolds is always funny, but Walker really held his own. We talk about our favorite scenes and lines from the movie—ones that really remind us of Percy Jackson. There are even some shots from the movie that look like they could be from the show. Walker is going to be such a sassy Percy, and we are ready for it! Can't you just imagine him going toe-to-toe with Ares? Walker is a great physical actor, and that's going to come in handy for this show. Adam and his mom's relationship is a little snarkier than Percy and Sally's, but we can't wait to see it play out on screen. Speaking of moms, did you recognize Catherine Keener? The Maya/Adam standoff is not wholly unlike the Ares/Percy standoff. We're still curious how that scene at the end is going to play out. It's totally a lightsaber. There are so many scenes from Lightning Thief that will be awesome to see on screen, especially now that we know Walker is playing Percy. The Adam Project proves Walker Scobell has the capacity to do all sorts of roles. We're so excited for this!!! Chapter Reviews (00:41:43) Kristen's really working on those brief recaps. It's time to discuss Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapter 15! Hank and Chuck were pretty fantastic. But what does it look like back at the dam with the statues missing? It's cool that Sally can see through the Mist. There is so much more Rachel Elizabeth Dare to come. Nereus is basically a fish leprechaun. Karen stands by her love of Bessie. Did you know the origins of the manticore? Was Dr. Thorn or Kronos weaving some sort of magic over Thalia, or was she simply thinking the whole situation through? After all, she has valid reasons to be mad at Zeus and the Olympians. Maybe Mr. D does care about Peter Johnson? This whole scene was pretty spectacular. Now it's time for Titan's Curse chapter 16! We finally know for sure who Zoë's hero was. Can you believe Percy sacrificed the Nimean lion skin? Is no one worried about Grover!? The Chases are kind of…great? It was so interesting meeting Annabeth's dad for the first time. We don't blame her for not always getting along with him, but there's also no malice on his end, so it's easy to forgive him. You can definitely tell why Athena fell in love with him. Zeus made the wrong move trying to get rid of Thalia. And what about Percy and Zoë!? Atlas is not the nicest guy. Percy and Annabeth's reunion was supercharged, and we're here for it.. Feedback (01:20:22) Laura agrees with us—Tyson is the best! Huge thanks to Nicolaas for being impressed by our varied casting choices for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 30, where we'll talk about the god Ares and discuss our fancasting for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then conduct an interview with none other than Roshani Chokshi ahead of the release of Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 9 and 10. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:14) Kristen wonders, “What IS news?” but Karen is too tired to think about it. Roshani Chokshi is doing promo for Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, including a video where she answers questions in 11 seconds or less as well as a quiz based on the Pandava series. Did you know it was also Grover Underwood Appreciation Week? It's 2022. Would Grover be vegan? By complete coincidence, they were also talking about Grover in the writer's room. This is your weekly reminder to be patient about casting news. Thanks to Rebecca Kuss, we'll be getting new YA Rick Riordan Presents books soon! Read Riordan published an article for Women's History Month between J.C. Cervantes and Tehlor Kay Mejia. Plus, there's an article about Baby Boo from Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality. Did you tell Becky what kind of behind-the-scenes content you want to see? We've probably got a blog post incoming! Roshani Chokshi interview (00:18:45) Today, we have a very special guest in Roshani Chokshi, who is here to promote the fifth and final book in the Pandava series, Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality. Our first question is whether Rosh has any quirky habits when it comes time to sit down and write. And what about special snacks? You'll NEVER guess her answer. Is there an editing critique that Rosh hates seeing in her drafts? Just like Greek mythology, Hindu mythology isn't always appropriate for the children. Rosh tells us what it's been like to kick off the Rick Riordan Presents imprint. What kind of doors populate Roshani's subconscious? Is there any chance Roshani will ever return to the world of Aru Shah? Plus, Rosh gives us an update on the Aru Shah adaptation. Can you guess what her Greek godly parent would be? And what Rick Riordan Presents series would Rosh want to visit? Wanda Maximoff: Misunderstood heroine or villain in the making? And we get to hear about her cursed dream project. (For real, though, it sounds awesome.) What other projects does Roshani have coming up? Buy Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality by Roshani Chokshi from Disney Books, Bookshop.org, Book Depository, or Amazon. You can also add it to your Goodreads list. Chapter Reviews (00:51:48) Let's get back to Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse, shall we? Shockingly, we're going to start with chapter 9. It's realistic that Mr. D caught Percy, but how DARE he act high and mighty! Does Mr. D actually want to care about Percy and Annabeth and the others? What's going on with Zoë and this mysterious hero who broke her heart? Where in the world is Annabeth? Do we remember who the General is? Can we have a saber-tooth kitty? Please? Now it's onto chapter 10, and we're halfway through the book. Zoë would be a better leader if she just listened to people. Have you ever eaten astronaut food? Percy is a smart cookie! Should we do an episode on the spoils of war? Proud of you, Zoë. Kronos is a four-course meal of evil. Feedback (01:20:23) Nicolaas really loves Troy, and Karen once again admits she needs to rewatch it. And Mr. Pink is reading the series for the first time in English. How exciting! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 27, where we'll discuss Aru Shah and the End of Time. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz.
