In this interview with author Kristin L. Gray, she talks about her middle-grade novel THE AMELIA SIX: AN AMELIA EARHART MYSTERY. Set in Amelia Earhart's childhood home, this is a fun read for ages 8-12 that incorporates quirky characters, fun facts about Amelia, and the rich history of the Ninety-Nines. It's also a great book for promoting STEM with young girls and boys (my 9-year-old son loved it.)The blurb: Amelia Earhart's famous aviator goggles go missing and eleven-year-old Millie has to find them before the night is over in this girl-powered middle grade mystery.Eleven-year-old Amelia Ashford—Millie to her friends (if she had any, that is)—doesn't realize just how much adventure awaits her when she's given the opportunity of a lifetime: to spend the night in Amelia Earhart's childhood home with five other girls. Make that five strangers. But Millie's mom is a pilot like the famous Amelia, and Millie would love to have something to write to her about…if only she had her address.Once at Amelia's house in Atchison, Kansas, Millie stumbles upon a display of Amelia's famous flight goggles. She can't believe her good luck, since they're about to be relocated to a fancy museum in Washington, DC. But her luck changes quickly when the goggles disappear, and Millie was the last to see them. Soon, fingers are pointing in all directions, and someone falls strangely ill. Suddenly, a fun night of scavenger hunts and sweets takes a nosedive and the girls aren't sure who to trust. With a blizzard raging outside and a house full of suspects, the girls have no choice but to band together. It's up to the Amelia Six to find the culprit and return the goggles to their rightful place. Or the next body to collapse could be one of theirs. Be sure to check out Kristin's other books: VELONIA BEEBE TAKES CHARGE (middle-grade fiction), KOALA IS NOT A BEAR (picture book), and ROVER THROWS A PARTY (picture book).
In this conversation with Kristin L. Gray, author of THE AMELIA SIX and three other children's books, she talks about her writing and publishing journey, and offers advice for aspiring writers.

Post By: Adam Turteltaub On Tuesday, April 20th at the 2021 Compliance Institute the HCCA will be offering the session Work Smarter Not Harder: Effective Annual Work & Audit Plan Development Strategies. Joining us for this podcast are two of the speakers from that session: Kristin L. Meador (LinkedIn), Director Compliance Audit & Operations Organization Integrity & Compliance, and Brenda Manning (LinkedIn), Privacy Director and Privacy Officer, both at the Carilion Clinic. When designing a workplan, they recommend taking a fluid approach that recognizes that risks change and plans must as well. Start by gathering information from internal and external sources, look at what’s on the radar of CMS and OCR and where your organization is having a pattern of incidents. Internal Audit can be a particularly valuable ally, especially if they have surveyed leadership and have identified the risks on management’s mind. In planning, one thing to avoid is setting goals too high and putting too much on the team’s plate. It’s important to ensure that there are sufficient manhours available when things come up, as they inevitably do. Also, leave time for new and emerging risks. We have all seen how those can and have arisen over the last year. The key, they have found, is to have a SMART plan: Specific Measurable Achievable, Relevant and Time-based. When it comes to auditing, they remind us that you can’t audit everything. Instead, turn to the risk assessment and focus on the key areas. Also be prepared to adjust your thinking. Some areas may prove to have less risk than initially anticipated, others to have more. When it’s time to remediate, they make an interesting suggestion on training: Instead of testing right away, give time for the education to sink it, and then audit once again. Listen in to learn more, and then plan on attending their session at the 2021 Compliance Institute.

Welcome to the Family Culture Movement! From this point forward my interviews will take on a new format. The main question I will ask of all my guests is, what needs to change in the dominant culture according to their area of expertise. I have interviews lined up through the end of the year with this question front and center in the discussion. I was inspired by a BYU Devotional from Jonathan Sandberg in his talk "Healing = Courage + Action + Grace." One part, in particular, stood out to me. He said, “…We have to develop the courage to live counter to the world’s dominant culture. You know what I am talking about—the culture in which money, sex, material possessions, fame, violent behavior, and carnal exploits are the currency for success. We live in a world in which appearance and approval are the keys to social status and power. In order to find healing, we have to develop the courage to say no to this dominant culture. I love what Morrie Schwartz said to Mitch Albom about living counter to the culture in the book Tuesdays with Morrie: “The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. We’re teaching the wrong things. And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn’t work, don’t buy it. Create your own. “A number of wonderful BYU devotionals have described the unhealthy culture of perceived perfectionism and how we have to fight against it. In two devotionals given last year, both Tyler J. Jarvis and Kristin L. Matthews encouraged us to be more accepting of our imperfections and to be more pleased with our best approximations, our bodies, our gifts, and our differences. I encourage you to reread their talks. “Listen to what President Thomas S. Monson said about having the courage to live by truth and to avoid the unhealthy dominant culture: “Let us have the courage to defy the consensus, the courage to stand for principle. Courage, not compromise, brings the smile of God’s approval. . . . A moral coward is one who is afraid to do what he thinks is right because others will disapprove or laugh. “In her delightful way, author and devoted mother and grandmother Marjorie Pay Hinckley described the peace that comes when we refuse to compare and despair, as the ominant culture teaches: “Fifty was my favorite age. It takes about that long to learn to quit competing—to be yourself and settle down to living. It is the age I would like to be through all eternity! “In order to find healing, we have to develop the courage to avoid the culture that says there is only one acceptable way (i.e., a specific size, hair color, or ACT score) to be a good person or even a good Christian. There are many, many ways to be a righteous, positive influence in the world. If enough of us say no to the dominant culture, it will lose its power (see Joshua 1:9).” Get more resources for your intentional family culture by joining the Family Success Toolbox at www.homeandfamilyculture.com or Text CULTURE to (917) 905-8801.
Viewing Ourselves and Others Differently Michael J. Dorff, chair of the BYU Department of Mathematics at the time of this address, gave his devotional speech titled, "Seeing Things Differently." Kristin L. Matthews, BYU associate professor of English and coordinator of the American Studies Program at the the time of this address, gave her devotional speech titled "The Worth of Souls Is Great."
Before it became so easy for us to stay up at night, cross time zones in a single afternoon, and eat at any time of the day, humans were inclined to live in accordance with natural light/dark cycles. It’s probably no accident that along with these lifestyle changes we’ve entered an era marked by chronic illness - the so-called mismatch diseases. Metabolic disorders are often attributed to eating too much or consuming the wrong kinds of food. But fascinating research from just the last several years suggests we’re also eating at the wrong time of the day. With me today on the podcast is writer, speaker, and researcher Greg Potter, PhD. to talk about chrononutrition - how the foods we eat and the times we eat them impact our inner clocks and metabolic health. Greg discusses how changing when you eat can have profound effects, including reduced blood glucose, insulin, and appetite, and even better outcomes with COVID-19. He breaks down specific macronutrients to eat, when to eat them, and in what order, to optimise the body’s inner timekeeper. If you enjoy this podcast, be sure to read Greg’s articles on chrononutrition over at HumanOS: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. Here’s the outline of this interview with Greg Potter: [00:00:12] Metagenics Institute Podcast with Nathan Rose. [00:03:24] Early time-restricted eating (eTRE). Carlye Lauff is an independent contractor specializing in innovation strategy and design research. We’ll talk about her path into design and how she obtained her Ph.D. in Design Theory and Methodology, and then hear about her global work with organization innovation using human-centered design. Carlye talks about prototyping barriers, how to overcome these barriers, and her tool, Prototyping Canvas, with Dawan Stanford, your podcast host. Show Summary Carlye was exposed to the power of human-centered design thinking with her coursework during her undergrad at Penn State University. One project brought her to Kenya, where she was on a team initiating a telemed health initiative. Through this project, she saw the power of applying design thinking to a real-world problem. As a result, she pursued her Master’s and Ph.D. around design thinking — including founding the Design for America studio at Colorado University Boulder campus — with an emphasis on prototyping, and helping companies and organizations find ways to prototype more effectively. She has continued to work on design thinking-based projects around the world. She is currently consulting in the U.S. in the field of innovation strategy, partnering with organizations and training their teams in the use of design thinking and human-centered design. She also works with teams to co-create solutions to actual projects and challenges in their organizations, including leading a project with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help children enhance their social-emotional learning. Learn how Carlye teaches and trains professionals to make human-centric products, the challenges organizations and people have when prototyping, how to use analogies and case study examples, and how Carlye creates lasting organizational change long after her work with the company is done. Listen in to learn: How Carlye co-created an educational children’s toy at Robert Wood Johnson to help preschoolers identify their emotions Her experience with prototyping and how she overcame obstacles with prototyping The two strategies Carlye finds helpful when explaining prototyping Methods you can use for low-fidelity early prototyping How Carlye worked with the International Design Center in Singapore, focused on helping companies create lasting organizational change Two research-validated design tools Carlye collaborated on Carlye’s recipe for how to create great design Why she takes failure out of her language and replaces it with iterating and evolving Our Guest’s Bio Carlye is an innovation strategist, design researcher, and enthusiastic instructor who blends human-centered design practice with systems thinking approaches. She has helped more than 25 global organizations re-think their design processes and strategies, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to government agencies to universities. Carlye is an independent consultant that empowers people and organizations to innovate using human-centered design methods and strategies. During 2018-2019, Carlye served as a Design Innovation Fellow at the SUTD-MIT International Design Centre (IDC) in Singapore, where she trained companies in design innovation strategies, led an in-depth consulting project for the Land Transport Authority, and researched design methods like the Prototyping Canvas. David Samson spent 18 seasons in Major League Baseball and 16 as President of the Miami Marlins. In 2017, he was the second-longest tenured team President in MLB and was one of only seven current Presidents to have presided over a World Series champion. In 2017, Samson completed the negotiation to sell the Miami Marlins to a group led by Derek Jeter and Bruce Sherman for $1.2B. Samson acted as Chief Negotiator in the process. In 2019, Nothing Personal with David Samson made its debut. Nothing Personal, a simulcast, gives its audience a unique look inside the world of sports, business and entertainment. Our conversation focused on the future of sports after this pandemic. Even though I had many questions that were less timely, like his experience as a President of a Major League Baseball, this theme was implied in every moment of the episode. This conversation is a must listen for everyone interested in how will sports look like after this pandemic. And not only that, David also gives us countless insights in the importance of being a good leader and what it means to really lead. His ability to take one step behind and analyze the potential ripple effects of a decision made by him is something I look up to. Also, David's commitment to the truth is remarkable. He doesn't sell you soundbites to hook you but rather, he keeps you engaged by cutting through the noise, being truthful and offering an in-depth analysis of the sports industry.---Website: CBS Sports PodcastsPodcast: Nothing Personal with David SamsonTwitter: @DavidPSamson---HIGHLIGHTSIntro(6:02) Which sport will have the toughest time adapting to this “new normal”?(8:05) What if sports come back and athletes test positive for COVID-19?(10:00) As an executive, you can’t afford to be sloppy - WOW.(10:23) The possible consequences of bringing sports back in 2020, including lower quality and more injuries.(14:00) How do you know when to start the clock?(14:24) The situation with Football.(15:45) Major League Baseball’s plan to bring back baseball.(16:30) Sports can’t be used to heal right now--the doctors and the scientists need to be used to heal - WOW.(18:25) What’s the difference between an event being halted, postponed and canceled?(19:43) Wait to see - refund policies from each sport.(20:18) Who has got to be protected during this pandemic, the players or the staff? For everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about». Vær alltid snill. For alle du møter, kjempar ein kamp du ikkje veit noko om. Ekstra sårt blir det ofte no i førjulstida. Femte Mosebok 33, 25 Jesaja 41,10.
Ordet førjulstid gir gode assosiasjonar for mange.

The gang discusses two papers that look at how various animals associated with whales have reacted to environmental shifts over the last several hundred thousand years. The first paper looks at polar bears and reviews data on the potential utility of whale carcasses on polar bear survival during warmer periods in recent Earth history. The second paper investigates how changes in the shell chemistry of barnacles attached to whales may preserve important information on whale migratory patterns. Meanwhile, James has ideas about Final Fantasy and all Square Enix protagonists, Curt thinks James is the Kuja of the podcast, and Amanda finds her ideal Nobody name. Somehow we got on a real theme this episode. Up-Goer Five (Amanda Edition): Today our friends do not talk about very large big heavy things that had hair once. Instead our friends talk about small weird hard things that don't move that do not look like tiny things with many legs but are actually very close to tiny things with many legs. These things that do not look like tiny things with many legs but are actually very close to the tiny things with many legs are hard and live on the very large big heavy things that had hair once, but do not hurt them. They are friends, but the large big heavy things that had hair once don't actually care about the small weird hard things that don't move. But the small weird hard things that don't move can help us see if the big large heavy things that had hair once move around when it goes from warm to cold or not. It turns out that maybe even very old big large heavy things that had hair once might have moved around just like today's do. Our friends also talk about large white angry things with hair that want food that eat the large big heavy things that had hair once. These large white angry things with hair are in trouble because their home is going away. Their home has gone away in the past, and maybe they ate the big large heavy things that had hair once when they died and came on land. One big large heavy thing that had hair once can be food for lots and lots of large angry white things with hair. But people have killed a lot of the big large heavy things that had hair once, and that might be a problem. Maybe the big white angry things with hair won't be able to eat the large big heavy things that had hair once anymore, and they will all die. Elsk kvarandre, seier Jesus.
