On Prophecy Radio episode #134, Karen and Kristen return to The Red Pyramid with their discussion of chapters 23 and 24! They also talk about Rick Riordan's love of high-quality boxes, as well as some minor Percy Jackson and the Olympians news. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:07:24) Independent Bookstore Day is on April 26–go support your local shop if you can!! Did you catch Rick Riordan unboxing his Emmys? The Dad vibes are strong with this video! Jay Duplass will not return as Hades in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2–but all is not lost. We love how much his kids love Percy Jackson, which means the likelihood of him coming back for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 is pretty high. We can't remember if we discussed the Gray Sisters casting from D23 2024, but we're doing it now! Where do we know Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho from? The Red Pyramid discussion (00:19:45) Let's start with The Red Pyramid chapter 23. Sadie is human again! We find out how she did it. Nobody woke Carter for lunch, but that's the least of his worries right now. Bast thinks Set might not be the one at the top of the food chain here, and that's definitely cause for concern. It's time to head to Memphis–and this time they're not “borrowing” a car, though Bast still requires a convertible. There's a lot of atmospheric description to this book, and we're all for it. Baboons playing basketball is probably a good indication that a god is nearby. Carter is NOT great at basketball, but we find out why it's so important to him. We love how hard Sadie is working to be kind to him about this. Finally, we get to meet Toth, the god of wisdom, as well as all of his ibis receptionists. Is it weird that the Greeks likened him to Hermes? Ah, yes, the importance of astrology and leechcraft. The way Thoth's powers are portrayed was super interesting and makes you wonder how powerful he is. We get some important backstory about the relationship between Horus, Isis, Set, and Thoth. Thoth seems to be a bit of a contradiction–highly intelligent and yet not very observant. Knowing a creature's actual name has such power, and we love this concept. How can Sadie hold a goddess at bay if she was also having trouble with her sense of self enough to struggle coming out of her kite form? Did we all feel on a spiritual level how much Thoth didn't want to read his old work, or was that just us? Was this chapter too long and too full of information to really comprehend everything? Time for our favorite lines and favorite moments! Now it's time to head to Graceland in The Red Pyramid chapter 24. Was Elvis a magician? All signs point to yes. Seriously, though, music really is magical. It must be so weird to be at Graceland with no tourists. STOP DESTROYING NATIONAL MONUMENTS. Karen really wants to know what type of lizard Carter was turned into. Sadie is SO resourceful, and we loved seeing how she defeated the magicians. This time, we DO know what kind of reptile is on the page–and it's a big one! How did Sadie turn Carter back into a person? Was this just a test from Thoth? At least they fixed up Graceland before they left. Could the cat of Ra actually be Bast?? How does she feel about battling Apophis again? Favorite lines and favorite scenes! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 135, where we'll discuss The Red Pyramid chapters 25 and 26, as well as get you up to date on whatever Percy Jackson news might be out there. On Prophecy Radio episode #133, Karen and Kristen refresh themselves on where they left off last with The Red Pyramid! They also talk about that HUGE Percy Jackson and the Olympians news. The Target special edition of The Court of the Dead is available now for pre-order. The Red Pyramid refresher course (00:36:01) Sadie (12) and Carter Kane (14) are siblings, but had to grow up apart. Their father, Julius, is allowed to bring Carter to visit Sadie for two days once a year. When they visit this time, some serious craziness ensues. The British Museum gets rocked by Julius, stirring up all kinds of Egyptian god-related chaos. Uncle Amos gets the kids safe as best he can, but it doesn't last long! The Kane family traces back to two very powerful royal lines. Demon Days start soon, and that is not some sale at Spirit Halloween. Sadie's cat, Muffin, is keeping a secret. If at first the House of Life isn't safe, why not try a different location. Iskandar and Desjardins are not created equal. Sadie and Carter learn a lot about their abilities while in the first Nome, even if they do get run out of there by a crazy leader who wants to kill them. Sadie has an audience with Nut, the sky goddess, who sends her to Tennessee. The Set animal is a scary dude, but Carter finds a loophole that should hold him. Carter sees a vision of what Set may be up to, but it turns out Set was watching right back. Feedback (00:55:44) A nice long email from Stephanie has us downright delighted by her comments and grateful for her fact-checking. On Prophecy Radio episode #132, Karen and Kristen discuss the final two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods! They also talk about the brand new Nico di Angelo novel, The Court of the Dead. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:47) Karen's officiating a wedding, which means you get this episode early! Leah won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Performance by a Youth (for Percy Jackson)! A Touch of Blood by Sajni Patel is out now. The Court of the Dead: A Nico di Angelo Adventure releases in the US and the UK on September 25, 2023. We go through the synopsis and it sounds fantastic. Khadijah Khatib once again did the cover, and we're obsessed with it! We look at the cover pretty closely and see if we can find any clues about the story. The Cosmopolitan interview with Rick and Mark about the new book is a lot of fun. We love that this was Mark's idea and that they keep describing the book as “bonkers.” Will we see Bob and Small Bob again? Could there be a third Nico di Angelo book?? There IS a new character we can expect in Book 2. We also love the three words each of them use to describe this book. Check out Rick's blog for a few more details. We go through all the special editions that Read Riordan announced on their Instagram. Are you planning on getting any of the special editions? Would you spring for more than one? Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:33:03) We kick off our discussion with Chalice of the Gods chapter 34. “Delete, Delete” is the best running joke. Did you remember when the spaghetti situation took place? Is Paul basically Rick? The art of the one-star review is something to be revered. Is Sally's one-star review really a review that Rick got? We're so interested in Sally's book! What genre is it?? Callie once again shows up to share her opinions. The scene where Percy has to write his letter is SO FANTASTIC. We go looking for the recommendation letter we thought we remembered being in one of the special editions and get a surprise. As always, we get into our favorite lines and favorite scenes. Lastly, we jump into chapter 35, “Pretty Much the Best Good-Night Kiss Ever.” Percy gets Annabeth's special smile! Annabeth is very chill about giving out her autograph. It's so interesting that we learned something new about the cap. Annabeth is speechless over the fact that Athena has maybe, sort of, kind of accepted Percy as her boyfriend? We love visions of Percabeth's future! Easy-queasy has a lot of potential. The “I love you” felt significant, but it's not the first time they said it, right? The goodnight kiss through the Iris Message was SO CUTE. Favorite lines and favorite scenes! Feedback (00:00:00) There is no feedback this week! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 133, where we'll review what we've already discussed in The Red Pyramid before we pick it back up again. Prophecy Radio episode #131 brings Karen and Kristen to discussing the penultimate two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. They also highlight some upcoming YA/Middle Grade books from RRP authors and talk some exciting other news, too. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:18:28) Check out this article about where Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 ranked on Disney+ last year! Karen compiled a list of current releases and upcoming releases from all of our favorite RRP authors. You can see that list here on Insta! While you're on the Insta, make sure to check out all the Dreamslinger swag that Karen received after signing up on Graci Kim's website a couple weeks ago! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:24:55) Time to jump into chapter 32! Which is more upsetting: The gods treating their kids like pets or NOT BRINGING THEM LEFTOVERS?! Easy exit from Olympus Percy specifically mentions not telling anyone at camp about this, which explains why we never heard anything about this adventure before. Grover was the second-most stressed out he's ever been. Grover offers to run Annabeth's hat back to her so Percy can get to school ASAP. Godly parents can call you in late, too. We all love Paul Blofis. Poseidon keeps an eye on Percy… for better or for worse. It's time to talk about our favorite lines and favorite moments from this chapter! And now its chapter 33 time! Eudora stops Percy on his way to class. She is not a Poseidon fan, but Percy talks her off the ledge. Do-it-yourself recommendation letters (AKA blank godly paper) are all the rage. She expects some credit for her work in Percy's letter when he writes it. Blue jolly ranchers are the best, clearly. Percy hasn't done the reading, but he's still happy to be in class. It's nice to have a moment to appreciate the mundane. Time for our favorite lines and favorite moments from this chapter. Feedback (00:54:34) Email from Caoimhe, who shared some pics of her ADORABLE pup with us! Prophecy Radio episode #130 sees Karen and Kristen discussing the next two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. They also discuss Walker Scobell's comments about the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:09:14) We kick off the episode talking about our anticipation (or lack thereof) for the Super Bowl, plus our excitement for Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros. Have you ever listened to a graphic audio before? Do you have a spreadsheet for all the books you're reading this year? Happy belated birthday to Walker Scobell! Filming for season 2 has officially wrapped, and we speculate about the possible release date. Walker won the Rising Star Award at the 2025 SCAD TVfest! Speaking with TV Insider, Walker says the beginning of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 will start in a slightly different place from the book—but we're not worried. We're so ready for more action in season 2, and we're excited to see what more they add to the show that isn't in the books. Sometimes we forget how long it takes for Annabeth and Percy to actually get together. They have a looooong road ahead of them. Tyson is SO important to this series, and it sounds like Daniel Diemer has impressed Diehard Percy Jackson Fan Walker Scobell. We're also excited there will be more practical sets, and we're curious how the Volume will come into play this season. Could we see Director Walker Scobell some day!? Rick answered some questions on Goodreads recently, and he's said Clarisse will have a sizeable role in season 2 and that Dior is bringing her A game! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:22:05) Okay, let's jump into Chalice of the Gods chapter 30. Where did we last leave Percy and where is he headed now? Percy takes in the sights as he heads toward the kitchen. Did we see the street-cleaning rhinoceros in the TV show? We're obsessed with the fact that satyrs give botanical directions. Percy is smart to question why the gods have kitchens full of staff, and the reason makes SO MUCH SENSE. Did you catch the Ghostbusters reference!? It must be so uncomfortable to sweat Greek Fire. There was A LOT of detailed description in this chapter. How many of you knew what a conversation pit was? We play a pretty easy game of Two Truths and a Lie. It's time to talk about our favorite lines and favorite moments from this chapter! Next up, Chalice of the Gods chapter 31. It might be cliché, but hiding under the pastry cart as his new BFF Barbara wheels him into the banquet hall works wonders. And in exchange, all Percy has to do is provide Barbara with an Annabeth Chase meet-and-greet opportunity. Do nymphs and dryads see demigods as celebrities? What's scarier—facing down a lion or Percy's future mother-in-law? Really, Athena spotting him is best-case scenario because any of the others might've caused trouble for Percy. We appreciate that Rick doesn't shy away from how gross Zeus actually is. Imagine what TOO MUCH praise would mean to Ganymede? Did you figure out what a demi-bag was? Did we want more of a scene in the banquet? Would it have worked out for Percy if there was more of a confrontation? Sometimes Percy is a little lucky! Time for our favorite lines and favorite moments from this chapter. Feedback (00:57:06) Solomon wonders if Annabeth could give Percy his third quest. It's an interesting question, and we have a theory of our own! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 131, where we'll discuss the latest Percy Jackson news, along with Chalice of the Gods chapters 32 and 33. Prophecy Radio episode #129 brings Karen and Kristen back together again to discuss the next two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. They also dip into a quick look at the brand new Percy Jackson cookbook, full of some truly unique recipes. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:59) Check out this fun Reel for a better glimpse at the PJO premiere last year Check out Graci Kim's website to sign up for the Dreamslinger league. Karen got a copy of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Official Cookbook as a late Christmas present. It's a perfect gift for Percy Jackson fans, especially if they like to throw parties for premiere weeks or in celebration of new books. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:21:21) Let's start off our Chalice of the Gods discussion with chapter 28, "It Starts Raining Toys" Gary is more than a little shell-shocked at Percy's choices. Percy takes a moment to reflect on his mom's parents, and what it would be like if they had survived. Gary wants to know why Percy offered hugs instead of muscle. We are grateful that Gary has agreed that Percy has more life to live. Gary has one more thing to ask Percy before he excuses himself in a poof! Not everyone is like the gods, and Percy gives Gary hope. Annabeth and Grover congratulate Percy on his brilliant gamble. A hula hoop falls from the sky, which means Ganymede has a message for our trio. Zeus has invited his mom over, which means, the chalice needs to find its way home... now. Our favorite lines and moments We also get to discuss Chalice of the Gods chapter 29, "I Teeter on the Precipice of Mount Brunch" Percy hates brunch. Like HATES it. What the heck do gods eat for brunch, anyway? No, Percy cannot FEDEx the chalice back to Ganymede. Major bummer. Annabeth heads to school, while Percy and Grover head to the Empire State Building. Grover knows someone who can get them into the brunch, as long as they find the side door to the Olympus kitchens. Percy tries on Annabeth's Yankees cap of invisibility. It makes him feel fuzzy and weird. We brainstorm better names for a satyr dating app. Satyr-er leave a bit to be desired. Grover shakes his woolmaker to distract the Empire State security guards so Percy can sneak onto the elevator. Percy worries the chalice may have a "one ring" thing going on. Our favorite lines and moments Feedback (00:53:35) Maria Steinmetz reached out on Instagram to let us know she signed up for a class with Roshani Chokshi. We hope its as amazing as we imagine! Prophecy Radio episode #128 brings Karen and Kristen back together again to discuss the next two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. They also discuss a couple small snippets of news before diving into a fun fatal flaw quiz. Finally, they discuss chapters 26 and 27 of Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:08:50) Make sure you're keeping up with the @PercySeries Instagram for some fun posts! Have you gotten Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Official Cookbook yet? Have you taken the Camp Half-Pod fatal flaw quiz yet? We had a great time taking it, but maybe not such a great time being read for filth by our results. Since we were split on some of our answers, we decided to take it a second time to see if our results changed! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:32:26) Let's start off our Chalice of the Gods discussion with chapter 26, “I Negotiate the Terms of My Disintegration.” It's time to wrestle a god! If we had a nickel every time we heard that one… Really, Percy has no good choice here. On the plus side, we love how introspective Percy is in this book. (Thanks, Mark!) We totally understand why the gods are superfans of Geras. There are so many amazing quotes in this chapter. Percy has been through this a time or two, so he knows to clarify the terms of the deal. He also has conditions! Very important conditions. Annabeth is the brains of this operation. And Grover is the doughnut man. “I love you…but you're not Hercules.” Why is it SO FUNNY that Percy hates Hercules so much? It's really interesting that Percy considers giving up on his quest but just can't do it. And therein lies his fatal flaw. Thank goodness for plot armor! Grover's offer of doughnuts almostttt changes Geras' mind. Geras is pretty quick for an old guy! As always, we discuss our favorite lines and favorite moments. Now it's time to get into chapter 27, “My Dying Words Are Super Embarrassing.” The fight has begun! Percy barely got away from Geras' first move. We love the comments from the peanut gallery. Percy's got some great initial ideas for how to defeat old age. Eat your fiber! Why didn't Percy's water powers work on Geras? Once again, we see what kind of connection Percy and Annabeth have—and we are LIVING for it! Geras really isn't someone you want to mess with. The dude is STRONG. Why does Rick have to bring up Jason so casually!? There's a reason we still read Rick Riordan books—not just for the humor but also because of the deeper meanings. We lament about our age a little bit, but in reality, we still feel in development and not like a real person—and that's okay! Let's not forget about our favorite lines and favorite moments. Feedback (01:10:16) Solomon writes in with a suggestion for a new board game we might enjoy. Prophecy Radio episode #127 finds Karen and Kristen back to discuss the next two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. We catch up on the board games we've played and loved recently (and tell a traumatic board game memory) before discussing the latest news from Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Finally, we discuss chapters 24 and 25 of Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:09:37) We decide not to worry about the D23 trailer since it has so little new footage for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. We are ready and waiting for a real Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 trailer, though. We do have some minor casting announcements to talk about. You can take a look at all the info on the minor casting right here. Timothy Simons as Tantalus, who keeps an eye on activities in Chiron's absence. Kevin Chacon has been recast as Chris Rodriguez We take issue with the article calling him a villain, though. Rosemarie DeWitt will be our C.C. (AKA Circe) Who is not to be confused with Calypso or any other water-related C-named goddesses Aleks Paunovic will be our Polyphemus, although we're not sure to what degree. If they had only cast him for his voice, they would have mentioned that in the announcement, right? Last, but certainly not least, we have our new non-book character played by Beatrice Kitsos … or is she?! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:29:00) Chapter 24 starts with Percy waking up from a good old regular dream where all the gods were pregnant. And of course it was Annabeth sneaking in his window that woke him. She has a lot to tell him about what she learned about concetrated nectar from Juniper. Is this book influencing the show? Or is the show influencing this book? Percy gave good advice to Grover. Sally would not have a problem with Annabeth in Percy's room. She'd probably just make tea. Trusting moms are some of the best parts of supernatural-being-living-in-a-human-world stories. Annabeth Chase: Scheduler Extraordinaire! We share our favorite lines and moments. Time for chapter 25! And its a big one. Doughnuts to start the day, then time to plug noses and get to work. The menthol to koala/eucalyptus thing took a minute to process. Our trio gets split up by the drops of nectar. Of course Percy is in trouble the minute he's off on his own. Time to meet Gary! He has a very specific look, and its not a flattering one. The god of old age stole the chalice that stops people from getting old. It goes against the natural order of things. Since Percy is the only human to turn down immortality, Geras wanted to give him a chance to understand why this god would steal from Ganymede. Karen reminds us of that reference last week that makes a lot more sense now that we're in the know. Gary is not happy with Percy's reaction and is totally ready to turn him to gravedust. Percy wants to see if there's a deal to be struck. The challenge Geras throws down is not exactly what you would expect… Time to close things out with more favorite lines and favorite moments! Feedback No feedback this week, but we look forward to hearing all your board game recs for next week's episode! Prophecy Radio episode #126 finds Karen and Kristen back for a third week in a row (even though it's a little behind schedule). We share what we've been watching lately before discussing the latest news from Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Finally, we discuss chapters 22 and 23 of Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:51) The 3rd Annual Children's & Family Emmy Nominees are out, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians scored a bunch of them! Isn't it exciting that Leah Jeffries has been nominated for an Emmy!? What exactly is a show open? They've got a great chance of getting an award for set dressing. It's great to see a nomination for stunt coordination! Out of all the nominees, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is definitely one of the biggest and most popular shows. Here's the Variety article Kristen was referencing. In case you missed it like we did, we discuss the November blog update on Rick's website. Wrath of the Triple Goddess by Rick Riordan, Pahua and the Dragon's Secret by Lori M. Lee, and The Dark Becomes Her by Judy I. Lin are all available now. A Touch of Blood, the Drop of Venom companion novel, by Sajni Patel is out on February 25 We're also getting a new Nico and Will novel! What could Book 2 possibly be about?? We have a few ideas. There will be another Senior Year Adventure Book, but it won't be out in 2025. We try to figure out a timeline for when his next books will be coming out. We're so excited he said Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 is “better, bigger, funnier, faster and wilder” than the first season. What other adaptations is Rick working on at the moment? Walker has gotten SO BIG in the last year or so. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:31:05) Let's kick off our Chalice of the Gods discussion with chapter 22 today. We love a woman who hyphenates her last name. Annabeth taking up a culinary class and building famous landmarks out of cake makes SO MUCH SENSE. Karen has a theory as to why Annabeth chose to make green and purple cupcakes. Percy is a little shocked, but he takes Sally's surprise news very well and is super happy for his mom. We discuss whether Sally is relieved that her second child is not a demi-god. It's so cute that Percy wants to stick around to see his sibling grow up. We make sure to do our favorite lines and favorite moments. Next up is Chalice of the Gods chapter 23! Ho-Ho-Kus is a real place in New Jersey with a trade school. Is Rick making a statement on high school guidance counselors and how useless they are!? Turns out everyone wants updates from Percy today. We love all the timely references in this book and a lot of Rick's other works. Percy visits the library even though he really doesn't want to. Favorite lines and moments, as always! The reason Percy wants to help Ganymede is really sweet, actually. Feedback (00:58:40) Wings of Legends left us some comments on Spotify. Kyle left us an email back in March that we're just getting to, but it was WELL worth the wait because he had an awesome idea for a discussion. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 127, where we'll discuss the latest Percy Jackson news, along with Chalice of the Gods chapters 24 & 25. Prophecy Radio episode #125 sees Karen and Kristen back on our usual path, including a few detours while we talk about our excitement over the Wicked movie in theaters as well as the Greek-themed updates to Disney Dreamlight Valley courtesy of the expansion pass. We do also talk about chapter 21 of Chalice of the Gods, as well as continuing to talk about our future and plans for the podcast. As of right now, new episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week, and we'll still keep our discussions PG-13. We are so excited to talk about these casting choices! (00:09:50) We are so proud of ourselves for getting our act together and kicking off our new schedule right away! Daniel Diemer will be bringing Tyson to the screen! Andra Day is absolute perfect embodiment of Athena (we're both in awe). Tamara Smart absolutely looks the part of Thalia Grace, and we can't wait to see how she chooses to play Thalia. Lance Reddick's replacement for Zeus is… We will definitely get at least one episode of season 2 in 2025! Chalice of the Gods refresher (00:26:36) Percy needs to complete 3 quests to get letters so he can join Annabeth at New Rome University. Ganymede, Zeus' cupbearer, to finds the chalice of the gods. He suspects Hebe and Iris. They find a chalice-less Hebe (and her flock of chickens) at her arcade, and after a little creative trickery by Annabeth, our trio learns where they might find Iris. Meet Blanche, daughter of Iris, who loves all things monochrome and death. She promises to introduce them to her mother if Grover poses for some photos. Iris is desperate for her child's approval, so she listens to our favorite trio, and tells them she has a hunch. She won't share that hunch, however, unless our trio does a little quest for her first. While questing, Annabeth befriends a river, Percy almost drowns, Grover gets chased by snakes. Percy gives us his (arguably) most romantic moment yet, and saves himself from mortal peril. Once they return Iris' staff to her, clean as a whistle, she lets them know the chalice is in Greenwich in the possession of someone named Gary, and hands them a vial of pure nectar to help in locating the famous drinking vessel. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:34:26) Grover arrives to Percy's swim meet in some very specific regalia. Percy is forced to look at Blanche's dreary photos of Grover appearing dead amongst very dead-looking nature. Grover had planned to give one of these photos to Juniper for her Bloom Day present, but she didn't react well to the repeated mentioning of Blanche. Percy advises that Grover admit his stupidity in this moment, and apologize to Juniper. Percy notes that, next to the Greek gods, he's possibly the worst person to give relationship advice. Grover asked the cloud nymphs about Greenwich village, scoping out the scene before they go adventuring there, and they admit to some weird energy around Washington Square Park. While getting Juniper's Bloom Day present right is important, Grover is more concerned with how things are going to work once Percy and Annabeth run off to New Rome University. Percy reassures our favorite satyr that they need him as much as he needs them. They couldn't survive without Grover in their lives. Favorite lines and favorite moments. Feedback! Thank you so much to everyone for all the kinds words on our return. It really means the world to us. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 126, where we'll discuss the big news we missed while we were away, along with Chalice of the Gods chapters 22 & 23. Prophecy Radio episode #124 sees Karen and Kristen returning after an accidental seven-month hiatus. That wasn't supposed happen, but it did, so we discuss how and why and what's been going on with us. (Shout-out to all the people who checked in on us—thank you!). We also talk about our future plans for the podcast and what you can expect from us going forward. As of right now, new episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week, and we'll still keep our discussions PG-13. Where the hell have you been, loca? (00:02:16) Yeah, that wasn't supposed to happen, and we apologize to everyone we ghosted. Kristen has a MAJOR life update to share with you all. Karen's been struggling with her mental health this year (but she's actively working on it!). Burnout is REAL. It's important to take care of yourself. We're kind of done with the hustle, to be honest. This all sounds bad, but it's actually not. We're choosing a healthier alternative for ourselves, and we hope you'll come along for the ride. Road Map of the Future (00:13:14) First and foremost, we want this podcast to be FUN and to be a safe space for people in these troubling times. We also really want to finish what we started with the books we were discussing. We'll be putting out a new episode every two weeks, and they'll be about an hour long. We'll still discuss the news, but it'll only be from official sources. If you're looking for more up-to-date information, there are a lot of other incredible podcasts out there! We'll always be here for the Elder Percy Jackson fans. Right now, we're focusing on Instagram for our socials (and our emails will always be open). We plan on finishing both Chalice of the Gods and The Red Pyramid before reassessing our next moves. We still want to cover Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 when it comes out. Did you miss us? Are we slaying? Do we still have the rizz? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 125, where we'll discuss the big news we missed while we were away, along with Chalice of the Gods chapter 21. Prophecy Radio episode #123 has us excited to chat with Roseanne A. Brown about all things Percy Jackson and the Olympians, including season 1 and what lies ahead in season 2. Amongst a few other things, too (*cough* SERWA *cough*). We also use our news and feedback sections this week to highlight the upcoming Rick Riordan Presents books and to thank you all for your generous support. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:02:30) Here are your upcoming Rick Riordan Presents books (and their release dates as best we know): It Waits in the Forest by Sarah Dass (May 14) The Dark Becomes her by Judy I. Lin (October 1) *Moko Magic: Carnival Chaos by Tracey Baptiste (Aug 6) (Freedom Fire–Kwame MBalia's imprint) Pahua and the Dragon's Secret by Lori M. Lee (Sept 10) Serwa Boateng's Guide to Saving the World by Roseanne A. Brown (Nov 5) A Conversation with Roseanne A. Brown(00:07:17) Welcome Rosanne! We are so excited to geek out over Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 with you. Roseanne is very happy about how PJO season 1 turned out. And she acknowledges how hard adventures shows can be to get right. We talk about all our favorite moments and characters. Our most unexpected moments means we are once again gushing over Grover Underwood. (I have a feeling this is gonna keep happening, folks.) It's important to acknowledge that nothing is perfect, so we also touch on items we would change a little bit, if we had such power. TYSON! TYSON! TYSON! We are all super excited to see Percy's brother make his appearance, especially since his role is so pivotal to the story. There are also tons of moments we're looking forward to seeing, from tentpole to tender. We want to see Percy working on his fighting, both swordsmanship and harnessing the power of the ocean. If Percy Jackson and the Olympians inspires some competition, we hope it comes in the form of diverse mythologies. (And I mean, there's a whole imprint's worth just waiting for their chance in the sun.) Serwa may (or may not) be coming out on November 5th, 2024, but stick here for all the latest updates, because that is one story we are DYING to get our hands on We lose our cool a little, telling Rosie about how much we love the Serwa Boateng series. Time to beg a little for a teaser detail or two for Serwa Boateng's Guide to Saving the World, and Rosie kindly DELIVERS. Writing a book 3 is tough work. There aren't any projects on the horizon that Rosie can tell us about right now, but she does regale us with a list of all kinds of books she's been reading lately. (Some are adult titles, so consider yourselves warned!) Feedback (00:47:01) A HUGE thank you to everyone who has ever left us a review or a rating on their chosen podcast-listening-platform. We appreciate you all so much, and we just wanted to take a quick moment this week to make sure you know we do see them (even if we forget to check on those sometimes). Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 124, an as yet undetermined topic because we cannot make up our minds. Make sure you keep an eye on our social media as we will be letting you know about our next discussion topic there! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought, Kristen Kranz, and Roseanne A. Brown. Prophecy Radio episode #122 sits down with a surprise guest to talk about A Drop of Venom by Sajni Patel. We also get a newbie's reaction to Percy Jackson season 1, including what questions they still had after the final credits rolled. There's also some important Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan news to discuss, including our dreams coming true with the announcement of a Funko line, as well as some listener feedback from the past couple weeks. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:03:09) Give a big, warm welcome to our friend Danielle, who we're so excited to have on the show for the first time! Did you see that we're getting Percy Jackson Funkos!? Perhaps even more surprising—we're getting a Percy Jackson cookbook, too! Oh, hey, Luke Arnold from Black Sails would make for an excellent addition to Percy Jackson and the Olympians. We pick Danielle's brain about Percy Jackson season 1 considering she's never read the books! What improvements would she like to see in season 2? A Drop of Venom by Sajni Patel (00:20:15) If you're not mentally prepared for this discussion, please take care of yourself and either skip it or come back later! How familiar were we with Medusa's story and/or Indian mythology? What were our overall thoughts on A Drop of Venom? Let's talk about Manisha and what a nagin is. And we can't forget about Noni! Then there's Pratyush, who's a slayer because, well, his father was a slayer. We liked that Sajni didn't ignore the struggles men also have thanks to societal norms and pressures. But did anyone else think he was a little sus in the beginning? We talk explicitly about Manisha's rape and how it was depicted on the page. There are no words for how angry Sita's betrayal made us. The victim blaming in this book is, unfortunately, a reflection of real life. It's important not to use passive language when talking about violence against marginalized groups. Was the General just Hera in disguise!? He really should've made sure Manisha was dead. This was not the only sexual assault in the book. It's important for men to stand up against other men when they are participating in rape culture. We loved Dev, but he was pretty intense!? Girls have to stick together! Menstruation is totally normal and we should talk about it more. Did you figure out who the three elders represented? We LOVED that this book talked about the subjectivity of monstrosity, just like Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1. Is Pratyush as much of a “monster” as Manisha? Embrace your darkness! The spoiler section begins at 1:20:12. Did the general suffer enough? How did we feel about the “love story” between Manisha and Pratyush? Thank GOODNESS Noni is still alive. We have a couple guesses as to what the next book will be about, and even what the title might be! Feedback (00:52:50) Steph agrees that Aryan Simhadri IS Grover Underwood. Reilly also agrees that the video we posted in our IG stories needed to have a wedding dress for Grover. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 123, in which we'll have a chat with Roseanne A. Brown about Percy Jackson and the Olympians, as well as her upcoming book, Serwa Boateng's Guide to Saving the World! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #121 is our chance to give you all our highlights from Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1. We hit on our favorite moments, favorite characters, and talk a bit about what we would change if we had the chance. We also talk about the major Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan news, including Leah Sava Jeffries' big win at the NAACP Image awards, as well as read some listener feedback. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:02:34) Leah won the NAACP Image award! She is so deserving, it's not even funny. Hopefully this is just the first of many… we're looking at you, Emmy Awards. There's a new boxset with the first book in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Kane Chronicles, The Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, and The Trials of Apollo. It's the perfect gift for old Rick Riordan fans to give to new readers in their lives. Stacey Lee (beloved author of Winston Chu vs. The Whimsies) has a new book coming out April 23 called Kill Her Twice. It's a murder mystery set in 1932 Los Angeles Chinatown. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 favorites wrap up (00:15:13) Overall feelings for season 1? (Spoiler Alert: We liked it.) We have similar thoughts on our favorite episode. Kristen got into the doc first and stole all the best answers. We're big fans of impertinence. We're sensing a theme: We're big fans of the show's portrayal of Grover. There are some strong feelings about our favorite gods this season. What surprised us the most? Let's face it, we all wanted season 1 to be a million episodes, but eight still felt a little short to us. If we were in charge, what would we have changed about Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1? Feedback (00:52:50) You guys had some really wonderful reactions to our adjustments to the podcast structure. Thanks for hanging with us as we find a new normal. Ensign Davies reminds us that an animated Kane Chronicles adaptation would not be the death of crossover potential. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 122, in which we'll be talking all things A Drop of Venom by Sajni Patel, and maybe have a guest host stop by for the discussion! Prophecy Radio episode #120 explains where we've been over the last couple weeks before discussing the Percy Jackson and the Olympians documentary “A Hero's Journey.” We've got plans to restructure the podcast a little bit, but don't worry! We're not going anywhere, and we have some awesome episodes planned. We tackle the biggest Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan news, including the season 2 renewal and the Kane Chronicles cancellation, as well as read some listener feedback. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:02:03) Where the heck have we been over the last couple weeks? Life is tough, but we're getting through it. We're restructuring the podcast a little bit, and we think it'll be better than ever! We discuss some of our plans for upcoming episodes. Let's get into the news, shall we? Yes, Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been renewed for season 2. We touch on some of the highlights about season 2 that we know so far. Unfortunately, the Kane Chronicles movie will not be going forward at Netflix. Did you know there's Percy Jackson merch at Barnes & Noble? Percy Jackson and the Olympians documentary “A Hero's Journey” (00:30:53) Did the Percy Jackson documentary live up to our expectations? It was so awesome seeing the fans at NYCC. We even saw a familiar face! (Or, rather, a familiar hat!) We're kind of obsessed with Andrew the acting coach. Along with the Volume—but that shouldn't come as a surprise. Walker is gonna be a huge action star some day. Aryan's energy is the best—he's so humble and genuine! It was really cool seeing everyone's parents. Virginia Kull definitely made us cry! What would we want to see in a season 2 documentary? Feedback (00:59:18) You told us which moments from Sea of Monsters you're most looking forward to seeing on screen. We also took a poll to see how you'd like Kane Chronicles to be adapted. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 121, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 as a whole! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #119 discusses Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 8, “The Prophecy Comes True.” What did we think of the Percy Jackson season 1 finale? Did Zeus live up to his reputation? Is it possible the show actually made us like Poseidon?? We also tackle the latest Percy Jackson news, including the cover for The Dark Becomes Her by Judy I. Lin, and read some listener feedback. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:03:39) We JUST recorded our last episode, but we've got a couple pieces of news we wanted you to check out. First and foremost, be sure to look at the beautiful and terrifying cover for The Dark Becomes Her by Judy I. Lin. The Percy Jackson team also has a cross-country quest going on. Be sure to keep an eye on their Instagram for more details. Apparently the guy who played Crusty was also in the Lightning Thief movie! Did you see the footage of the trio at Disney World? Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 8, “The Prophecy Comes True” (02:05:00) We now live in a post-Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 world. They really just punched us in the gut with that opening line, didn't they? When did that training scene take place? This was a great segue back into the Ares fight. Someone really needs to get Annabeth up to speed. Percy and Ares certainly know how to get under each other's skin. Does it make sense that Percy was holding his own against the god of war? Ares found out exactly what Perseus Jackson is capable of!! Adam Copeland is literally perfect in this role. How come they heard Sally's voice as soon as Annabeth picked up the helmet? Did Percy offer the helm in good faith in the hopes that it would score him some bonus points with Hades? Alecto has a lot of reverence for Hades and his artifacts. It's probably not the smartest idea for Percy to walk into Olympus, but he's done running from monsters. THE LOOK ON PERCY'S FACE AS ANNABETH GIVES HIM HER NECKLACE. Luke is so excited Percy is picking up what he's putting down. Did Luke betray Annabeth by telling Percy she's afraid of spiders? Why didn't we get to see what book the security guard was reading!? Did you catch all the different architecture that makes up Olympus? Why did Percy have to climb that hill?? The silence as Percy handed over the bolt was SO LOUD. We're obsessed with Lance's portrayal of Zeus and the musicality of his delivery. It maybe wasn't the smartest thing in the world to stand up to Zeus, but the guy really needed to hear what Percy had to say. Poseidon surrenders in order to save his son!! And he gets a little manipulative by bringing up Thalia's bravery and how it inspired Percy to do the right thing with the bolt. We loved hearing the Ancient Greek. Oh, Zeus, you're gonna be seeing A LOT of Percy going forward. The meeting between Percy and Poseidon very nearly broke us. The sea does not like to be restrained. Poseidon's face when Percy asks if he dreams about Sally–OMG. That was an unceremonious exit if we ever saw one. Was Percy supposed to end up in the ocean? He's a whole different person now, and Camp must feel like a totally different place. Were those the Stohl Brothers!? Annabeth has changed a lot too!! When did Annabeth figure out that Luke was the one who betrayed them? It was very helpful when Percy went back through the prophecy line by line. Luke really didn't want Grover to get hurt. It's SO easy to empathize with Luke's feelings, even if we don't agree with his actions. Did you catch the glint in his eye?? Anyone else forget that Backbiter could open portals?? Luke does NOT want to hear Percy's excuses for the gods. What did that letter H represent? Percy's got some smooth moves! Poor, poor Annabeth. At least Luke knows not to take her on, too. Kronos might be very, very persuasive, but Percy is very, very stubborn. We're glad we got to see Mr. D again. Annabeth looks so pretty in her final scene! Of course Grover's searcher's license is an actual flower. Did anyone figure out Percy's reunion with his mom was actually a dream? This is our best look yet at Kronos. Whatever you do, don't call Kronos “Grandpa.” We've said this before and we'll say it again—Sally Jackson is the best mom ever. Blue pancakes!! Did you catch the after credits scene? Did Hermes do that on purpose, knowing what would happen? Feedback (02:03:31) Judith wants to know what we think will happen to Cerberus since he swallowed one of those pearls. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 120, in which we'll discuss the Percy Jackson and the Olympians behind-the-scenes documentary! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #118 discusses Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 7, “We Learn the Truth, Sort Of.” How was Jay Duplass as Hades, and what did the Underworld look like? Was Cerberus as cute as we were promised? And can Percy please stop being so self-sacrificing for, like, two seconds!? We also tackle the latest Percy Jackson news and read a few pieces of listener feedback. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:04:55) We wish Daniel José Older a belated happy birthday! A Drop of Venom by Sajni Patel is out now, and we WILL be discussing it next month. Did you see the Wrath of the Triple Goddess covers posted on Rick's blog? The synopsis sounds amazing, and we can't wait to read this one! The Hollywood Reporter gives us some important stats regarding Percy Jackson and the Olympian‘s current streaming ratings. Make sure you watch the BTS video for episode 5 and check out the poster for episode 6.. Did you know that Augustus from Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 6 was named after the Black Sails character? In case you missed the big news, there WAS a Bianca and Nico di Angelo reference in the last episode. Rick also gives us some additional information about this scene on Goodreads. He also talks about what he wants to do for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 7, “We Learn the Truth, Sort Of” (00:24:17) What did we think about this episode overall? Spoiler alert: We're still trying to figure out how we feel about the Crusty's scene. Are we okay with the kids knowing a lot more than they did in the book? What was the secret code? Crusty's little monologue hints at what else is to come in this episode. Are we sad he didn't get his head chopped off? There have been some top-tier quotes this season, and we may need to rank them at some point. That stress ball does a lot of heavy lifting this episode. Wait, is Annabeth more concerned about Percy's mom than the quest!? Sally gets mad in the first scene of the flashback, and we kind of love it. So, like, the first movie Percy is showing Annabeth is The Wizard of Oz, right? Percy is such a city kid, and we love it. Is Charon supposed to look like the figure in the vision? Was that Janus on his staff? Um, did Cerberus just eat Grover!? Annabeth is such a badass, but of course we already knew that. Did anyone else think she was gonna throw up once they pulled her up the edge of the cliff? We get SUPER MAD about how the principal of Percy's new school treats him. Homeschooling is not an option for everyone!! Percy refuses to blame Grover for losing one of the pearls. We love him so much, but could he be a little less self-sacrificing!? The Fields of Asphodel are very creepy. What does Annabeth regret!? Also, can we talk for a minute about the part where she says she trusts Percy's dad!? You know a place has bad vibes when the giant three-headed dog won't follow you out there. Who else thought Percy might chop off Grover's legs? Just Kristen?? Okay. If we don't admit that's the master bolt then it can't be true!! Everyone loves Sally! Although Young Percy says some very mean things to her. Okay, Hades' Palace is huuuuge. We're still trying to figure out how we feel about Jay Duplass as Hades. “I seldom cahoot.” Do we believe Percy figured out it was Kronos? Percy decides to do the right thing, even though it's difficult. How often does Sally get to talk to Poseidon? Does Zeus know who Percy is? In an alternate timeline, Percy and Annabeth could've been best friends at age seven. There are so many great quotes in this scene, and we love Toby Stephens as Poseidon! Why doesn't Grover get a helping hand!? Ares is going down, one way or another! Feedback (02:03:31) Liz O is very happy we didn't see the skin seat on Ares' motorcycle. Steph says there were no winter solstice presentations in the book. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 119, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 8! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. James Bobin has been nominated for a Directors Guild of America award for his work on Percy Jackson and the Olympians! There will be a Camp Half-Blood experience in São Paulo, Brazil. Kristen JUST MISSED the Percy Jackson and the Olympians exhibit now in Hollywood Studios. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 6, “We Take a Zebra to Vegas” (00:15:21) What did we think of this episode overall? Let's kick off our discussion by breaking down Percy's latest nightmare. The Iris Message scene was amazing for SO many different reasons. Why was Luke in Chiron's office??? You should've heard our shriek when Luke called Percabeth an old married couple. Percy needs to be a little more aware of how sensitive some demigods are about their parents. Who has two thumbs and can release a horde of animals into downtown Las Vegas? Does Grover not care about humans? Did you catch that cute turtle on the median? The Lotus Hotel and Casino was beautiful, inside and out. “Levitating” by Dua Lipa was an inspired choice. We love how the kids immediately remembered about the Lotus Eaters. Graphic novels (and audiobooks) still count as reading!! We finally get a Wise Girl!!! Grover seemed a little miffed at Annabeth. We get some backstory on Luke and Hermes. Meanwhile, Grover meets Augustus. Annabeth doesn't know what to do about the bigger plan at play here and Percy is SHOCKED. Why would Pan be in the Lotus Hotel and Casino? Does anyone know what story Hermes was telling when he was first introduced? The way Hermes' face turns pained when they introduce them as Luke's friends! Was there anything of note in Hermes' office? Annabeth has all the subtly of a sledgehammer. Mortal/god relationships are toxic. What was up with that Young Percy flashback? Hermes is insidious in a different way from Ares. Did you catch Annabeth pulling out her hat as she left? Hermes has some great quotes about parenting. What is Hermes' motivation here? Speaking of motivation, what about Augustus' motives? Was Grover actually close to finding Pan? Percy chose not to lie to Grover about how he kind of made them late. The driving scene was hilarious, and we loved every second. Does 3N17 stand for anything? They made it to Santa Monica in one piece!! This episode gave us some flashbacks to the Tartarus scenes from the books. Is this the same nereid from the other episode? The deadline already passed!! Percy refuses to give up on his quest. There's no way one of those pearls doesn't break, right? What's the difference between a nereid and a naiad? Feedback (01:51:13) notjustanotherfangirl is looking forward to season 2's credits sequence. Nicolaas rightly says that mechanical monster from episode 1 was a rhino, not a bull. Morgan had a guess for those bat/serpent/octopus creatures. Judith likes that Grover doesn't eat random things when he's upset. Jessica wants to know which added scenes we've liked best so far. Solomon had some thoughts on Medusa. Toby Stephens News warns us that making viewers reevaluate the definition of monstrosity is Jon Steinberg's love language. We need Athena and her owl ASAP. Jessica writes back in to talk about the winter solstice visit. And Nicolaas also loved Hephaestus' musical cues. Percy Jackson and the Olympians forces us to reevaluate our definition of monstrosity. The Do's and Don'ts of Percy Jackson's Visit to the Gateway Arch. Here's the Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 4 poster. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 5, “A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers” (00:31:27) Are we disappointed we didn't stay underwater with Percy? Annabeth NEVER doubted Percy was alive. Her FACE when she realizes she's still hugging him. Percy thinks he's so clever, and Grover and Annabeth share the cutest look. Also, he's obsessed with that hug and she's already moved on. How is Percy so confident that he can change Fate? Ares' coat is SO. DRAMATIC. Of course he would have the sound on his phone all the way up. If you're arguing with a Twitter troll, it's probably the god of war. We're so glad they brought Gabe back to do the news interview. Annabeth has NO FEAR! Again, the show incorporates exposition in such a subtle, clever way. Adam Copeland is so good at switching the deadly god persona on and off. Grover does not hesitate to stay behind as collateral. Did Percy just ask Annabeth on a date? That whole thing with the door was brilliant, adding tension and showing us more of Annabeth's personality. Percy thinks Ares is super gross for bringing Aphrodite to Hephaestus' waterpark, and you know what? He's not wrong. Grover is so good at buttering up Ares, and tbh he makes a lot of great points. We're loving the Percabeth banter so much. Also obsessed with the music choice and the animation on the walls of the tunnel. Is Percy a little angry at his mom? We need this ride at Disney!! “I'm figuring this out as I go” is Percy Jackson's life motto. Have we heard about this winter solstice presentation before? Athena and her owl—we can't wait to see it. Grover is so clever, omg. SEAWEED BRAIN. SEAWEED BRAIN. SEAWEED BRAIN. It's so Percabeth, and we're beside ourselves. The performances in this episode are out of this world. Enter Hephaestus, who is not to be trifled with but is also maybe one of the more empathetic gods. Annabeth has changed so much in such little time knowing Percy. Was Ares surprised or disappointed to see the kids return with his shield? The adults in this show are SO MEAN omg. Just call him Impertinent Percy. Wait, Grover knows who the lightning thief is!? Feedback (01:43:13) Rowan has video proof of Rick's pronunciation of Thalia. Untherion wants to talk about the beach house, Blackjack, Grover's (lack of) crutches, and Annabeth being invisible when Percy, um, relieved himself. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 117, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 6! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #115 discusses Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 4, “I Plunge to My Death,” in all its glory! The Percabeth is strong with this one. We also tackle all the Percy Jackson news that came out in the hour between recording episodes, and read a few pieces of listener feedback that you sent in. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:53) Hot Topic has more Percy Jackson official merch for you to choose from. Oh, and Disney also has some official merch, too! Have you seen the Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode posters? We've got episode I and episode II right here for you. We also read out the Percy Jackson and the Olympians soundtrack official tracklist. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 4, “I Plunge to My Death” (00:08:21) This episode was definitely short, but it also packed in a lot of stuff! We start off with a flashback of Young Percy, and oh my gods OUR HEARTS. It's so interesting that he's afraid of the water. Sally implies she might not be around forever, and we just can't handle this. Young Percy shows up in one of the dreams, and we talk about who is warning Percy and who they're warning him against. Annabeth really looked up to Thalia, and you can tell she modeled herself on the other demigod. Percy does NOT like the way you have to earn your parents' respect in this world. We hear a bit of Annabeth's backstory, and it makes so much sense why she is the way she is. Grumpy Grover is hilarious, and we need more of him ASAP. Zeus must've sent Echidna, right? The Percabeth is really Percabething this episode. Seeing the centaurs out the window allows them to introduce the concept of Pan and the Searchers. Never try to understand a prophecy because you will FAIL. How do we feel about no Gladiola? Leah is THE perfect Annabeth, and no one will convince us otherwise. Echidna is one of those sickly sweet people who's just waiting to stab you in the back. Or, in Percy's case, in the chest. This series has such an interesting take on the concept of monstrosity. How do we feel about them changing the name and gender of the chimera? Did you know the St. Louis Arch was a sanctuary for Athena? Annabeth's love of architecture makes so much sense! Grover does NOT like manifest destiny. Percy makes Annabeth laugh!!! Seriously, there are so many great Percabeth moments this episode. Note to self: Fountain water does not cure illness due to poison stingers. What did Echidna say to Annabeth? Annabeth wants to sacrifice herself for the mission, but Percy is having none of that. Percy looks rough, but he's holding on. It's okay that we think the chimera is super cute, right? And we're totally okay that it doesn't have a goat-headed fire parascope coming out of its back. Echidna is the mother of monsters AND cutting people down one zinger at a time. The TV show fixed the issue with Percy falling into the river! Was the Nereid out of focus to help save some money on CGI? Poseidon has always been here, so trust him and breathe! Feedback (01:16:09) Sissypho has questions about Gladiola. A Bite Of Pod agrees that this show has a lot of rewatchability. The Damn Meme Page wants to know when we're getting that Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 renewal. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 116, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 5 in all its glory! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. Surprise, Percy Jackson and the Olympians now airs on Tuesdays at 9pm ET on Disney+. Take a closer look at the Percy Jackson and the Olympians end credits and his monster notebook! One of the hosts of Camp Half-Pod wrote an article about how Percy and Sally's relationship is the beating heart of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The Empire State Building lit up blue on December 20. There will be a Percy Jackson and the Olympians behind-the-scenes documentary. Teen Vogue profiled Walker Scobell and Leah Sava Jeffries. Watch as Rick Riordan reacts to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Capture the Flag scene. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 3, “We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium” (00:09:07) What were our overall thoughts on this episode? We loved seeing the attic and tried to spot as many items here as possible. The Oracle is SO CREEPY and we know Percy would agree. Why did we get so excited about the green smoke? Chiron can't fault Percy's logic for picking Annabeth. Poor Grover has to shovel poop as his punishment for defying Dionysus. Did Percy choose Grover to go on the quest to keep his enemy closer? Was that really Blackjack? We get an explanation of drachmas, and we're dying for some of our own. The wings coming out of the shoe's laces was amazing to watch. Why didn't Percy choose Luke for his quest? Annabeth says goodbye to Thalia's tree and Percy is NOT having it. The tension between Percabeth is going to make their friendship even more rewarding down the line. Did you realize which monster that woman in the convenience store was? Even Mrs. Dodds knows Annabeth is a badass! We got some major Percy Jackson musical vibes from that scene in the woods. Uncle Ferdinand's backstory is going to be relevant VERY soon. Why didn't they mention how demigods shouldn't have phones? We're really loving how much more we're getting from Annabeth in this episode. Percy is NOT happy that Grover was Annabeth's protector first. Saved by the burger! Medusa is giving off good vibes, to be honest. Though her house is giving Hansel and Gretel. We get Medusa's story from the Gorgon herself, and Annabeth doesn't like what she has to say about Athena. Medusa feels protective of Percy and offers him a choice, but he dips before he gets stuck between a rock and a hard place. WHY WOULD YOU RUN INTO THE BASEMENT? Did anyone else forget Medusa had snakes for hair? Annabeth's impromptu plan is pretty amazing. Why doesn't Uncle Ferdinand's statue look afraid like the others? Grover calls out both of his friends for their recent antics and attitude. This is definitely the start of some kind of friendship between Percy and Annabeth. What do you mean, Percy IS impertinent. We're obsessed with the consensus song. We totally were not expecting to see Hermes at the end of the episode! That song playing during the end credits is absolutely perfect. Feedback (01:39:12) Toni thinks we should get a renewal for 14 more seasons, and we totally agree. Sword of Avalon writes in with an awesome idea for a vlog series called The Demigod Diaries. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 115, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 4 in detail! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Logan Lerman wrote a little message to Walker! Aryan has CALVES OF STEEL. Did you remember that the owls in the second episode were wild!? Leah didn't know Nirvana was a band and Lin was very upset. Walker is terrified of Dior, and we love it. We debate the merits of Percy Jackson vs. Harry Potter. Everyone is so excited for us to see Ares! All signs point toward Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. TV Insider quizzed the trio on their knowledge of the book, and it was TOUGH. Percy Jackson and the Olympians led the charge for the top 25 buzziest shows of the week. Screenrant's interview might be full of ads, but we break down the important bits. Liam's interview with the trio was, of course, highly anticipated. He also got to play a game of Heads Up with them! Essence spoke to Leah Jeffries about staying true to herself. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiere was the event of the year! We talk about the blue carpet and the outfits that stood out to us. We also got to see Adam Copeland and Dior Goodjohn meet for the first time. There's also plenty of BTS footage from the premiere. Have you checked out the show's ratings on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes? Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 2, “I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom” (00:42:12) SO glad we got the “you drool when you sleep” line! Percy is still very mad at Grover, and you can tell Grover feels terrible. He's the one who told everyone about the minotaur! The Big House is so incredibly beautiful. PETER JOHNSON IS HERE! Percy is so sassy, even when his life is hanging in the balance. Jason Mantzoukas is the perfect Dionysus! Percy is not at all phased by the fact that Mr. Brunner is actually Chiron the centaur. Can we please have more Chiron and Mr. D banter? Camp Half-Blood is everything we could've dreamed and more. Percy's already got the measure of the gods, and he's been here for two seconds. Being the new kid really sucks. But at least Luke seems nice? We're OBSESSED with the dryad we meet in the next scene. And we loved the Council of Cloven Elders even though we didn't get to see much of it. Mr. D is actually kind of scary when he wants to be. What does Percy's dream mean and WHO is talking to him?? We love all the representation we see amongst the campers! Was that Charlie Beckendorf? There IS a a goddess of failure after all. That scene where Percy burns the candy to talk to his mom was DEVASTATING. Clarisse is up to no good, and even though she isn't how we pictured her from the books, we like her portrayal a lot. Annabeth totally figured out who Percy's father was in this scene. Why-oh-why do we have to pronounce Thalia that way?? FINALLY we get the Capture the Flag scene, and it is GLORIOUS. The fight choreography is great so far. How much do you want to learn about crested geckos? The way Percy just smashes Clarisse's sword? Oh, he's gonna pay. Percy Jackson, son of the sea god, Poseidon. We get a quest and a deadline. Must be a Percy Jackson story. It makes SO MUCH SENSE to tell Percy that his mom is still alive. Feedback (02:15:40) WisdomsDaughter correctly states that we've been waiting YEARS for an adaptation like this. Annie tells us that Percy Jackson trends every day in Brazil! Azriel Dalman as Young Percy is so, so good. And look! There's Blackjack! The colchis bull turning into the garbage truck was amazing, and we love Percy's drawing. We go through all of Percy's drawings in his notebook and figure out which monsters he's seen and heard about. We NEED a set of Mythomagic cards. Sally explains that not all heroes are heroic, and not all monsters are monstrous. We already hate Nancy and Mrs. Dodds. They're the worst! You can tell Gabe is a terrible person by his choice in footwear. We learn how to ACTUALLY pronounce Mr. Brunner's name. Let's discuss Sally and Gabe's relationship in the show because it feels different from the books. Who is speaking to Percy in his dream? The exposition in this show is done so, so well. Was Percy able to heal himself in the drainage ditch because it was filled with water? “You are singular” really stuck out to us. Percy is PISSED, and the minotaur is gonna pay for what it did to his mother. We finally, finally get a glimpse of Annabeth. Welcome to Camp-Half Blood! We loved the end credits sequence so much, we went through it frame by frame to pick out all the secrets. Percy Jackson and the Olympians press week (00:27:50) We've got A LOT of interviews to cover, so sit back and enjoy our breakdown of the highlights. (You can also read the accompanying article.) First up, we've got showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz, plus Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri. How familiar were the kids with the books? How did they make these characters their own? Which scenes best showcased Percabeth? What was it like being on the Camp Half-Blood set? Someone asked Walker if he was going to be in Deadpool 3! What aspect of their own personalities did they put into their characters? Which scenes were they most excited to film? How much babysitting did Aryan have to do!? How did they toe the line between being faithful to the books and bringing this story to life in a different medium? What did they take home from the set? (Aryan's answer got us VERY excited.) What did Walker learn from his co-stars? Our friends at Monster Donut Podcast got to ask what their favorite myths are. There were several questions about being faithful to the books, and we love Jon and Dan's answers. Next up, we got to talk to Jeff White, the visual effects supervisor for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. How did the team make the world of Percy Jackson stand out? What creature did they have the most fun creating? We get some really cool behind-the-scenes information about how Chiron was brought to life. We also learned how much Aryan did to bring Grover to the small screen. Jeff also talked about the Volume stage and how integral it was to creating the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He also told us a few fun stories about figuring out different ways to bring aspects of the story alive, like Riptide and Iris Messaging. What drew Jeff to this project? Time and time again, everyone said how often they'd go back to the books for inspiration! Next up, we heard from set designer Dan Henna and costume designer Tish Monaghan. They both talk about their process for expanding on what was given in the books. We also learn how they both helped bring Camp Half-Blood to life. Hearing about Alecto's transformation really added to our feelings about the scene. There was so much talk about Medusa's portrayal, and we're even more excited to see her on screen now. And who can forget about the Lotus Hotel and Casino? They both describe their favorite costumes and sets. Again, the constant mantra on set was “go back to the book.” Lastly, we also got to hear from Rick and Becky Riordan! There was lots of talking about refreshing the story and doing some things Rick wished he would've done 20 years ago. They also talk about how they just knew when they found the trio. There were no pre-conceived notions about who would be cast as the gods. Becky commented on the fact that they got to expand upon Luke's motivations. We also learn about some moments from the series that can't be found in the book. They didn't want slapstick comedy, but there are still plenty of laughs. It's important that the show feels modern and timeless. We can't wait to learn more about Sally and Poseidon's relationship! Did you know that Rick and Becky didn't go see Camp Half-Blood until it was all finished? We were so excited to learn how important Becky was to the process of adapting the series. Seaweed Brain Podcast got to ask them if Percabeth was the greatest love story of all time! Would we want to see a Percy Jackson and the Olympians musical episode? We'll have more to discuss next week! Be sure to leave us your thoughts! Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes 1 and 2 spoiler-free review (02:12:21) We got to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes 1 and 2 ahead of the premiere date and WE'RE SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS SHOW. First, we have to give you our overall thoughts, which is that we absolutely loved the episodes we got to see. The quality of the show is immaculate, between the set production, the costuming, and the visual effects. It's also extremely accurate to the source material! Anything they changed was small-scale, and felt logical for the tone of the story. Seeing Camp Half-Blood was surreal, and the Big House was beautiful! It was amazing that they somehow made everyone look like individuals despite all wearing the same shirts. And Chiron and Mr. D's costumes were perfect and fit them so well. We talk more about the dryad that Tish Monaghan mentioned. Okay, but now we need to get into our thoughts on everyone's performances. Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson is literally perfect. He OWNS this character. We also can't get enough of Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase. She's silent a lot through her scenes, but she says SO MUCH. And then there's Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. He's got great chemistry with Walker, and his comedic timing is also genius. But we were super impressed by Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson. And no one will be surprised that Jason Mantzoukas is the perfect Dionysus. And the same goes for Glynn Turman as Chiron, who is more perfect than anyone could've dreamed. This is, without a doubt, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation that we've always dreamed of. Feedback (02:42:58) Mac wants to know if CRITICS will enjoy the show? Ark is curious if there are some fan-favorite quotes that made it into the series. Dr. Tiezn needs to know more about Camp Half-Blood coming to life. Solomon's son wants to know if the show is accurate to the book. Meanwhile, Ennis is worried about Grover's hair. We also hear from Rebeca, who talks about Chalice of the Gods and might start her own podcast in Spanish! Darcy also writes in to tell us which Rick Riordan Presents book are currently optioned and at which streaming services. Stick around for our updated schedule! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 112, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 1 in all its glory! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Each episode, our Prophecy Radio hosts and their guests will keep you up to date on the latest information coming out of Camp Half-Blood, including upcoming books and adaptation news, discuss a topic of choice, and do a chapter by chapter reread of the Percy Jackson series. Prophecy Radio episode #110 tackles Chalice of the Gods chapters 18-20, where Annabeth once again proves she's the best thing that ever happened to Percy Jackson! We also discuss the latest news from the Riordanverse, including a new Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV spot and poster. With better looks at Cerberus, the flying shoes, and Clarisse, we're more excited than ever for the premiere on December 20. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:03:01) How is it already December!? At least Percy Jackson and the Olympians is right around the corner! We have official confirmation of the show's episode titles. Make sure you're checking @PercySeries on Instagram, since they're not posting on Twitter as much anymore. Did you catch the recent Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV spot? The minotaur scene is gonna be pretty significant, as we already know. We got a new angle of the Capture the Flag scene! Karen is very intense about fight choreography, and she's already pretty impressed. Are we disappointed we saw the claiming scene ahead of the premiere? Did anyone picture the trident that big!? What do the other symbols look like!? It's very important that we now know what the winged shoes look like. Does this scene give away that the shoes are trouble? How are they outrunning Cerberus!? You can tell we're film nerds because we talk about how impressed we are with the lighting. This article from Deadline told us when the NYC and London premieres would take place. What if they renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for season 2 AND 3 at the same time!? Are we looking at a possible Rick Riordan Cinematic Universe? We also discuss the new poster that came out. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:36:53) Let's kick off this week's discussion with Chalice of the Gods chapter 18. Imagine being a son of Poseidon and then…drowning! Did this scene feel like a nod to the complaints that Percy is a little OP sometimes? And his first thought was whether Annabeth was okay!! We loved Ellison's reaction to Percy cleaning the cavern. Tip of the day: Green tea can give you anxiety!! How did the idea of demigods visiting the river come up, and was it Annabeth or Ellison's idea? Was Percy serious about whale yoga!? Annabeth always has a plan! Karen didn't feel like choosing only one favorite quote this episode, so she didn't. Kristen serenades us with the chorus of “Help!” Next up, we're discussing Chalice of the Gods chapter 19. Playing the song “YMCA” is clearly a desperate call for help. We loved when Annabeth trolled Percy and tricked him into skipping. It's hard not to imagine what this book would look like on screen. How long has Zeus known about Percy? It was only a matter of time before Karen went off on a tangent about Tremors. Karen did a mini deep dive into the mythologies centered around horned serpents. Callie might not care about laser pointers or boxes, but she loves popcorn. Percy's last thoughts before he thinks he'll die are centered around Annabeth AND WE LOVE TO SEE IT. We want to know why rainbows taste and smell so bad, but maybe we shouldn't question the science. Last but not least, it's time to discuss Chalice of the Gods chapter 20. Is…is this considered satyr boudoir? We never would've guessed Mercedes was the staff. Does Kristen have any idea who Gary is!? Iris was shockingly helpful in this chapter. Kristen was very excited to make fun of Wisconsin. There are SO MANY great quotes in these three chapters. Feedback (01:25:12) Maria asks if that scene between Eudora and Percy where she tells him about getting double credit for the quests was Rick's backup plan for doing this story all in one book. Shout-out to J. Maya for being a fan of the podcast. We hope her music makes it into the show at some point! If you're from the UK, you can enter a chance to win tickets to the London premiere for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 111, in which we'll discuss Chalice of the Gods chapters 21-23! Prophecy Radio episode #109 tackles Chalice of the Gods chapters 15-17, in which we head to the River Elisson and meet the Man Bun of Doom! We also discuss the latest news from the Riordanverse, but it's a pretty light week because of the holiday. At least we have some new photos to discuss thanks to the Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief tie-in edition. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:20) We spend a good amount of time talking about…volcanoes. Be sure to check out PJO Pod's interviews from NYCC! We also discuss the photos that came out with the Lightning Thief tie-in edition. We all want a Yancy Academy sweatshirt. Is that second picture outside of Yancy Academy? How does everyone feel about Luke's scar? Have we seen a bigger photo of Percy and Annabeth in the bathroom? We can't wait to see Percy trying out all the different activities to see what he's good at. Will we see anyone who could be Beckendorf? Dior Goodjohn is really convincing Kristen that she's gonna be an amazing Clarisse. Look at Grover's little horns!! That box has got to be the shoes…right?? We're obsessed with Medusa's whole look. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:14:14) This week, we're starting off with Chalice of the Gods chapter 15. Reader, she flushed Percy Jackson all the way out to Yonkers. Applying to college is SO confusing. Ellison sounds grumpy and Eudora does NOT want to make him any angrier. Luckily, she finds a way to send him where he needs to go. Maybe we figured out how kids get all their gold drachmas? Did you know they paved over a lot of streams in New York City? The river is really, REALLY dirty downstream. Percy has to come back later with the staff and some backup. In Chalice of the Gods chapter 16, Grover busts out some snake songs—though, unfortunately, none of them are from Taylor Swift. Kristen is SO Annabeth and Karen is SO Grover. The bioluminescent moss scene was soooo cute. We loved every second Grover decided to take the lead and how far he's come. Shockingly, Annabeth brings up both Luke Castellan and his flying shoes. They've got a pretty solid plan until they hear the panpipes, then Annabeth shoves Percy off the cliff! In Chalice of the Gods chapter 17, they meet the Man Bun of Doom. Somehow Percy loves the fact that Annabeth shoved him off a cliff. Did you see the Read Riordan article about the River Elisson? We're kind of obsessed with how sarcastic Elisson is. No demigods, no shoes, and absolutely NO using his headwaters!! Who hurt Elisson? We really need to know. He clearly has an inferiority complex, and Percy hits a nerve. How long DOES it take for a child of Poseidon to drown? Can your dreams determine who your godly parent is!? Feedback (00:51:30) Shannon wrote in about Sally Jackson's age and some great moments in this week's chapters. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 110, in which we'll discuss Chalice of the Gods chapters 18-20! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #108 finally discusses Chalice of the Gods chapters 12-14, which we've been promising for a couple weeks now! We also do a deep dive into the brand-new, full-length Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer. The show is almost a month out now, and we're getting more excited than ever! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:09:46) We spend a good part of our intro talking about the fact that Goodreads removed the middle grade & children's, poetry, and graphic novels categories. Timothy Omundson wrote a beautiful message on Instagram about playing Hephaestus. Andrew Alvarez FINALLY confirmed he's playing Chris Rodriguez. We found out that the review embargo lifts on December 14. Liam gives us some pretty amazing stats about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer. Okay, it's time to talk about the full-length Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer. We cannot get over how much Azriel Dalman looks like a young Walker Scobell! Seaweed Brain Podcast mentioned how they went to NYCC and found out that Percy and Sally's relationship will be expanded for the show. There are a bunch of blink-and-you'll-miss-it flashes of footage before the title hits the screen. We're totally supposed to hate Nancy Bobofit, but we really love this actress. Gotta be careful about how trailers are cut because it could be misleading! Is that shot of Blackjack from the opening seven minutes of the show? We also see Chiron give Percy Riptide, which was another scene they got to see at NYCC 2023. Did you catch that quick flash of Cerberus jumping for the red ball in Percy's hand? What do you think of Luke's scar? It definitely looks like the minotaur comes down from the sky. Still laughing at the choice to make Poseidon's shirt so wrinkly. Did you notice that the top of Poseidon's throne looks like waves? We discuss what the thrones actually look like according to the book. Placing the master bolt down in from of the Empire State Building guard was SO exciting to see! Clarisse's spear is BADASS. Is that dark forest the underworld? If so, could what we thought was the oracle actually be something else? Could we possibly see Hestia? Percy's shirt is SO MUCH BRIGHTER than everyone else's. We're so glad this trailer gives us some more humorous moments. Is that hydra target a reference to the first movie!? Did you catch the demigod in a wheelchair? What lit up the tunnel of love ride? Annabeth is amazing, but we're not telling you anything you don't already know. Unlock your destiny. Unleash your power. Hold fast. Brave the storm. OUR HEARTS. That chimera looks terrifying! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:45:39) This week, we're starting off with Chalice of the Gods chapter 12. We really love how much of a slice-of-life story this is. Percy was impressive, but not TOO impressive. The Mist really works wonders! We're kind of obsessed with Standard Olympian Beverage Number 5. Percy fills Ganymede in on the plan, and even though Ganymede is nervous, he's choosing to trust his elected demigod. Percy and Annabeth chat via Iris Message, and we love their relationship so much. But we still have a lot of questions about how they earn drachmas! Imagine being Annabeth's roommate lol. In Chalice of the Gods chapter 13, the trio meets up with Blanche. Grover is obsessed with Blanche. Karen is obsessed with Blanche. Everyone is obsessed with Blanche. We get a really specific description of Iris, and her eyes sound absolutely mesmerizing. Reptile guys and goth girls really go together, if you didn't already know. Is complete indifference the best way to get your godly parent's attention!? We discuss the favor that Annabeth now owes Blanche for introducing them to her mother. Next up is Chalice of the Gods chapter 14, in which Iris gives Percy a big stick! Imagine that, Iris is actually a good listener. And being a cupbearer is a thankless job. The goddess doesn't give information away for free, so they have a quest within a quest to accomplish. We also get an official deadline for Ganymede's quest, and it's pretty long compared to most of the others Percy's had to deal with over the years. Where is the River Elisson and how can they possibly find it!? Now the horned serpents and all the rainbows on the Chalice of the Gods UK cover make so much more sense. Feedback (01:13:15) Sean has another guess as to what could be in the box. Nicolaas may have fallen behind (it's okay!), but he was excited to jump into our discussion of all the recent Percy Jackson and the Olympians footage. And Ms. Bobbilicious also wrote in to tell us her idea for Rick's cameo—and we LOVE IT. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 109, in which we'll discuss Chalice of the Gods chapters 15-17! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #107 discusses ALL of the recent Percy Jackson and the Olympians footage, including teasers, photos, and interviews because the SAG-AFTRA strike is now officially over! We also break down the latest Riordanverse news, including a super fun Read Riordan article and Rick's latest blog post. Could this be the end of Kristen's Korner forever!? Tune in to find out! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:39) If you couldn't tell, we're VERY excited to jump into this week's discussion because it's been a long, long, LONG time coming. But first, make sure you check out this hilarious article from Read Riordan titled, “The Monster's Guide to Posing as a Human.” Rick also gave us yet another blog post on November 10. But it didn't tell us anything we didn't already know, and we'll discuss more of what he posted about later. Could this be the final Kristen's Korner!? The strikes are over and we are free to talk about Percy Jackson and the Olympians! You can read the full text of the agreement between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA on the SAG-AFTRA website. There's also a thread on Twitter that gives you a good overview. We go over a few of the highlights, including the amount of money in new wages and the streaming participation bonus. SAG also negotiated for consent and compensation for the use of AI, but let's be honest here: this is not the end of the discussion by far. This contract only lasts three years, and it'll be interesting to see what's changed in that time. Increased pension and health caps are important! And so are the protections for diverse communities. Overall, this did a lot for the community, and we hope everyone benefits greatly moving forward. Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailers and images (00:11:47) But now it's time to talk about all of the footage, images, and interviews for Percy Jackson and the Olympians we couldn't discuss previously! We have A LOT to get through, so sit back, put on your thinking cap, and let us know if we've missed any details. First up, we have the teaser for the teaser trailer. We finally have a premiere date, and it's coming so much sooner than expected! It's interesting that we're already getting a look at shots from the END of the season. Karen really went all out to get all the details. Did you see the giant skeleton hanging from the ceiling of the Poseidon cabin? We're guessing at a lot of the context of these scenes, but we're pretty sure we're right. Who can do a smoky eye better than Medusa!? Did you catch Thalia's tree along the left side of the screen as the trio was leaving camp? Annabeth is most likely stabbing the chimera, and she looks SO BADASS. We're gonna be emotionally damaged when the minotaur attacks Sally. Glynn Turman really has the best voice for the character of Chiron! We love the outro titles, along with the cover of Vance Joy's “Riptide” by Stealth. This teaser didn't give away any big moments, especially for those unfamiliar with the story. We discuss the list of directors for each episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians James Bobin has a lot of great productions under his belt targeted toward children. Jet Wilkinson has dome some SERIOUS directorial work for Disney already, along with some other great shows. Anders Engström has done a few projects we've heard about, and one of them was with Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz. Did you read the September 18 Entertainment Weekly article? We talk about Aryan Simhadri as Grover, along with how a Black Annabeth falls perfectly in line with what Rick wanted to accomplish with this story. We also get FOUR new still and discuss them in detail. Okay, it's time to talk about the real teaser trailer now. We're really loving that cover of “Riptide.” Here's the statue of Perseus that Percy is looking at while at the museum. Mr. Brunner is very excited to be teaching Greek History. Percy is SO ready to beat up Nancy Bobofit on Grover's behalf. Megan Mulally as Mrs. Dodds is truly inspired casting. We try to figure out why Percy is crying into the mirror. Did you catch all the details on Zeus' throne? We love the exchange between Percy and Grover in this trailer. Is Percy standing on the porch of the Big House in the next shot? Why are the Poseidon and Ares signs the only ones painted? Chiron has a brace on his leg, and we love this added detail SO MUCH. Did you catch the details of Hades and Persephone's thrones? Liam Crowley has an interview that explains the direction they took with the Underworld. PercySeries released some blurry photos during our recording that we pick apart. Did you spot Auntie Em's Garden Gnome Emporium, along with the Lotus Hotel & Casino? Will we see the human skin on Ares' motorcycle!? Is that statue of Aphrodite an automaton? Was that the Oracle or another creature? Why is Annabeth hugging Percy!? Did you know some people think this show looks low budget??? We've seen the minotaur scene a hundred times and it's still gonna wreck us. According to Rick, he has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in the show. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Becky's made the cut. We also got confirmation that he's NOT the Empire State Building Security Guard. Don't forget to pick up an official Camp Half-Blood T-shirt from Hot Topic. Knight Edge Media revealed the episode titles for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It's now time to talk about everything that came out of NYCC 2023! Go follow Liam Crowley on Twitter because he has a lot of great coverage! Fans will definitely get some surprises in the first season. Did you see the description of the first seven minutes of the show? The first exclusive clip was Mr. Brunner giving Percy Riptide. The second exclusive clip was the minotaur scene. Everyone is excited for fans to see the chimera and Cerberus. Rick and Becky showed up to introduce the capture the flag scene. Make sure you watch through the credits. Here are some new images of Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson. Did you see the amazing motion poster—which is also a subway ad? Yes, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailer is the most popular video on the Disney+ YouTube Channel. Bear McCreary is scoring PJOTV. Azrael Dalman will play young Percy Jackson. It's time to go through ALL the official cast photos and look for hints at what's to come. Here's the BTS photos of Lin-Manuel Miranda on set. Do yourself a favor and set time aside to read the Variety cover story on Percy Jackson and the Olympians. We're probably getting a new trailer (and maybe a season 2 announcement?) on November 16. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 108, in which we'll discuss Chalice of the Gods chapters 12-14! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #106 discusses Chalie of the Gods chapters 9 through 11 in all of their glory, including how wistful and introspective Percy is these days! We also break down the latest Riordanverse news, including Rick's latest blog posts, J. Maya's fate on Survivor season 45, the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, and Graci Kim's newly announced series coming in 2025. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:02:02) Life has been pretty chaotic on every front lately, but we're doing our best to get back into the groove of the podcast. Thanks for sticking with us! We start the episode with a discussion of Rick's October 17 blog post, in which he discusses what's going on in Gaza at the present moment. This post had no promotion, and it was seemingly deleted and then reuploaded. Rightfully, fans have been critical of Rick for talking about Gaza and then transitioning into self-promotion. Please be aware there is A LOT of misinformation out there about what's happening right now, so do your due diligence and verify all the information you're receiving before passing it on. Tehlor Kay Mejia, Daniel José Older, and Sarwat Chadda have been speaking out a lot on their platforms about Gaza, Israel, and Palestine, so be sure to follow them for additional resources. Mark Oshiro is raising funds for Palestine through Books for Palestine. The auction is now live. Here is a list of Palestinian journalists on the ground in Gaza. If you have the ability to donate, charities like Save the Children, Doctors without Borders, and Palestine Children's Relief Fund are good places to start. You can also use 5Calls to talk to your representatives about a ceasefire. Rick also wrote a blog post on October 23 about the recent releases from Rick Riordan Presents, and some upcoming titles. We're particularly looking forward to A Drop of Venom, Winston Chu vs. the Wingmeisters, and It Waits in the Forest. Read Riordan has also been busy over the last two weeks, wanting you to catch up with Zyanya from Dawn of the Jaguar, as well as meet Admiral Paik from Fox Snare. They also wrote a cute little article about how to sneak into Camp Half-Blood. Graci Kim also announced the title and a vague release date for her next book, Dreamslinger. We read through the synopsis and confirm that we're really excited about this one! Kristen's Korner is back as we discuss the last two episodes of Survivor season 45 and J's fate on the island. The SAG-AFTRA strikes are ongoing, and we're waiting with bated breath to see what becomes of them. Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan (00:36:54) Let's kick off our discussion with Chalice of the Gods chapter 9! Getting chased by chickens is, like, Karen's worst nightmare. Annabeth is SO SMART, and we love how single-minded she is in leading the trio. Grover is so helpful in this chapter, and we love seeing him be the person with all the helpful information. Did you know that Hebe and Hercules got married!? Did we just find out why satyrs age half as fast as humans!? Grover must go distract the chickens while Annabeth and Percy commit a party fowl. NGL, we kinda love Li'l Killer. Okay, the plan is to sing a song and beg for forgiveness. The backup plan is Plan Chick…whatever that means! This chapter may have contained Karen's single favorite joke in all of Rick Riordan's books. Let's move on to Chalice of the Gods chapter 10. It's time to belt out a tune by some guy. Why is the choice always the plan succeeds or we die!? This is 90% all Percy's fault. Percy has his priorities, and Annabeth has hers. When did you figure out what Plan Chick was? Annabeth really is a genius. This was SO CLEVER. The trio FINALLY get returned to their proper ages. It's now time for Chalice of the Gods chapter 11. Hebe sends the trio after Iris, down at the farmers' market. It's so cute how excited Percy is for a local quest, but also pretty sad how traumatized he is by being turned back into a little kid. Sally Jackson gets the Mother of the Century award. Do we have to worry about her getting older!? What was Percy like when he was a kid? Mark Oshiro's influence on Rick is SO OBVIOUS in this chapter. Yes, Percy, MILLIONS of people have dreamt of slipping into your life. Can Percy wash the dishes and play video games at the same time!? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 107, in which we'll discuss Chalice of the Gods chapters 12-14! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #105 discusses Fox Snare by Yoon Ha Lee, the final book in the Thousand Worlds series! We also break down the latest Riordanverse news, including updates on Survivor season 45, the SAG-AFTRA strike, and those STUNNING new covers for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series exclusively found at Illumicrate. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:02:37) Khadijah Khatib shared her paintings for Chalice of the Gods and the first three Percy Jackson and the Olmypians covers. A Drop of Venom by Sajni Patel got a starred review from Publishers Weekly. Read Riordan has an exclusive excerpt of Fox Snare, as well as a spotlight on Captain Chaewon. You can also meet Eréndira from Dawn of the Jaguar. Becky talked about the differences in the Chalice of the Gods special editions. Did you see the gorgeous Illumicrate editions of Percy Jackson and the Olympians? Kristen updates us on J. Maya's progress on Survivor season 45. Let's hope she doesn't have a target on her back! SAG-AFTRA is going back to the negotiating table on Tuesday, October 24. Here's to hoping we'll have good news next week! Fox Snare by Yoon Ha Lee (00:24:13) We can't believe the Thousand Worlds series has come to a close! What is Fox Snare about? What did we think of this book, and how did it compare to the others? We talk about the various themes we found throughout this book. Min matured so much throughout these books, and it was so great to see her again in this one! Not everyone is happy that she's the bearer of the Dragon Pearl. Jun very much acts as Min's conscience. More on Silhouette later… We wish there had been more information about Sebin's family. The dynamic between Haneul and the others is super interesting and leads to some good conversation. There's also a lot of political intrigue within the pages of this book, but it's done so subtly that it doesn't overtake the story. The Haetae shows up in this book, too, but in a totally different form! It's SO important to remember how young all these characters are! Miho is an interesting character that we'll have to talk more about in the spoiler section. Speaking of, the spoiler section starts at 46:07. We loved all the descriptions of the food that Min was unfamiliar with! Did you realize who the Sun Clans represent? It was interesting to read about the intricacies of the language and culture even though we're reading this in English. We really liked Ambassador Tanaka! And we were so sad to hear about what happened to Silhouette. What was her real name!? The Dragon Pearl will make the best tangerines you've ever had in your life. Did we trust Miho at all over the course of this story?? How did she have control over those creatures on the planet? We're so mad at her for making Haneul sick. And also for blowing up the space station. THE WINK WAS SO GOOD. So…Miho is, like, really old. We really loved how Yoon wrapped up the part of the story with the ghosts. In fact, we loved the end of this book as a whole. We have so many ideas for the future of this series if Yoon Ha Lee decides to write more. Feedback (01:12:38) Anthony writes in to tell us how he got into Percy Jackson and discovered the podcast. Thank you for your kind words! Did your elementary school pizza look like melted vinyl? How do you practice dominance in the herd? We also break down the latest Riordanverse news, including updates on Survivor season 45, the SAG-AFTRA strike, and which Rick Riordan Presents book we'll be discussing next. You can meet Prince Lord on Read Riordan, as well as read an exclusive excerpt. Fox Snare by Yoon Ha Lee is on sale on October 17. Meet Yang Miho and refamiliarize yourself with Haneul. For the first time in a few months, we got a new blog post from Rick! Rick regales us with highlights from the Chalice of the Gods book tour. He also talked about the WGA strike ending and what that means for the projects he has in the works. Did you see the design of this ORIGINAL Camp Half-Blood shirt? Was anyone else disappointed that the sprayed edges on the UK edition of Chalice of the Gods didn't include the top and bottom? But let's talk about how GORGEOUS those new covers are for Percy Jackson and the Olympians that Khadijah Khatib designed. Here's a link to the Disney Create 100 auction. Tell your rich uncle! Kristen kicks off her korner by talking about J. Maya's current situation on Survivor season 45. Will switching tribes actually help her game!? Who would J team up with if she switched tribes? In worse news…the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing because the AMPTP has stepped away from the negotiating table. Here is SAG-AFTRA's thread about their proposal. You can also read Deadline's articles about how the talks were suspended and the bully tactics being used against SAG-AFTRA. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:54:16) Let's kick off this discussion with Chalice of the Gods chapter 6! Times Square is, like, a one time thing. We got a billboard reference!! Hebe Jeebies is pretty much the greatest name forever. So funny and so useful! Apparently goat guys love licorice?? This arcade has the same addictive qualities as those stupid phone games you can't seem to put down. Hebe Jeebies definitely has an element of magic to it. Do kids in America know what a hen party is? Percy is in RARE form in these chapters, and we take a moment to talk about how Rick is just killing it in this book. Would you hand Chalice of the Gods or The Lightning Thief to someone you want to get into the series? Who ISN'T always anxious and hungry?? Percy and Stiles are one in the same. WE LOVE SALLY JACKSON!!! Next up: Chalice of the Gods chapter 7. Big Shocker: I Offend a Goddess — Percy Jackson's Memoir We spend a considerable amount of time discussing the pizza of our childhood. Percy is SO anti-boomer, and we're here for it. Why would Hebe assume the trio wants to shave some years of their lives? To her credit, Hebe pretty much instantly realizes what's going on here. And she is NOT happy that they're accusing her of stealing the chalice. Kristen regales us with memories from her elementary school days. Let's wrap this up with Chalice of the Gods chapter 8. We have to define the phrase ‘younged us.' Seeing baby Percy, Annabeth, and Grover was FANTASTIC. Can someone PLEASE draw this?? UNLEASH THE PREDATORS! Karen understands this intense fear of chickens. Just call her Arlo. Are you telling us that Riptide has a childproof cap!? This chapter was SO QUOTABLE. It really was fascinating to see the trio as young kids and see what they struggled with the most. Feedback (01:18:49) Shoutout to The Dam Meme Page and all the other Riordanverse podcasters for being superheroes. Moving forward, we're going to put a spoiler warning on our quote graphics on Instagram for Chalice of the Gods! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 105, in which we'll discuss Fox Snare by Yoon Ha Lee! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. We also break down the latest Riordanverse news, including updates on Survivor season 45, the SAG-AFTRA strike, upcoming Rick Riordan Presents books, and more. Oh, and we also discuss Chalice of the Gods chapters 4 and 5. It's a packed episode that you don't want to miss! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:45) There's a lot of birthdays to celebrate this week! Fox Snare by Yoon Ha Lee releases on October 17. Read Riordan wants you to meet Sparkstriker, from Dawn of the Jaguar by J.C. Cervantes, out on October 10. Sarwat Chadda just got a deal for a new middle grade fantasy series from Simon & Schuster, according to Publishers Weekly. We are already obsessed, and we can't wait to check it out in 2025! Read Riordan also wants you to meet Elisson from Chalice of the Gods. Percy Jackson has been on the NYT bestsellers list for approximately eight thousand years. Welcome back to yet another installment of Kristen's Korner! We give you a little update on J. Maya's progress on Survivor season 45. We're so happy she ended up as a GIF. Could she make it to the merge!? Only time will tell! Did you see that Dylan O'Brien and Logan Lerman were striking together the other day? According to SAG-AFTRA, negotiations are ongoing. Hopefully we'll have good news next week! Chalice of the Gods book tour—Chicago (00:17:39) Karen provides all the details from the Chalice of the Gods book tour stop in Chicago. When you see orange t-shirts, you know you've found your people. The WILDEST coincidence occurred while she was there. Shoutout to our new best friend from Anderson's Bookshop. Oh, yeah, we totally have a giveaway in the works. Check our Twitter and Instagram for details! Speaking of, Anderson's sounds like an amazing place with an awesome history. Apologies for the background noise!! Karen got to meet Daniel José Older and it went well even though she was super nervous! Rick definitely gives teacher vibes. One of the highlights of this tour stop was speaking to Stephanie Lurie, Rick's editor! Long live Rick Riordan Presents! Have you seen the promotional video for Chalice of the Gods? If you find it, can you send it to us!? We love how much Daniel and Rick were excited to be there in conversation with each other. A lot of the presentation consisted of information we've already discussed. Can you guess which of the Rick Riordan Presents titles the audience was more excited about? Rick has already seen the cover for the third Serwa Boateng book! It should come as no surprise that the audience went WILD when Rick starting talking about the show. We'll bring you more information from that section after the strike is over. Stephanie Lurie makes an excellent Coach Hedge. Congratulations to everyone who won a chalice!!! Karen got to meet some listeners, and they were AWESOME!! Hopefully Karen AND Kristen can go to the next book tour together. We can't wait for Wrath of the Triple Goddess! Interview with Rick Riordan (00:41:15) Check out our Rick Riordan interview discussing Chalice of the Gods! How does Rick usually plot out his stories? Was this one harder because it fits between two previous series? When did he start working on Wrath of the Triple Goddess? Has anything changed since the last time Rick wrote from Percy Jackson's point of view? Was writing this book different because it was a slice-of-life story? You can definitely feel Mark Oshiro's influence on this book! The spoiler section starts at 49:06. Did Rick ever consider someone else to be the bad guy in this story? Are there any myths that Rick still hasn't written about after all these years? Everyone is a huge fan of Grover and Aryan Simhadri. Rick gives us a little teaser for Wrath of the Triple Goddess! Was it hard writing about Jason? Will we ever get another standalone novel like The Sun and the Star? When might we be getting some updates on all the projects he has going on? Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:54:16) First, let's tackle Chalice of the Gods chapter 4! Percy managed to make it through an entire day of school! We loved the details about Percy trying not to look too weird during swim practice. It's not hard to figure out someone's a god when they can freeze time. There's no way around this: Ganymede is hot. Let's take a trip to Himbo Juice! It's VERY important that we discuss everyone's drink order. There's a very good reason why Ganymede doesn't like eagles. In case anyone doubted it, Annabeth and Grover still have Percy's back. The gig economy is rough on everyone—even gods. Now it's time to discuss Chalice of the Gods chapter 5. Poor Ganymede is triggered. It's a VERY big deal that the chalice is missing. But who could've stolen it? Ganymede has a lot of enemies. Hera is mad that Ganymede has nicer legs than her. But Hebe and Iris used to have the job he has now… What kind of deadline are we working with? Ganymede has a few restrictions for the trio… Thank goodness Grover knows where to start! Feedback (01:18:49) Should this book have included all three quests, or do we like that we're getting a new trilogy? Rachel brings up a question about the timeline of this book and the events of The Last Olympian and Heroes of Olympus. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 104, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods chapters 6 through 8! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #102 jumps into Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan, discussing the first three chapters in detail. We also break down the latest Rick Riordan news, including updates on Survivor season 45, the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes, the Mark of Athena graphic novel, and more. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:23) Happy birthday to Leah Jeffries, who turned 14 on September 25! Roseanne A. Brown is stepping away from Twitter and will primarily be on Instagram. The Mark of Athena graphic novel is officially on sale! Khadijah Khatib has created new covers for the UK edition of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Did you pick up a Barnes & Noble exclusive edition of Chalice of the Gods? Check to see if any pages are missing! We give you a couple of small updates about the sequel(!) to Chalice of the Gods. Introducing Kristen's Korner! She gives us an awesome update about the Survivor season 45 premiere, starring J. Maya! Kristen also talks about the latest updates for the strikes. The writers are officially back to work! You can read about the agreement here. Adam Conover has a great summary of what they won. It's important to note that SAG-AFTRA is still striking, so we can't talk about the show just yet. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:26:40) This week, we're talking about Chalice of the Gods chapters 1-3. Let's kick it off with chapter 1, where Percy can't go a single day without getting mixed up with the Greek gods. We are OBSESSED with the first line of the book. If you were worried about this not feeling like Percy Jackson…it was all in vain! Percy just wants to go to school and do his homework and not have to worry about all this other stuff!! That being said, thank goodness for Alternative High School. It's New Rome University (and Annabeth) or DEATH! We're still fascinated by how the Mist works. The biggest twist of this chapter is that Eudora was actually trying to be helpful. Now we know where the blue jolly ranchers came from. What is a psychoeducational evaluation?? Percy is SO annoyed he has to do NEW quests for the gods. We really want to know more about other demigod schools around the country or the world. Was Eudora more scared of Poseidon or Percy? How was Poseidon eavesdropping on their conversation?? In Chalice of the Gods chapter 2, Percy visits Poseidon, who “helps” him with his recommendation letters. Poseidon's Private Plumbing System™ is classic Rick Riordan. Percy has some pretty eclectic friends. Percy is in debt…life debt. All these rules and stipulations are a little ridiculous, if you ask us. Will Nico have to go through all of this if he wants to get into NRU? Would Thalia, if she ever leaves the Hunters? Will Percy Jackson ever reach 18 years old? We could totally see Percy being a part of Camp Half-Blood even as an adult. What would a second-gen demigod be like, and could we ever get a story about that? Let's talk about Chalice of the Gods chapter 3 because… …PERCABETH IS BACK!!! We loved how Annabeth immediately volunteered to help with Percy's quests. Is it true that Percy never really wanted to date anyone else? Percabeth reminds us of Rick and Becky, and it makes us so happy! THEIR PULSES ALIGN WHEN THEY HOLD HANDS. Is something going on with Annabeth at her school? Annabeth and Paul being BFFs is amazing, and we loved every second. Percy is so reflective and introspective in this book. Kristen reminds Karen that we do not trumpet…we panflute! Grover no longer wears pants. Was Luke not able to transition into the real world? We have SO many good ideas for future Percy Jackson books. Percy's love of family dinner hit us both pretty hard. Sally Jackson is about to be a published author!! How amazing would it be if we got a standalone novel following Grover as the Lord of the Wild?? Feedback (01:29:58) Rachel writes in to give us some feedback about the first three chapters of Chalice of the Gods. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 103, in which we'll discuss the Chicago stop of the Chalice of the Gods book tour before tackling chapters 4 and 5 of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan! Prophecy Radio episode #101 discusses the latest Rick Riordan Presents book, Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem by Roseanne A. Brown. We also break down the latest Rick Riordan news, including updates on Chalice of the Gods, the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes, and more. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:02:44) Don't forget that Serwa Boateng 2 is out in the world now. Read Riordan wants you to meet the god of death, Owuo. If you couldn't make it to any of the Chalice of the Gods book tour stops, be sure to register (FOR FREE) for the Flip event taking place on October 5. If you're going to NYCC, be sure to stop by Disney Publishing to check out what they have on their shelves. Read Riordan also posted an article about Ganymede. He is, in fact, the himbo in question. Could the chalice be used to kill a god!? A mortal stealing the chalice just seems boring. Karen gets very defensive of poor Ganymede. Suddenly, Iris or Hebe stealing the chalice seems too obvious. Speaking of, Read Riordan also wants us to meet Hebe. Hebe Jeebies seems like the Lotus Hotel and Casino all over again. We find out that Hebe is the one with the chickens. As always, we toss out some wild and unhinged theories. ONE of them has to be close to the truth, don't you think!? Kristen also provides us with a quick update on the strikes. The WGA is meeting with the AMPTP as we speak! Thank goodness Drew Barrymore backpedeled. Did you know Dancing with the Stars is a WGA show because we sure didn't! (And neither did Matt Walsh.) We'll bring you more news next week, but things are looking up! Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem by Roseanne A. Brown (00:22:32) It's time to talk about Serwa Boateng 2, so let's kick this off with Karen's review of the book. We're starting off with a spoiler-free section but it will ruin the surprises from the first book if you haven't read that already! What is this book about? Where did we leave Serwa at the end of the last one? How did this one compare to the first Serwa book? It should come as no surprise that we are BIG fans. As always, there are a lot of important themes to discuss. Poor Serwa is dealing with a lot of change in her life right now. It's gotta be tough resisting the urge to drink blood when you're a vampire. Auntie Effie is super different than we expected her to be. Can we blame her for hating the Abomofuo? Okay, let's talk about Serwa's ETERNAL NEMESIS, Declan Amankwah. Was anyone (other than Serwa) surprised she had a little crush on him? We thought their interactions were mostly pretty cute, but Kristen is VERY angry with some of Declan's life choices. The spoiler section starts at 00:50:54. What did we think about Nana Bekoe's backstory? Funtunfunefu-Denkyemfunefu ended up being a delightful part of this book. Serwa's motives might've been duplicitous, but we liked the scenes where she hangs out with Declan. Except when they had to fight off that giant bird. That's a giant NOPE from us. Can the cobra come back for Book 3? Serwa was pretty clever in the way she escaped from the adze. The trampoline chat was so tragic yet so important for SO many reasons. Oh no, it's a trap! Kristen is very angry with Declan, but WAIT! It'll get WORSE! Serwa's punishment is…going back to her parents. Did her parents make the right choice in hiding her true nature from her? We're SO proud of Serwa's maturity in the scene where her friends confront her. Did we guess how Serwa was going to escape into the Underworld? Please mark us down as totally intimidated by Owuo. Did Serwa make the right choice by striking a deal with the god of death? Why was Nana Bekoe able to trick Declan into playing the Midnight Drum? Let's just say we are NOT fans of Serwa's grandmother. Will Nana Bekoe come back for Auntie Effie? We're very, very mad at Declan. But also…maybe we can find some sympathy for him, too? Serwa's friends stand up to her again, and we're not mad at all. Serwa found the perfect solution to the problem of her bargain with Death. I'm sorry, her mother is WHAT!? What can we expect in Serwa Boateng's Guide to Saving the World? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 102, in which we'll tackle the first THREE chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan! Prophecy Radio episode #100 celebrates our huge milestone by looking back on our favorite episodes, guest stars, book discussions, and more. We also break down what Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were doing at the end of Heroes of Olympus in anticipation of the next Percy Jackson book. As always, we also discuss all the latest Rick Riordan news, including the chapter titles for Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:07) Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem is now out in the world, and you can read an excerpt on Read Riordan. Rainbow Crate gives us an update on the second batch of The Sun and the Star books being shipped out. Becky gives us a little update on the Kane Chronicles contract amid the strikes. Did you see the Indonesian cover for Chalice of the Gods? Yes, Jesse Bernstein is returning to voice Percy Jackson in Chalice of the Gods. Did you catch Rick's video about CotG? Have you read the FIRST THREE CHAPTERS OF CHALICE OF THE GODS? We discuss the chapter titles in detail and speculate on the plot for the book. Celebrating 100 episodes of Prophecy Radio (00:30:02) We discuss our favorite episodes of the podcast, particularly over the course of the last 50 episodes. What fun facts have we learned in our nearly two years as a podcast? It's so hard to pick favorite guest stars, but there are a few authors who really stick out in our minds. It's also difficult to pick a favorite Rick Riordan Presents book discussion, but we both had similar answers. What were some of our most surprising moments on the podcast? There's SO much to look forward to in our future. Of course, we can't wait for Chalice of the Gods. We also can't wait to be able to talk about the show, but for now, we're staying #WGASTRONG. Leaving on such a cliffhanger, we can't wait to get back to The Red Pyramid. There are also a couple of Rick Riordan Presents books that we're really looking forward to coming up soon! Thank you for listening and celebrating with us! Chalice of the Gods character catch-up (01:02:49) Chalice of the Gods takes place after the Heroes of Olympus and before Trials of Apollo. Percy Jackson went through A LOT in Heroes of Olympus, like being switched with Jason, losing his Curse of Achilles, and falling into Tartarus. Speaking of Tartarus, there's a part about him disintegrating, and we're wondering if that could be related to one of the CotG chapter titles. Will the trio still be mourning Leo's death, or do they know he's alive now? Annabeth spends a lot of time looking for Percy until Mark of Athena, where she really gets to shine. We love a good ol' Percabeth reunion. Percy and Annabeth totally awaken Gaea with their blood, but everything works out in the end and they'll be at New Rome University soon enough. Grover wasn't in the Heroes of Olympus a lot, so we're excited to see more of him in Chalice of the Gods. Will we see Jason in the next book? We also go over some information about Ganymede, since we know he's an integral part of this story. Could Hebe be the Big Bad of Chalice of the Gods? Did you know we (kind of) saw him in Sea of Monsters? Since we know Iris will also be involved, we get some background information on her as well. Surprisingly, our research also mentioned cupcakes and tea! Did we mention how excited we are for this book!? Feedback (01:25:26) Thank you for sharing your Percy Jackson origin story with us, Ian! And thanks again for writing in to us, Caoimhe! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 101, in which we'll discuss Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem by Roseanne A. Brown! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #99 discusses all the latest Rick Riordan news, including some new information about the Chalice of the Gods book tour and the special guests who will be attending. Plus, we tackle The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid chapter 22, in which Carter gets up close and personal with Leroy, before breaking down our predictions for the rest of the book ahead of us putting the discussion on pause to switch over to Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:43) You'll never guess who's going to be on the next season of Survivor! Or, if you saw our tweet, you already know. You can listen to our interview with J. Maya on Prophecy Radio episode #69. Make sure you watch her intro video and read her blurb on EW. Have you been keeping an eye on the Rick Riordan Presents books on Book Outlet? Have you read The Spirit Glass yet? Don't forget that Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem comes out on September 12! Read Riordan wants you to meet Declan and Auntie Effie. Don't miss out on the in-person event for Serwa Boateng 2 at Loyalty Books. The Sun and the Star has been on the NYT Bestsellers list for HOW many weeks!? The Chalice of the Gods book tour has some very special guests. The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (00:15:37) This week, we're discussing The Red Pyramid chapter 22. It really shouldn't be that easy to get through airport security? The set animal kind of looks like a moose, I guess? Bast wants them to run, but Carter wants to hold his ground, and we're so proud of him. Is this Horus making him more reckless, or is he becoming braver? How awesome was it that he could just pull his sword from thin air? Carter then gets up close and personal with Leroy. Go, chicken-man, go! Leroy gets shoved in a locker, and it's pretty impressive. Time to go to sleep, which means it's time for Prophecy Count #37! There's a giant underground red pyramid in Phoenix, and this does not bode well. We're choosing not to picture Face of Horror. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like Set will underestimate Carter and Sadie again. Is Face of Horror working for another baddie? Can't believe we're leaving off on this chapter while we go read Chalice of Gods… Predictions for The Red Pyramid and beyond! (00:39:55) Will Carter and Sadie's mom ever come back into the story? Will Nephthys be able to convince Set to walk away from his evil machinations? Do we think Amos is going to survive this book? Is it possible that Thoth won't take sides? There will be a greater evil, and we'll just leave it at that. What if Zia ends up going against the House? By the end of this book, could the House accept Carter and Sadie as godlings? And if so, will Desjardins survive this!? We really need to learn more about him and his backstory. What if Bast is the one to make the big sacrifice? Will the kids have trouble controlling the gods inside them? Who is that boy Sadie keeps seeing and what does he want!? What other gods do we want to see? Ra has to show up at SOME point, right? What happens if and when Julius comes back into the picture? Feedback (01:10:07) When chatting with Ian, we learned some info about how publishing the Rick Riordan Presents books work. (Here's the link to The Spirit Glass on Amazon UK.) Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 100, where we'll celebrate our major milestone and do a character catch-up ahead of Chalice of the Gods! Are you going to one of the Chalice of the Gods book tour stops? Read Riordan wants you to meet Flordeliza from The Spirit Glass. You can also read an exclusive excerpt from Roshani Chokshi's latest novel. Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem releases on September 12. Chalice of the Gods also releases on September 26, and we give you an update on our plans for discussing the book. Kristen also gives us an update on the strikes and…Taylor Swift!? The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi (00:13:24) What is this book about? What did we think about the writing, and how does it compare to Aru Shah (the series)? You should definitely pick up The Last Tale of the Flower Bride if you liked this book. There are a lot of relatable themes in this book that we'll be discussing throughout this episode. We love a book with Graci Kim vibes! Okay, let's talk about Corazon Lopez, our hero for this adventure. Althea is awesome, but Emilio? He's the best dad EVER. How does Corazon compare to Aru Shah (the character)? Saso is undoubtedly the standout character in this book. Aunt Tina is super powerful and super suspicious. The Midnight Bridge market sounds like a spooky and amazing place to visit. You could say that Librarian Bulosan is a bit entian in nature. And then there's Leo (not that Leo!), who is super cute but definitely has some secrets of his own. Lastly, we have Flordeliza, who we'll have to talk more about later. Oh, and how could we forget to talk about the House!? The spoiler section starts at 00:38:57. Let's kick off this part by talking about the Library of Mirrors. Did you catch that Aru Shah reference? So we can blame mirrors for stealing our socks!? We get a proper quest for this adventure, and all seems right with the world. First stop? Visiting Mushu Tamatoa Bakunawa. We really loved how Corazon decided what was a fair trade for his blessing. Um, the manananggal is terrifying but also kind of cool? Next up, we visit the diwata and meet the Marias. The mystery around Leo deepens! Did the Marias purposefully send Corazon into danger, and were their intentions nefarious? Kristen totally knew that Corazon's dress was a clue to what was going on. We backtrack a little bit to talk about Flordeliza's backstory. Padre Francisco was, hands down, the worst person in this book. Did you guess the Leo reveal!? Okay, let's talk about the end of this book now. Aunt Tina is WHO!? The House ended up being so much more important than we thought. Ohhhhh, that's how the soul key was formed. This book really is about grief and acceptance. Saso just needs something to fight against! Would we like a sequel to this story? The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (01:20:14) This week, we're reading The Red Pyramid chapter 21. You do NOT want to mess with the Set animal. How does Carter's falcon eyesight work and what does it mean? Is there something to the fact that Carter's abilities are more physical? What do we think about Set and Set's animal being described as evil? Cats always land on their feet, and so do cat goddesses! It's kind of cool there are consequences to turning into birds too often. We love seeing the growth between Carter and Sadie! There's lots of aunts in this week's discussion! Being able to store stuff in the Duat seems highly convenient! Did you remember the bit about the locker from the beginning of the book? This was a well-balanced chapter! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 99, where we'll discuss The Red Pyramid chapter 22 before doing some predictions for the rest of the book! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #97 does a Deep Dive of the Egyptian god Horus. We also catch you up on all the latest Rick Riordan news, including some information about a couple characters we'll meet in The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi, as well as the latest from the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes. This week, we also tackle The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid chapter 20, where we get to meet the beautiful goddess Nut. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:05) You should definitely check out this week's episode of Seaweed Brain Podcast. Don't forget to check the CBCC Etsy store for some signed John Rocco prints. Roseanne A. Brown's A Song of Wraiths and Ruin made Paste Magazine's list of 10 of the best YA fantasies of all time. Read Riordan wants us to meet both Leo and Aunt Tina from The Spirit Glass. We discuss a now-deleted tweet from @UpdatesPercy about how the cancellation of The Spiderwick Chronicles and Disney+ shouldn't affect the Percy Jackson show. We also give you the latest from the WGA regarding the August 22 negotiations. Deadline also reports on AMPTP's release of the August 11 proposal. The Hollywood Reporter also reports that AMPTP hired a new crisis PR firm. Deep Dive: Horus (00:22:37) There were a lot of different versions of Horus, and he had a lot of different names! This makes sense because Ancient Egypt lasted about twice as long as Ancient Greece. You might've already known he was the falcon god, but do you know which of his eyes represents the moon and which represents the sun? Do you know, specifically, what kind of falcon Horus turns into? The family dynamics for any god will be super interesting! How was Horus conceived? We really earn our PG-13 rating with our discussion of Set and Horus' battle for dominance. Do you know what the Egyptians considered the sixth sense? Even if you don't know much about Egyptian mythology, you've probably seen the eye of Horus once or twice in your life. Again: The family dynamics of gods are SUPER WEIRD. Do you know which god the Greeks associated with Horus? Horus was a BIG deal for the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. And his fight with Set was extremely symbolic. The Festival of Victory was kind of barbaric. Set has a lot of sacred and symbolic animals. Like, A LOT. Sources: Britannica.com EgyptianMuseum.org BeliefMap.org Medium.com Study.com Wikipedia.org The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (00:42:45) This week, we discuss The Red Pyramid chapter 20. Why was Sadie able to change the shape of her ba? And why is everyone a chicken!? Why does this mysterious boy only visit Sadie? Shame on everyone who didn't remind Karen about the Prophecy Count! Nut looks awesome, and she reminds us of another goddess we saw recently. Would you try sahlab? What kind of relationship do Nut and Isis have? For a goddess, nut is kind of chill, which is a relief considering Sadie's…personality quirks. We get into a philosophical discussion about chaos and order. Why couldn't Nut just TELL Sadie what happened when she descended to earth? Will Set ever become an ally? We got so much information in this chapter! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 98, where we'll discuss The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi before jumping into The Red Pyramid chapter 21! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #96 celebrates Percy Jackson's birthday with some great fanart, awesome recipes, and a few fun quizzes. How did you celebrate!? We also catch you up on all the latest Rick Riordan news, including some great articles that hint at what's to come in Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem, The Spirit Glass, and even Chalice of the Gods. This week, we also tackle The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid chapter 19 and get to experience a picnic in the sky. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:04) We remind you that we won't be discussing any news about the forthcoming Disney+ show until the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes are over. Happy birthday, Dior Goodjohn! It's time to meet Funtunfunefu-Denkyemfunefu from Serwa Boateng's Guide to Witchcraft and Mayhem by Roseanne A. Brown. And not to be left out, we also talk about Corazon from the upcoming The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi. Read Riordan also had a nice little check-in with the goddess Iris, and we got some cool insight into what will happen in Chalice of the Gods. We also now have a release date for the Lightning Thief collector's edition. Lastly, we talk about AI and art after seeing a tweet on the topic from Victo Ngai. Happy birthday, Percy Jackson! (00:20:13) You can make some awesome Percy Jackson-inspired cupcakes like we did! We also have some other ideas for things you can bake, like these cookies or your own ambrosia/nectar. Have you listened to the Percy Jackson musical soundtrack lately? The Percy Jackson coloring book is always a good way to pass the time. There are so many things you can throw on in the background while you color, like, oh, a certain podcast? Or maybe you want to listen the audiobooks! Kristen recommends them. If you can travel, you should totally do a Percy Jackson tour of NYC. It's completely normal to expect presents for someone else's birthday, right? We also go through some of the best artwork we saw on Percy Jackson's birthday, like this polaroid and cute little Nico/Percy scene from Soia. Dududrigs drew a picture of Percy attending Blue Beetle for his birthday. And even the Empire State Building got in on the action. Thanks to Camp Half-Blood Updates, we saw this beautiful illustration of older and younger Percy from @starsarekind. Hellredsky also drew a picture of Percy covered in icing. And then there was this beautiful illustration of the trio from @182tweets. We finish up Percy's birthday by taking a couple of quizzes. Based on your work habits, which god are you descended from? Based on your college experience, which demigod are you? The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (01:04:48) This week, we're discussing The Red Pyramid chapter 19. It's pretty cool that the entirety of the Louvre is a portal. Carter lost his sword, and this is such a foreign concept to us. If you already lost your sword, WHY WOULD YOU THROW YOUR WAND? Bast very helpfully throws the kids through the portal. We discuss the fact that the Washington Monument is the default portal in the U.S. Why can't anyone read Thoth's book? Is it because it's too dangerous? For some reason Bast can't understand why the kids prefer grilled cheese over Friskies. Did you know what the shape of an obelisk represented? Bast finally tells us more about her time being trapped in the obelisk, and honestly, it sounds horrible. Do we really think the monster didn't escape? Sadie finally tells Carter about what Iskandar said. If their parents weren't trying to release Bast, what were they trying to do!? We love Big Brother Carter. Feedback (01:25:46) Ian shares how he celebrated Percy's birthday with his kids. Robert makes us crave some blue smoothies. And Rachel shows off her awesome art skills! Thank you, Sarwat, for listening to our discussion of your book and being so supportive of the podcast! JustAMediaGuy wants an RRP crossover as badly as we do. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 97, where we'll do a Deep Dive on Horus before jumping into The Red Pyramid chapter 20! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #95 asks which Rick Riordan Presents characters would make for the best team-ups before catching you up on all the latest Rick Riordan news, like who Chalice of the Gods is dedicated to and what a few of our favorite campers are up to this summer. This week, we also tackle The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid chapter 18 and get a firsthand look at how formidable fruit bats can truly be. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:49) Did you see who Rick dedicated Chalice of the Gods to? If you're in a book burnout, short stories and novellas are a good place to get you back into the swing of it! We read through a couple of the blurbs from Read Riordan's Camp Half-Blood middle of summer check-in article. Will Solace has a special set of skills… The world is so weird, the existence of Camp Half-Blood is the least of our worries these days. What is Bob the Titan up to now? Can you willfully ignore Rachel's prophecies?? Best Rick Riordan Presents team-ups (00:13:45) We were inspired to do this episode based on Kristen's idea to pair Annabeth, Chela, and Belet together for an adventure. And let's not forget the chaos that would ensue between the Arrow of Dodona, Jack/the Sword of Summer, and Kasusu. There are plenty of characters who are into science and must face a mythological monster. Dead Brothers Club unite! There are two stories that deal in Korean mythology, and so we can't pass up that opportunity. Karen mentioned this before, but Sik and Samirah could end up being such a great duo. Would Samirah and Belet become best friends? Probably. We start thinking of monsters who would make great team-ups. Let's not forget about the parents!! Some of our listeners write in with their own pairings. The Red Pyramid discussion (00:49:18) This week, we're discussing The Red Pyramid chapter 18. It's a rainy day in Paris, but you know, it's still Paris. Being in Paris is actually the best place they ever could've ended up. We learn more about godlings and what happened in the museum and how the amulets work. Who is hosting Set!? This is the chapter with all the answers, finally, because we learn what happened to their mom. Time to break into Desjardins' house! Why couldn't Sadie turn back into a human? We learn a little bit more about Desjardins and how young he is…for a magician. It's time to go, but the fruit bats don't want them to leave. Where can they go to escape a second time? We can't wait for a Sadie chapter to learn more about her relationship with Isis. Feedback (01:18:17) Dr. Gina writes in to say how much she loved our interview with Sarwat Chadda! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 96, where we'll celebrate Percy Jackson's birthday before jumping into The Red Pyramid chapter 19! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #94 discusses Fury of the Dragon Goddess by Sarwat Chadda before catching you up on all the latest Rick Riordan news, including some fun news from several different Rick Riordan Presents authors. Oh, and we give you a quick update on the WGA/SAG strikes and how they'll affect the podcast moving forward. This week, we pause our discussion of The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid in order to chat with Sarwat Chadda about his latest release. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:01:28) Read Riordan did a spotlight on up-and-coming Camp Half-Blood Campers and this seems to be mostly focused on characters from The Trials of Apollo. Fury of the Dragon Goddess by Sarwat Chadda is now officially out in the world! Read a Fury of the Deagon Goddess excerpt on Read Riordan. Kristen tells us about her experience attending the Fury of the Dragon Goddess virtual tour that Sarwat did with Books of Wonder. Did you know Kwame Mbalia is writing a short story for the Star Wars anthology From a Certain Point of View? Mark Oshiro will be at the National Book Festival on August 12. Make sure you check out Daniel José Older's new podcast Inkbottle. We also talk about some SAG-AFTRA updates that will affect the podcast. Fury of the Dragon Goddess by Sarwat Chadda (00:11:16) At long last, it's time to talk about Fury of the Dragon Goddess, the second book in the Adventures of Sik Aziz series. What is this book about? How did we feel about this book compared to the last one? What was it like reading about Sik and the others being in London instead of NYC? There are a lot of themes shared between these two books, but there are also some specific to Dragon Goddess. It's so interesting that we're reading this book at the same time we're talking about The Red Pyramid! Sik is still not a warrior, and we LOVE that about him. We're so happy he got to travel this time around…even if it all went horribly wrong. Daoud is, like, super famous now. We loved that this didn't solve all his problems, and we still got to see him (and his relationship with Sik) grow over the course of the book. Is Belet no longer looking for her mother? What's the deal with this tablet? Did we like that this book dealt a lot with (female) rage? Have you read “The Loneliest Demon” from Cursed Carnivals and Other Calamities? Who is Rabisu and why is she so great? Why does she want to kill Belet so badly, and why can't she? Everyone likes a pigeon sandwich…right? Wait, Rabisu has been WHERE? Who's Dumuzi, and how did he get with Ishtar? He might not be the greatest dad, but he seemed like a pretty good person. Lugal, on the other hand, seems to be a lot more complicated. And if you're looking for another character to compare him to, maybe try…Ultron. The spoiler section starts at 00:49:37. Let's talk about that black market party and how utterly racist those old ladies were. What did we think of Daoud's reaction to it all? Did we believe Mo was really back when we first saw him again? The repercussions of this mistake are huge, and Lugal just makes it worse. And you thought Belet was full of rage before… Sik's changes happen slowly, but some of them are pretty cool. Okay, we have to talk about the asylum scene. What's Lugal's ultimate purpose? During that final confrontation, Sik wins in his own way. We thought we lost Mo all over again, but Sik wasn't gonna let that happen. How does this story end, and what could possibly be next? Interview with Sarwat Chadda (01:19:05) We're so excited to talk about Fury of the Dragon Goddess with Sarwat Chadda!! How does he get into (and stay in) the mood to write? Any go-to snacks? Sarwat gives us a great breakdown of what inspired this story. How did he balance the horror in this book for his audience? Which came first, this book or the short story with Rabisu? Sarwat talks a little bit about having Fury of the Dragon Goddess take place in London. And yes, he definitely remembers the Kane Chronicles! He also gives us a fantastic answer regarding the topic of repatriation. What did he want to accomplish with a character like Lugal? Can rage ever be used as a force for good? What makes Daoud so compelling? It's time to talk about those Percy Jackson references! Who would Sarwat choose from Greek mythology to have as a godly parent? Which Rick Riordan Presents book would he love to live inside? Any book recommendations for us? Has Sarwat thought about what comes next after Fury of the Dragon Goddess? You'll never guess how many more projects he has coming up! Thank you for talking with us, Sarwat! It was a pleasure. Feedback (02:25:58) We hear from a couple listeners about their experience reading Fury of the Dragon Goddess. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 95, in which we'll discuss which Rick Riordan Presents characters would make for the best team-ups, before jumping into The Red Pyramid chapter 18! Prophecy Radio episode #93 discusses City of the Plague God by Sarwat Chadda ahead of the sequel's release, Fury of the Dragon Goddess before catching you up on all the latest Rick Riordan news, including what sort of Percy Jackson and the Olympians content we got from San Diego Comic-Con 2023. This week, we're also talking about The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid by tackling chapter 17, in which the Kanes end up in Paris and run into an old friend. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:02:32) We're kicking off this week's news and updated by talking about SDCC. We had some boots on the ground at the convention and got a peek at what the campers were handing out. Next up, we talk in-depth about the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians character posters. Oh yeah, and there was even a flash mob! Don't forget that Fury of the Dragon Goddess comes out on August 1! Books of Wonder is hosting a virtual tour, and it's gonna be awesome. Read Riordan also posted an article about Lugal, the god of insanity. On June 27, Rick wrote a blog post talking about the Chalice of the Gods book tour. We go through all of the tour stops, plus the Boston Book Festival happening in October. Can Rick talk about the show on tour? We also think he'll be talking about his next project. Oh, and Karen will be at another stop! We also discuss whether we'll stop our The Red Pyramid discussion to talk about Chalice of the Gods. Don't forget to check out this Bookseller interview. City of the Plague God by Sarwat Chadda (00:23:38) Talking about this book has been a long time coming, and we're so glad to finally discuss it on the podcast! What's this book about? We talk about our overall feelings for the book and the writing. It's wild to think this was written before COVID. But don't worry, this book won't remind you too much of the pandemic. It's well worth reading the Foreword, if only to see what it was like to have Rick as a teacher. This book teaches us a lot about racism, being a hero, dealing with grief, and fighting for your home. It seems only right to kick off the character section by talking about Sikander Aziz. All work and no play makes Sik a tired boy. There's so much to love about Sik, but especially his compassion for other people. We draw some parallels between Sik and Samirah/Magnus Chase. Daoud seems only skin-deep at first glance, but we both loved him from the beginning. We also loved Belet, who has a killer roundhouse kick. She's so intense, but her and Sik balance each other out perfectly. SO. MANY. CATS. Kasusu is an amazing sword, and it reminds us a lot of another magical weapon from one of Rick's books. What's it like being both the goddess of love AND war? Ishtar is both amazing and terrifying. And then there's Nergal. Sure, he's the antagonist in this book, but he's also a necessary balance to the circle of life. The spoiler section starts at 01:04:05. If you're used to handling New Yorkers in the morning, you can definitely take on a pack of demons. SURPRISE, Sikander is immortal. We're a little smitten with Gilgamesh, not gonna lie. How do you accidentally end up in the afterlife? By taking the wrong train, of course. The scenes between Sik and Mo were incredible but also heartbreaking. THE BAGHDAD SAUCE. It wasn't easy to get the flower that grants immortality, but they did it. We learn something amazing about Mo and Daoud. Nergal is defeated in the most spectacular way. The end of the book gives us some interesting final moments between Sik and Daoud, his family, and even Belet. We're so happy City of the Plague God gets a sequel in Fury of the Dragon Goddess. It's fun to read the author's note, and Sarwat has some wonderful things to tell us about this book and about Rick Riordan. Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (01:35:18) This week, we're discussing The Red Pyramid chapter 17! Carter becomes a chicken again, and we talk about what this dream could mean. Carter gets in trouble with Zia, but it informs us a lot about her AND about him. Gods, her story is tragic, and now we're sad. Did someone steal Zia's memories? It's nice that Carter still remembers his mom. Are Carter and Zia going on a date!? Okay, it's time to leave and go to…Paris!? Thank the gods for Bast. Feedback (01:54:08) We got some wonderful mentions on Threads, and several people remind us how much they miss our old podcast, Book Hype. Did you know you can leave reviews for podcasts on Audible!? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 94, in which we'll discuss Fury of the Dragon Goddess by Sarwat Chadda, before jumping into an interview with the man himself! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #92 catches you up on all the latest Rick Riordan news, from upcoming Rick Riordan Presents books like Fury of the Dragon Goddess to the current WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes and what they mean for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series on Disney+. This week, we're also talking about The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid by tackling chapter 16, in which Zia embraces the singed-eyebrow look. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:26) Happy birthday, Annabeth Chase! Fury of the Dragon Goddess by Sarwat Chadda releases on August 1. Pre-order it here. Make sure you check out the virtual launch event for the book! Read Riordan has an article so you can refresh your memory on City of the Plague God. If you want play D&D with Sarwat Chadda, you can learn all the details here. You can also catch up with Daoud and meet Dumuzi, thanks to Read Riordan. Sarwat had a lot of wonderful things to say about being a part of the Rick Riordan Presents family. The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi got a starred review from Publisher's Weekly. Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro share their favorite recent reads. Be sure to check out the Boston Book Festival, where Rick will be a keynote speaker this year. Read Riordan is hitting it out of the park with this Chalice of the Gods articles, including the one about the New Rome University course guide. We have SO. MANY. IDEAS. Would you want John Rocco to do a special edition cover for Chalice of the Gods so it could match your original series? Someone needs to update this Percy Jackson guide to the Met Museum. Don't expect to see Nico and Bianca in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1. We're so happy Glynn Turman got to pick the horse he's working with on the show. Let's talk about Percy Jackson at San Diego Comic-Con 2023. Did you catch the new Percy Jackson poster and SDCC bag? Looks like there's a chance of Percy Jackson on Saturday. We get to see a slightly new image of the trio. And here's a picture of the Disney Books poster at SDCC 2023. Kristen breaks down new information about the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, plus what it means for us at the podcast. Huge thank you to Mel for asking us to go into detail about all of this! You can find the SAG-AFTRA strike rules on Variety. The biggest one to keep in mind is that if the studio is asking you to promote something, DON'T DO IT. Yes, the podcast will keep covering all the Percy Jackson and the Olympians news because we are just fans talking about what we love. What's the future of these strikes? D.B. Woodside had some really important information to share about why SAG is striking. What does all this mean for Percy Jackson and the Olympians? Why isn't Rick saying much about the show? What projects are on hold and which ones can he still work on? Why wasn't Rick Riordan at Comic-Con? We'll keep you updated with more information once it becomes available! Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (01:08:50) This week, we're reading The Red Pyramid chapter 16. Put us down for not wanting to be woken up the way Zia wakes Sadie. Why didn't Carter sleep well? How do we get some bottled Thoth Water? That tongue tattoo was pretty cool. Either do what Zia tells you to…or die. What are the magicians' specialties and which can we unanimously agree is a no-go for us? There are some really great moments while Carter and Sadie learn to bring hierglyphs to life with magic. We're so happy we learned about Luxor/Thebes in our last episode. How strong is Zia, exactly? It's time to duel, and it definitely does not go according to plan. We learn a little bit more about the Kanes' familial background. Iskandar is dead, and even though we saw this coming, it's still sad. It also spells major trouble for the Kanes. Zia's willing to give them a five-minute head start, and that's about as good as it's going to get. Feedback (01:28:42) Tim writes in with a little What If… for The Last Olympian. Caoimhe also catches us up on her reactions to the last few episodes and gives us a great idea for a future one. It seems Bobbi is as big of a fan of Hapshetsut as we are. Prophecy Radio episode #91 provides you with a brief history lesson on some of the more well-known monuments found across Egypt, since several of them have been mentioned in The Red Pyramid so far. This week, we're skipping the news, but we'll be back with more in the next episode. We also return to The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid by tackling chapter 15, in which Osiris has the worst birthday of his life. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. History Lesson: 5 Egyptian Monuments You Should Know (00:01:03) We're talking about five awesome monuments you should know about from Egyptian history. And, of course, we have to start with the Great Pyramid of Giza. Believe it or not, Khufu is NOT just a baboon. English just doesn't phlegm as well as other languages. It's pretty impressive that a PYRAMID was the largest man-made structure for such a long time. You can't talk about the Great Pyramid without mentioning in the Sphinx! Are there differences between the Greek and Egyptian sphinxes? It's important to acknowledge the dark history behind a lot of historical monuments. Let's travel to Karnak next. Have you heard of this one before? It has so much historical significance, it's wild! If you haven't heard of Luxor, you've probably heard of Thebes. Do you remember talking about Aten before? There's so much duality when it comes to the gods. Wait, HOW many pharaohs contributed to Karnak? There's a reason why we're talking about Hatshepsut and that reason is because she's awesome. What's a mortuary temple and what purpose does it serve? Okay, it would be a little cool to have a cult (not THAT kind of cult). Let's learn a little more about Hatshepsut because she is FASCINATING. We'd love to learn more about her through a queer lens. Let's learn more about Luxor/Thebes. Instead of being dedicated to a specific god or pharaoh, it was dedicated to kingship in general. Everyone wanted to say they were crowned here, even if they never made it that far (looking at you, Alex). The chapel inside changed a lot over time, for better or worse. You've probably heard of the Valley of the Kings, but do you know its official name? We're learning so many new words this week! The Valley of the Monkeys is just as interesting, too! If you're wondering, yes, this is where King Tut is buried. Did you enjoy this History Lesson? Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (00:34:54) This week, we're tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 15. Cobras wandering the halls? NBD. The grass is always greener on the other side! Sadie's attitude about not fitting in is much healthier than ours was as kids. Imagine reliving a GOD'S memory!? It's definitely weird that Isis looks like Sadie's mom. C'mon, Osiris, you should know better than to trust Set! Is this the origin of the sarcophagus? When do you think we should do a Deep Dive on Set? No big deal, but Sadie almost died. Unfortunately, Osiris DID die, but it kind of worked out for him. The relationships between gods is always gonna be weird. Being the host for a god sounds hazardous to your health. Do we have any guesses as to who the mysterious kid was? Is Iskandar dying!? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 92, in which we'll catch you up on all the latest Riordanverse news, and then read The Red Pyramid chapter 16! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #90 catches you up on all the latest news within the Riordanverse, including some Fury of the Dragon Goddess characters, as well as a possible location for one of the stops on the Chalice of the Gods book tour. Stay tuned for more information as we come across it! We also return to The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid by tackling chapter 14, in which a French guy almost kills the Kane siblings. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News & Updates (00:02:44) Happy birthday, Jason Grace! Oh—wait. Fury of the Dragon Goddess comes out on August 1. Are you ready for Rabisu and Lugal? Have you checked out Sarwat Chadda's newly designed website? Did you know you can get signed copies of Ballad & Dagger and Last Canto of the Dead from Daniel José Older's shop? Read Riordan wrote an article for incoming freshman at New Rome University. Are you following Orpheus Collar on Instagram? We know who will be the showrunner for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Rick will be in Seattle for the Chalice of the Gods book tour. Becky has a controversial opinion about the Percy Jackson movies. Make sure you submit a question to the BBC for Rick to answer! Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (00:23:26) This week, we're tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 14. This is a classic Rick Riordan chapter title. It's so hard not to picture Hannibal Lecter now. The Hall of Ages is gorgeous, and we can't wait to see it on screen! We're really impressed with the visual timeline of Egypt. It's time to meet the Chief Lector and the French guy. HOW old is the Chief Lector!? Can Iskandar read Carter's mind? Why is Desjardins so weird!? He's giving…Cornelius Fudge. And while we're at it, why is it SO bad to consort with gods!? Fly or die! Or something like that. Feedback (00:46:40) Nicolaas agrees he isn't as familiar with Egyptian mythology as he is with Greek mythology. Thank you, Bobbi, for sending pictures of your kitties and your bunny! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 91, in which we'll discuss some of the major Egyptian monuments you should know about, and then read The Red Pyramid chapter 15! Prophecy Radio episode #89 takes a look at the documentary The Legend of Glynn Turman, starring the man who will be Chiron in Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. This week, we're skipping the news, but we'll be back to catch up in the next episode. We also return to The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid by tackling chapter 13, in which Carter goes forth, like a good king. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. The Legend of Glynn Turman (00:04:34) You can watch The Legend of Glynn Turman for free on Tubi. This documentary was more like an extended interview, but if you like film and theater history, then we highly recommend watching it. What was Glynn's childhood like? It all goes back to A Raisin in the Sun. He was surrounded by so many important people who changed the course of Hollywood forever. Can you imagine if Glynn had become an aviations engineer instead? Growing up in New York City during that time definitely led to some life experience. His time at the High School of Performing Arts was very informative for him and his career. And while not all of his experiences were good, they turned him into the person he is today. Let's talk about some career highlights because there are A LOT of them. It seems like Glynn Turman was a witness to history given the people he was surrounded with and the experiences he took part in. Part of it is luck, sure, but his tenacity played a huge role, too. Not to mention that he's wildly talented. Now we have an urge to go back and watch some of his projects. But how does he remember so many stories!? It was nice to hear him be honest about his low points because, hey, that's reality. We loved Glynn's love of horses and Black Western history. Movies like Buffalo Soldiers have always been important to him. We have some other random thoughts like YOUNG JAMES EARL JONES and GREMLINS! What would it have been like if Glynn had been Han Solo? He is the perfect person to play Chiron, and we talk about all the reasons why. Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (00:51:07) This week, we're discussing The Red Pyramid chapter 13! Does Carter have a little crush on Zia? It's funny that they have to deal with cooldowns in this universe. Sadie is like a cat—tell her not to do something, and she's gonna do it. All while making uncomfortable eye contact. Are female magicians more powerful? Is Carter hardwired for battle just like Percy? What is a ba and does it always have to look like a giant bird? Asking for a friend. Did you know the origins of the Sorcerer's Apprentice? Gonna pass on meeting a tiger fish, tbh. WHY WOULDN'T YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE MAGIC PENGUINS? Do you know how much of Egypt's ruins we've actually uncovered? Because it's not a whole lot. Time to meet Hannibal Lector the Chief Lector Why are there so few children? Why, Zia!? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 90, in which we'll discuss the news, and then read The Red Pyramid chapter 14! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #88 gets back to Egyptian mythology by doing a Deep Dive on everyone's favorite cat goddess, Bast. Plus, we tackle all the latest Riordanverse news, including the possibility that we could be getting a Chalice of the Gods sequel. This week, we also return to The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid by tackling chapter 12 and facing off with the scorpion deity Serqet. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and updates (00:01:30) Fury of the Dragon Goddess by Sarwat Chadda got a Kirkus starred review! Read Riordan did a cute interview with Graci Kim. They also asked, “Who is the most powerful god or goddess in ther Riordanverse?“ DID YOU REMEMBER THAT THE NEW THE SUN AND THE STAR COVER GLOWS IN THE DARK BECAUSE WE DID NOT. Keep an eye on Rainbow Crate's socials for a possible reprint of The Sun and the Star with the new cover. The UK cover for Chalice of the Gods is spectacular, and we once again have to give major props to Khadijah Khatib. You can pre-order the exclusive edition from Waterstones. And if you want to see the original painting of the cover you can go to Khadi's Twitter. And we might've figured out what the mysterious book Rick is working on is. Variety reports that Disney and several other studios will not host panels at SDCC this year. Becky says Disney will still have a presence at the con, however. She also says she doesn't know anything about D23 yet. Deep Dive: Bast (00:17:04) We're super excited to talk about Bast, and—by association—Callie! We're already starting off on rough footing because we don't actually know the origins of her name. It makes a lot of sense that Bast is associated with Artemis. Weirdly enough, she started off as a lioness goddess of the SUN, not the moon. She's got some pretty recognizable family members. Bast has a lot of important roles in Egyptian society, which explains why she was so popular. Shoutout to Brendan Fraser in The Mummy! There seems to be some connection between Bast and alabaster. What symbols are usually associated with her? We didn't expect to see the word aegis again! Her transformation from a lion goddess to a domesticated cat goddess is super interesting. Can we not name deadly asteroids after the enemies of the sun god? Ancient Egyptians really, REALLY loved cats. Bubastis is such a cool name for a city, and it sounds like it was a fun place to hang out, too. Is it weird that an important component to Bast's temples was water? Karen wants more information on the festivals of Bast because they sound amazing. It makes so much sense that Bast is the first deity we really get to know in The Red Pyramid. Will she end up fighting Apophis? We hope Bast sticks around for all three books! Sources: Wikipedia | WorldHistory.org Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (00:41:15) This week, we're discussing The Red Pyramid chapter 12! Serqet is, like, SUPER creepy…but also a little awesome? Why is Sadie so drawn to help Zia, who is clearly holding her own just fine? How did Sadie know about the Seven Ribbons of Hathor? Regardless, Zia must be pretty powerful to be able to wield them. We wonder if Sadie's powers come from her mother and if it's a female lineage kind of thing. We already know who we want to play Bast in the Red Pyramid Netflix film. Kristen tries to make scorpions even scarier than they already are. Feedback (00:57:32) Thank you, Rachel, for sharing a picture of your cat! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 89, in which we'll discuss The Legend of Glynn Turman, and then read The Red Pyramid chapter 13! Prophecy Radio episode #87 discusses Last Canto of the Dead, the final book in Daniel José Older's Outlaw Saints duology. Plus, we tackle all the latest Riordanverse news, including several new covers for upcoming Rick Riordan Presents books. Instead of our usual chapter discussion of The Red Pyramid, we had an enlightening chat with Daniel about developing this book, whether he'd ever revisit this world, and what's coming next. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and updates (00:02:42) Happy birthday to Charlie Bushnell, who turned 19 on June 17. We totally forgot to mention the Winston Chu vs. the Wingmeisters cover reveal last week, so we made sure to talk about it this week. There was also a SECOND cover reveal this week for It Waits in the Forest by Sarah Dass. Read Riordan gave us the demigod's guide to a successful Father's Day. If you're going to the ALA conference in Chicago where Rick and Mark will be talking about The Sun and the Star, let us know! Can you believe Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been on the NYT bestsellers list for 13 years? Did you see our copy of TSATS with Alessia Trunfio's cover? Kristen gets to see the book for the first time in person, live on air! Will you grab a copy of the Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief deluxe edition? We discuss whether Rick will be signing copies of this one. According to Becky, Rick is currently under contract for another book that has nothing to do with Irish mythology and is definitely not Chalice of the Gods. Last Canto of the Dead by Daniel José Older (00:29:59) Listen to Prophecy Radio episode #33 for a refresher on Ballad & Dagger and our first interview with Daniel. What is this book about? Read Karen's Last Canto of the Dead book review. This book kicks off with some serious chaos, but it also gives us a good overview of San Madrigal. Did this book give off different vibes from the first one? Is Tolo our…ideal book boyfriend? But let's not forget about Tams, who is also wonderful. What was it like being inside Chela's head this time around? The spoiler section for Last Canto starts at 00:42:42. What did we think about Mateo and Chela being separated for the majority of this book? Sometimes you gotta draw a line in the sand and never, ever, ever cross it. Mateo and his father have warring ideologies, and this thread throughout the book was one of the highlights for us. When is the right time to forgive someone? When is the right time to forget what someone has done to you? It was so powerful to see Mateo become such an effective leader in this book. Surprise, surprise: Mimi Baracasa is still alive and has a very interesting army at her fingertips. We are big, big fans of Odé Kan. What was going on with those scars on Chela's arms? We're not feeling great about the color orange all of a sudden. How does all this immortality business work? Would we read more books set in this world? Interview with Daniel José Older (01:20:23) Read along with our Daniel José Older interview on Subjectify Media. Are there any reactions to this book that have stood our to him the most? We also discuss the cover for Last Canto of the Dead and how it compares to the first. Was the worldbuilding in this book easier since some of it had already been established in Ballad & Dagger? We also talked about the process of coming up with the title. What about keeping the momentum going between books, especially given they take place one second apart? The spoiler section of our Daniel José Older interview starts at 01:35:03. We want to know…how hard was it separating Mateo and Chela? What was it like finding Chela's voice in this book? Let's talk about the political undertones of Last Canto. As well as Mateo's relationship with his father. It's time to talk about Odé Kan! Would Daniel revisit the Outlaw Saints world again in the future? And does he ever think about what Mateo and Chela have gotten up to since the end of the book? We also once again talk about defining success for yourself as a creative person. What else is Daniel working on right now? Check out Daniel's website and subscribe to his Substack. After the interview, we discuss a few of Daniel's answers. Feedback (02:14:57) @AMediaGuy19 wrote in to tell us he needs some Last Canto art of Chela and Mateo's midnight meetings, and we couldn't agree more! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 88, in which we'll do a Deep Dive on Bast, and then read The Red Pyramid chapter 12! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #86 discusses The Last Fallen Realm, the final book in Graci Kim's Gifted Clans series based on Korean mythology and folklore. Plus, we tackle all the latest Riordanverse news, including Rick and Becky's birthaversary. Instead of our usual chapter discussion of The Red Pyramid, we have a fun chat with Graci Kim about her series, now that it's done, and what's coming up next for her. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and updates (00:00:59) A very happy birthaversary to Rick and Becky, who celebrated their 59th birthday and their 38th year of marriage on June 5. Rick even wrote a blog post about it, which included some pretty fantastic pictures. Congratulations to Charlie Bushnell, who just graduated high school! Brave + Kind Books is re-streaming the Atlanta The Sun and the Star event on June 12 at 5pm ET. There are still signed book available, and they'll even ship internationally! We also announce the countries of the people who won our international giveaway! This Hollywood Reporter interview doesn't have a lot of new info, but it's still nice hearing Rick talk so passionately about combating the racism Leah has experienced since her casting. Read Riordan has a whole article on the bulgae from The Last Fallen Realm. If you missed the Last Fallen Realm virtual event from Mysterious Galaxy, you can watch it on YouTube and even order a copy of the book with a signed bookplate! Karen goes through some of the highlights from the event in case you don't have time to watch the whole thing yourself! The Last Fallen Realm by Graci Kim (00:16:25) What is this book about? We give you a very short synopsis. Read Karen's Last Fallen Realm book review! This book takes place in Vegas! Have we ever been there? Reality is collapsing, and even though it's cool to see the Godrealm's version of our stores, it's not a good thing! People are so skeptical, they didn't think any of what was happening was actually real. Everyone is back for this book, and it was a lot of characters to keep track of! Did anyone else vibe something more between Dahl and Taeyo? We really love how Riley's parents adopted Dahl into the family. We get to meet the other goddesses in this book, and they're pretty interesting! Do we have a favorite? We're kicking off the spoiler section at 00:31:19. What did we think of the Water Dragon Goddess? And we finally get some answers about Hattie! It was really beautiful seeing Hattie support Riley and help her combat her imposter syndrome. We would TOTALLY have Moon Bunny ears if we could. The mini golf tournament had total Alice in Wonderland vibes. How useful would it be if we could fold space?? We absolutely loved the bulgae and what the second trial ended up being. If you've watched The Good Place, you've heard of the Trolley Problem. Emmett and Riley finally admit how they feel about each other. We feel so BETRAYED by what the Mayor did in this book. Let's take a moment to pour one out for Dahl. Did anyone see that Taggy reveal coming? Okay, it's time to talk about the ending of The Last Fallen Realm. Kristen has an alternate ending—what do you think!? We don't like being sad, but that doesn't mean this ending didn't have its merit. WE TOTALLY DIDN'T ALMOST CRY WHILE WE WERE RECORDING THIS EPISODE. Where do all the rest of the characters end up? This book made us feel a little bit better about the world, and honestly, what more could we ask for? Interview with Graci Kim (01:12:10) Check out the written interview here, in case you want to follow along! The first thing we want to know is…how is Graci doing now that the Gifted Clans series has come to a close? What were the challenges of writing The Last Fallen Realm? Had Graci ever been to Vegas before? We learn why Riley Oh dealt with so much imposter syndrome in this book. Was it difficult to balance Hattie and Riley's personalities? Is Hole-in-One-Riley based on Graci's real life!? Let's talk about all the wonderful food in this book! Why is the Tree of Life such a consistent symbol across multiple cultures? The spoiler section for these questions starts at 01:34:52. Okay, we've gotta talk about the mayor's betrayal. Graci explains why she ended Riley and Dahl's story like that, and the surprise she came across after she drafted this book. Has she thought about Riley's life after this book at all? Would she revisit this world at some point down the line? Graci also talks about how Rick Riordan Presents has started to change the publishing world. Would Graci ever be involved in an adaptation of her series? Lastly, she gives us an update on the new series she's working on! Stick around to listen to us discuss a few of her answers and give our input! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 87, in which we'll discuss Last Canto of the Dead by Daniel José Older, plus an interview with the author himself! Prophecy Radio episode #85 discusses The Last Fallen Moon, the second book in Graci Kim's Gifted Clans series based on Korean mythology and folklore. Plus, we tackle all the latest Riordanverse news, including an update on the WGA strike and the fact that the official Percy Jackson and the Olympians Twitter account finally posted after four months of silence. This week, we're also reading The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid chapter 11! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and updates (00:02:35) Happy birthday (and happy Pride Month) to Piper McLean! The official Percy Jackson and the Olympians Twitter account finally broke their four-month silence to tell us…nothing. Becky gave us a little more info about the WGA strike and what mini-rooms are. Oh, and Read Riordan wants us to meet the water dragon goddess from The Last Fallen Realm. The Last Fallen Moon by Graci Kim (00:14:29) We're so excited to be talking about this book this week, especially with the next one right around the corner. Don't forget, you can read Karen's Last Fallen Moon book review from last year. Also be sure to check out the interview we did with Graci Kim (which also links to the podcast episode if you'd like to listen instead)! So…what is this book about, exactly? This book starts off rough—everyone is so mean to Riley and her family. Why did Riley insist on going it alone!? How amazing was the depiction of the Spiritrealm? It's interesting to think about how stories and mythologies change over the years and WHY they change. Torture is still torture, even when it's disguised as fun. We talk a lot about the changes to Hell, and why Graci made them. Karen once again talks about the brilliance of shared universes. Hattie and Riley's relationship has been so wonderful to experience. We talk about some of the new characters we get to meet in this book, but we'll save the details for the spoiler section. Speaking of…the major spoilers start at 00:45:34! Let's talk about that forgotten underwater kingdom, shall we? The cosplaying protestors were pretty great, and we have a very important question for our listeners. What about all the creatures we meet in this book? Riley goes through so much in this book! Let's break it all down. Was Hattie being selfish and impulsive? Was Riley being too self-sacrificing? Can you believe they actually got arrested!? Were we surprised by the mayor? Shout-out to that edible forest! We can't wait to see the food in Fallen Realm. Of course the one thing that can destroy the snake is the one thing they gave away! The culmination of the story in this book is pretty huge. Let's talk about Hattie's big reveal. That hairpin was important after all! Thank goodness they got the memory book back! Will there be more Emmett in the next book? The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid discussion (14:31:37) This week, we're reading The Red Pyramid chapter 11! Do you know what a group of scorpions is called? It was really great for Sadie and Carter to talk about the difficulties in their lives, even if their conversation got cut off. What were our first reactions to Zia Rashid? Would you have fun memorizing all those auspicious times? We want a fire-breathing staff! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 86, in which we'll discuss The Last Fallen Realm by Graci Kim, plus an interview with the author herself!
