Immortal, blood-thirsty, and often good-looking, vampires are one of the most iconic creatures of mythology and folklore around the world.  Since Bram Stocker mixed history and fantasy into one, vampires became an essential part of pop culture as well. As monsters, gentlemen, cannibals, and protectors they appeared in many forms and intrigued humans for centuries. Most famous are Dracula, Salvatore Brothers, Nosferatu, Le Stat and in this episode we are hunting them.

Prophecy Radio episode #54 dives into the latest news in the Riordanverse, including three—yes, you heard right—THREE blog posts from Rick Riordan. This includes updates on Rick Riordan Presents, the latest casting information for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show, as well as the announcement of Percy Jackson Book 6 (aka Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods). We also return to our Percy Jackson reread with a discussion of The Last Olympian chapter 8. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:02:28) If you haven't already, be sure to listen to our interview with Roseanne A. Brown about Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting. Roseanne is also doing an educator giveaway of the book, ending 10/28. Read Riordan put up another OTP Timelines article—this time about Leo and Calypso. This isn't really news, but we love Angie Thomas and Rick Riordan's friendship. Blog-a-palooza (00:06:56) We have a lot of blog posts to talk about this week—and one extra than we expected! There's so much awesome news, so let's just get into it. First up is the October 9 blog post, titled “News from the Riordanverse October 2022.” You can still pre-order signed copies of The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro from Barnes & Noble. We're pretty excited that Rick mentions there could be more Will and Nico books in the future. We talk about some Trials of Apollo spoilers and how it could affect The Sun and the Star. What other characters do you think we'll get to see in this book? Don't forget about The Lords of Night by J.C. Cervantes! And how could we forget about The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi!? It's so interesting that Filipino mythology is one of the most requested topics for them to explore. Rick also gives us a few updates from the set of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. We learn roughly where we are in the adaptation of The Lightning Thief. Rick says more nice things about Walker and Leah, and we love to hear it. We guess as to which on-set dog Rick recently met. Rick also has some very interesting insight into the production process and how much he's learned about making a film/television adaptation. It's time to quiz Kristen on more TV/film lingo! Next up: The October 13 blog post, “More Casting News for PJOTV.” Jessica Parker Kennedy has been cast as Medusa. Kristen has definitely seen her in quite a few different shows. She also seems to be a Jon Steinberg darling, and it's exciting that they've worked together so many times! Suzanne Cryer has been cast as Echidna, and she has A LOT of TV credits to her name. Like, a lot. You've probably seen her in something. Her Instagram post about the announcement was so beautiful and heartwarming. Lastly, we've got Adam Copeland as Ares, and is there a more perfect person to step into this role? Maybe this is a good excuse for Karen to finally watch Vikings. Lastly, we've got the October 18 blog post about Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. Karen reads you the entire blog post so you don't miss A SINGLE DETAIL. Make sure you also read the Publisher's Weekly article, which offers a few additional details. Rick was REALLY trying to get the PJOTV off the ground, and we're here for it. How do we feel about calling Chalice of the Gods Percy Jackson 6? When does this book take place? Okay, but, like, is this the first in a trilogy…? Yeah, we're gonna buy this no matter what, you don't have to worry about that. We're PRETTY sure no one is going to die in this book, so don't panic! Rick reminds us just how much of a big deal Percy Jackson and the Olympians really is. Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian (01:06:37) This week, we're discussing The Last Olympian chapter 8. It feels like it's been ages, but we're back! That windowless, doorless room is cruel and unusual punishment. Why has Percy been dreaming of Rachel throughout this book? Who does that power belong to? We liked the countdown with Typhon instead of racing the clock against another solstice. This episode proves we need to work on our United States geography. Let's talk about this whole situation between Percy and Nico. One thing's for sure, we're always going to talk about how much we love Mrs. O'Leary. Achilles seems to have learned a lot from his death. Okay, we find out the real reason why Luke was able to host Kronos. We love Nico so much, but he's driving us crazy in this book. Is it weird that Percy submerges completely in the River Styx? We loved the moment when Percy pins Hades, but maybe he should've made sure the river thing worked first. Rick didn't have to include that moment with Hades' cloak, but we're glad he did. Feedback (01:33:54) Ian wants to remind everyone to go listen to our Daughter of the Deep review if you've read the book! He also has some clever ideas for the Percy Jackson Monopoly pieces. Sword of Avalon also has some great ideas to improve our Demigod Life game. Thanks for the kind words, too! Henry wrote us a monster of a letter, and we tackle a couple of the most important sections. We really love doing chapters one at a time, even if The Red Pyramid is a bigger book. Thanks for correcting a few timeline things for us! We're old and our memories are bad. We want Tom Sturridge as Morpheus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 5! Henry also gives us a great idea for our 100th episode. Is Nico friendly with Anubis, the Egyptian God of Death? He also has a tech question for us, and we need your help! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 55, which will do a Monster Guide on Procrustus. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #53 discusses Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting by Roseanne A. Brown, as well as talks to the author herself—who's also a massive Percy Jackson fan! Karen and Kristen also tackle all the latest news, and provide a little bit of an update about what's going on in their lives. But don't worry, the podcast isn't going anywhere! There is no chapter review this week. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:16) We provide a little bit of an update in our lives, which includes the next chapter of our story for both of us. Suffice it to say we're a little stressed. But don't worry! The podcast isn't going anywhere. The Lords of Night by J.C. Cervantes is out in the world! Being the tricksiest author at Rick Riordan Presents is quite the accomplishment. Read Riordan also wants you to meet Monty, a Jaguar Warrior, and catch up with A.P., the Mayan God of Death. How amazing would it be if Walker Scobell showed up in Deadpool 3? Did you catch the Percy Jackson reference in Bullet Train? Jason Gray-Stanford appears to have been cast in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting by Roseanne A. Brown (00:18:56) Beware of spoilers if you're trying to go into the book without knowing anything! What is this book about? Doesn't Mean Girls meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer sound like such a good combination? What kind of character is Serwa? How do we feel about her parents? We have a lot of thoughts. At least Boulder is around? It's okay not to be perfect, and Serwa certainly teaches us this lesson. We love how complex Roxy is. But her story is also about immigration and deportation, making it a pretty heavy—but important!—topic to talk about. Eunju is a complicated character, and it was interesting to see behind the mask. It's so refreshing when creators allow girls and women be angry! How could you NOT love Mateo? It took us a little longer to love Gavin, but once you understand where he's coming from, it really makes a difference! Everyone's magic fits them so well. The adze are kind of scary, and we never thought we'd be afraid of fireflies. Learning about the adinkra has been so interesting. Make sure you look in the back of your book to learn more! SPOILER SECTION STARTS AT 01:04:44. We talk about who the adze was and whether it was obvious. Mrs. Dean is THE ABSOLUTE WORST, and it makes us so angry. But at least we have Mr. Riley, who is her antithesis in every possible way. Mr. Riley and Roxy's ancestry is so interesting. Okay, let's talk about the BIG spoiler here because it's a doozy. Is her aunt as bad as everyone thinks she is? Is Serwa the Midnight Drum? There is SO MUCH to look forward to in Book 2. Roseanne A. Brown Interview (01:25:31) We're SO excited to talk to Roseanne because not only is she a huge Percy Jackson fan, but she's got some love for Teen Wolf, too. First up—what are her go-to snacks when she's writing? We learn that the length of an edit letter does not correlate to how much work you have to do on your second draft. Yes, there were people writing fanfiction on DeviantArt back in the day. No, we will never get to see her Percy Jackson fanfiction. Booooooo. Can you believe Mrs. Dean is based on someone Roseanne knows!? Wait until you hear who Mr. Riley is based on… Roseanne explains what the treasure hunting aspect of the book would've looked like. Making Serwa already a part of the world of Slayers was an intentional choice Roseanne made when writing the book. She tells us one of the crazy mythological creatures we'll see in Book 2. Three guesses which of the kids is Roseanne's favorite. We have an amazing discussion about how it's important to talk to kids about racism and how the book doesn't pull any punches when it comes to this topic. Who would Roseanne's Greek godly parent be? And she has the godly parents for each of the kids picked out! Which Rick Riordan Presents world would Roseanne like to live in? Is Roseanne excited for the Teen Wolf movie? You want some teasers for Book 2!? What about the other projects Roseanne is working on? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 54, which will discuss the latest blog posts from Rick Riordan. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Karen and Kristen also tackle all the latest news, including the Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure cover reveal, as well as discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 7. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:02:05) Don't forget that Carlos Hernandez is now OFFICIALLY a Marvel Comics writer!! Did you see the GIANT billboard for Ballad & Dagger in NYC? Read Riordan got Ren Santiago to write a blog post for them. We also got to meet Edison from Lords of Night by J.C. Cervantes, which comes out October 4. Happy birthday to Leah Jeffries (aka Annabeth), who turned 13 on September 25! We've decided on #SolangeloBook as the hashtag for The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure. Rick also wrote a September 28 blog post! We discuss the Sun and the Star cover reveal, as well as its artist, Khadijah Khatib. The US and UK release dates will both be May 2, 2023—it's really not far away! Mark and Rick will be doing an IN-PERSON tour! Could there be more spinoff novels?? We talk about Nico and Will's fate and whether we have to be worried. Oh, maybe we should read the Sun and the Star synopsis, huh? Don't forget to pre-order The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure! Percy Jackson Board Games (00:30:50) We're starting off with which existing board games we could theme to Percy Jackson. First up? Clue! What would we use as the different rooms in the mansion? Kristen's also got some ideas for a Percy Jackson Monopoly game. How would you organize the gods? What would represent the railroads? Caoimhe also has some excellent suggestions for the games pieces. There are a lot of ways to adapt The Game of Life for the Percy Jackson world. A Guess Who game would actually be really fitting for the demigods. This may even entice non-Percy Jackson fans to pick it up! If there's a Harry Potter version of a game, there can be a Percy Jackson version of the game. We come up with which gods would be on which special UNO cards. Apples to Apples is like a family-friendly version of Cards Against Humanity. Does Charging Rhinos always win in YOUR game? It's bonus time! Karen thinks Forbidden Island/Forbidden Desert would make for a great Percy Jackson-themed game. And if you want to play a Percy Jackson game right now, you could make your own Dungeons and Dragons campaign. Let's talk original games! Should we be giving these ideas away for free? Camp Half-Blood Chronicles balances social points and fighting experience to see who comes out on top at the end of the summer. Kristen explains all the dating games she and her sister used to play, and it blows Karen's mind. You have to say QUEST! with all the enthusiasm you can muster. Kristen explains what it would take to Outwit the Oracle. Karen was a little overzealous and came up with one more original game called Underworld, and yes, it borrows some ideas from Hades. Yeah, we could really talk about this topic forever, but it's time to move on! Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian discussion (01:15:48) It's that time of the week—let's discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 7. Okay, this part where Grover was in Central Park kind of came out of nowhere… Grover has matured a lot over the course of these books, and we love it. Two months is better than forever, but Grover's been out for a WHILE. Morpheus is an interesting character, especially after having watched Netflix's Sandman. Okay, Nico tricking Percy…is this a big deal or not? But why didn't Nico just talk to Percy?? We are definitely not a fan of Hades in this chapter. Mrs. O'Leary continues to be the MVP, though. What's everything we learned about Nico's mom and his childhood? It's a much bigger conversation than we can have right now, but there's a lot of (valid) criticisms about the depiction of Hades and his children. Hades' plan seems ill-advised, to say the least. We FINALLY find out who the lawyer was that freed Nico and Bianca. Why couldn't Hades just let Percy go in four years!? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 53, where we'll discuss Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting by Roseanne A. Brown. Prophecy Radio episode #50 celebrates by taking a look back over the last year and revisiting our very first episode! Karen and Kristen also tackle all the latest news, including some followup on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailer, as well as discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 5. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:02:13) The Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailer has a ton of views on both Twitter and YouTube. Let's jump right into Rick's September 17 blog post. He shares lots of behind-the-scenes moments, including some fanboying over Harvey Guillén. Rick also addressed those comments about the English and Greek letters on the Camp signs in the most Rick way, and we come up with a new headcannon. As for those symbols on the cabins? They're something new, and we spend some time theorizing about what they could mean. We totally agree those new CBH shirts are fire, and we can't wait to purchase them. Much to Karen's delight, we are getting a brand new Roshani Chokshi book from Rick Riordan Presents, titled The Spirit Mirror. Speaking of books, if you're looking for books like Percy Jackson, Everyday Reading has a list for you. Okay, we're bringing the tone down a little to talk about something a bit more serious: Roseanne A. Brown's comments about the review bombing she's been getting on Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting. In a similar vein, Tracey Baptiste (author of the upcoming Moko Magic duology from RRP) also spoke about the backlash to the Little Mermaid trailer and why representation matters. (P.S. The book Karen was talking about is called Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen and was inspired by her Nigerian heritage.) Ending on a high note, we mention Read Riordan's article where the gods give back-to-school advice. More importantly, however, we get to take a quiz to find out which Rick Riordan Presents heroine we are. 50th Episode Celebration Extravaganza (00:40:54) We take a trip down memory lane and look back on how far we've come from Prophecy Radio episode 1. Thank goodness we fixed up our audio! This podcast has so much untapped potential, even still to this day! We have a lot more to go, and we hope you'll stick around to enjoy it with us. Yes, we're still obsessed with our logo, and no we're never going to shut up about it. We were excited to find a community with our podcast, but we never expected to gain so many new friends in our fellow Riordanverse podcasters. Where were we in terms of the news this time last year? We didn't even have the greenlight yet! James Bobin wasn't hired. There was an open-call for Percy Jackson. Back then, they were aiming for a 2023 delivery, and that's unfortunately been moved back to 2024. We're still waiting on the Kane Chronicles movie, but at least now we have a better idea of where they are in the process. In 2021, we were still waiting on Cursed Carnival, Daughter of the Deep, and Tristan Strong Keeps Punching—all of which have been successful releases! The way we did our chapter reviews is pretty different from how we do them now. Thank you to everyone who writes into us every week. We really appreciate you all! Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian discussion (00:51:53) It's time to jump into Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 5. We're really going to miss Beckendorf—along with everyone at Camp. Mrs. O'Leary was hilarious in this chapter. Percy is not immune to dog drool, unfortunately. Leneus was so. annoying. Percy would totally know if Grover died. Was Percy out of character in this chapter? Nico being able to talk to Beckendorf…that's heavy. We still want to know more about Nico's plan. It's frustrating that the only reason Percy agrees is because Annabeth called him a coward. It's time to shadow travel!! Feedback (01:15:58) A listener writes in to correct one of our interpretations of the teaser trailer. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 51, where we'll do a Monster Guide on Echidna and Chimera. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Just in time for Halloween best-selling author Roseanne A. Brown brings us the story of a vampire slayer uprooted to suburban Maryland. How does a girl who was trained to be a vampire slayer adjust to regular life in middle school? Not so well. Serwa will make big mistakes, earn detention, and even make a trip to the underworld before she learns the shocking truth about herself and her family. For most kids, catching fireflies is a fun summer activity. For twelve- year-old Serwa Boateng, it's a matter of life and death. That's because Serwa knows that some fireflies are really adze, shapeshifting vampires from the forests of Southeastern Ghana. Adze prey on the blood of innocents, possessing their minds and turning them into hulking monsters, and for generations, slayers like Serwa and her parents have protected an unknowing public from their threats. Serwa is the best adze slayer her age, and she knew how to use a crossbow before she could even ride a bike. But when an obayifo (witch) destroys her childhood home while searching for a drum, do Serwa's parents take her with them on their quest to defeat her? No. Instead, they dump Serwa with her hippie aunt and cryptic-obsessed cousin in the middle of Nowheresville, Maryland "for her own safety." Now, instead of crossbows and battle armor, she's dealing with mean girls and algebra, and for the first time in her life she doesn't have to carry a staff everywhere she goes, which is, kind of nice, actually.

Prophecy Radio episode #49 does a complete breakdown of the 2022 D23 Expo event, in which we got a Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailer. Karen and Kristen also tackle all the latest news, including a new project from John Rocco, as well as discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 4. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:04) Haley and John Rocco have some new books coming out! Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting by Roseanne A. Brown is officially out in the world! You can read an excerpt on Read Riordan. Pahua and the Soul Stealer by Lori M. Lee is now out in paperback. For better or worse, Aphrodite wrote a guide to love on Read Riordan. Whew, that was fast, but we want to get to the good stuff! D23 and the Percy Jackson teaser trailer (00:04:33) Karen makes a public apology for ever doubting they would release a Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailer. Is it actually surprising we got a teaser trailer this early? We're kind of shocked we've gotten no god casting in the meantime! Karen goes through her experience waiting for the Percy Jackson segment of the D23 Branded Television panel. By the way, American Born Chinese seems like something Percy Jackson fans would enjoy! We discuss the two mini clips we got from the panel's montage intro. That first shot of Percy—where in the story could it be from? Then we definitely got a shot of Sally and Percy out in the rain. Next up, we discuss the concept art for the Hermes Cabin. Is the D23 Disney Branded Television panel online anywhere? If we find it, we'll link to it! Grover is the protector.

Prophecy Radio episode #48 assigns superlatives to our favorite Percy Jackson crossover ideas. Which property would make for the best TV show? The worst? The bloodiest!? Karen and Kristen also tackle all the latest news, including Rick Riordan's presence at D23, as well as discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 3. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:42) Don't miss Roseanne A. Brown's book tour for Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting. And don't forget to visit Read Riordan to meet Asaase Yaa. Which gods and demigods do you think have the most dysfunctional relationships? Check out these awesome answers from Rick on Goodreads. How do we feel about Rick's feelings about fanfiction?? Could he make a cameo in Percy Jackson and the Olympians? Why did he choose Mark Oshiro to write the Solangelo book with him? It's probably for the best that Rick's not writing books about African gods. We're always happy to hear Rick is optimistic for another season of the show. But what about another RRP anthology? Guess what? Rick's gonna be on a panel at D23! And yes, it will be livestreamed. Percy Jackson Superlatives/Crossover (00:20:12) We're trying something a little different today with this episode, but it ended up being pretty fun! First up is which property would crossover with Percy Jackson the most seamlessly? Who here remembers the movie Sky High? Blood of Zeus also seems like an obvious answer. Nothing would be more intense than a Game of Thrones/Percy Jackson crossover. Stranger Things would also be a good fit, but pretty dark for everyone involved. When we said most ridiculous, we meant it. What would be more hilarious, watching Grover or Clarisse immersed in the world of Zootopia? Could Riverdale get more ridiculous with the inclusion of Percy Jackson? Okay, when we say worst fit, we mean the world that wouldn't gel with Percy's universe. Kristen nails this one on the head with Star Trek. For some of the same reasons, Karen thinks Percy & Co. wouldn't do well on Mythic Quest. Is it weird that Kristen's bloodiest show would actually be an EXCELLENT fit for the Percy Jackson universe and Camp half-Blood? Would the Winchesters hunt down the demigods or ally themselves with them? How amazing would a Doctor Who/Percy Jackson crossover be?? Imagining Percy and his friends in the world of The 100 gets our creative juices flowing. We had the genius idea to end on the most delightful crossover scenarios. How perfect would the demigods fit into Pawnee, Indiana!? Okay, but can we get a show like The Good Place but about the Underworld? But really, let's do a Greek demigod version of Modern Family. Our listeners also wrote in to tell us some of their crossover ideas. Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian discussion (01:12:39) It's time to jump into The Last Olympian chapter 3! This book feels different from the other ones. It's a lot less hopeful in the beginning. Losing Beckendorf is a huge blow to Camp. How do we feel about Annabeth asking about Luke? Will this ACTUALLY be Percy's last trip to the attic? You're telling us the Great Prophecy was RIGHT THERE THE WHOLE TIME? Whatever Clarisse is upset about, it has to be big enough to do it in front of Silena right after they found out Charlie died. We're not counting this in our Prophecy Count, by the way, since we heard it once already (in part). Has Percy already fulfilled part of the prophecy? We wonder who the spy could possibly be… Percy says there's a bigger threat than Typhon, and we're inclined to believe him. Is Percy gonna tell his mom about the prophecy? Feedback (01:33:30) Laura is loving our one-chapter-a-week-discussions, too! She also has some mythology-themed book recs on the way. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 49 (to be determined…). This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #47 does a Deep Dive on the god Dionysus, exploring the origins of his myth and the role he plays in the Percy Jackson series. Karen and Kristen also tackle all the latest news, including the announcement of a brand-new author joining the Rick Riordan Presents imprint, as well as discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 2. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:02) We've got another OTP Timelines article from Read Riordan, and this time it's about Frank and Hazel. We also get a chance to meet Boulder from Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting—not to be confused with the Boulder from ATLA. P.S. Don't forget to check out the ReWatchable podcast and look for our Avatar: The Last Airbender round. Also, happy birthday to Roseanne A. Brown!! HUGE congratulations to Sajni Patel for joining the Rick Riordan Presents family with A Drop of Venom. It's wins all around as Carlos Hernandez joins the Marvel comics family, too! Deep Dive: Dionysus (00:10:13) It's time to meet Dionysus—or, as he might be better known, Bacchus. As is the case with a few of the other gods, Bacchus' birth was…interesting. We also discuss the fact that Dionysus was known as Bacchus to both the Greeks AND the Romans. Unfortunately for Bacchus' aunt and uncle, Hera found out where they were, and it did NOT end well. Does she have any morals? Any regrets?? Wouldn't it be amazing if Dionysus led the meetings for the LGBTQIA+ Club at Camp Half-Blood? Also his superpowers are pretty awesome. Was Ampelos a friend or, like, a friend? Now we're gonna be sad every time we eat a grape. :( At least Bacchus knew how to party—and his followers took it VERY seriously. Were any other gods worshipped to the same level as Bacchus? His revels were LEGENDARY—and very deadly. And those maenads? On another level. Do we feel bad for Pentheus? Can gods just make up powers when they need them most? Ariadne had a relationship glow-up when she went from Theseus to Dionysus. Did you know Dionysus invaded India!? What about Mr. D from the Percy Jackson books? Dionysus is one of the gods we see the most in the series. He's got a lot of pretty interesting powers. Do you want to know more about Dionysus too? Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian discussion (00:35:06) It's time to jump into The Last Olympian chapter 2! Prophecy Count #23! We're definitely curious about these Titans. TELL US THE PLAN, RICK. Under other circumstances, it would be so exciting that Percy got to visit the underwater palace. This is not the same Poseidon we've seen before. Rick really talks about the complexities of war in this book, and it's only chapter 2!! Is Poseidon sometimes a good father? We legit forgot that we didn't know the whole of the Great Prophecy yet. Oh, hey, don't forget about the spy at Camp. Speaking of, we're so excited to go back to CBH! Feedback (00:58:56) Nicolaas tells us he likes the one chapter approach, and we're definitely feeling it, too! Laura also took us on a walk with her puppy. Please send us pictures of your pets! They also tackle all the latest news in the Rick Riordan universe, including the latest blog post from the author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:34) Dior Goodjohn's Are You Afraid of the Dark season 3 is airing right now on Nickelodeon! For a moment, Karen forgets how to watch real TV. It looks like Percy Jackson and the Olympians is filming the Capture the Flag scene. Make sure you check out the cover reveal for the Maze of Bones graphic novel. Roseanne A. Brown wants to remind you that she did NOT write Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting under the patronage of an eccentric professor. We discuss Rick's August 6 blog post. There are a lot of books coming out from Rick Riordan Presents! We get an update on the Solangelo book—including possible tour plans and Rick's reaction to the cover. Mark Oshiro's book with the cool mushroom cover is called Into the Light. What's this other book project Rick is working on?? Paola Santiago and the Sanctuary of Shadows is officially out in the world! We're super excited for the Paola Santiago adaptation! Tehlor wrote a really beautiful letter saying goodbye to the series. Abuela has some tips and tricks if you happen to find yourself in possession of an arma del alma. But more importantly…which Paola Santiago character are you? Paola Santiago and the River of Tears by Tehlor Kay Mejia (00:25:10) It's time to talk about the first book in the Paola Santiago series! By the way, the narrator for these books (Frankie Corzo) is REALLY good. How did Kristen feel about reading River of Tears for the first time? We definitely know how to pronounce the Gila River. Paola reminds us a little of Aru Shah, tbh. Science girls for the win! This book really nails the boy/girl middle school dynamic. Paola's mom really doesn't serve much of a role in this book except to cause some friction for the main character. Abuela might not have a huge role, but she's a pretty important character. We included Emma, even though she doesn't feature too prominently in this book. Look, it's been a while since Karen read this one. Give her a break. WE DEFINITELY TALK ABOUT BRUTO. Is Riptide…an arma del alma? Would you like to live in Limbo for your whole life? Which of the monsters did we like most? Put us down as not fans of the mano pachona. Karen scars Kristen with images of the the lechuza. The SPOILER SECTION starts at 00:58:40 La Llorona's castle was pretty amazing. Kristen was personally attacked by Marisa. Okay, we know La Llorona has a reputation, but why is she so MEAN? Abuela is a total badass, and we are HERE for it. There's not too much to say about Los Niños de la Luz…for now. Interview with Tehlor Kay Mejia (01:11:05) Following on the heels of the Paola Santiago and the Sanctuary of Shadows release, we spoke with Tehlor Kay Mejia about the series as a whole. If you've read Paola Santiago, you won't be too surprised by her choice of go-to snacks. Is there an editing critique that she has the most trouble with? Tehlor talks a bit about reconnecting with her culture's folklore and how different families connect to different ones in a variety of ways. When did Tehlor come up with the idea for Paola Santiago? Are any of the characters in these books based on people she knows? How did Tehlor make sure the books weren't too scary for her audience? Which scenes hit the cutting room floor? Are there any monsters she wishes could've been included? And, more importantly, would she ever write more stories in this vein so she could include them? After getting Naomi on her character quiz, we ask what similarities and differences she has with her. Is it TOO personal to ask what kind of nightmares El Cucuy would show someone? Out of all three books, which scene is the MOST Paola Santiago? We find out the answer to one of our favorite questions to ask—who would be Tehlor's godly Greek parent? What's the best book she's read lately? And, of course, we have to ask how it feels now that Paola Santiago is getting its own adaptation! Does Tehlor have any upcoming projects she can talk about? What else is on that author bucket list of hers? Feedback (01:29:53) We get another email from Caoimhe, who tells us about tír na nóg and Setanta (sorry for butchering the pronunciation!!). We're definitely going to do future episodes about more than Greek myths. How did Kristen and Karen first meet? Caoimhe's friend Eimear also did a little drawing for us, and it's so good! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 45, in which we'll celebrate Percy Jackson's birthday and discuss “Percy Jackson and the Bronze Dragon” and “Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades.” This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then talk about the dreaded Sea of Monsters movie, as well as kick off their Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse reread with chapters 1 and 2. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:39) We've got a huge episode in front of us, so let's get into it! Sarwat Chadda is still working on City of the Plague Gods 2, but we're a little confused about the title. Kwame Mbalia and Roseanne A. Brown talk about what Black History Month means to them. If only our days in the office looked like Rick's. Tehlor Kay Mejia is writing her bi disaster adult debut, and we are very excited. Don't forget to check out Karen's Reclaim the Stars book review. Ashlee Latimer is giving away a copy of her new picture book! We're surprised that Rick already has a new blog post up, but we're excited to get into it! There is no typical work day for Rick, which sounds awesome and stressful. We talk a bit about all the script edits they're currently working on. The Solangelo book is going to be LONG, and we're here for it. We get an interesting insight into how they start to break an episode. Apparently, Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ will be eight episodes long. Rick also broke his toe, and we hope he feels better soon! Writing is never really done, it's just due. We can't imagine how many submission tapes they're going through—but it's a lot. Soon, we're going to talk about our dream cast for the adult roles in the show. How long do we think the filming for this show will take? Rick wrote Goodreads reviews for Ballad & Dagger and Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting. Becky does a lot, too! We see you, Becky. Thank you. Sea of Monsters movie (00:32:06) Did we like the Sea of Monsters movie better than the Lightning Thief movie? It was nice to see Thalia turning into the tree, but that opening was so dark. Let's meet all the new Sea of Monsters characters. Clarisse was pretty great, but we hope TV!Clarisse is a little stockier. We really missed the chariot races. Is there anyone who doesn't love Stanley Tucci? We kind of didn't mind that someone else is playing Chiron in this movie. The tone was definitely better in this movie. But how did we feel about Tyson? Have you ever thought about how a cyclops would wear sunglasses? And the whole barrier situation doesn't really work in the movie. The Colchis Bull fight had its highs and lows. We're still disappointed about Grover's storylines in these movies. Was it weird that Mr. D took over part of Tantalus' plot in the movie? How did we feel about the oracle? Kronos' aesthetic was…a choice. Nathan Fillion was truly an inspired choice for Hermes. Did Annabeth maim Thalia? Can the show create as good a Rainbow as the movie??? Did the filmmakers not know how to pronounce Riordan? Who doesn't love Ron Perlman as Hellboy?? Tyson's death in the movie was so pointless. Ugh, this was not our Annabeth. Not at all. The battle at the end with Kronos was so unnecessary. Does anyone here watch Station 19? Did we like Thalia at the end of the movie? How do we feel about the Percy voiceover? We are officially done with the movies! Chapter Reviews (01:24:06) Let's get into Titan's Curse chapter 1! Does this chapter start rather abruptly? We were shocked to learn Nico and Bianca were introduced so early! Controlling the Mist is a pretty big deal. We love book!Annabeth so much. The Ground Zero reference was effective. Dancing is hard. Time for Titan's Curse chapter 2! Shout-out to Onward for teaching us what a manticore is. We need a Rules for the Empathy Link pamphlet. The Hunters of Artemis definitely have great posture. We really wanted to reach the next chapter after that ending! Do your homework! And read lots of MG and YA books. Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 23, where we'll do another What If…? episode centered around Sea of Monsters. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then kick off their very first Monster Guide episode with the famous Furies (which includes the infamous Mrs. Dodds), as well as analyze chapters 13 and 14 of Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:57) Thanks for being patient while we worked to get this episode out there! As we thought, Rick gave us even more updates about the Percy Jackson Disney+ show in his January 29 blog post. It's nice to hear that Rick thinks the studio had some really smart comments about the first four scripts. What kind of Easter eggs are we looking forward to in the first season? It's SO important that the kids playing Percy, Annabeth, and Grover have good chemistry. Please be sure to go through the proper channels for all auditions. Oh, and don't believe any rumors. We have some thoughts on what the gods could look like. Is there a chance that regular old fans could ever turn up on the show? It's hard not to get ahead of ourselves and think about casting for Heroes of Olympus, but we need to be patient! Can you believe this is one of the biggest shows Disney has ever produced? Karen and Kristen nerd out for a minute about VFX technology. Pre-production is well on its way for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. We really, REALLY want a making of video series for the show. Remember, Rick does NOT have total creative control…and that's okay. Could we ever get an animated Riordanverse series? We also get a little bit of a Kane Chronicles movie update. And everyone is still working on the Daughter of the Deep rights. Thank the gods for bubble wrap. HUGE (and tearful) congratulations to Seale, who's moving over to Scholastic. Mark Oshiro wrote a Star War! Check out the Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting cover. Kristen is not a fan of elbow hair. And let's not forget about the Paola Santiago Disney+ series news! Don't give up on your dreams. Monster Guide: The Furies (00:31:49) After all that encouragement, we have to bring you down because we're talking about the Furies! Kristen will be in charge one day when her voice doesn't hate her. We go over some pronunciations. Hades, the video game, makes the Furies a lot more attractive than they are in the myths. They might be scary, but they actually play a noble role. If you haven't read Percy Jackson's Greek Gods or Greek Heroes yet, we highly recommend it. How did the Furies come to be? It's crazy that they're older than even the Olympians! The Furies are kind of just always around. Despite being hallmarks of Lightning Thief, they don't show up all that often afterwards. Was Alecto ever mentioned by name in the series? Maybe we shouldn't have named the Furies so much in this episode… Did you like our first ever Monster Guide? Should we do more? We also want to talk about the gods in depth! Chapter Reviews (00:43:43) Let's get into Sea of Monsters chapter 13. We can't stop talking about how incredible of a character Annabeth is. What's the steering wheel on a boat called?? Percy in his element is something magical. Thalia's backstory is so tragic, but Annabeth is such a warrior. We really read “The Diary of Luke Castellan” at the perfect time. The weight of knowledge isn't always an easy one to bear. Emotions are a WHOLE different ballgame. What is hubris, exactly? If Annabeth wasn't willing to learn, would she have ended up more like Luke? Fatal flaws are such an important part of Greek mythology. Percy and Annabeth are really such a dream team. But Thalia is also wicked awesome. Time to meet the Sheep of Doom in chapter 14. The island is beautiful…and very dangerous. Clarisse needs to take a lesson on battle strategy from Annabeth. Polyphemus really doesn't care who his wife is, as long as he has one. It was so cool seeing the Nobody trick come back in a different way. It cannot be pleasant to hang onto the belly of a sheep. We can never remember the name of the empathy link!! We get an awesome question from a listener than we'll probably turn into an entire episode discussion. Oh, and if you're interested in some of the mistakes and continuity errors in the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles, you can check out this Tumblr. Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 19, where we'll talk about what it would be like to have a Percy Jackson Land at Disney World. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then list out all the companion books, short stories, and illustrated editions we have so far, as well as analyze chapters 5 and 6 of Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:15) Karen and Kristen are throwing responsibility out the window forever! Aru Shah and the End of Time graphic novel debuted at #1 on Amazon! Daughter of the Deep jumped to #1 on the NYT bestsellers list. Sarwat Chadda is working on the next draft of Rise of the Chaos Goddess. We get a fantastic update about the Solangelo book. We're really excited to check in with other characters too. Kristen and Karen think they're hilarious. The Percy Jackson Disney+ show's writers room is back at it again! Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting sounds great. We take a quick moment to shout out In Every Generation by Kendare Blake. Companion books, short stories, illustrated editions, oh my! (00:07:43) The Demigod Files includes three short stories, all of which sound great! We've read most of these, but it's been a while, so we don't remember them as well as we'd like. But Clarisse and Percy together is bound to be a lot of fun. (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) Oh, hey there, Charles Beckendorf! We get a wild Festus sighting, and we're so happy. How much did the Lightning Thief movie pull from “Sword of Hades” for Persephone's character? Don't forget, you can check these out at your local library! The Ultimate Guide is so much fun and a great collector's item. It's also very practical and incredibly useful! There is a cursed picture of Karen dressed as a daughter of Hephaestus for Halloween. We go off on a Beanie Baby tangent. “Percy Jackson and the Singer Apollo” is full of chaos, and we love it. Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods and Greek Heroes are SO PRETTY. Who HASN'T read Percy Jackson? Camp Half-Blood Confidential is another good pocket guide to keep on hand. Plus, there's the coloring book, with art by Keith Robinson. We only have the Lightning Thief illustrated edition and it's a TRAVESTY. John Rocco says there are no current plans to do more. Nobody would complain about more John Rocco art. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but we need a Percy Jackson Land at Disney World. We might have to do a whole episode on that idea. Let's dive into the Heroes of Olympus series now! We kick off with The Demigod Diaries, and “The Diary of Luke Castellan.” We'll be talking about this one in-depth soon! Hera is always messing things up. Ever heard of the bacchanalia? “The Son of Magic” was written by Rick's son! It's a fan-favorite. The Demigods of Olympus app might be long-gone. Time for the Kane Chronicles books! The Survival Guide is another awesome book to have on hand. Justice for Magnus Chase! Kristen will have to read the Kane Chronicles soon! The crossover short stories were a VERY BIG DEAL back in the day. But where's our crossover SERIES? Where's the Riordan Literary Universe (RLU)? And then Karen brings us all down. MOVING ON. We love Magnus Chase so much, and luckily there are some great guides for it. Einherjar is a very difficult word to say. There's always time for new books down the line! Did we…do a good job!? Let's talk graphic novels and why WE NEED MORE. Shhh, we're not allowed to have other interests! Chapter Reviews (00:38:13) Let's talk about Sea of Monsters chapter 5! Karen's living for Kristen's recaps. Everyone knows that feeling when your mom cleans your room against your will. Camp Half-Blood isn't a safe space anymore. Goodbye FOR NOW. Despite being “immortal,” it's so interesting how gods must rely on mortal worship to keep them going. We are not fans of Tantalus. Is Mr. D trying to comfort Tantalus, or is he giving him false hope? Can everyone please stop being mean to Tyson!? Are the other campers jealous of Tyson? We shouldn't be so cavalier about death. We are very happy to meet Charles Beckendorf again. We go on a Sponge-Bob tangent but Karen had to prove she has a brain. Time for chapter 6! BRAIN WORKS. Karen is very mad at Percy. BUT this is a good lesson for kids to learn. Karen was the annoying little brother. Lowercase pegasus versus capital letter Pegasus. Team Percabeth breaks up very quickly. Tyson gets a stick! Karen does not want to talk about the birdnado. Rick did Dean Martin dirty. Prophecy Count: 7 A lot has already happened in these first six chapters. We were feeling a lot of emotions today. And we have some feedback to go through! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 15, in which we'll discuss Dragon Pearl by Yoon Ha Lee and “The Initiative” from Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz talk about what's new in the Percy Jackson fandom, discuss all the books the Rick Riordan Presents authors have written outside of the Disney imprint, and analyze chapters 13 and 14 of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:07) This might be the longest doc we've had so far. First and foremost, we have news from Rick's blog! There's no current plan for a Daughter of the Deep sequel, but never say never! The Lords of Night: A Shadow Bruja Novel and Serwa Boateng's Guide of Vampire Hunting have official release dates and synopses. We have an official update on where in the process the Nico di Angelo book currently is. The book is at 117,000 words. How many pages is that? We're probably not getting anymore Percy Jackson television show news until 2022. That includes no news for Disney+ Day. BUT we know Becky and Rick have reviewed some casting callback tapes. Read Riordan has spotlights on Nelinha, Ester, and Gemini. The Last Fallen Star is officially in New Zealand! You can sing to the karaoke version of The Lightning Thief Musical! (Edit: Apparently this is from 2019, and we had no idea!) “Forget Horse Girls, Embrace the Mythology Freak” by Jenny G. Zhang (here's the tweet) Sorry, Frank. Why did we like mythology so much, and what do all the mythology freaks have in common? (Say hi to Callie!) Rick Riordan Presents authors' other series (00:18:47) We're really excited about all the books, novellas, anthologies, and short stories these authors have written. But fair warning: There are A LOT. Anthologies have really made a resurgence lately, and we're into it. Up first is Roshani Chokshi, who wrote the Pandava Quintet/Aru Shah books! She's got some other stories here about Hindu mythology that might be for older audiences. And one of her books definitely gives Six of Crows vibes, if you're into that! Next up is J.C. Cervantes! Look, sometimes words are hard. Karen just wants to keep Kristen on her toes. Yoon Ha Lee, who wrote Dragon Pearl, is a very prolific writer. There's a lot of sci-fi here, and some really cool concepts. Kristen gets her mind blown, repeatedly. Festus, is that you? Thank the gods for Wikipedia. Next on our happy hit parade is Carlos Hernandez, who wrote Sal & Gabi. Karen learned a fun fact about him, and she is very excited. Short stories can get W E I R D. Kwame Mbalia wrote the Tristan Strong series, as well as some other cool books. Black Boy Joy seems like a really important book to have right now. You might as well just assume almost everyone has written short stories. Tehlor Kay Mejia wrote the Paola Santiago series, and she's up next. She's got some great titles. If you liked Dumplin', then you might like Miss Meteor. Forests are so cool and creepy. Karen gets a book idea in the middle of recording. Graci Kim wrote the Gifted Clan series, and Karen has a quick aside about the last book in the series. She hasn't written any other books, but we have some fun facts to share about her! Who knew running away to the circus was so common? Rebecca Roanhorse wrote Race to the Sun, and a lot more!. You should watch Love and Monsters. And then go read Roar by Cora Carmack. We love a good title. And a good name. How do we feel about historical fiction? Here's LeVar Burton reading “Wherein Abigail…,” “Takeback Tango,” and “Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience ™.” Sarwat Chadda wrote City of the Plague God, as well as some other interesting books! Have you seen A Little Princess? Shoutout to Animorphs! More short stories! More anthologies! Next up is Lori M. Lee, who wrote Pahua and the Soul Stealer. She's a busy lady, but she does plan to finish her Gates of Thread and Stone series. See? Forests are creepy! Yeah, you should definitely read A Thousand Beginnings and Endings. Roseanne A. Brown wrote Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting, which we are very excited about. She also just finished up her duology in her A Song of Wraiths and Ruin series. They have some incredibly stunning covers. It's so cool that so many of these authors have written for Marvel and Star Wars, too. Daniel José Older wrote Ballad & Dagger, which definitely has some shared threads with one of his other series. If you're looking for an adult series, look no further than Bone Street Rumba! Daniel has written *all* kinds of books. Well-behaved spirits are super lame. Who else loves Waterworld?? Stacey Lee will be writing Winston Chu Versus the Whimsies, and Karen's definitely heard of her books before. Bridgerton might be a little spicy for our younger listeners. Historical fiction about non-white stories are always interesting reads. Everyone is running away to the circus! Karen brings the whole podcast down. Lastly, we've got Tracey Baptiste, who will be writing Moko Magic. Lots of jumbies here! Let's throw in some Minecraft, shall we? More jumbies! Plus, some non-fiction! We did it! We made it! We hope you found your next read. If you've read any of these, let us know which ones we should start with! Chapter Reviews (01:19:21) Let's talk about The Lightning Thief chapters 13 and 14. Grover sleeps a lot. Thank the gods for Annabeth. That chimera? No, thank you. Ohio reference! Karen breaks Kristen. It's always interesting when the female goddesses give birth to the demigods. Annabeth's childhood sounds rough, and it's so sad. But we can't wait to see her relationship with her father improve. Percy doesn't want to be enemies! What, exactly, is Poseidon's domain? Prophecy Count: 4 Percy can see through the Mist a lot better now. The dark is very scary. Percy really needed to take this moment to reflect on everything that's happening to him. Who was the woman in the water? How did that lady see through the Mist? But, seriously, how exactly does the Mist work? How has Percy never noticed he can breathe underwater? Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next week for episode 8, which will discuss some Daughter of the Deep spoilers. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. The Tristan Strong Keeps Punching paperback is available now! BE WARNED: Due to COVID-related printing delays, you'll want to order your books for the holidays ASAP. Daughter of the Deep‘s U.S. release date is Oct. 26. Please don't share any spoilers! Subjectify will have a spoiler-free review up on that date. Have you met King Cotton yet? All the Cursed Carnival authors are now all NYT bestsellers! We attended the Daughter of the Deep virtual event. Have YOU read Mysterious Island? Robert Ballard is SO. COOL. And definitely a son of Poseidon Octopuses are a little creepy. Cool. But creepy. Daughter of the Deep has been optioned for a Disney+ feature film! *Insert firework sounds* We'll probably get more background information from the Percy Jackson show than we got from the books. We're gonna keep talking about Teen Wolf. Sorry not sorry. We're still trying to be patient about casting. The Percy Jackson world lends itself to animation, and we stand by that. But The Kane Chronicles is definitely a live-action film. Yes, we heard about the Nico di Angelo news. We know a little bit about the process behind this co-writing venture. Mark Oshiro seems super cool. The year 2023 is going to be JAM-PACKED. Rick is working on something related to Irish mythology, but we don't have much information yet. Rick Riordan Presents Did you notice Karen got a new mic!? Rick Riordan Presents is a beast of an imprint, and we love it so much. #NotAPhase Let's jump into the books from this imprint that Karen HAS read. The Pandava Quintet by Roshani Chokshi is definitely a favorite. Have you listened to Prophecy Radio episode 2, where we talk about Cursed Carnival? Paola Santiago gets to explore such a spooky and cool world. Beware cliffhangers! Graci Kim is cool and she loves food and Karen loves food and you should read The Last Fallen Star. Witches! Magic! Baked goods! Dragon Pearl is getting a sequel! Karen got an ARC of Tiger Honor and did a little dance. Kristen explains what the heck an ARC is. We have a soft spot for fox spirits. Karen has read The Storm Runner and totally meant to keep reading the series, but life got in the way. This series is also getting a spinoff duology! Zane's destiny is kind of a buzzkill. It pains Karen every. single. day. that she hasn't finished the Sal and Gabi series. Sometimes staying up to date on all these books is hard. P.S. Let us know how you want us to handle talking about the individual series in the future! Tristan Strong by Kwame Mbalia has super powerful titles and awesome covers! Long live Gum Baby! Rebecca Roanhorse's standalone Race to the Sun might be a good one to start with. It discusses some really topical issues and would be important for kids to read. We're obsessed with the title of Rise of the Chaos Goddess. Sarwat Chadda seems like a hilarious guy. Which one will Kristen read first!? The premise for Pahua and the Soul Stealer sounds so cool. Kristen has heard of the Hmong people before thanks to the Olympics! Foreshadowing: We mention our cat. Please make Karen's dreams come true. Let's talk about the RRP books that aren't out yet! In Serwa Boatang's Guide to Vampire Hunting, pronunciation of Serwa's name is literally a plot point. Not the fireflies! It's giving us very much Teen Wolf vibes. Very much Buffy. Daniel Jose Older sounds like he's lived such an interesting life. Finally a young adult novel!! *whispers diabolically* Enemies to lovers! We just want magic to be real. The Whimsies sounds so fun and mischievous. So many of these books are set in NYC. Don't forget the Moko Magic! Chapter Reviews This week we're discussing chapters 5 and 6 of The Lightning Thief. Karen was not expecting to have so many feelings about Mr. D. The nectar sounds amazing and terrible at the same time. Chapter 5 blows this whole world wide open. More Annabeth, please! Percy is so dramatic sometimes. Kristen is getting Big Brother vibes from chapter 6. Finally, Camp Half-Blood in the flesh. Who DOESN'T like to show off in the bathroom once in a while? Chiron is giving us Dumbledore vibes, and we don't love it. Did Chiron know Percy was Poseidon's son? We now know Grover's official age! Percy has so much left to learn. A surprise visitor drops by! Technically, Chiron didn't lie about the attic. Karen loves the explanation of monster archetypes. We got our first listener feedback! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next week for episode 4, which will include a spoiler-free review of Daughter of the Deep in more detail.
