Comic Book Couples Counseling Podcast
Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley on Battle Beast

Comic Book Couples Counseling Podcast

With the Invincible animated series propelling more and more fans to the comic books, now is the perfect time for Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley to reteam on a new series. In a universe populated with numerous rich, wild characters, they could have revamped an infinite number of ideas. They chose Battle Beast, the white lion-like humanoid cursed with an unquenchable rage, and in doing so, Kirkmann and Ottley create an opportunity to reframe the character's original narrative. Battle Beast first appeared in Invincible #19 (2004) and did not return until Invincible #55 (2008). Between those comics is a massive swath of time, and the new series, Invincible Universe: Battle Beast, will explore it fully. The first issue arrives in comic shops next Wednesday. If it's any indication, when this series is over, it will radically alter our understanding of Battle Beast's narrative and its place within the larger Invincible storyline. This week, we trap Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley in our Zoom room. We examine how this first issue challenges our previous interpretation of the title character, the pain at Battle Beast's core, and the brilliant action that erupts from it. Having built a utopia on his homeworld through violent combat, Battle Beast seeks an end through a worthy opponent. You should know that this episode ventures into conversations about suicide and mental health crises. Helplines are available if you do not already have a support system. It even attracted the attention of Britney Spears's former manager, who fed information to Sloan about Britney so he could leak information about the conservatorship. Consequently, Sloan became a credible source and helped with the Free Britney and Quiet on Set documentaries.   In 2022, Sloan Hooks moved from Florida to West Hollywood to pursue his passion for entertainment and film his podcast, Let's Get into It. The podcast's YouTube channel features on-camera interviews and in-depth investigations and has over 208,000 subscribers. He has welcomed many guests, including Alexa Nicolas, Holly Madison, Lorelei Carlson and Lennon, and Manny MUA. Sloan allows his guests to open up about their instances of exploitation and moments of abuse at the expense of others. Reporting the truth has made Sloan the target of social media challenges; now, he is challenging his guests in person, and they no longer get to hide behind their false narratives.   On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Sloan Hooks spoke about covering the downfalls of both Ellen DeGeneres and Sean “Diddy” Combs, how he got involved with both the Free Britney Movement and the Quiet on Set documentary and revealed his dream guests for The Let's Get into It Podcast. You can connect with me on social media! 5/22/24 - Host and American Family Farmer, Doug Stephan www.eastleighfarm.com introduces us to Alexandria War, Farm Aid's Farmer Services Network Manager, for a focus on Farm Aid's Mental Health Hotline, aiming to provide aid to Farmers nationwide. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and mental health issues are a major concern for all types of workers in the farming and agriculture industry. Farm Aid's hotline operators are familiar with agriculture and with resources for farmers around  the country; they work with hotline callers to find the best resources for their individual  situation, whether they are looking for assistance with farm stress, financial issues, legal  questions or business-related questions.  All farmers  can call the hotline at 1-800-FARM-AID (1-800-327-6243). The Hotline hours are M-F,  9am-9pm ET and 6am-6pm PT. The suicide rate has been higher for farmers than for the general  population for decades, and a 2017 front-page story in The Guardian brought it to America's attention. It's a harsh reality about farmers: people working in agriculture in the U.S.  — including farmers, farm laborers, ranchers, fishers and lumber harvesters — take their lives  at a rate higher than any other occupation.  Alexandria comes to the Farm Aid  team from a varied background in food systems. Most recently Alexandria worked in the  farmers market world where she supported a large network of farmers and producers in the  Mid-Atlantic. Her work has also included academic research, policy, and advocacy. Alexandria  is constantly inspired by the farmers in this country, and the individuals and organizations that  have worked tirelessly to support small scale agriculture, and sustainable and equitable food  systems.Website: AmericanFamilyFarmerShow.comSocial Media: @GoodDayNetworks

Dizzy and Pup Rekkr talk about vorarephilia! In this episode, we will start off by defining the terms specific to the vore community and language thereof. We will discuss the parallels of vore in society and media as well as a couple of infamous cases which show what can happen in the astronomically rare case that someone takes this kink too far. Then we'll talk about how most vorarephiles participate in their kink purely in fantasy, why they may have the desire to participate in this kink, and a few examples of how one might do so. Vore is a more extreme and fantastical kink in which the line between fantasy and reality must be bold! It's also hugely misunderstood even by those in the kink and leather communities. Hopefully this episode will shed some light on this shadowed topic. Episode 200! Light Carries On by Ray Nadine refuses to allow death to get in the way of a little life-changing romance. We go into session with Leon and Cody, two souls in stasis, unsure how to move forward and afraid their future won't hold happiness. Together, they uncover the beauty they're already living or un-living. You may think you know where Light Carries On will take you, but Ray Nadine blissfully subverts genre convention and delivers a genuinely original ghost story. Only in the last moments does clarity strike, and through Leon and Cody's revelations, we find a few for ourselves as well. This week, we turn to Dr. Terry Singh's TEDx Talk, "How to Get Unstuck," for expertise and guidance in navigating Leon and Cody's complicated relationship. Throughout our lives, we encounter various moments of stuckness. During these periods, catastrophic doubt and fear can creep inside. Dr. Singh gives us (and our comic book subjects) a few tools to free ourselves. After nearly five years of Comic Book Couples Counseling, we still find new methods and narratives to unlock self-inspection and create growth. The hope we found within this episode's conversation was rejuvenating. We hope it offers you a similar relief. Helplines are available if you do not have a support system. Light Carries On was released earlier this year and is published by Dark Horse Comics. "This is not my beautiful house! This is not my beautiful wife!" Mark Grayson returns from his Rebooted life to find Atom Eve fully embracing that alien lifestyle and their daughter Tera well into childhood. He's missed so much but doesn't have time to cry about it. Thragg and his brood armada are on the march and thirsty for Grayson blood. We return to Invincible this week and our ongoing Mark and Eve counseling session. We are so close to the comic's climax and freaking out a little. Creators Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker slam the Grayson family through the grinder, attacking them from within and without. Our loving couple has survived a lot, but the Full House arc threatens to tear everything asunder. Most notably, Lisa's emotions, as she's reeling after nearly every page turn. Our heroes are bottling their feelings, struggling to express themselves to each other, creating opportunities for violent outbursts. Complicating everything is Tera, their little one, racing to experience life in a universe out to destroy her. Can Mark and Eve reveal their deepest fears to each other when they have to throw up protective walls for their daughter's sake? Helping us navigate this tumultuous time between Mark and Eve is Dr. Marc Brackett and his book, Permission to Feel: Unlocking the Power of Emotions to Help Our Kids, Ourselves, and Our Society Thrive. We've reached the portion detailing the dangerous game of expressing yourself. You must put yourself out there, but you cannot control how the person across from you will react. What do you do when your partner's emotional response clashes with your vulnerable unveiling? Brackett might not have a solution for you, but maybe we do. Maybe. After learning from her own toxic relationship, Shannon Petrovich takes an assertive approach to reclaiming her self-worth and healing her broken heart - while discovering the powerful tools needed to help others do the same. "That you really should be able to fully exist in a relationship. Your thoughts, feelings, wants, needs, aspirations, goals and dreams should be fully present in a relationship. If your partner is not empathic and passionate and caring about all those aspects of you that you are in a toxic relationship, you can get free and you can rebuild your sense of self and your connectedness and your life." Shannon Petrovich is the author of Out of the Fog into the Clear and an expert on toxic relationships. She has worked with many men who have been in toxic relationships and has a lot of male clients who have come based on toxic relationships. Shannon Petrovich had been a therapist for 35 years and wanted to share her knowledge with the world, so she started a YouTube channel. After fielding questions about toxic relationships, she realized she wanted to help people heal from them and wrote a book about it. With the help of Pod Match, Shannon has been able to talk to people from all over the world and share her story. She's passionate about helping people understand toxic relationships, especially men, as it can be hard for them to recognize the manipulation and control they are under. Shannon believes that journaling can help people notice how they talk to themselves, and ultimately heal from toxic relationships. She encourages people to recognize their thoughts and feelings, be assertive, and take ownership of their own self-care. In this episode, you will learn the following:   1. Uncovering the effects of living in a toxic relationship and the strategies to heal from it. 2. Exploring the differences between overt and covert toxic behavior in relationships. 3. The United States has a worsening mental crisis, exacerbated by the pandemic, with reports showing the overall suicide rate increased 30 percent between 2000 and 2020. While the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act passed in 2020 with bipartisan support, the implementation of a new three-digit crisis hotline went live just last month. Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA) is one of the cosponsors of the bill, which has created the 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline; one universal number for people to dial to get help during a mental health crisis. He joins the Rundown to discuss the launch of the hotline, his own struggles with PTSD as a combat veteran, and why this is an important step in destigmatizing mental health within America.   On Tuesday, the country saw primary elections in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington. Some key takeaways from the results include Kansas voters choosing to keep the right to abortion in their state constitution, a pro-impeachment Republican in Michigan was defeated by his Trump-endorsed challenger, and many primary results have reinvigorated questions about candidate viability in a general election. FOX News Decision Desk Director Arnon Mishkin joins the podcast to explain how Kansas' vote foreshadows the impact that Roe v. Wade could have in November, how President Biden's low approval ratings are affecting members of his party, and Democrats' risky primary strategy of meddling in GOP primaries.   Plus, commentary from FOX News Contributor Joe Concha.
