The Image of the Black archive at The Warburg Institute comprises more than 30,000 images documenting representations of people of African descent from antiquity to the civil rights era. In 2025, images from this collection were shown in public for the first time as part of 'Black Atlas', an exhibition and moving-image essay directed by Edward George and produced by Matthew Harle – Arturo Galansino's guests on the third episode of the Frieze Masters Podcast 2025. Together, they discuss the legacy of Black imagery and its ability to reveal more than the creator's intention. The archive has its 'an infinite potential because of its unfinishedness,' says Harle, 'it has its own energy.' 'Black Atlas' is on view at The Warburg Institute, London, 10 October 2025 – 17 January 2026 About the speakers Edward George is a writer, broadcaster and the founder of Black Audio Film Collective. Just because we can do something, does it mean we definitely should do it? Won't we regret it later? That's the question tech artist Josh Harle asked of his parents when they worked in nuclear weapons programs. Today's tech experts are developing ever more sophisticated artificial intelligence. Josh tells Chris Cummins why he wants to provoke more debate on what this all might mean for the health of future society.Sendungshinweis: FM4, OKFM4, 05.09.2025, 17 Uhr

On Good Friday, a federal judge in Texas handed down a potentially historic abortion ruling. The case at hand revolves around the Food and Drug Administration's approval of the abortion pill mifepristone. In 2000, the FDA approved the use of mifepristone to be used along with the drug misoprostol to terminate a pregnancy. But some medical experts have argued the FDA's approval was rushed and unlawful. In 2022, a group of pro-life medical professionals and an organization represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal organization, filed a lawsuit against the FDA arguing that it had improperly approved the abortion pill, and federal Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk for the Northern District of Texas agreed. “The Court does not second-guess FDA's decision-making lightly,” Kacsmaryk wrote in his ruling. “But here, FDA acquiesced on its legitimate safety concerns—in violation of its statutory duty—based on plainly unsound reasoning and studies that did not support its conclusions.”Denise Harle, Alliance Defending Freedom senior counsel, joins the show today to discuss what the ruling means and the likelihood of the case ultimately rising to the Supreme Court. Harle also breaks down a ruling the same day by a judge in Washington state in favor of continued access to the abortion pill. Enjoy the show.Follow the links below to learn more about the case: https://www.dailysignal.com/2023/04/11/best-part-of-federal-judges-ruling-against-abortion-pill-comes-down-to-two-words/https://adflegal.org/ Hosted on Acast. When Shawnee Harle's team choked on the biggest stage of their lives in the 2016 Rio Olympics, one game away from a medal, she realized there was something missing in the lives of most athletes: emotional intelligence and mental toughness. Fast forward to today, Shawnee reigns as the most highly certified basketball coach in Canada and serves teen athletes and their parents as a mentor and mental toughness coach, because "fake it 'til you make it" isn't always the best solution. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/curiositeen/support

Denise Harle (pronounced like the motorcycle) is a college football fanatic as am I. She named her boy after a former Ohio State Buckeye quarterback (Kirk Herbstreet) and if you know me, that is something that makes me smile. She went to Florida State University, as did my mom, so we have a lot in common but for today's episode of I'm Glad You Said That, we're not talking football.Denise Harle serves as Senior Counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom, where she is the director of the Center for Life. She has a master's degree in political science from Stanford University, and a Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law. In her role with ADF, Harle leads her team's litigation and advocacy efforts to defend pro-life legislation around the nation. She also networks with pro-life allies, speaks publicly on behalf of ADF, and works to defend the First Amendment freedoms of pro-life health care professionals and pregnancy resource centers. What an amazing time to be defending life legally ! With the Dobbs decision coming out literally any day, this is as hot a topic, and of critical importance, as it gets right now. Hope you can tune in.Support the show

Just like an athletes career, coaching can take many different roads with many different roles. Some of us get into coaching through volunteer work while, for others, the job is a calling. No matter the case, no two coaching journeys are the same - but, with that said, at the end of the day, the common thread that binds great coaches together is to teach, to motivate and to help athletes use sport as a vehicle for their growth as human beings - because winning - however you choose to define that word - tends to take care of itself when that happens. Today's guest, Coach Shawnee Harle, has nearly 30 years experience in coaching which includes appearances at the World University games, the FIBA Americas, the World Championships and two olympic games as the assistant coach with the Canadian Women's Basketball team. In addition to her experience, Shawnee is also the most highly certified basketball coach in Canada and has accreditation as a Chartered Professional Coach with the Coaching Association of Canada, a Masters in coaching studies, and a level 5 certification with the National coaching certification program.Even still, with all of her experiences a coach, Shawnee has spent recent years dedicating herself to the mental side of the game by helping athletes make sense of what's going on in their head and heart in order to cut through the noise, and, as she puts it, unleash their inner tiger.
"MANY of my clients are young, female athletes and their mom and I'm passionate about that because girls drop out of sport at 6X the rate of boys. I'm teaching them to face 3 F words: FAKE, FEAR, FEEL. Sport teaches us to "FAKE it till you make it" which means avoid your FEAR and hide how you FEEL. I think that's ridiculous! How in the world are we supposed become emotionally intelligent when we are faking, avoiding and hiding?? I'm also helping moms see how they unintentionally put their fears onto their kids which really hinders them in sport (and life). It's time to shift from fear to FIERCE!!" Some time ago, we were fortunate to sit with Shawnee Harle and hear how her work with young athletes is changing their lives, and the lives of their parents, through greater emotional intelligence and embracing courage and confidence. This conversation is one of our favourites since we started recording SHE is Wise, and Shawnee embodies our message and mission perfectly. Enjoy the conversation! Your values aren't just what you believe in; they're the actions you take toward those beliefs. And sometimes those values change because of new experiences, transitions, life stages, and so on.Values in business can change too, because of world events and new knowledge available. One only has to reflect on the last two years to understand the need for company and personal values to shift and change. When thinking about your organization's current values, did your team members have buy-in in creating them? Do their personal values align with your organization's values? What about the leaders in your organization? It's incredibly important for there to be alignment in values because those values inform the actions we take. And if leaders don't showcase their values consistently, everyone suffers. This week on the podcast, I'm talking with Lindsay Harle-Kadatz about how to talk to team members about values so everyone is on the same page. Because when organizations care about values, it has a big (positive) impact on the bottom line. And surely that's something that you care about!About Lindsay Harle-Kadatz:Lindsay Harle-Kadatz is known as the Values Vixen (that…and a quirky human).
