Prophecy Radio episode #82 regales you with every detail Karen can remember about the Sun and the Star Boston tour stop with Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro. We also discuss all the latest Riordanverse news, including the updated covers for The Lightning Thief, The Lightning Thief: The Graphic Novel, and Camp Half-Blood Confidential. Lastly, we continue our journey through The Kane Chronicles with The Red Pyramid chapter 9! Remember, we're keeping this discussion spoiler-free! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and updates (00:03:43) The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro is officially out in the world! You can read Karen's The Sun and the Star book review right here on Subjectify. AJ Beckles is the solo narrator for the book. Did you know that The Titan's Curse came out on May 1, 2007? Check out this Mary Sue interview, but be warned that it contains spoilers! Rick has seen early versions of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians PR material! We discuss the updated covers for The Lightning Thief, The Lightning Thief: The Graphic Novel, and Camp Half-Blood Confidential. The next book from Rick Riordan Presents will be The Last Canto of Dead by Daniel José Older, out May 16. Congratulations to Daniel for being nominated for a Locus Award for Ballad & Dagger. Did you see that Velinxi was the surprise artist for the May Rainbow Crate, which features The Sun and the Star? Kristen gives us a great breakdown of the WGA on strike and what this means for all of Rick's adaptation projects. Jake Abel also had some thoughts on the subject! We'll keep you up to date on the strike going forward! The Sun and the Star book tour — Boston (00:33:34) Karen details her night at the Boston tour stop! Go follow Liam T. Crowley on Twitter if you haven't already. It was awesome seeing Rick and Mark BUT KAREN GOT TO SEE BECKY. We are not going to include the interview in this week's episode for some very valid reasons, and we promise the wait will be worth it! Karen almost walked out on stage on accident! And she almost didn't get her signed copy! Mark and Rick were both fantastic, but tbh Steph Lurie stole the show. This show was so amazing, and the energy levels never dropped, from start to finish. Why did Rick choose Mark to co-write this book with him? Can you guess the title of Mark's first book, which they wrote when they were nine? Mark drew the map that ended up on the endpapers, and the original version is hilarious and amazing. They were each asked which part of the book was their favorite. Becky came out on stage, and the crowd went wild! Karen teases the interview for the first time, but definitely not the last. Go read books from Rick Riordan Presents! Everyone loves Roshani Chokshi, as they should!! Don't forget that there are still graphic novels of Rick's books coming out! Everyone is super excited for the Kane Chronicles movie, and that made us so happy! We discuss the possibility that the Kane Chronicles movie might not get made (but we agree with Rick that we're guardedly optimistic it will!). What about the Daughter of the Deep movie adaptation? Unsurprisingly, everyone is super, super excited about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians show on Disney+. Rick said his first reaction to seeing the principal photography was relief. Rick has learned so much from Mark's writing! Mark also got to talk about all of their books that they've published! Could you ever write the last line of a book first? How long has Rick known that Nico was gay? Prophecy Radio totally got a name drop during the event! You'd be surprised which is Mark's favorite dinosaur. Which gods would be their parents? Knowing which characters would be a Swiftie is apparently a big deal. Karen teases the interview once again, but it's going to be totally worth it! Did you see the selfie from the Boston tour stop? Stay tuned for our upcoming giveaway! The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid (01:30:00) This week, we're reading The Red Pyramid chapter 9. Who could be sabotaging the House and the kids? Wouldn't it be amazing to have a cat network? Bast is pretty spectacular, and we can't wait to see more of her. Who are the Carriers, and what is their purpose? We learn a little bit more about Bast and how her powers work. Does the Mist exist in this world, or is it something else? What's going on with Bast's role in the Kane siblings' mother's death? Feedback (01:46:36) Thank you for listening to the show, Teddy, and Karen is so sorry she couldn't meet you! Hope you had fun at the show, Elizabeth! And thank you to everyone else for the kind words about interviewing Rick and Mark! LJ wrote in with some wild theories about The Sun and the Star. We rectify a major mistake and read out Henry's The Sun and the Star theory. TJ writes in with some kind words about the podcast and asks us a very important question, which is accompanied by a super cute picture. Crystal is super excited for The Sun and the Star, and that makes us so happy! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 83, where we'll talk about The Sun and the Star (with spoiler-free AND spoiler-filled sections), plus an interview with Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro. Special guest Andy Hicks stops by to dish some hot takes about the third installment of the Percy Jackson series. In The Titan's Curse, Percy and his friends journey across the country to rescue the goddess Artemis, battle monsters along the way, and struggle against a prophecy of doom that could mean the end of the world as they know it. We discuss Artemis' band of Hunters and the gender binary, whether loyalty can be a fatal flaw, and what it really means to be a good hero. A warning: the ancient Greeks were NSFW, so we followed in their footsteps. Listen at your own peril! Prophecy Radio episode #74 dives into Egyptian mythology for the first time! We tackle some of the most important gods in the pantheon so we can be a little more familiar with the subject ahead of our Kane Chronicles discussion. As always, we also catch you up on all the latest Riordanverse news, including the official synopsis for The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi, as well as the dates for Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro's in-person The Sun and the Star book tour. Lastly, we kick off our Kane Chronicles read with The Red Pyramid chapter 1. Remember, we're keeping this discussion spoiler-free! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:06:48) Are we going to change the name of our podcast? Spoiler alert: No. If you're interested in Kristen's favorite Best Picture nominees for the 2023 Oscars, be sure to read her article! And don't forget to read Nichole's article about Everything Everywhere All at Once. Becky has been reading along to Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods 50 pages at a time, and it's really channeling the kids from the show. Read Riordan gave us the official synopsis for The Spirit Glass by Roshani Chokshi, as well as an exclusive look at Rick's introduction to the book. If we weren't already excited for this one, Rick's high praise definitely would've done the trick. Rick also posted a March 9 blog post in which he gave us the dates for his The Sun and the Star book tour with Mark Oshiro. Yes, the rumors are true—Karen will be at the Boston stop! Keep an eye on Rick and Mark's Twitter for when the NYC tickets go live. These two will also be at the ALA conference in Chicago, which takes place June 22-27. This is for librarians, though, so it's pretty expensive if you're not a member! Introducing the Egyptian gods (00:18:32) This is going to be a brief overview because there are literally hundreds of gods we could talk about. Karen got her list from Britannica. Starting off with Osiris, did you know he used to be a king? Getting reassembled doesn't sound too fun, but at least it came with a promotion. But was he eternally moldy? Isis was Osiris' wife and embodied the traditional virtues of a wife and mother. She also had a lot to do with mourning and funeral rites. Even though she sounds a bit like Hera, she was more closely identified with Aphrodite. And her depictions with her son, Horus, could've influenced depictions of Mary with Jesus. Next up is Horus, the sky god, who was associated with war and hunting. So many of the Egyptians gods were shown as animals or as humans with the head of an animal. Imagine being raised to avenge your father's murder. No pressure! Did you know that the moon is actually Horus' left eye? Set is definitely NOT the god of desserts. We wonder what kind of mythical creature he was supposed to be. Have you heard of Ptah before? What about his wife, Sekhmet, or his son, Nefertem? Ra, the sun god, is one of the most well-known Egyptian gods, and he sounds a little like Apollo. Is there a reason why Ra sailed in a boat and Apollo drove a chariot? We definitely get a lesson on how Amun-Ra came to prominence. Who would win a fight, Amun-Ra or Apollo? How does Hathor differ from Isis? It kind of makes sense that Hathor was associated with cows. Next up is Anubis, which is another very well-known Egyptian god. Any fans of The Mummy here!? A lot of the gods are associated with funerary rites. Everybody gets a patron god, even embalmers! Thoth is the scribe of the gods, and we get Hermes vibes from him. He also has the very important job of weighing the hearts of the deceased. Have you heard of the goddess Bast? Even though she used to be associated with wild cats, she's since taken the likeness of a domestic cat. Of course Kristen has a West Wing story for this. It makes sense she was associated with Artemis, the hunter goddess. The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid (00:41:49) This week, we're reading The Red Pyramid chapter 1. Kristen and Karen decide to share their dreams even though it has nothing to do with the book. This opening chapter really sets up the dynamic between Carter, Sadie, and their dad, plus makes you ask a lot of questions. It also totally gives us some Percy Jackson vibes thanks to the warning in the beginning. Does Kristen have any guesses as to what the item in the locker could possibly be? Carter and Sadie are very different, and they hardly see each other, so they're not even really friends. Do Carter's grandparents not like him either? We can't wait for the Netflix adaptation of this book! Muffin HAS to be important, right!? Guess which Kane sibling we relate to most? Guess what? Karen has totally seen Cleopatra's Needle in person! Does Kristen have any idea what's going on with their dad? What do we think of the siblings so far? Feedback (01:11:01) Caoimhe writes in to remind us that Hecate is associated with The Mist. She also gives us a great idea for a future episode of the show. We love hearing from our listeners! Henry also wrote in to bring up a couple fantastic points. Do we think they'll show Hestia in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1? Which book does Henry like the least? What about the most? Favorite character? How do we feel about a Percy Jackson audio drama? Katherine writes in to talk about why she loves Titan's Curse. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 75, where we'll discuss how Greek and Egyptian mythology may have influenced each other before tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 2. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #73 looks back on our re-read of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Which book is our favorite? Did any of our opinions change now that we're older and wiser? We also tackle all the latest Riordanverse news, including more information about Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods and some books from a few Rick Riordan Presents authors we think you might like. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:02:59) We're back to talk about Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods because Read Riordan had a little teaser about what the chickens will get up to in this story. Rick also wrote a blog on February 24 that gave us some information about the UK and international additions, as well as signed copies. We've heard variations of his answer before, but we discuss the latest bit of information regarding whether there will be more Percy Jackson books after Chalice of the Gods. If you love Magnus Chase and Alex Fierro, then Read Riordan has the article for you! Karen wrote a book review for The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi, so be sure to check that out. And don't forget that Lucha of the Night Forest by Tehlor Kay Mejia and Into the Light by Mark Oshiro both come out soon! Percy Jackson and the Olympians Retrospective (00:13:16) Now that we've finished all five books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, we're doing a bit of a retrospective to see how we feel about them overall. Even though we all remember what happens in The Lightning Thief, we revisit it for reasons. This book is so good at introducing us to this world and the characters that occupy it. Can you imagine if someone was like nah, we don't need anymore books about Percy Jackson? These kids were SO YOUNG, and things just keep getting darker as they grow up. Moving on to Sea of Monsters, it's apparent that this book laid a lot of groundwork for character development. It was nice to see more Clarisse, but this book also brought us Tyson!!! He's so genuine and loveable. He was really the perfect character to teach Percy and Annabeth a valuable lesson. As we start talking about Titan's Curse, we confess which books are our least favorites (but we swear we still love them!). Annabeth is gone for SO LONG in this book. The Hunters of Artemis are so iconic, and it's pretty cool to meet and get to know Artemis better. On a scale from approachable to aloof, where do all of the gods land? We get to say hello to Nico, but we also have to say goodbye to Bianca. Battle of the Labyrinth is such a dense book because there's so much going on. We also have to balance a lot of characters in this book, both new and old. Nico has a lot of feelings, and we can't say we blame him. The Labyrinth is a character in and of itself. That battle at Camp Half-Blood was a lot more significant than we first realized. Now we're onto the The Last Olympian There's a lot of Backstory! in this book. We kind of love that the Battle of Manhattan takes up so much room. That final confrontation is iconic, and so is Percy's decision to turn down immortality. Btw, Percabeth is a go. All right, what's our favorite book, and why? It's difficult choosing a favorite character, but we've got some pretty solid options. There are so many iconic moments from the books, and we can't wait to see them in the show. We should've totally planned to pick out our favorite creatures/monsters, too. We have a lot of favorite quotes to choose from, and it was tough to decide. This time, we stayed away from Percabeth quotes when we could, since we just talked about them in the last episode. This is yet another reminder that Rick is SO good at first lines. Now that we've really dissected these books, did we have any changes of heart? Did anything surprise us? Lastly, what are we looking forward to seeing the most when we finally get to Heroes of Olympus? Feedback (01:29:51) Nicolaas writes in to give us his answers to all our same questions. Karen's in the hot seat…is she gonna be replaced!? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 74, where we'll do an overview of the Egyptian gods before tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 1. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #71 celebrates Percabeth in honor of Valentine's Day, and we can't wait to talk about how naturally their relationship evolved over the course of all five Percy Jackson and the Olympians books. Plus, we talk about all the latest news in the Riordanverse, including the the Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies sequel title, as well as read and discuss “Percy Jackson and the Staff of Hermes.” Honestly, we kind of impressed ourselves this week, because it was the perfect story to read alongside our PercyxAnnabeth discussion. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:03:06) The Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief movie has been out for 13 years! It once again makes us appreciate how long it's taken to get a faithful adaptation of this book. Read Riordan posted a belated Valentine's Day gift guide from some overlooked demigods. While Rachel Elizabeth Dare isn't a demigod, her answer was probably the best out of all of them. There was also a cute little interview between Rick Riordan and Stacey Lee, and we even found out the name of the Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies sequel! Daniel José Older's shop is now open, which means you can get signed copies of his stuff! Jason Gray Stanford has confirmed he'll be in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 as Maron the satyr. Percabeth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) (00:10:55) Valentine's Day seemed like the perfect excuse to talk about Percabeth—especially because we just finished the first series! Let's talk about where they started out in Lightning Thief. It was kind of nice they were strangers and then became friends because of their quest. That Athena vs. Poseidon rivalry is REAL. Grover is the common denominator between these two. That, and being a demigod. That first Seaweed Brain is truly something special. Next up is Sea of Monsters, and things are TENSE. That being said, Annabeth really opens up in this book, though that was sort of out of her control. What's a little kiss on the cheek amongst friends? Titan's Curse is where the feelings start coming hard and fast. The idea of Annabeth becoming a Hunter of Artemis is…not ideal. We hope there's lots of Leah in this season of the show. Aphrodite definitely helps Percy realize his feelings are not just platonic. In Battle of the Labyrinth we get a real kiss! Unfortunately, confusion over Luke, Rachel, and Calypso means these two aren't really on the same page. This extends to The Last Olympian, where they're separated for a good chunk of the book. But that doesn't mean Annabeth wouldn't sacrifice her life for Percy! And what does Percy do in return? Decline immortality, of course. That underwater kiss means these two are definitely together! Was this a fitting conclusion to their relationship? Thank goodness we'll get more in the Heroes of Olympus series. We've both got some favorite moments we want to talk about in depth. And a couple favorite lines that are super special, too. We'll have to do this again when we finish the Heroes of Olympus series. “Percy Jackson and the Staff of Hermes” (00:57:16) We still can't get over how perfect it was that we picked “The Staff of Hermes” to read this week. Percy and Annabeth have been together for one month now! Kristen really felt for Percy in this opening scene. HERNIAS ARE US. Wait, no. That's not right. Karen can appreciate the Mortal Kombat reference, even if it wasn't spelled correctly. Poor George and Martha! This story confirms Luke had feelings for Annabeth, which we're just gonna gloss over. More interestingly, it seems like all has NOT been forgiven between Annabeth and Hermes. It sounds like Janus is still messing up network television. Percy agrees to a deal with Hermes, and they have to stop using Annabeth's shield for a cheese platter. Cacus' hideout was, like, super disgusting. That said, we actually kind of liked him? He has that entrepreneurial spirit! The staff being stolen is kind of a big deal, and this story has a lot more impact on the canon of the series than “The Singer of Apollo” did. Annabeth's shield gets destroyed here, which explains why we don't remember it from the rest of the series! Percy's “solution” to their problem wasn't great. LASER MODE is pretty cool, albeit dangerous. Don't try this at home, kids. HER NAME IS ANNABETH AND SHE'S ONE OF A KIND. With Cacus defeated, Percy and Annabeth get to go on a lovely date for their one-month anniversary. Feedback (01:22:00) JustAPositiveGuy has a great headcanon for Percabeth. Krose reminds us how many great moments for Annabeth and Percy there will be in Heroes of Olympus. We also asked everyone what Percy would've become the god of, and we got some truly inspired answers. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 72, where we'll discuss Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies by Stacey Lee. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then discuss our What If…? season 3 scenarios—aka the Titan's Curse edition—as well as review Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth chapters 3 and 4. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:00:54) Read Riordan tells us what to do in the event we lose our divine weapon. It's amazing to see how many Rick Riordan Presents books you can read to celebrate AANHPI month! Who doesn't want some PJOTV news!? We recently found out Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 1 will start filming on June 2. We also learned they recently did a table read and that Becky is SUPER excited for the actor playing Chiron. Social media is great for BTS videos and pictures. Make sure you're following the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast. But it's smart to keep in mind that not every kid they're hanging out with is going to be on the show. James Bobin is testing the cameras, and even that makes us emotional. Mark Oshiro says the Solangelo book is done with the major edits! We also learned about how long it is, and we are so excited! Did you see the trailer for Idris Elba Leah's new movie, Beast? Mark your calendars! The Last Fallen Moon by Graci Kim now has a new release date. What If…? season 3—Titan's Curse (00:19:44) You can listen to What If…? season 1 on Prophecy Radio episode #9 and What If…? season 2 on Prophecy Radio episode #23. Thanks, Rachel, for reminding us about doing one for Titan's Curse! Should we do an episode about how they could've improved the movies with a Titan's Curse adaptation? This book has a lot of pivotal moments and makes for a great What If…? episode. Karen wonders what if…Zoë had survived? Thalia would be the likely target for the one dying at their parent's hand, but what if it was Percy instead? Kristen wants to know what if…Dr. Chase was a terrible father? This could have major ripple effects down the line. Karen now needs to know what if…Percy never met Rachel Elizabeth Dare at the Hoover Dam? This might not have made as much of an impact down the line, but would Percy and Annabeth have gone on their date!? Now Kristen is curious what if…Luke let Annabeth die? We're gonna go ahead and just say no to this whole scenario. Fast-forwarding to Karen's next question: What if…Luke had died at the end of the book? Who would've become Kronos' vessel? Kristen's actually got a nice one now: What if…Nico didn't blame Percy for Bianca's death? Would it have taken a lot longer to find out who Nico's godly parent was? Thank you to everyone who wrote in their own What If…? scenarios! What…if Luke had been the one turned into a tree? What if…Percy had gone missing instead of Annabeth? What if…Nico, Bianca, and Percy had never gone outside with Dr. Thorne? What if…Zoë had killed Atlas? What if…Nico snuck away on the quest like Percy? Battle of the Labyrinth chapter reviews (00:56:52) We're so happy we're back to reading our chapters for the week! It's time to talk about Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 3! We finally find out what Clarisse's secret quest was! By the way, we're totally here for this Clarisse and Annabeth friendship. Luke trying to navigate the labyrinth is…not a good thing. Rick's concept of Ariadne's string is really interesting here. Pan being trapped in the labyrinth would make SO much sense. We are totally here for Annabeth breaking some rules. Is it weird we're kind of into the war games? Thank goodness Annabeth knows…everything. The labyrinth is a little timey-wimey. Grover, as always, has genius comedic timing. Everything has been building to Percabeth, and we are HERE for it. Now it's time for Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 4! Prophecy Count #16! It's more of a dream of the past than anything else, but it totally counts. We're so glad we did a Monster Guide episode on the Minotaur! It's not often Clarisse has emotions other than anger, but we love her growth. Can we make going to the Oracle a little less dangerous?? We want Quintus to be good, but he's super suspicious. Callie weighs in on Theseus, son of Poseidon. Does Clarisse have feelings about Chris Rodriguez? Prophecy Count #17! It's a very important prophecy, and Annabeth is totally not fooling into believing she forgot the last lines. Annabeth breaks the rules AGAIN. But it's so nice to see Annabeth and Tyson's relationship growing stronger. Single-use items are THE WORST. Okay, BUT THE PERCABETH HUG!? Grover really, really doesn't like caves. Callie stole Kristen's favorite moment—how rude! The Percabeth hug really was the best part of this chapter, though. Feedback (01:29:47) Caoimhe writes in again and makes us feel AWESOME. We're REALLY excited to start the Kane Chronicles series. And, oh boy, she likes the longer episodes! Can you tell our voices apart yet? Check out Prophecy Radio episode #4 for our Daughter of the Deep discussion. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 35, in which we may do a Percy Jackson and the Olympians fancasting roundup OR we might do a Monster Guide on hellhounds. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then talk about Ballad & Dagger by Daniel José Older as well as interview the man himself! We're also taking the week off from our Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth re-read. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:33) #LastOlympianWeek is over, but we want more!! Walker Scobell was at the Disney Upfront event, but we didn't get anything about Percy Jackson and the Olympians. We did get this article from People that talks about Walker wanting to speak with Logan Lerman. Read Riordan also debuted the cover for Winston Chu vs. the Whimsies by Stacey Lee. We try to figure out what ~vibes~ it gives us and whether or not those are eyeballs. There's also an official synopsis, and we are SO intrigued! Ballad & Dagger (00:10:05) You can check out Karen's spoiler-free Ballad & Dagger book review on Subjectify. This is the first young adult book from Rick Riordan Presents, but could younger readers still enjoy it? We take a stab at explaining this book in just a couple of sentences. What were our initial thoughts on Ballad & Dagger? San Madrigal is like a character in its own right. Kristen throws out some Florida slander. Can you imagine Lin-Manuel Miranda and Daniel José Older working on a project together!? No cops allowed! Mateo is a true delight, and we love him so much. The way Mateo interprets the world through music had a huge impact on us. Mateo is an extremely anxious person, and it's very relatable. The way Mateo heals people is super unique, and we loved it! Kristen is champing at the bit to talk about Tams. Tía Lucía is a firecracker, and we definitely loved her, even if she was infuriating sometimes. How could we forget about Farts!? Chela Hidalgo is way too cool for us. Let's take a second to appreciate the Ballad & Dagger cover. We love Chela's dad, and her cousin, who wasn't what we expected! Okay, let's talk about Gerval. How did we feel about the fact that Gerval brought San Madrigal to the outside world? Was it difficult for Karen or Kristen to understand all the Spanish in this book? The dialog in this book in general is SO GOOD. So, the monsters in this book were kind of scary! The spoiler section starts at 50:40. Continue to the interview below if you want to skip this part! THIS IS YOUR LAST SPOILER WARNING!! Tía Lucía's death was kind of violent and really sad! Were we worried when Mateo took in that shard of death? Mateo's powers are SO COOL AND INTERESTING!! Chela and Mateo's kiss was so soft and tender and beautiful. DJO went there with San Madrigal's history, and we were glad to see it. It was also awesome to see how all of these religions blend together. Was it a surprise that Gerval turned out to be a bad guy? Spoiler alert for Moana! There was a really good twist to the end of this book. The end of Ballad & Dagger is truly beautiful. Spoiler alert for Star Wars! We're SO excited for the Ballad & Dagger sequel. Interview with Daniel José Older(01:09:07) Does Daniel have any weird quirks when it comes to his writing process? Have you listened to the Ballad & Dagger playlist yet? What about any go-to snacks? Daniel DOES listen to music when he writes, and nobody is surprised. Did you know he's also composed a song for something he wrote previously? Is there a part of the editing process that Daniel hates more than others? We also find out his star sign! What was it like joining the Rick Riordan Presents family? Did you know Ballad & Dagger was initially a middle-grade novel? We even find out what the original title would've been! Daniel also reveals what the process was like regarding Ballad & Dagger's cover (shoutout to Irvin Rodriguez). What was the hardest part and the easiest part of creating this story? What's the most important thing a writer can do? There IS a title for book 2! Daniel also gives us a little teaser about the Ballad & Dagger sequel. Who would be Daniel's godly parent? And what Rick Riordan Presents world would he like to live in? Is there a Star Wars story that he personally wishes they would bring to Disney+? Daniel gives some really great advice for writers. He also talks about what other projects he has coming up, including a co-written graphic novel called Death's Day. Feedback (01:31:15) Megan sent in this awesome video of a curious octopus because it reminded her of Daughter of the Deep. We managed to convince Ian to rewatch the Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief movie just so he could complain about it along with us. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 34, in which we go through our What If…? season 3 ideas centered around Titan's Curse. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then talk about the short story “Percy Jackson and the Stolen Chariot,” as well as start Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth with chapters 1 and 2. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:23) #LastOlympianWeek is officially over, and we are sad about it! Rick put up a blog on May 8, 2022 talking about his first week in the office. It must be so strange having a 9-5 job for the first time in 20 years! There are so many people making decisions about this show, creating something truly spectacular for us. Did you go back and reread “A God Buys us a Cheeseburgers”? The trio is getting along so well! And Walker is so funny. It's so awesome to hear Rick say the casting was 100% his choice. Rick also gives us a little history lesson when it comes to Athena's eye color. Poor Leah has been getting harassed, and it needs to stop. Becky talked about how we can't give space to hate speech and not to fan the flames of this hate we're seeing. She also talks about the intersectionality of racism and misogyny. And then Rick wrote his second blog post on May 10, 2022. If you're mad about the casting, take it up with Rick, not Leah. Even though Leah is confident, she shouldn't be seeing this. Rick doesn't pull any punches, saying this is blatant racism. It's been really wonderful seeing Rick grow as a writer and a person over the years, and being there to learn alongside him. We're so excited Rick gets an adaptation he'll be proud of. Alexandria Daddario is excited for the show and says Leah will be an incredible Annabeth. Remember to show your love with #LeahIsOurAnnabeth. Happy birthday, Kwame Mbalia! And happy 13th anniversary to The Last Olympian! “Percy Jackson and the Stolen Chariot” (00:25:45) You can read “Percy Jackson and the Stolen Chariot” here: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 When does this story take place within the PJO timeline? What's the difference between Phobos and Deimos? We know Clarisse is a bully, but she's also kind of a badass. Have you ever visited Ares' temple in New York? Ares is the absolute worst. Percy, on the other hand, is the absolute best. And Phobos was shaking in his boots when he meets our little demigod hero. Sea serpents are just big babies. The Mist is really working overtime in this story. Can mortal children see through the Mist easier? We learn Percy's worst fear thanks to Phobos. Do we meet Phobos again in the future? We also find out Clarisse's worst fear, and there's a nice moment between her and Percy here. We get a little emotional about Clarisse and Percy being friends. Percy's powers are growing, and it's awesome to see. Chapter Reviews (00:47:28) We're so excited to be starting on a new book! Let's begin with Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 1. Kristen is full of jokes today. Percy is totally NOT going on a date with Annabeth. And he has another run-in with the Notorious R.E.D. How is Rachel Elizabeth Dare not totally crazy after everything she's seen? Did Percy make the right call by telling Rachel that the Greek myths are real? Did the empousai really inspire the myth of the vampire? Poor Percy is not starting off this year on the right foot. Rachel seems to be a pretty good friend, even if they did JUST meet. Onto Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 2! What are Annabeth and Clarisse up to?? Who the heck is Quintus??? We really just want to talk about Mrs. O'Leary. What's with this Master Chiron business? We also forgot Juniper was introduced this early!! It's going to be so satisfying when Grover proves the Council of Cloven Elders wrong! Why won't Annabeth explain ANYTHING? It's so STRESSFUL. Tyson is such a delight and contains multitudes. Nico is burning his mythomagic cards to stay warm. :(((( He's already changed so much since Titan's Curse! How long has Nico been able to talk to ghosts? Is the ghost keeping Bianca away, or is there another reason why Nico can't talk to her? Who sent this Iris message!? Not to mention…who is this ghost whispering in Nico's ears!? Why is the fact that the she-demons are stirring such a big deal?? We've got some merch ideas for Disney+. Feedback (01:25:24) Caoimhe wrote in to give us her thoughts on Annabeth. Don't worry, we'll definitely get to the other gods, like Athena and Aprhodite, soon! Which app is better for news and which is better for artwork? We also announce which series we'll be tackling once we're done with Percy Jackson and the Olympians! Also thanks to Rachel for reminding Karen about the What If…? episode for Titan's Curse. And we welcome Ian to the Prophecy Radio family! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 33, in which we'll talk about Ballad & Dagger and have a chat with Daniel José Older! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom (including the casting of Annabeth and Grover), then do a deep dive on Hades, god of the Underworld (plus fancast him for Percy Jackson and the Olympians), as well as finish out Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse with chapters 19 and 20. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:31) #BattleOfTheLabyrinthWeek is wrapping up, just in time for #LastOlympianWeek! May 3 saw a lot of book releases, including Francis Discovers Possible by Ashlee Latimer and Ballad & Dagger by Daniel José Older. Read Karen's Ballad & Dagger book review. You can also go to Read Riordan to find Rick's introduction to Ballad & Dagger. You can also now buy the Percy Jackson books with covers by Victo Ngai. That Hashtag Show reported casting information for Clarisse La Rue and Nancy Bobofit. In Rick's May 5 blog post, he tells us…THE TRIO IS COMPLETE. Please welcome Aryan Simhadri as Grover! Have you seen Cheaper By the Dozen on Disney+? Because we haven't. Aryan seems like such a cool kid, and everything about him screams Grover. Also welcome Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth! She's had some pretty major roles, too! Remember, according to Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan, Leah is exactly the way he always imagined Annabeth. Let's just talk about it: There's been a lot of vitriol surrounding Annabeth's casting, and it seems clear why. Our listeners are great, but we just want to remind people of the #PJOCastDeservesRespect campaign anyway. If Rick is happy, we're happy. The artwork of the trio is already so good! We have an official Twitter and Instagram account for the show! Becky says the fans scooped up all the good handles lol. Make sure you check out #PJOSeriesArt. Deep Dive: Hades (00:32:16) There is a lot to discuss when it comes to Hades. Do we feel bad for Hades? Zeus is such a butt face. Did he rig the game when they were picking their domains? There are SO many Hades and Persephone retellings, so go looking for them! Persephone eating those pomegranate seeds was a super big deal. Hades was a decent guy…for a god. Zeus straight up just complicated everything. Hades needs to go to Kidnappers Anonymous. But even his affairs weren't as bad as, say, Zeus'. It's interesting to see how the Underworld has evolved over time. And especially amazing to see how he figured out the best way to communicate new death rites to the human race. Did you know Cerberus was a DOG SNAKE? What does Hades look like in the Percy Jackson series? Karen and Kristen get hung up on the word bident. Hades has a lot of abilities. Like a lot a lot. Umbrakinesis is a cool power and more superheroes should have it. We want Mythomagic to be real! Hades is actually a pretty hard worker, which is probably a good thing. It's FINALLY time for our Hades casting. Karen's got jokes. But her first pick is actually someone we've talked about before. Kristen's first choice is someone who has the ability to truly become the character they're portraying. Karen's second pick might be kind of obvious, but he'd be SO GOOD. Kristen's next choice is NO JOKE. Just think about it. Karen's third choice has been in the running for a few others, but she's finally decided to go for it. Kristen's third pick is a combo package, and both people can totally pull off pale. Karen picked a pretty wholesome looking guy for her last choice, but she thinks it could work! Kristen cannot be stopped, and she's got TWO more candidates for Hades left. Shout-out to Alan Rickman for being our dream pick, though. If you're looking for a classically handsome Hades, Kristen's got the actor for you. Kristen's number one choice gives serious Alan Rickman vibes, so he'd be perfect! We also had a couple listeners write in with their own Hades fancasts! Chapter Reviews (01:41:16) It's time to finish up this book, starting with Titan's Curse chapter 19! This book is pretty pivotal to the entire Percy Jackson series. We meet some gods we haven't seen before! Is Athena's fatal flaw her lack of emotion? There are some really fantastic Percabeth moments in these chapters. Did it make sense that Thalia joined the Hunters? Percy Jackson is The One. Why did Ares want to destroy the ophiotaurus? The way the music worked was pretty cool. We learn what Percy's fatal flaw is, and…it makes a lot of sense, tbh. Percy and Annabeth finally get their moment! They have gray streaks that *match* exactly. It's time to talk about Titan's Curse chapter 20. PROTECT TYSON AT ALL COSTS. Percy and Tyson's relationship has come so far. And can we just talk about how mature Percy is!? Who's more terrifying, Ares or Aphrodite? We get an update on pretty much everyone. Why did they wait to tell Nico about Bianca until Percy got there? Hello Nico di Angelo, son of Hades! We only got ONE hint about the di Angelos' lineage—did you catch it? Percy taking on the prophecy is…heavy. It's awesome that we're still talking about Pan, even in the third book. That's a wrap! We're so excited about Battle of the Labyrinth! Feedback (02:22:17) Will we ever discuss what kind of music we would like to see in the show? When will this show take place? It's so fun when new people find us! Keep reading the Rick Riordan Presents books!! We also got another Ares fancast, and Karen gives everyone her true reactions. Thanks to Henry for his correction about Chris Wood! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 32, where we'll discuss the short story “Percy Jackson and the Stolen Chariot” (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) from the Demigod Files. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Each episode, our Prophecy Radio hosts and their guests will keep you up to date on the latest information coming out of Camp Half-Blood, including upcoming books and adaptation news, discuss a topic of choice, and do a chapter by chapter reread of the Percy Jackson series. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then do a deep dive on the god of war himself, Ares (plus fancast him for Percy Jackson and the Olympians), as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 17 and 18. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:47) Did anyone enjoy #TitansCurseWeek? Oh well, hope you're prepared for #BattleOfTheLabyrinthWeek! If you've read Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, then you already know who Rudy Rocks is. With Ballad and Dagger coming out this week, it's time to meet Mateo Matisse and Chela Hidalgo. We also got some great book news this week! First up, Pahua and the Soul Stealer by Lori M. Lee is getting TWO sequels. We also have an official title for City of the Plague God book 2. Plus, Sarwat Chadda is designing his own cover! Then Kristen surprises Karen with even more news—Tiger Honor by Yoon Ha Lee is getting a sequel. Everyone is highly anticipating Percy Jackson and the Olympians casting, especially because we just found out our Grover is headed to Vancouver. And don't worry! There WILL be more updates soon. By the way, Rick doesn't mind if the cast of the musical (or probably the show) signs your books! How do we get our hands on some blue candy? Becky and the kids helped Rick with research for Sea of Monsters! Isn't that nice? Say hello to the Koningsdam. Walker Scobell did an interview with Rolling Stone in which he talked about reading Percy Jackson for the first time. Deep Dive: Ares (00:17:29) Ares was a fun god to do, especially after the craziness that was Zeus. What does Ares look like according to Greek mythology? Why does Ares have so many sacred animals? We debate poisonous versus venomous. We also learn the differences between Ares and Athena, as deities of war. Ares is so much more than just the god of war. Is Ares a coward? Ares' fortress in Thrace sounds kind of awesome, to be honest. What would YOU be the god of? You won't be too surprised when you learn who worshiped Ares. We don't want to know how Ares wound up with dragon sons. Now we know who to blame for those skeleton warriors, and it isn't Ares!! It should come as no surprise that Ares was put on trial for murder. What is Ares like in the Percy Jackson books? It's always interesting how we envision characters in a book differently than they're described. A baseball bat is the perfect weapon for his spear to turn into. Wait, how big is his motorcycle!? Never forget the seat made of Caucasian human skin. Ares is definitely an iconic character. Karen's first pick would be perfect based on looks alone, but he's a little too old. Meanwhile, Kristen's least likely pick would be awesome but he doesn't usually play outright villains. Karen's next pick is a Sons of Anarchy alum, but maybe not the one you're thinking. Kristen's next choice is definitely a pretty boy, but she's very certain he could pull off being Ares. The first person Karen thought of is someone we all know, and he's played good guys and bad guys alike. We take a break and play a little bit of word association. Kristen's next pick is used to playing big, intimidating characters. Karen's top choice will come as no surprise to anyone who knows her. Kristen's final choice has played an extremely evil character in the past. We had a listener write in with her own pick for Ares! Never Doubt Rick Riordan. Chapter Reviews (01:03:52) We're getting close to the end of the book! Starting off, let's get into Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapter 17. Thalia seems a lot more herself in this chapter. “The sky still yearns to embrace the earth.” We discuss the importance of that grey streak in Annabeth's hair. Why did Percy's sword fail him? Percy is so brave! He's such a fantastic character. Thank goodness for Mr. Chase. Thalia versus Luke was a pretty awesome scene. How would we have felt if Luke had died at the end of this chapter? Is that REALLY where the story of Santa Clause came from? It's so amazing to see how far Percy has come with Thalia and Zoë. Now it's time for Titan's Curse chapter 18. This one was pretty rough. But once again we have to shout-out Mr. Chase trying his best. How does one monster-proof a house? Asking for a friend. Annabeth ran away for the first time when she was seven. Is her dad really the same person he was back then? The fact that their relationship is messy is actually quite realistic, and it's good for kids to see in media. Zoë's death scene was brutal. How long did she know she was the one from the prophecy? We get to meet some new pegasi. Annabeth and Percy should've hugged!! So, Luke is totally not dead. What now!? And why was Annabeth so certain about that? Would Percy have felt Luke deserved to die if he hadn't just lost Bianca and Zoë? Karen's up to her usual terrible jokes. Feedback (01:45:40) Jessica asks us how long Annabeth held up the sky, and we try our best to figure it out. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 31, where we'll do a deep dive on the god Hades and discuss our fancasting for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. It has been a very long time. My fellow book readers and pjo fans, I am very sorry for not posting anything for a long while. It's currently at least 11:15 pm and I'm trying to do this as fast as possible. Sooooo… I am very sorry for only posting a part 1 with the other things I apologized for. Part 2 will come sooner or later depending on my ✨MOOD✨
Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then discuss Walker Scobell in The Adam Project and how he'll make the perfect Percy, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 15 and 16. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:12) #SeaOfMonstersWeek is coming to a close, but we're primed and ready for #TitansCurseWeek! April 19 seemed to be a pretty big day for book releases. First up, we've got the Aru Shah and the End of Time graphic novel. Oh, and don't miss the Jambavan article on Read Riordan. Then we've got Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse (book 2 in the Between Earth and Sky series). Lastly, don't forget about Flirting with Fate by J.C. Cervantes. This week, we also got the announcement of Roshani Chokshi's new book, The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. Rick thanks the fans for putting Daughter of the Deep on the NYT bestsellers list for 25 weeks, and gives us an update on the screenplay. We also get a little update on the Kane Chronicles movie, as well as the Solaneglo book. Did you catch the chat between Rick Riordan and Daniel José Older? Do you know what well-known author helped him come up with the title Ballad & Dagger? We've also got a brand new Rick blog post to discuss! First up, a reminder that Rick is no longer on social media and that Ashlee Latimer posts from his accounts. Annabeth and Grover casting will be soon! Will Walker dye his hair black? Does Rick care if Annabeth is blonde? And we get some more reassurance that this adaptation is going to be awesome. The Adam Project starring Walker Scobell (00:21:27) How did we feel about The Adam Project the first time we watched it? What about the second? Surprising no one, we both really loved this one. Ryan Reynolds is always funny, but Walker really held his own. We talk about our favorite scenes and lines from the movie—ones that really remind us of Percy Jackson. There are even some shots from the movie that look like they could be from the show. Walker is going to be such a sassy Percy, and we are ready for it! Can't you just imagine him going toe-to-toe with Ares? Walker is a great physical actor, and that's going to come in handy for this show. Adam and his mom's relationship is a little snarkier than Percy and Sally's, but we can't wait to see it play out on screen. Speaking of moms, did you recognize Catherine Keener? The Maya/Adam standoff is not wholly unlike the Ares/Percy standoff. We're still curious how that scene at the end is going to play out. It's totally a lightsaber. There are so many scenes from Lightning Thief that will be awesome to see on screen, especially now that we know Walker is playing Percy. The Adam Project proves Walker Scobell has the capacity to do all sorts of roles. We're so excited for this!!! Chapter Reviews (00:41:43) Kristen's really working on those brief recaps. It's time to discuss Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapter 15! Hank and Chuck were pretty fantastic. But what does it look like back at the dam with the statues missing? It's cool that Sally can see through the Mist. There is so much more Rachel Elizabeth Dare to come. Nereus is basically a fish leprechaun. Karen stands by her love of Bessie. Did you know the origins of the manticore? Was Dr. Thorn or Kronos weaving some sort of magic over Thalia, or was she simply thinking the whole situation through? After all, she has valid reasons to be mad at Zeus and the Olympians. Maybe Mr. D does care about Peter Johnson? This whole scene was pretty spectacular. Now it's time for Titan's Curse chapter 16! We finally know for sure who Zoë's hero was. Can you believe Percy sacrificed the Nimean lion skin? Is no one worried about Grover!? The Chases are kind of…great? It was so interesting meeting Annabeth's dad for the first time. We don't blame her for not always getting along with him, but there's also no malice on his end, so it's easy to forgive him. You can definitely tell why Athena fell in love with him. Zeus made the wrong move trying to get rid of Thalia. And what about Percy and Zoë!? Atlas is not the nicest guy. Percy and Annabeth's reunion was supercharged, and we're here for it.. Feedback (01:20:22) Laura agrees with us—Tyson is the best! Huge thanks to Nicolaas for being impressed by our varied casting choices for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 30, where we'll talk about the god Ares and discuss our fancasting for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Lauren and Lochlyn are diving into season three and book three: The Titan's Curse. In this first chapter, they discuss their continued love of Sally, Thalia's character now that she has more than a handful of lines, the weird dynamic between her and Percy, and of course, how no one in the group seems to understand how pillars work. The two also have a lofty goal of actually keeping track of things, specifically, will the group ever get their bags back? To find out, grab your nectar and ambrosia as Lauren and Lochlyn get into a new episode, and season, of We Accidentally Vaporied Our Podcast!
Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom (including Walker Scobell's casting as the son of the sea god), then discuss the many crimes of the King of the Olympians himself, Zeus, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 13 and 14. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (01:58:00) Have you been participating in #LightningThiefWeek? Don't forget this week is #SeaOfMonstersWeek. This is all leading up to the release of the new Victo Ngai Percy Jackson and the Olympians covers on May 3. Karen also has a correction for Ballad & Dagger‘s release date from last week's episode. Congratulations to Roshani Chokshi for Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality becoming a NYT bestseller. Have you met Tumburu? If you're new here, make sure you go back and listen to our Roshani Chokshi interview. Remember, you can pre-order Tehlor Kay Meji'a Paola Santiago and the Sanctuary of Shadows, the final book in the series. But don't be sad about it ending because we're gonna get a Disney+ show! The Percy Jackson and the Olympians writer's room has been talking about Procrustes. Yes, it's finally time to talk about it: Percy Jackson and the Olympians has cast Walker Scobell in the titular role. We read Rick's April 11 blog post to celebrate. Here's the infamous Kraft mac & cheese commercial. Make sure you're following Walker's real Twitter and Instagram accounts. Karen's going to keep an article on the show's casting up to date, so make sure you hold her accountable! In case it needs to be said, #PJOCastDeservesRespect. And on that note, let's talk about Annabeth's casting for a minute. Make sure you're not bugging Rick, Becky, or Ashlee about details they don't know or can't share yet! Prophecy Radio is a safe space. Click here if you'd like to listen to Karen's guest spot on #Millennial. Deep Dive: Zeus (00:29:50) Now it's time to talk about the many crimes of Zeus. In case you need a reminder, Zeus doesn't need a bigger ego and Percy is a sass king. Zeus has had multiple wives, but the way he tricked Hera was particularly awful. Can the gods just not eat each other, please? Which of Zeus' many forms is your favorite? Oddly enough, Zeus was also in charge of punishing people because he stood for justice. To be fair, though, no one wants to get zapped by Zeus, so it was a good threat. Too bad he hated mankind. Kristen is offended we might be considered the stone race. But even Zeus isn't above doing time for his crimes. Zeus DID get schooled one time and one time only. But it's not a pretty picture. What was Zeus like in the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles? Who doesn't love a good dramatic exit? Did we remember how Zeus was described in the books? Karen doesn't want Arnold schwarzenegger to be Zeus but he's got the look. Kristen actually does want Tom Felton to be Zeus, even though he's on the younger side. Winston Duke has proven as M'Baku that he can play a mercurial character. Should the show have blind casting for the gods? Kristen's next pick is also a Black Panther alum: Michael B. Jordan. You know who else looks good in a suit? Henry Cavill. Have you heard of Wyatt Russell? If you want another old guy for Zeus, why not Jeff Bridges? Is he TOO old? How would this casting affect the rest of the gods' appearances? Would Dev Patel be better as Zeus or Hades? You know who else gives good beard? Oscar Isaac. The first person who came to Kristen's mind when she heard Zeus' description in the books was Adam Driver. Chapter Reviews (01:12:31) It's time to talk about Titan's Curse chapter 13! Isn't it weird they didn't find Bianca's body? Was Bianca stealing the figurine stupid or sweet? Bianca and Nico spent SO LONG in the Lotus Hotel. Would they have noticed how much things had changed since being in the hotel? How did we feel about Aphrodite's introduction? We're so excited to see how they'll cast her in the show. Has Pan's presence supercharged Grover? We're kind of obsessed with the idea of this junkyard of the gods. Kristen reads her “brief” recap for Titan's Curse chapter 14. What's making Grover so emotional? Percy is a good kid, but it's too bad he has to be the strong one in this situation. We finally find out who Zoe really is and what she's done. Gurgle, gurgle. We all miss Annabeth so much. Who wouldn't want to go to the dam snack bar? Rachel. Elizabeth. Dare. Thank goodness Thalia said please! Feedback (01:41:41) Henry writes in again to ask us a bunch of useful questions! Visit Subjectify Media's Spotify profile for the Prophecy Radio playlists. Yes, we will be discussing each episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and we may even pause our rereads so we have plenty of time for the show. We still have high hopes for interviewing a lot of people related to the show and the RRP imprint. Would Rick ever make a Stan Lee-style cameo in Percy Jackson and the Olympians? Would we want him to be a teacher or a party pony? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 29, where we'll rewatch The Adam Project and discuss how Walker Scobell is the perfect Percy Jackson. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then discuss the events of Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi (with a designated spoiler section), as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 11 and 12. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (01:19:00) Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality by Roshani Chokshi is out in the world! Read our full review. Did you listen to our interview with Roshani Chokshi? Be sure to check out the accompanying article, too! Oh, and the Trials of Apollo series is in paperback now. And the Aru Shah and the End of Time graphic novel is out on April 19. Are you ready for #LightningThiefWeek? We're putting together playlists for the podcast, so if you haven't already, go listen to all of our Lightning Thief episodes. Don't forget about Daniel José Older's Ballad & Dagger tour! (Correction: The book comes out May 3!) Now it's time to break down Rick's latest blog post. Rick and Becky have been setting up their place in Vancouver, and we're jealous. Karen and Kristen get nerdy about props and costume design. Did you ever think about how the orange Camp Half-Blood shirts would show up on screen? The higher-ups are still happy, which is great and all, but we really want to see those monster mock-ups. We're all very excited about casting, and it's coming! We need to be patient and make sure we're not bugging Becky and Ashlee for information they can't give us yet! We have plans to do fancasting for some of the other big characters (like we did with Poseidon), but we're working against the clock! Oh, and here's our confirmation that Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1's episode count is eight. Plus, we get a little update on the Daughter of the Deep film, as well as the Solangelo book. Aru Shah and the End of Time (00:23:15) It's time to get into the first book in the Pandava series (spoiler-free until the end). What's it about, exactly? Kristen has a very accurate summary. This is the first time she's read one of Roshani's books, so…what did she think? Aru Shah is such a great character and has such an interesting relationship with the truth. And then there's Mini, who Kristen definitely relates to. Yes, she was that girl. We love Boo, even though he's a complex character. Karen is sure to avoid spoilers, but it's tough! Boo is totally in a Mushu situation, and we can't help but quote Mulan. Oh, and Boo has…taken pigeon form. Except we both picture him a little differently. The Sleeper is a pretty cool name for a villain. But he's also downright terrifying. There are a ton of other interesting characters from Hindu mythology that show up, too. Glory to Hanuman! Who doesn't love a good rhyming sage? Motion to make pre-winter a thing all around the world. Roshani's chapter titles rival Rick's for sure. A lot of stuff from End of Time comes full circle in Nectar of Immortality. Shout-out to both the weapons and the Night Bazaar. Our spoiler discussion starts at 1:02:57. If you want to avoid spoilers, jump to the timestamp for the Titan's Curse chapter reviews. We discuss the Sleeper's true identity. Did we guess who he was? Does the Sleeper have a point? Does he have a good argument? Karen asks what Kristen thought of the ending. Did we like the cliffhanger? We want to talk about Song of Death soon, but it'll probably have to wait a couple of months. There are just so many things we want to talk about right now! Chapter Reviews (01:10:53) It's time for Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapter 11. It's pretty neat that Zoë was there when Riptide was created. Prophecy Count: 15 Apollo gave us our new tagline. Something is definitely up with Bianca and Nico, but we're saving it for the next chapter. Why did Thalia make it sound like it was Percy's fault Annabeth was thinking about joining the Hunters? Do we know WHY Annabeth might want to join the Hunters? Who could've been the person with Zoë in the dream?? Apollo got super deep in this chapter, and Karen is into it. It's time to go snowboarding with a pig in Titan's Curse chapter 12. We get an explanation from Bianca about why she wanted to join the Hunters, but we don't really like it. Who really deserves the blame here?? What's going on with Nico and Bianca? Do we know who's responsible for all of this? Percy discovers Thalia's secret, and she's not too happy about it. There are cold areas in New Mexico. Who knew? We love that Grover's search for Pan is still a part of the series. When was the last time Zoë felt Pan's presence? Has Grover ever felt his presence as strong as this? We will single-handedly make sure Percy Jackson and the Olympians gets five seasons if we have to. Feedback (01:45:26) Becky loved our interview with Roshani Chokshi. Daniel also thought of another role Logan Lerman could take on in the show! Be sure to leave your comments so we can read them on air! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 28, where we'll do a deep dive on Zeus (plus tell you our fancasts). This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then conduct an interview with none other than Roshani Chokshi ahead of the release of Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 9 and 10. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:14) Kristen wonders, “What IS news?” but Karen is too tired to think about it. Roshani Chokshi is doing promo for Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, including a video where she answers questions in 11 seconds or less as well as a quiz based on the Pandava series. Did you know it was also Grover Underwood Appreciation Week? It's 2022. Would Grover be vegan? By complete coincidence, they were also talking about Grover in the writer's room. This is your weekly reminder to be patient about casting news. Thanks to Rebecca Kuss, we'll be getting new YA Rick Riordan Presents books soon! Read Riordan published an article for Women's History Month between J.C. Cervantes and Tehlor Kay Mejia. Plus, there's an article about Baby Boo from Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality. Did you tell Becky what kind of behind-the-scenes content you want to see? We've probably got a blog post incoming! Roshani Chokshi interview (00:18:45) Today, we have a very special guest in Roshani Chokshi, who is here to promote the fifth and final book in the Pandava series, Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality. Our first question is whether Rosh has any quirky habits when it comes time to sit down and write. And what about special snacks? You'll NEVER guess her answer. Is there an editing critique that Rosh hates seeing in her drafts? Just like Greek mythology, Hindu mythology isn't always appropriate for the children. Rosh tells us what it's been like to kick off the Rick Riordan Presents imprint. What kind of doors populate Roshani's subconscious? Is there any chance Roshani will ever return to the world of Aru Shah? Plus, Rosh gives us an update on the Aru Shah adaptation. Can you guess what her Greek godly parent would be? And what Rick Riordan Presents series would Rosh want to visit? Wanda Maximoff: Misunderstood heroine or villain in the making? And we get to hear about her cursed dream project. (For real, though, it sounds awesome.) What other projects does Roshani have coming up? Buy Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality by Roshani Chokshi from Disney Books, Bookshop.org, Book Depository, or Amazon. You can also add it to your Goodreads list. Chapter Reviews (00:51:48) Let's get back to Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse, shall we? Shockingly, we're going to start with chapter 9. It's realistic that Mr. D caught Percy, but how DARE he act high and mighty! Does Mr. D actually want to care about Percy and Annabeth and the others? What's going on with Zoë and this mysterious hero who broke her heart? Where in the world is Annabeth? Do we remember who the General is? Can we have a saber-tooth kitty? Please? Now it's onto chapter 10, and we're halfway through the book. Zoë would be a better leader if she just listened to people. Have you ever eaten astronaut food? Percy is a smart cookie! Should we do an episode on the spoils of war? Proud of you, Zoë. Kronos is a four-course meal of evil. Feedback (01:20:23) Nicolaas really loves Troy, and Karen once again admits she needs to rewatch it. And Mr. Pink is reading the series for the first time in English. How exciting! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 27, where we'll discuss Aru Shah and the End of Time. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then talk about their favorite movies and television shows based on Greek mythology, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 7 and 8. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:31) We're having a quarter-life crisis. But also: am baby. Not a ton of news this week, but that's okay because a lot has been happening recently! Becky told us where Rick first learned to scuba dive and what project he was working at the time. A lovely listener also sent us this article from 2001 detailing the experience. Then we debate the merits of snorkeling and whether sharks and puppies are the same thing. Did you read the Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality sneak peek? Next, we take some time to do the Nine Worlds quiz on air. Be sure to tell us what you got, too! Movies and TV based on Greek mythology (00:22:12) We had to expand this section to include television, AND THAT'S OKAY. Karen kicks us off with Hercules, even though she forgot it existed. Kristen is full of fun facts today, including a heartwarming story about Danny DeVito. We really love the songs in Hercules, and Hades is just so charismatic. Kristen switches tones with her first pick: Immortals. We might be in disagreement about how we feel about this movie, but we definitely agree the cast is stellar. Kristen is still mad Luke Evans wasn't nominated for Beauty and the Beast. We just HAD to include Xena: Warrior Princess. And Karen found out this show has some significant connections to a few other properties she loves. Most of this episode is just us convincing each other to watch things. Sorry, Karl Urban. At least you're a very handsome man. Next up: 300. Kristen has strong feelings about Zack Snyder. We take a little time to do some Gerard Butler appreciation. Karen wants everyone to know about Blood of Zeus, especially if you're a Percy Jackson fan. This one also has an interesting connection to Immortals! Animation for the win! Kristen picks Troy for her last movie, and Karen shares her viewing experience of the film. Shout-out to Air Force One. That Troy cast, though. Kristen sends Karen a very unsubtle message. Kristen's got some runners-up, but they're not all winners. There is room for some modern adaptations of Greek mythology, so let's go, Hollywood! Chapter Reviews (01:14:10) Okay, let's get ready for Titan's Curse chapter 7. Would Grover choose Artemis or Pan? Zoë is very intense. Does Mr. D actually care about the campers? Don't be embarrassed, Percy! Is Zoë a good leader? Why do all these sage older mentors never share pertinent information!? Not going on this quest is…kind of a good thing? Is Sally's support of Percy's journey realistic? Does she have ulterior motives? Prophecy Count: 14 Luke will definitely make more bad choices. What does Blackjack sound like, and who could voice him? Let's talk about Titan's Curse chapter 8 and all of Percy's bad decisions. Is Bessie cute even though she has a snake butt? We super do not trust Zoë just yet. Trying to manipulate a prophecy is not going to end in your favor. Making dangerous promises probably will not also end in your favor. We're so glad Blackjack is an active part of this story now. Feedback (01:47:22) What is your preferred episode length? Henry linked us to the Production Weekly page about Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ start and end dates. Who'd be the best god at editing podcasts? Thank you for the lovely email, Caoimhe! Should we do a Harry Potter/Percy Jackson crossover episode? Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 26, where we'll have some fun Aru Shah things for you. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then do a deep dive on the god Poseidon and wonder who they'd like to see portray him in the show, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 5 and 6. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:02:12) We are perfect and have no flaws. No mistakes! Don't grow up, kids. Jen Cervantes has started writing The Lords of Night 2, but blank pages are hard. Are you going to attend Roshani Chokshi's Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality book tour? We've seen some information floating around the internet about Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+, but take everything with a grain of salt until it's been confirmed. First up is a PJOTV cast breakdown for each episode. @updatespercy is a very helpful news source. Go follow them! Next, we have a production end date. We wonder how the show will be shot and when we might start seeing episodes. Then we talk about working titles and other information. Could they be shooting in NYC at all? Karen needs to work on her transitions. Deep Dive: Poseidon (00:18:50) We have an ulterior motive for doing this episode now. Reminder that Melissa Ponzio would make a perfect Sally Jackson. Isn't it a little weird that Poseidon made horses? Oh yeah, Poseidon does have a thing about bulls. His golden chariot sounds pretty cool, too. We're not going to go through ALL the myths, just the ones that are more relevant. Like most gods, he has a complicated family tree and definitely has some issues with his dad. Rick had his work cut out for him talking about some of these nastier myths. Sometimes we don't know things, and that's okay. You might love your siblings, but you probably don't want to live with them. Why do telkhines sound so familiar!? Amphitrite just wanted to be her own person, but Poseidon wasn't too bad of a husband. If Poseidon had his own city, what would it be called? Poseidon is the patron god of never getting the city he wants. The Trojan Horse makes a lot more sense now that we know more about Poseidon. Poor Demeter. She really got the short end of the stick here. At least Hestia got off okay? Let's get into the Poseidon we know and love from Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Who holds the record for the most demigod children? Now that we're refreshed on Poseidon's physical attributes and his personality, let's discuss who we want to portray Percy's dad in the television show. Karen's first pick is none other than the Winter Soldier himself, Sebastian Stan. Let's be real, a defining characteristic is whether the person can rock long hair. Kristen's next pick might be a little out of left field, but Zac Efron would be a GET. Shame on Karen for never having seen A High School Musical. We're stuck on the age thing a little bit—how old should the gods appear to be? If Momoa wants to play Poseidon, we're not going to complain, but it's low-hanging fruit. Karen tried to avoid picking her go-to actor, but he'd be such a good catch that she couldn't do it. Because who doesn't love Idris Elba and want him in everything!? What would Poisedon's godly outfit look like? Okay, next up is another major player who's also been in Game of Thrones, and that's none other than…Kit Harrington! Plus, he's done some Greek-inspired movies before. Again, long hair is very important. Which means we have to include Keanu Reeves on this list. And we already know he'd be down to do a movie or show for kids! Karen and Kristen both feel pretty strongly about this last choice for Poseidon. Chris Hemsworth has already played a god, after all! Let. Him. Keep. His. Accent. One of our listeners also had a great suggestion! Chapter Reviews (00:59:39) It's time for Titan's Curse chapter 5. There's a lot going on in BOTH of these chapters. Strap in. We're super glad Percy stood up to Mr. D, even though that was a dangerous gamble. Why is Mr. D so awful sometimes?? Nico is turning into a rebellious teenager before our very eyes. Shouldn't Nico be having a larger reaction to the news that Bianca is a Hunter now? There are a lot of conversations we wish we'd been privy to. Is Nico fully aware of what it means for Bianca to be a Hunter now? At least Percy and Thalia had that heart-to-heart. We really appreciate that Rick isn't afraid to explore some difficult family dynamics. Your mother is definitely worried about you, Percy. What's this secret quest Clarisse is on? Prophecy Count: 12 We're getting Atlas vibes here. We love Tyson AND peanut butter. Kristen is a professional. Now it's time for Titan's Curse chapter 6! If Artemis were truly lost, what would happen to the Hunters? What do we think about Annabeth contemplating an oath to Artemis? Did the Oracle actually grin at Percy? And what's going on with that scarf? We can't remember. How do official CBH-sanctioned quests actually work? We're learning all kinds of things today. Would the Campers have won capture the flag if Annabeth was there? Isn't Pinecone Face a little…low? Prophecy Count: 13 Who's the goddess in chains? We have a ton of feedback this week! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 25, where we'll discuss our favorite Greek mythology-inspired movies. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then go through their What If…? season 2 scenarios related to Sea of Monsters, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 3 and 4. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:34) Have you heard about the Rainbow Book List? Mark Oshiro got two top 10 designations for his books! Reyna gives us some fun facts about Pegasus and it got kind of…dark. Roshani Chokshi did a wonderful interview with Joe Caramagna and Anu Chouhan for the Aru Shah and the End of Time graphic novel. Did you figure out the puzzle on the new Battle of the Labyrinth cover? You can read Ballad and Dagger chapter 1. What If...? season 2: Sea of Monsters (00:06:15) Did you listen to Prophecy Radio episode 9, where we did our first What If… scenarios? In case you aren't familiar, we explain what we mean by What If… We tried really hard to stick with Sea of Monsters scenarios! Karen wants to know…what if Grover had never created the empathy link? Is Grover a Hufflepuff? How else could Percy have known Grover was missing? Would they have even known about the Golden Fleece? If you changed Tyson's introduction, it could all still work. Next, Kristen wants to know…what if the sea of monsters was actually in Poseidon's domain? How does Poseidon's domain actually work? Would this quest have been a lot easier? Percy might've gotten more credit for the quest, at least. How exactly do you kill a god? Asking for a friend. Karen wants to know…what if Clarisse and Percy didn't hate each other? Would she have to pretend to hate him in order to get intel from Ares? Clarisse might also make better decisions if she and Percy weren't so competitive. You wouldn't even have to change Clarisse's personality to pull this off. Anyone have some good platonic Percy/Clarisse fic to read? Kristen wants to know…what if Tyson had never prayed to Poseidon for help? Percy would lose a lot of character growth, at least at this point in his story. Where would Tyson have ended up and how would he have changed? Would Percy have died without Tyson by his side? This would definitely change Annabeth, too. Now, Karen wants to know…what if Luke had convinced Annabeth to join his side? More campers definitely would've joined Luke's side if she had switched. Would Annabeth have softened Luke at all? How far would she have let things go? Annabeth would've been a much darker character throughout the rest of the series. Lastly, Kristen wants to know…what if using the Golden Fleece to heal Annabeth drained it too much to heal Thalia? At the very least, Camp Half-Blood would've been a lot weaker. What kind of tree would you be, if you could choose? Percy definitely would've had plenty more things to worry about. And poor, poor Annabeth. She would've felt so guilty. Would more people have joined Luke if Camp was so weak? We got some feedback from Henry. What ONE thing would you consider changing in the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles? Chapter Reviews (00:53:12) Let's get started on Titan's Curse chapter 3! Did Percy make the right call going after Dr. Thorn on his own? What do we think about the goddess Artemis? The Hunters are awesome but they might need to take it down a notch. Zoë Nightshade isn't making a good first impression. Did Zoë manipulate Bianca into joining the Hunters? What's the point of being immortal EXCEPT in battle? Is Bianca being irresponsible by joining the Hunters? Is this version of Nico different from the one we're used to seeing? Would Riptide be a separate card from the Percy Jackson card? Should we give all the Percy Jackson characters Pokésonas? Onto Titan's Curse chapter 4! We were so ready for Apollo to show up. It's so interesting to see how Rick explains science in relation to the mythological stories. How old is Thalia, exactly? It must be tough for Thalia to find her role at Camp and with the team. We might have an explanation for all these recent fluctuating temperatures. At least Thalia hit the water, right? Who wants fish dinner? Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 24, where we'll do a deep dive into Poseidon and who we'd like to see portray him in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then talk about the dreaded Sea of Monsters movie, as well as kick off their Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse reread with chapters 1 and 2. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:39) We've got a huge episode in front of us, so let's get into it! Sarwat Chadda is still working on City of the Plague Gods 2, but we're a little confused about the title. Kwame Mbalia and Roseanne A. Brown talk about what Black History Month means to them. If only our days in the office looked like Rick's. Tehlor Kay Mejia is writing her bi disaster adult debut, and we are very excited. Don't forget to check out Karen's Reclaim the Stars book review. Ashlee Latimer is giving away a copy of her new picture book! We're surprised that Rick already has a new blog post up, but we're excited to get into it! There is no typical work day for Rick, which sounds awesome and stressful. We talk a bit about all the script edits they're currently working on. The Solangelo book is going to be LONG, and we're here for it. We get an interesting insight into how they start to break an episode. Apparently, Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ will be eight episodes long. Rick also broke his toe, and we hope he feels better soon! Writing is never really done, it's just due. We can't imagine how many submission tapes they're going through—but it's a lot. Soon, we're going to talk about our dream cast for the adult roles in the show. How long do we think the filming for this show will take? Rick wrote Goodreads reviews for Ballad & Dagger and Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting. Becky does a lot, too! We see you, Becky. Thank you. Sea of Monsters movie (00:32:06) Did we like the Sea of Monsters movie better than the Lightning Thief movie? It was nice to see Thalia turning into the tree, but that opening was so dark. Let's meet all the new Sea of Monsters characters. Clarisse was pretty great, but we hope TV!Clarisse is a little stockier. We really missed the chariot races. Is there anyone who doesn't love Stanley Tucci? We kind of didn't mind that someone else is playing Chiron in this movie. The tone was definitely better in this movie. But how did we feel about Tyson? Have you ever thought about how a cyclops would wear sunglasses? And the whole barrier situation doesn't really work in the movie. The Colchis Bull fight had its highs and lows. We're still disappointed about Grover's storylines in these movies. Was it weird that Mr. D took over part of Tantalus' plot in the movie? How did we feel about the oracle? Kronos' aesthetic was…a choice. Nathan Fillion was truly an inspired choice for Hermes. Did Annabeth maim Thalia? Can the show create as good a Rainbow as the movie??? Did the filmmakers not know how to pronounce Riordan? Who doesn't love Ron Perlman as Hellboy?? Tyson's death in the movie was so pointless. Ugh, this was not our Annabeth. Not at all. The battle at the end with Kronos was so unnecessary. Does anyone here watch Station 19? Did we like Thalia at the end of the movie? How do we feel about the Percy voiceover? We are officially done with the movies! Chapter Reviews (01:24:06) Let's get into Titan's Curse chapter 1! Does this chapter start rather abruptly? We were shocked to learn Nico and Bianca were introduced so early! Controlling the Mist is a pretty big deal. We love book!Annabeth so much. The Ground Zero reference was effective. Dancing is hard. Time for Titan's Curse chapter 2! Shout-out to Onward for teaching us what a manticore is. We need a Rules for the Empathy Link pamphlet. The Hunters of Artemis definitely have great posture. We really wanted to reach the next chapter after that ending! Do your homework! And read lots of MG and YA books. Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 23, where we'll do another What If…? episode centered around Sea of Monsters. In this episode we discuss Percy Jackson book 3: The Titan's Curse. Featuring: both-sides-ism, a small amount of complaining about philosophy professors, and a pitch for casting Aphrodite. Also, we call Rick Riordan out for fridging. We continue to have mad nostalgic fun with these episodes. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, take a page out of Marvel's book to do a Percy Jackson edition of What If…?, and analyze chapters 17 and 18 of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:00:58) Note: Kristen's audio is quiet for the first five minutes of the podcast, but it returns to normal after that. Sorry! If you're worried about the Percy Jackson adaptation, this Wheel of Time article might make you feel better. Check out the Last Fallen Star liner notes. Kristen loves when authors write mini stories for beloved characters. Not sure whether to read or reread Magnus Chase or the Kane Chronicles? There's a quiz for that. Karen is NOT a fan of math. But she is a fan of the video game Hades. What if…? (00:10:23) Kristen explains what sort of shenanigans we're gonna get up to today. Karen kicks us off by wondering what if…demigods weren't claimed until they were 18? How would a darker tone to the story change the way Percy Jackson navigated his newfound abilities? Would Percy have a better childhood, or would it still have messed him up? Kristen wonders what if…Sally and Poseidon had a second child? There are two directions to go in here—one in which she had a second child with him a few years after Percy, and one in which she has a second child with him now. How would a full-blooded sibling change Percy's life? How mad would Zeus and Hades be then?? Not even Gabe could protect them. What sort of relationship do we think they would've had? Karen asks what if…Thalia made it to Camp Half-Blood? This really could've changed everything. Would Luke have gone to the dark side? Would she have gotten along with Percy, or would they have been rivals? Kristen wonders what if…Luke was able to resists Kronos' manipulations? Would Annabeth and Percy have ever gotten together if Luke was still in the picture? Gotta admit, though, Luke would've been great to have along on some quests. Who would've taken Luke's place as Kronos' lackey, and how would that have changed the ultimate outcome? We've got some BONUS scenarios, too. @Colby_jack_ wonders what if…Bianca survived Titan's Curse? Kristen also wonders what if…demigods could use technology. She just wants to know what movies they're gonna watch. @hiiwritefanfic wants to know what if Percy went over to the dark side. And @griffin_b1893 wants to know what if Kronos had gotten to Percy first? Chapter Reviews (00:48:21) This week, we're reading chapters 17 and 18 of The Lightning Thief! Okay, but where does the Lotus Hotel and Casino's money come from?? We get some answers to the questions about naiads we were talking about a couple episodes ago. What were Annabeth and Grover up to while Percy was underwater? Barbara Walters is so iconic. Percy is adjusting well, wouldn't you say? All we're saying is we'd love to have a sponsorship. We kind of freak out over a line in this chapter. WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Charon can totally be bought and is definitely not a horse man. Karen is anti-New Jersey. We talk about how other religions exist in this universe. Cerberus is the best boy. We get DEEP. And then go off the rails, like always. Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next week for episode 10, in which we'll share our holiday gift guide. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. The Titan's Curse, ch. 18 to 20 We did it, friends. We've gone all the way up the mountain of The Titan's Curse and back down again. Along the way, we learned a lot: how devastating it can be when a little kid's little gay crush turns into unbridled animosity, the ways that PJO could easily swing its way into becoming the Doctor Who of kid lit, when and when not to cut a character down in their prime, the most effective methods of indoctrinating someone into your lesbian goddess cult, and just how many different ways two podcasters can say "it's good, actually." What did you learn? Come back next week for The Battle of the Labyrinth, ch. 1 to 3! Check out our Patreon!
