-What can we codependummies learn from an analysis of “Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem and Rihanna?  -What are some common themes touched on in the song that codependents tend to exhibit in toxic relationships?  -What about songs like this encourage and enable our codependummy ways and how can we stop relating so much? Welcome to episode 87! We are back with our DJ CODEPENDUMMY segment where we analyze, deconstruct, and look critically at a song dripping in codependent themes. This week, I'm discussing “Love The Way You Lie” by Eminem and Rihanna. This song discusses topics of manipulation, intolerance of being separated, relationship withdrawal, and others which are commonly found in codependent relationships. You'll hear me apply choice lyrics to a former codependent relationship in my past to help you better understand codependency in your own relationships.. I open up about ways that my ex and I were both deeply codependent. I hope that by sharing you feel less alone in your own codependency.  Helpful links: “Love The Way You Lie” by Eminem and Rihanna - https://open.spotify.com/track/15JINEqzVMv3SvJTAXAKED?si=f17b742d0feb4894 DJ CODEPENDUMMY from December 2021: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dj-codependummy-part-i-love-me-by-the-cardigans/id1550681775?i=1000544066503 DJ CODEPENDUMMY from July 2021: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/codependummy-playlist-1-part-one/id1550681775?i=1000527846296 www.codependummy.com/toolsforhealing - check out The Confiding Codependummy for just $1 a day for the next month (it's $30 total).  www.codependummy.com - check out the Self-Validation Challenge for free! https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=RJ3PSNZ4AF7QC - help support the show via a one-time donation via secure Paypal link!  More deets on this week's episode: We begin with our typical check in. It's so important to check in girl! We then begin our analysis of 4 lyrics and touch on four themes of codependency: Intolerance: codependents are unable to endure separations (even in conflict) Withdrawal: codependents undergo withdrawal (loss of appetite, restless, lethargic, disoriented, agony, etc.) when separated or a relationship ends Violent fighting/ending: codependents may engage in explosive, vitriolic, and combative arguments which may involve emotional and physical abuse  Manipulation: codependents attempt to control or influence (a person or situation) cleverly, unfairly, or unscrupulously I proceed to discuss the lyrics and themes while sharing anecdotes from a former relationship.  You'll hear me talk about the restlessness and agony I experienced when separated from my ex.  I reveal just how manipulative I was while “not” talking to him but keeping tabs on him thanks to social media.  I recall how my ex was also intolerable of separation which turned into him showing up at random which I perceived as romantic.  In conclude with how, despite all the evidence of how toxic the relationship was, we continued to stay together as I “loved the way” he lied.  To conclude, I discuss why this song, these lyrics, and this behavior is problematic. I then provide challenging statements to each of the lyrics discussed in an effort to demonstrate the ideals we codependiamonds ought to be working towards.  Questions for you: How do you relate to these lyrics?  Where in your life are you burning and liking the way it hurts? Where in your life are you crying and others are simply watching? Do you have a relationship(s) where you love being lied to? Why? What's familiar about these relationships from previous dating relationships and those in your family? How can you start to work towards no longer tolerating burning, crying, and lying in your relationships? PLEASE R.R.S.S: Rate.  Review. Subscribe.  Share. We need more ratings on Spotify! We examine what led Eminem to this point such as the death of his good friend Proof, the break down of Eminem's second marriage to Kim, a frustrating case of writer's block and mental health issues. We discuss how Eminem recovered from his overdose and we analyse the tracks on Eminem's comeback album Relapse including We Made You, 3am, Beautiful and My Mom. Then we take a look at the hit album Recovery including the background story on tracks like Love The Way You Lie, Not Afraid, No Love, Going Through Changes and many more as Eminem looks set to cement his spot as the best in the business as the self professed "Rap God". The name Skylar Grey might not be instantly recognisable, but you'll definitely know the songs she's co-written: "Love The Way You Lie" by Eminem, "Clarity" by Zedd, "I Need A Doctor" by Dr. Dre and "Last One Standing" from the Venom: Let There Be Carnage soundtrack are just some of her hits. Skylar sung the chorus hook on "Glorious" by Macklemore and "Coming Home" by Diddy; she's a long-time collaborator with Eminem, as a performer, songwriter and producer; and she is also a solo artist in her own right. In fact from the moment she started performing as a kid, being the main artist was Skylar's goal. But as you're about to find out there have been many detours along the way, with both incredible highs and soul crushing lows. It was during one of those lows that Skylar wrote, performed and produced her new self-titled solo album.  We talk about it all in this interview.

Lipps Service with Scott Lipps

Scott talks to 5-time Grammy nominee Skylar Grey about her incredible career that branches from solo artist to one of the world’s most prominent songwriters. They start with her upbringing in Wisconsin, where she was in her first folk band with her mother at age 6. She moved to LA at 17, got her first record deal, then lost it all. After going broke and moving to Oregon to work at a gallery part-time, Skylar wrote the song “Love The Way You Lie” – later released by Eminem and Rihanna. Skylar breaks out the piano and performs the chorus, giving listeners goosebumps. Scott and Skylar discuss how this one song changed her life and allowed her to create more hits for major artists, including “Walk on Water” for Eminem and Beyoncé, “Coming Home” for Diddy-Dirty Money, and “Castle Walls” for T.I. and Christina Aguilera. Skylar also shares about how writing a song for Celine Dion was a dream-come-true. Shifting into the present, Skylar is writing new music for herself while living in Napa. The conversation wraps up with a chat on Skylar’s creative process, new tracks and projects, and goals for the future. Skyler concludes the show with an inspiring live performance of the chorus of “Coming Home.”

After a 14-year journey with Rick, we've decided to part ways. It's a challenging moment, yes, but it's led to something emotionally raw yet cathartic: a compilation of early break-up dance classics. Party Favorz offers this unique set to accompany the myriad feelings a break-up evokes—be it sadness, anger, regret, or even empowerment. Given the life transitions, including a move away from Atlanta, pardon the somewhat less polished mix set this time around. Despite this, I'm convinced that the collection will resonate with many of you, perhaps even offering a semblance of solace. This one's filed under our beloved Backspin category. Now, let's delve into this stirring collection of songs that capture the complexities of ending a relationship. The Groovefunkel New Disco remix of Gloria Gaynor's seminal "I Will Survive" transforms this gay anthem of empowerment into a dance-floor-ready battle cry. Another standout is Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together," presented here in the Atlantic Soul Vocal Remix. This version adds a danceable twist to Mariah's poignant lyrics about love and loss. Toni Braxton's soul-wrenching "Un-Break My Heart" finds a new context in the Franktidrama Mix, while Amy Winehouse's "Tears Dry On Their Own" offers a fresh perspective via the Alix Alvarez Sole Channel Mix. Celine Dion's "All By Myself," remixed by Tracy Young, and Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" in the Hex Hector remix, add layers of emotional depth to these early break-up dance classics. For a modern touch, Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" receives the Ralphi & Craig remix, weaving a tale of assertiveness amidst sorrow. Further, Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" is transformed into a house epic by the Downtown London remix, adding sonic dimensions to the grief and anger the original so perfectly encapsulates. Alice Deejay's “Better Off Alone,” Rihanna's “Love The Way You Lie” remixed by the Italian Dandies, and Pink's “Please Don't Leave Me” in the Digital Dog remix also find their way into this cathartic dance set. Each track serves as a pillar of solace, standing strong amidst the chaos of human emotions. As I embark on a new chapter in my life, it's uncertain how soon Party Favorz will be back in full swing. However, rest assured that our mission to bring rhythm and beats to life's ups and downs remains steadfast. Until the next time...ENJOY! Rick and I moved back in together at the beginning of 2016 starting a new chapters in our lives. It's now 2023 and we're still together and plan on marrying soon. Thanks to all the Party Favorz followers for your well-wishes.

The top dance songs of 2010 were a testament to the flourishing dance scene, with numerous artists, DJs, and remixers creating dynamic and memorable tracks that left an enduring mark on the industry. Starting with Katy Perry, a pop icon known for her vibrant and infectious tunes, she delivered several hits that year, including "Firework" (Wideboys Club Mix) and "Peacock" (Reynaldo Klawa Club Remix). Additionally, her "Teenage Dream" (Vandalism Le Pop Extended Remix) stood out with its nostalgic vibe and catchy beat, making it one of the top dance songs of 2010. Alexis Jordan's "Happiness" (Wideboys Club Mix) was another notable song in 2010, thanks to its uplifting lyrics and irresistible rhythm. The Wideboys' remix elevated the track, infusing it with energy that resonated with dance music enthusiasts worldwide. David Guetta, a highly influential figure in the dance music industry, collaborated with Chris Willis, Fergie, and LMFAO on "Gettin' Over You" (Extended Mix), further highlighting his talent for creating crossover hits that bridge the gap between pop and dance music. Yolanda Be Cool vs. DCUP's "We No Speak Americano" (Chew Fu Rosetta Stone Club Mix) also gained significant attention in 2010. The song's unique blend of jazz samples and modern dance beats resulted in a global phenomenon that quickly climbed the music charts, making it one of the year's top dance songs. Not to be overlooked are the Black Eyed Peas, whose "Imma Be" (DJ Dan Vocal Extended Mix) exemplified the group's innovative fusion of hip-hop and dance. This track's success further confirmed the group's ability to generate catchy and danceable tunes. The top dance songs of 2010 also saw the emergence of unexpected dance hits from artists traditionally outside the genre. Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" (Dark Intensity Remix) received a dance music makeover that turned the emotionally charged track into a club anthem. Similarly, Mariah Carey's holiday hits "Oh Santa!/All I Want For Christmas Is You" were transformed into a festive dance mashup by Jump Smokers. Furthermore, artists like Lady Gaga and Beyonce pushed the boundaries of pop and dance with tracks like "Telephone" (DJ Dan Extended Vocal Mix). The song's fusion of Gaga's electro-pop style and Beyonce's R&B flair, amplified by DJ Dan's remix, further blurs the lines between genres, indicating the growing diversity within the top dance songs of 2010. Dennis Ferrer's "Hey Hey" (Vandalism Remix) showcased a deeper side of dance music.
