This was not a chill period in dance music—it was a full-throttle takeover. These weren't just tracks you heard in the club; they were the soundtracks to pre-games, afterparties, breakups, hookups, and everything in between. By this point, Electro House had become the default language of clubland. It didn't matter if the artist was an underground favorite or a Disney Channel graduate—everyone wanted in on the energy. And with remixers like Dave Audé, Mike Rizzo, Jody den Broeder, and Jump Smokers consistently delivering top-shelf work, the line between pop and club music completely vanished. Remix Culture Was King Let's be real—some of these tracks hit harder in their remixed versions than the originals ever could. Usher's “DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love” was already slick, but Jump Smokers cranked it up with a glammed-up club version that dominated summer playlists. Christina Aguilera's “Not Myself Tonight” might've been polarizing on radio, but Jody den Broeder turned it into a pulsing floor-filler with an edge. Black Eyed Peas continued their chart domination with “Imma Be” and “Meet Me Halfway,” both of which got remixed within an inch of their lives—one dirty, one dreamy, and both undeniable. And let's talk about Lady Gaga, who basically lived on the dance charts during this period. You'll find three of her biggest tracks here—“Bad Romance,” “Paparazzi,” and “Love Game”—all reworked by Dave Audé into high-energy triumphs that left no corner of the dancefloor untouched. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kszwg8u9--w The Rise of Selena Gomez One of the most fascinating shifts during this period was the arrival of Selena Gomez—best known at the time as a squeaky-clean Disney princess. But her early releases with The Scene were smart, polished pop that lent themselves surprisingly well to club remixes. “Round & Round” and “A Year Without Rain” became club favorites thanks to 7th Heaven and Dave Audé, respectively, who transformed them into soaring dance tracks without stripping away her youthful charm. Selena's transition from Disney darling to legitimate pop artist began here, and the clubs were ready to embrace her. Ke$ha's Party Nation Also bursting into the scene like a glitter bomb was Ke$ha, whose breakout hit “TiK ToK” became a global party anthem. Fred Falke's remix gave it just enough disco-drenched sophistication while keeping its messy, rebellious spirit intact. Ke$ha's arrival signaled a new wave of club pop—raucous, unfiltered,

This installment zeroes in on 2009–2010—two powerhouse years that marked a massive turning point for electronic dance music and the global club scene. By this point, the shimmering dominance of the big room anthems helmed by remix legends like Thunderpuss, Hex Hector, and Victor Calderone had begun to fade. Their reign throughout the late '90s and early 2000s had set the standard for peak-hour energy, but by 2009, a new breed of producers began rewriting the rulebook. The Electro House Revolution This was the moment when Electro House officially took center stage. David Guetta broke into the U.S. mainstream and never looked back, while the Swedish House Mafia began building their empire brick by brick. Artists like Bimbo Jones, Jody den Broeder, Wideboys, Jump Smokers, Mike Rizzo, and Wawa steadily made names for themselves by turning pop into gold—remixing everything from the obvious club fodder to unexpected chart-toppers. Their influence was unmistakable. If their names were attached to a remix, you knew you were in for something massive. What made this shift so monumental is that the remixers became just as famous—if not more so—than the original artists. Guetta and Swedish House Mafia didn't just fill clubs; they packed stadiums and headlined the very festivals that were just beginning to explode in North America. Electronic music wasn't just for the underground anymore—it was pop. Commercial Kings of the Club Charts Yet, while Guetta and SHM were scaling the highest heights, others carved out their own niche—less flashy but no less effective. Remix powerhouses like Cahill, Moto Blanco, and Dave Audé were hitting hard and consistently. Their mixes dominated Billboard's Dance Club charts and brought just the right balance of commercial accessibility and dancefloor credibility. Moto Blanco leaned heavily into Disco House—reinventing the genre with crisp, soulful vocals over chugging basslines and glittery synths. Meanwhile, Cahill and Dave Audé turned pop tracks into pure club fuel, often elevating songs far beyond their original versions. These guys weren't interested in the spotlight—they were all about the sound. And club DJs and promoters knew: if you needed a floor-filler, you grabbed a remix from one of them. Pop Royalty Ascends This stretch also marked a major shift in pop culture, with a new generation of women dominating both the charts and the dancefloor. Rihanna was rising like a phoenix,

Justin Roman has done a lot during the 21st century: he hosts The MVP Game (sign up there to be a guest on the show) with Kenzie K (who was his fiancée when this was recorded); it's a super-fan Cubs game show (and a couple of Bears shows during the off season) on the Marquee Sports Network. He talks about his media and performing career, which includes the Vi3 boy band and their hit Eyes Closed so Tight before he started at B96 in 2004; producing music with the Jump Smokers and DJ Flipside (who also does the music for The MVP Game) and their popular remix My Flow So Tight. Roman explains how he got on the air at B96 when he was a super-fan, doing nights and afternoons for several years with Stylz then mornings at US99 in 2016 until they had to leave (get the full story in episode 2 of The Stylz & Roman Uncensored Podcast); being the entertainment host at the Chicago Bulls games; famous people he's met and toured with; why he likes Pitbull; success and failure; appearing with Kenzie K on the Windy City Live TV show and ABC 7, why he and Stylz did their podcast for only a year, why he's positive, and more. Party Favorz is taking you on a trip down memory lane, recalling the unforgettable hits that dominated the dance music scene. Party 2 of our year-end dance retrospective further enhances this musical extravaganza by including more of the year's most influential club hits! A curious query arose from one of our followers recently regarding the usage of radio edits in our mixes. The response, initially simplistic, turned out to be more complex than a straightforward 'yes' or 'no'. The reality lies somewhere in the middle, so let's dive deeper. In the era of streaming services, dance music, like most genres, is becoming increasingly influenced by this shift, especially by platforms like Spotify. This trend arguably took root in 2009 when Mariah Carey's album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel", was extensively remixed by Jump Smokers, leading to a collection of dance radio edits rather than full-length dance tracks. While these tracks were not DJ-friendly, it signaled the beginning of a trend for shorter, more condensed "dance remixes". As we fast forward to the year 2018, a significant proportion of remixes adopted this shorter format. The reason? Streaming platforms operate in a similar vein to traditional radio stations, providing on-demand music without the ads, and they favor quick, accessible listens before moving onto the next track. Extended intros and outros don't fit this model, and hence the shift towards more condensed tracks. This evolution posed a challenge for DJs, stuck between delivering popular songs and preserving the art of mixing. The solution is a delicate balance, combining the shorter edits with longer dance remixes to maintain a seamless flow. Although this approach might dampen the traditional joy of mixing, it offers a practical way forward, especially for the future of remixing like on the Top Dance Songs of 2018. This shift towards 'Spotify-ready' music is not universal, however. Genres like Tech House, Funky House, and Circuit-Tribal music still release full-length dance tracks. Another interesting trend observed in 2018 was the emergence of labels focused on producing dance music tailored for streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music. Their business model is based on the number of streams generated rather than music sales. This approach has led to the creation of some excellent dance tracks that, sadly, may never grace club DJ decks, despite being included in the list of Top Dance Songs of 2018. Despite these developments, platforms like Spotify still restrict the inclusion of dance music podcasts,
As we count down the days to Christmas, Party Favorz is on a tear remembering the year that was in dance music. The Year In Dance 2018 part 2 keeps that promise by delivering even more of the BIGGEST club hits of the year! Recently, one of our followers messaged me and asked if I used radio edits in my mixes. My canned response was a bit dismissive when I stated flatly "that I did not." The truth to that lies somewhere in the middle — to borrow a phrase from one of the biggest tracks of 2018; let me explain... With the rise of streaming services, music is in the process of becoming Spotified — especially dance music. This started back in 2009 when Mariah Carey released her bomb "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" album. In an effort to save it, Sony commissioned Jump Smokers to remix the entire album, which resulted in a hit and miss collection of dance tracks that had no extended versions — basically radio edits. While the album was ultimately shelved, a couple of the tracks made it onto the internet, and much to the dismay of DJs were not mix friendly. Slowly but surely, the release of so-called "dance remixes" was more like edits without the intro and outro. Fast-forward to 2018 and more than 1/3 of remixes are that way. Why? Because Spotify is nothing more than a glorified radio station on demand, without advertising. It's designed for quick listening and then moving on to the next track. Honestly, nobody wants to sit and listen to 2 minutes of intro and outro in a radio environment — so, in a way this makes sense. The problem is that this leaves DJs with a dilemma. Either we serve up the music folks want to hear or abandon favorite songs strictly for mixing purposes. To be specific, it's tricky but workable. There are still many dance remixes that clock in longer than the average of 3:30 that can be matched up with the edits. It does kinda suck the joy out mixing, but you work with what you got. Granted, this is not always the case and is more common in the commercial dance-club scene than say Underground House, Funky House, and Circuit-Tribal music. The other issue I've noticed is that several labels have turned themselves into automated dance music manufacturing machines that go straight to Spotify or Apple Music. In other words, their business model is not based on selling music but the number of streams they can generate. I stumbled on this during the summer when some folks were streaming by the pool some really great dance tracks that I've never heard. When I asked what they were playing, they said it was a Spotify curated list of club music. As good as these tracks were, they will never be serviced to DJs for playback in clubs, which is a shame — but I wholeheartedly understand their reasoning. If I had one complaint, it's that Spotify does not allow dance music podcast like Party Favorz onto their platform — even though, I provide something they clearly are not delivering. What I do competes with their carefully curated playlists. With new technology for them to be able to identify the artists, titles and music publishers from a non-stop podcast like this one, these folks could get an additional revenue stream and greater exposure while adding more value to Spotify's streaming user base. I personally think it's a win/win for everyone involved — but I digress. As Party Favorz is about to embark on our 12th year of providing high-quality, carefully curated dance music podcasts, it would be nice to get a little recognition from the leading players in the streaming industry for the work that I do to bring this music to the broadest possible global audience. Especially after approximately 5 million streams or downloads throughout that time. I don't do any social promotion and would likely have a more substantial following on Facebook if I did. However, the numbers I generate, speak for themselves, especially on a global level. With that said, I've decided to keep plugging along through 2019 with a complete websi...

Updated with minor corrections and the addition of "Don't Wanna Know (Mark Neo Remix)" by Maroon 5 feat. Kendrick Lamar. One thing you'll notice on the two Jingle Electric sets is that the songs are getting shorter and shorter. So much so, they're pretty much radio edits. This is a trend that started several years ago with Jump Smokers and their shelved remix album for Mariah. This is likely at the behest of the major labels for whatever their reasons. It does make mixing a challenge, but it's something I've had to contend with previously, just not on this grand of a scale. Basically, I'm relying on my skills of editing the mixes together much like I did back in the day on two Nakamichi tape decks. I had gotten so damn good at it, folks thought the sets were one continuous mix; a testament to my skills. Nevertheless, I may be a bit rusty but overall, I think these sets turned out quite nicely considering the vast BPM range of the songs I was dealing with. So pop on this current set of the Jingle Electric and be sure to let me know what you think! I'll be back next week with the HOT Santa's and circuit beats for the boys! Until then...ENJOY! Mike explores the sonic aspects of fireworks: What is an explosion, and why do they sound the way they do? These questions lead to a breakdown of combustion versus detonation; low explosives versus high explosives; the phrase “the boom is sort of like a pop with a diploma;” and a fascinating tangent about trying to learn card tricks in the ’90s. Happy Friday! Thought I'd throw everyone for a loop and sneak this one out on ya [grin]. Previously, I had indicated the next EDM set wouldn't be out until October, but after working on the Summer XO, Mixtape and Millennial House Classics, I decided I needed a new frame of mind with a little more edge. Okay, a lot more edge LOL. This latest edition of the EDM Sessions is jammed packed with smoking tunes with a hefty portion coming from bootlegs. Hailing from Spain, Jad Desenchannetee kicks it off with his Dave Aude mashup of Taylor Swift's “Shake It Off.” I have never been a fan of Miss Swift but her latest single (coupled with the self-deprecating video) is a bouncy throwback to the 60s and frankly just a lot of fun. With no official remixes for her hit, Jad's mashup hits all the right notes and frankly, you don't really need any more than this. His intuitions are so good, I also picked up his mashup of Meghan Trainor's mega-catchy hit “All About the Bass.” Speaking about the bass, what the hell is going on with all these songs about plump juicy peaches? You got Nicki's x-rated hit “Anaconda,” which heavily samples the 90s hit “Baby Got Back,” J-Lo and Iggy have a duet out along those lines and even our girl Erika Jayne who is back with her next number one PAINKILLER, though that song has nothing to do about the bass, but her cover art for the single sure does LOL. I never even realized Erika had so much going on but honey BRING IT! Disclosure's “Latch” featuring Sam Smith has been a massive hit but never serviced any proper mixes (likely because it's perfect all by itself). That didn't stop a multitude of DJs from trying their best to remix it. Sadly, all but two were an epic fail. Early out of the winner's gate is Norman Doray and his massive electro-house interpretation but the hands-down winner goes to the Lost Kings who manage to really hit the sweet spot. If you haven't heard their version yet, head on over to their SoundCloud page and check it out, it's a real treat. Following up on his massive “Summer” hit, Calvin Harris honors us with another shining electro-pop gem and in true fashion only gives us a radio edit and no remixes (though they usually drop a month or so later). Several folks have already attempted their own take and I was about to give up on it until DJ Tombs' remix made it across my desk. Holy SHIT is this remix good! I gotta tell ya, out of all the crap covers you hear from bootlegs there will always be someone who treats a song with TLC and just nails it! Just to be clear, I ain't ragging on all you folks giving it your best; keep at it and you will get better. Hell, just ask Drew G, cause his Dirty Pop Deconstruction of Ariana Grande's “Break Free” gives Zedd a run for his money. After last year's global phenom as a featured vocalist on Macklemore's “Same Love,” Mary Lambert drops a little confessional gem on us with “Secrets.” The song embraces life's imperfections and puts it out there for the whole world. She's got bipolar disorder, her family is dysfunctional and all I can say is, welcome to the fucking club sweetie LOL. The fact that she can wrap this all up in a tidy little bounce and Jump Smokers really punctuate the elation in their remix makes the song even more fun and worthwhile. Finally, Jessie J and friends (Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj) recreate “Lady Marmalade” for the new millennium. Think Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, P!nk (without Mya) and “Bang Bang” delivers the goods. The UK's Disco Suckz churns out a real banger (pun intended) with his remix, which guarantees a packed floor the minute the DJ drops this in the middle of a set. That's all I got for the weekend but it should be more than enough; at least until my next set of releases [grin]. I won't make any promises as to what or when because I seldom keep them so just make sure you follow Party Favorz through any of the myriad social outlets I'm currently residing on.

Put your hands up, put your put your HANDS UP! It's time for another roof raisin', house burnin' walk through EDM land. I know, I know I promised the Winter Edition this week, but that will be coming shortly, I PROMISE. Given the nature of the upcoming holiday, I thought it apropos to use a cover art theme that resembles this time of love, heartbreak, and depression for those that don't have someone to share it with. Frankly, I wouldn't get too worked up over it… as Valentine's Day is nothing more than a commercial money grab to get people to spend money on their sweetheart that they likely just dropped a pay-load on Christmas. Same goes for Mother's and Father's Day and don't get me started on Easter and Halloween (though the latter is a lot more fun). My POV is that if you love somebody, show it 365 and dispose of the faux holidays. Since that's not going to happen, here is my bloody valentine to you LOL. This set was quite possibly the most difficult I've done in a very long time. Putting this puppy together was no easy task and unfortunately, a lot of really good songs got laid to waste (though may re-appear on future editions). Musically, I'll give this an A- and stylistically a C+. Not that most of you would notice, but I'm into delivering the full package and if one part fails or even lags in the final product, I can be pretty harsh on myself. Anywho, let me know what you think as comments are always appreciated. Until next week…ENJOY! Album : I ♥ EDM Genre : Electro, Progressive Year : 2013 Total Time : 1:22:11 1. Startoff electro pop duo based out of Chicago - Krewella's based out of Chicago new fresh trippin' track"Alive" followed by catchy house tune "Wearing All Star" by Tradelove. You'll enjoy the next 3 current pop electro dance tunes; "2012 (Get Your Hands Up)" and "Summer Of Love" (Michael Mind Project Remix) by 3 musicians group from Germany - Cascada. "I'm on a Roll" is Stefano's first single features hip hop group New Boyz and Rock Mafia. Grammy-winning house music DJ and producer David Morales release this new track features Polina sexy purry vocal on "Stay" - Mark Alston Extended Remix. Hayla's "I'm Free" tune was released earlier this year, but you'll love its head buzz spinnin' bassline. Katy Perry "Wide Awake" is everyone's favorite remixed by Jump Smokers and she is the only artist to spend over 52 consecutive weeks in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. Next two new tracks is my top picks of the week; remember Lady Gaga - Just Dance remixed by Tony Arzadon, he did it again with DJ Skribble's new track "Cut the Lights". Reside in Miami is German trance DJ/producer Markus Schulz featuring beautiful dark angelic vocal Adina Butar with new track "Caught". Followed last year's electro dance favorites, Laidback Luke Club Mix "Indestructible" by Swedish recording artist Robyn and Tony Pryde remix "Keep Up" - Electro-hip hop group from Los Angeles, California Hyper Crush. Finished one funny catchy new tune "Let's Have A Kiki" original mix from an American band Scissor Sisters (band name come from a sexual position between two women also known as tribadism) - What is a “kiki”?...it means “to get overly excited catching up with your girlfriends” from Urban Dictionar and other say it’s a nickname for cocaine. Have a fun week! 1. Alive - Krewella 2. Wearing All Star (Original Mix) - Tradelove 3. 2012 (Get Your Hands Up) (Christopher S Remix) - Renc De La Monc & Slin Project 4. The top dance songs of 2010 were a testament to the flourishing dance scene, with numerous artists, DJs, and remixers creating dynamic and memorable tracks that left an enduring mark on the industry. Starting with Katy Perry, a pop icon known for her vibrant and infectious tunes, she delivered several hits that year, including "Firework" (Wideboys Club Mix) and "Peacock" (Reynaldo Klawa Club Remix). Additionally, her "Teenage Dream" (Vandalism Le Pop Extended Remix) stood out with its nostalgic vibe and catchy beat, making it one of the top dance songs of 2010. Alexis Jordan's "Happiness" (Wideboys Club Mix) was another notable song in 2010, thanks to its uplifting lyrics and irresistible rhythm. The Wideboys' remix elevated the track, infusing it with energy that resonated with dance music enthusiasts worldwide. David Guetta, a highly influential figure in the dance music industry, collaborated with Chris Willis, Fergie, and LMFAO on "Gettin' Over You" (Extended Mix), further highlighting his talent for creating crossover hits that bridge the gap between pop and dance music. Yolanda Be Cool vs. DCUP's "We No Speak Americano" (Chew Fu Rosetta Stone Club Mix) also gained significant attention in 2010. The song's unique blend of jazz samples and modern dance beats resulted in a global phenomenon that quickly climbed the music charts, making it one of the year's top dance songs. Not to be overlooked are the Black Eyed Peas, whose "Imma Be" (DJ Dan Vocal Extended Mix) exemplified the group's innovative fusion of hip-hop and dance. This track's success further confirmed the group's ability to generate catchy and danceable tunes. The top dance songs of 2010 also saw the emergence of unexpected dance hits from artists traditionally outside the genre. Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" (Dark Intensity Remix) received a dance music makeover that turned the emotionally charged track into a club anthem. Similarly, Mariah Carey's holiday hits "Oh Santa!/All I Want For Christmas Is You" were transformed into a festive dance mashup by Jump Smokers. Furthermore, artists like Lady Gaga and Beyonce pushed the boundaries of pop and dance with tracks like "Telephone" (DJ Dan Extended Vocal Mix). The song's fusion of Gaga's electro-pop style and Beyonce's R&B flair, amplified by DJ Dan's remix, further blurs the lines between genres, indicating the growing diversity within the top dance songs of 2010. Dennis Ferrer's "Hey Hey" (Vandalism Remix) showcased a deeper side of dance music.

Kicking off this set is Mariah's third release from her “Memoires of an Imperfect Angel” album. What's notable here is Jump Smokers have gone back and re-worked the entire album for a near future release and what a job they did! I admit, I wasn't all that happy with the album, but I think pumping some fresh blood into it may be it's saving grace. With the exception of Agnes' “On & On” the first half of this set delves deeply into some seriously smoking hip-hop via the electro route. Folks, this is what I've been talking about. The saving grace for hip-hop is going to be electro. While all of these are stellar tracks that'll get you jumpin' Bassmonkeys and Soulshaker serve up a really funky number on “Bad 4 My Health.” With two separate memorable taglines (Don't blame me if I think with my hoo hoo) and (just call me and I'll be there in a second) this song delivers the goods and then some. The other is “Now You See It” by Honorebel with Pitbull, which has been blowing up all over dance floors. The second half moves in a more mainstream direction starting with Keri Hilson's latest “Slow Dance.” Kaskade really works this number out with a throbbing immediate electro bassline. Another personal favorite is the latest by Dragonette. “Pick Up the Phone” may slow it down it bit, but it's catchy as hell and is the type of song that relentlessly sticks in your brain. Closing out this set we've got some reloaded classics. ATB's “9PM (Til I Come) is a sure fire floor filler and Everything But the Girl's “Missing” is taken to new heights. Picking up where Todd Terry left off, DJ DLG adds some thick bass stabs, while retaining the integrity of the original of this late 90s classic. Perhaps the oddest number in the bunch is the closing track “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King. This is the original 60s classic given an electro makeover by Rachel Ellektra that surprisingly works very well. As a reminder, this set and its companion to be released on Thursday are part of a trial I'm running to help cover my costs associated with this site. When you click on the “donate” button you will be taken to PayPal where you can make your contribution of $2.99. Once completed, you will receive a separate email with download instructions. It will also have an email address to contact me should something go wrong and I can then reset the link for you. I hope everyone's having a great week. I'll be posting Take 3 of this set on Thursday and have already started in on the "Winter Edition” which is coming up short on new material. Hopefully, some new tunes will start showing up this week, otherwise, it will be my first single set in a long time. I'll be back in a couple of days. Until then, enjoy!
