What a joy it was to speak with Marcus Gayle and with Megan Bespolka, who is the International Marketing Manger for Brentford Football Club.  We talk the Nashville Fan Fest as well as about international membership for American fans - and how to plan your journey to the GTech.  Along with Greville Waterman I get a chance to ask Marcus about some of the memories he has of his two spells at Brentford.  Some simply great stories that are alone really worth a listen.   Marcus is truly the definition of an Ambassador for the club. This is a great podcast, if I do say so myself, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did putting it together.

What an honor to talk with two true legends of Brentford football Club.  Gary Blissett and Marcus Gayle, both in the Brentford Hall of Fame, serve as Ambassadors for the three matches in America.  And they were kind enough to join us for a discussion of their careers and their experiences here in the States this week.  They're great players and great people.I want to thank Brentford Football Club for making them available, and to thank John Kenkel and Greville Waterman for their invaluable experiences and insights on this most wonderful of conversations.  If you're a Bees fan, new or old, you'll love hearing from these two fantastic members of the Brentford community.

Two more games played. Still no wins. Things are starting to get desperate. After a 1-1 draw against Reading - where Brentford should have bad the game wrapped up after 45 minutes - the Bees put out a much changed side against Norwich and were well and truly turned over. The fans weren't happy. How much longer can this go on for. The Beesotted came together for a solemn session in The Distillers pub in Fulham Palace Road - just down from Hammersmith station - where they drowned their sorrows in all manner of assorted Pride unfiltered beer and Black Cab stout. Did it make things any clearer? Not really. In the boozer: Billy Grant Dave Lane Matt Allard Lots and lots of questions including: The Reading and Norwich matches. Were Brentford justified in fielding a weakened side? Were the crowd justified booing the players? Taking away 1200 or so Norwich fans there were around 3500 Brentford fans in the stadium for the Norwich match. About as many as we took to Birmingham 7 years ago in the same round of the same cup. If the club can't be bothered to take it seriously then should they be upset if the fans don't take it seriously? Are Brentford lacking a leader? Is the balance of the team wrong? Are results now Dean Smith's responsibility or the Director of Footballs' responsibility? Plus we discuss the forthcoming social on Saturday 14th October on the morning of the Millwall home match which will feature a conversation and Q&A with Brentford legend Bobby Booker. We discuss random stuff from the forthcoming Big Griffin Park book. Lionel Road. The appointment of a woman to the Brentford board. First up is Gary Roberts and Francis Joseph - a footballing double act if ever there is one. Theres two guys were hilarious. Forming a lethal striking partnership back in the 80s playing in the team with the killer midfield of Stan Bowles, Terry Hurlock and Chris Kamara, you could see that the Roberts/Joseph bond was still there 30 years later. They had the audience in stitches - cracking joke after joke. Gary Roberts claimed that he had invented the Cruyff turn - years before the master of the Cruyff turn Johan Cryff had actually coined the phrase.
Francis Joseph told the audience how he was ‘tapped up' (allegedly) by Brentford in the bar after a match at Griffin Park after just destroying The Bees - scoring two goals in Wimbledon's comeback which saw them win 3-2 after being 2-0 down at half time. They talk about Stan Bowles' dodgy entourage - some sort of West London mafia. Three months later he was playing football down at Griffin Park With the summer fast approaching, 90 Brentford fans joined the Dave Lane and Billy Grant from Beesotted and a bunch of Brentford legends - Gary Roberts, Francis Joseph, Billy Manuel & Graham Benstead - at the fabulous Drayton Court Hotel in Ealing to see the season off in style at their end of season Pride of West London Bees-Up.
