From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Today is Friday, October 25th and I'm Keith Ippolito. In the race for the Post 7 seat on the Cobb County Board of Education, incumbent Republican Brad Wheeler leads in fundraising against Democratic challenger Andrew Cole. Wheeler has raised over $46,000, with significant contributions from notable figures and organizations, while Cole has raised over $16,800, relying heavily on small donations. Both candidates have received support from high-profile backers, with Wheeler benefiting from contributions linked to a law firm involved in a district lawsuit, and Cole receiving indirect support from a Super PAC associated with the Southern Poverty Law Center. The PAC has launched a website criticizing Wheeler's leadership, though Cole denies any coordination with them. The election, which could shift partisan control of the board, is closely watched, with the final financial disclosures due soon. For more news about our community, visit mdjonline.com. Born in Buffalo NY, his father wore two hats as pianist and conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He would seat Dave in the orchestra pit during performances as early as seven years old. Dave's brother Robert would soon become a multiple Grammy-nominated classical percussionist, and his sister an accomplished rock/soul singer. Shortly after his father's passing when Dave was 10, he suddenly took an interest in the piano that was sitting idly in the living room. Osmosis? Within six months Dave had mastered the C Sonata by Mozart, and began an obsession with XTC, Herbie Hancock, Yes, Todd Rundgren and of course, DEVO. Pretty diverse for an 11 year old. He clearly made the right choice. By the age of 17, he was one of the top keyboardists in his hometown, winning multiple awards consistently for seven years. Finally the big break came, when Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls called and left a simple message from sunny LA: “you wanna come out and tour with us for a year?” In a matter of one day Dave went from playing in front of 300 in a local Buffalo bar to playing Woodstock in front of 65000. This led to a two-and-a-half year relationship with the Goo Goo Dolls that took Dave around the world twice as touring keyboardist/vocalist for the “Dizzy Up The Girl” tour, the landmark album that spawned five top ten singles between 98 and 2000. Segment 3, May 27, 2023 It has been in the news lately.  Bats in high schools, alligator attacks in Florida, bears in the Asheville-area, & snake sightings occurring more frequently. As the weather warms, we all head for the outdoors.  Whether it is a hiking, fishing, golfing trip, or working in the yard we interact more with wildlife. Andrew Cole, owner/operator of Song Dog Wildlife Management comes on to the Carolina Outdoor podcast to educate us on what's happening & what we should do. We'll learn that warm weather doesn't just get us outside.  It starts moving snakes around more.  He'll talks about identifying them, how to handle them, and a few extraction stories along the way.  After snakes comes the subject of bats, squirrels, & then the namesake of the company, the song dogs, the coyote. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said in a statement that more coyotes are being seen right now because they are out seeking food.  Primarily in order to feed their young litter of pups.  Although they don't interact with humans much, Cole warns us that coyotes with pups can be unpredictable. The wildlife commission states, “pup season brings an added factor to interacting with coyotes”.  This time of year, if you pass through a brushy or wooded area and notice a coyote watching you or following you at a distance, it could have a den nearby,” biologist Falyn Owens said in the group's statement. “Calmly leave the area and notify others if you are near a public trail." Cole has been in business over ten years as the owner of Song Dog Wildlife.  His company deals with nuisance wildlife, prevention, re-entry, & education and consultation. During the interview, Bill Bartee, host of the Carolina Outdoors, mentioned that there have been several Pepper or Bear Spray phone calls for coyote personal protection. It never fails that when the weather warms, so do the wildlife sightings. Bartee interviewed Cole holding a Pepper Spray cannister provided Charlotte fly shop, Jesse Brown's, while wearing the ever-popular, Patagonia Stand Up Shorts from Jesse Brown's.

Andrew was listed as crew on the manifest, but his role was a very clear one – it was up to him to ensure the safe receipt, passage and transfer of the cocaine to a crew who were going to come out from the UK to take delivery of it near the English Channel. But as the Kahu reached the end of its journey from Barbados as it cruised past Guernsey, Andrew thought he heard a noise – or was it just his imagination playing tricks on him? He then clearly saw two vessels approach and to his horror he realised that is was the 42 metre Border Force cutter ‘Searcher' along with the 19 metre coastal patrol vessel ‘Alert'. A black hole roaming across a galaxy sounds like bad sci fi horror, but may have been found. How can you spot a black hole without any frame of reference? Was Hegel a medieval thinker? In The Birth of Theory (University of Chicago Press, 2014), Andrew Cole puts forward a reexamination of Hegelian dialectics that embeds Hegel in a long tradition of medieval dialectical thinking and suggests that it is precisely Hegel's engagement with medieval modes of thought that make his work a productive source for Marx and the later thinkers who develop dialectical thinking into theory as we know it today. The Birth of Theory challenges readers with insights won from strenuous contests with the writing of history, philosophy, religion, literature, and political economy. As he makes the case for rereading Hegelian dialectics based on the essentially feudal social and economic organization of Germany in Hegel's moment, Cole drives at the arbitrary distinctions between medieval and modern but also those between dialectical and anti-dialectical thinking, writing a long arc of intellectual history that renegotiates theory's relationship to Plato, Aristotle, Plotinus, Hegel, Marx, Heidegger, Deleuze and many others in between (xviii). Along the way, the argument asks readers to dispense with a host of critical cliches as it winds deftly between close readings of Pseudo-Dionysius and Nietzsche's Birth of Tragedy to comparative readings of Hegel on the Eucharist and Marx on the commodity, closing with focused and revelatory attention on the legacy established by Hegel in using medieval genres in response to the modern condition. Carl Nellis is an academic editor and writing instructor working north of Boston, where he researches contemporary American community formation around appropriations of medieval European culture.
