Hello 2Legs Faithful! We finally were able to record a proper episode again after a few hectic weeks post-Fest and Venus and Mars 50th Anniversary. This week on 2Legs Andy and Tom talk Macca Remixes! There are plenty of Macca Remixes out there; most of them coming during the Maxi-Single era of the 1980s. Special Thanks to Susan Gagne for this topic! The most recent one would be the remixes of 'Hope For The Future' that came out on that EP. "Thrash", "Beatsession", "Jaded" and "Mirwais" (2014). We give 5 selections (and play some samples of all the songs!) and list an honourable mention. It many cases sometimes the remix of a particular song worked out better than the official album version! What are some of your favourite Macca remixes he's released over the years? Thanks to the sales explosion of compact discs in the 1990s, the expanded playable length of time from forty-four minutes of vinyl to nearly eight minutes gave bands plenty of room to stretch and experiment not only on albums but other releases as well. Re-enter the single, once the domain of 7" vinyl and cassingles, cd singles allowed for bands to release even more material across multiple formats, occasionally helping to propel bands on multiple charts with dance remixes and such. Depeche Mode were no stranger to using singles to release non-album material, and one fine example is the 1990 World In My Eyes maxi-single released by their American label, Sire Records. Welcome to another special edition, devoted to UK electronic music artist, John Dyson, whose musical career has spanned nearly 35 years, with his first band, Wavestar, formed with David Ward Hunt, (who sadly passed away in 1999), releasing 3 albums in the 80’s and going solo with 6 more over a 20 year period. In 2018 saw the formation of new Wavestar 2, accompanied by accomplished composers and studio-technicians Paul Ward and Stephan Whitlan, releasing the debut album “Nightwind’s. Once described as a "cheeky chappie" by none other than Sir Paul McCartney, John Dyson has been a leading light in the UK Electronic Music scene for many years. This week, on Friday March 30th, Doe launches the first volume in his new “Maxi-Single Sessions” series. The concept is simple - Doe on the beats, and one MC / group on the rhymes, and we crank out a Maxi-Single. Remember back in the day when you’d cop a single with that Maxi-Single designation on it? It wasn’t just an A/B side single, but wasn’t an EP? It could be two or three joints, and then a remix or two thrown in? Well there you go! The first volume is with none other than ID4Windz of Scienz of Life fame, and we couldn’t have our interview session this week be with anyone else. We dig into the new project, what he has around the corner in 2018 as well as some personal things like family - his son just got a full ride to Princeton, ya’ll! We get into the history too - forming Scienz of Life with brother John Robinson, meeting Bobbito @ the Nuyorican Cafe and subsequently finding themselves on Fondle ‘Em Records, their move down South with Bigg Jus in the late 90s and how they ended up connecting with MF DOOM.
