I wonder if you had any insights on the influence of animé on the transgender community. I previously told you about my lifelong gender dysphoria. I had it under control for many years, but after years in a toxic relationship with a psychopath, which destroyed my sense of self and a serendipitous recommendation from my daughter to watch the animé movie Kimi No Nawa (Your Name), which features body/gender swapping between the main characters Taki and Mitsuha, I had a serious mental breakdown which triggered my gender transition at age 64. The director. Makoto Shinkai was deeply influenced by the manga Inside Mari, which also featured a gender swapping plot. I happened to later listen to a podcast by Sasha Ayad, who specializes in treating gender dysphoria in teens. She mentions in the podcast that some of her patients were influenced by watching animé. I had never heard of that connection nor is my viewing of animé broad enough to know of any other instances of gender swapping/bending in the genre. Do you know of other such animé? What is your opinion about the influence of animé on the transgender community?" Well Mrs. Anonymous thanks for the donation and topic. That podcast you sent me I put in the description. It's between two female psychologists that discuss their clients that are transgendered and what made them that way. I also put a conversation with Jordan Peterson and Joe Rogan as the not so mystery link. In both interviews they discuss Dr. Ray Blanchard a doctor in Toronto that mapped out characteristics of trans people in the 80s and 90s. He pointed out that there were two types of transexuals. The ones that were homosexual and the other group that were autogynephilics. Peterson says that only after 30 to 40 years later did Blanchard's research become controversial. He was cancelled for his life work trying to understand trans people. As for the podcast you sent me the two women in it did say that many of their clients triggered gender dysphoria because they watched things like sissy hypno. Even the transmaxxing manifesto suggests that gender dysphoria can be induced by watching sissy hypno content on adult websites. If you have to ask what that is then it's not for you. So Mrs. Anonymous it looks like the film Kimi no Na wa, an 2016 Japanese animated film where a teenage boy and teenage girl in high school swap bodies finally set you off and you transitioned. It was a huge hit and made 380 million dollars worldwide. I think that to understand if certain types of anime can induce gender dysphoria we have to look at the different types of trans people and what gets each group to transition. The ones that are autogynopheliacs are probably the easiest to understand because they get turned on by putting on women's clothing. The second group 80% are gay and usually incredibly feminine and girlish as boys. They typically have high voices and female friends circle. 20% of that second group are not gay and the two female psychologists just call them weird. They also identify a 4th category and say they are scared soft and gentle. Mrs. anonymous you're probably in group 3 or 4. They claim that those groups tend to have men that are bright and a little autistic. That's what Kat the Vat, the content creator with the main transmaxxing channel out there pointed out that incels which tend to be on the autistic side are more likely to question their sexuality. Your Name[b] (Japanese: 君の名は。, Hepburn: Kimi no Na wa) is a 2016 Japanese animated romantic fantasy film written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, produced by CoMix Wave Films and distributed by Toho. It depicts the story of high school students Taki Tachibana and Mitsuha Miyamizu, who suddenly begin to swap bodies despite having never met, unleashing chaos on each other's lives. The film was inspired by the frequency of natural disasters in Japan. Your Name premiered at the 2016 Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 3, 2016, and was theatrically released in Japan on August 26, 2016; it was released internationally by several distributors in 2017. It features the voices of Ryunosuke Kamiki and Mone Kamishiraishi, with animation direction by Masashi Ando, character design by Masayoshi Tanaka, and its orchestral score and soundtrack composed by Radwimps. A light novel of the same name, also written by Shinkai, was published a month prior to the film's premiere. The film received widespread critical acclaim, with praise for its story, animation, music, visuals, and emotional weight. Grossing over US$382 million worldwide, it became the third highest-grossing Japanese film of all time, breaking numerous box office records, unadjusted for inflation. It received several accolades, including the Best Animated Feature at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, the 49th Sitges Film Festival, and the 71st Mainichi Film Awards; it was also nominated for the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year. A live-action remake is in development at Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions. Mitsuha Miyamizu is a high school student in the rural town of Itomori, Japan. Bored of the town, she wishes to be a Tokyo boy in her next life. Soon, she begins to intermittently switch bodies with Taki Tachibana, a boy from Tokyo. On certain days, Taki and Mitsuha wake up in each other's bodies and must live the entire day as the other, reverting when they go to sleep at night. The two set up ground rules for sharing their bodies, communicating via messages on paper, their phones, and their skin. Mitsuha (in Taki's body) sets Taki up on a date with his coworker, Miki Okudera, while Taki (in Mitsuha's body) helps Mitsuha become more popular at school. While in Mitsuha's body, Taki accompanies Mitsuha's grandmother Hitoha and younger sister Yotsuha to the Shinto shrine on a mountain near Itomori, leaving an offering of kuchikamizake made with Mitsuha's spit. Hitoha explains that god is the ruler over both time and the connections between humans. Mitsuha tells Taki that the comet Tiamat is expected to pass nearest to Earth on the day of the autumn festival. The next day, Taki goes on the date with Miki in his own body; Miki enjoys the date but says she can tell Taki is preoccupied with someone else. Realizing he is falling for Mitsuha, Taki attempts to call her on the phone but cannot reach her. The body-switching stops as inexplicably as it started. Plot[edit]

On the third episode of this Anime August, Scarlett, Gunner, and Ashley have a thoughtful conversation about the smash hit anime film, Your Name, as Jake twiddles his thumbs thinking up his next joke. Which is the same thing he did while writing this episode description! Mitsuha is just a small town girl that gets on a train going anywhere. Taki is just a city boy that wakes up in Mitsuha's body. And she wakes up in his. The pair share their bodies with one another and communicate through notes on their phones but one day that all stops. Years later Taki goes to her small town to meet her only to learn that it was struck by a meteor. Upon learning this his memory begins to unravel as he fights to remember only to recognize a place Mitsuha's grandmother brought him to and he falls and is transported back into her body the day she died. Taki along with Mitsuha's friends go out of their way to evacuate the town to save everyone despite the mayor, Mitsuha's father. Right before the crash Taki returns to his body only for Mitsuha to return and the adult Taki meets the young Mitsuha at dawn between the worlds and time only to begin forgetting one another and try to remember. Back in the present an adult Taki runs into an adult Mitsuha, each asking one question of the other, whats your name? The red string of fate leads the pair from “Small Town Girl” by Journey into a Freaky Friday situation that is only destroyed by the plot if a disaster film only to be saved with a Groundhog's Day situation. The film relies on the fact that its two characters are partially on a delay between when the other takes over their body. Its a sweet film thats excellently written and directed.
Episode 99 is a special instalment of the podcast recorded Live at the British Film Institute in London back in May 2022, with Chris and Alex joined by an audience of anime fans to discuss Your Name (Makoto Shinkai, 2016) as part of the BFI's Anime season. Featuring an introduction to the artistry and creativity of anime, an examination of Your Name's temporal loops and overlapping rhythms, and a lively Q&A with those gathered at the BFI's Reuben Library, this episode features a conversation about writer/director Makoto Shinkai's romantic animated fantasy - and its pleasures of longing - as protagonists Taki and Mitsuha magically and unexpectedly swap bodies across time and space. Topics for this episode include Japanese anime as a shifting and unstable category of animation, as well as both a local and global cultural phenomenon; the liminal spaces of Your Name as a film invested in temporality and mobility; non-Western traditions of fantasy storytelling and their desire to fracture logic and rationality; the cyclical/linear rhythms that structure the movement of Taki and Mitsuha across temporal (and historical) boundaries; the spectral quality to Shinkai's handling of characters that ‘haunt' multiple spaces; and what Your Name has to say about national culture in its two competing - and highly gendered - visions of Japan. **Fantasy/Animation theme tune composed by Francisca Araujo**

Dawson and Philip take a trip back to 2016 with Japanese animated film 'Your Name' from writer/director Makoto Shinkai and CoMix Wave Films. Two high-schoolers from different worlds find themselves mysteriously intertwined as they each experience episodes of missing time, quickly learning that they've been periodically switching bodies for a day at a time. Taki is an artist living in busy Tokyo and Mitsuha is a Shinto ritual performer in rural Japan. While their memories of being in each other's body are vague, they learn a great deal about each other through the notes they leave in their phones. Things take a turn when Taki discovers that Mitsuha lives three years in the past. This complicates any chance the two have of meeting in person, as their connection's strength seems tied to a passing comet in 2013--an event that holds great significance to Mitsuha and her spiritual destiny. 节目组:The Screen Age 荧屏时代 节目名称:Your Name 你的名字M: Hello, my dear audiences. We haven't seen for a long time. Welcome back to the Screen Age. I'm Mico.Y: I'm Yolanda. First, let's congratulate a lucky audience called Alice and now let's share her excellent reply. 首先我们要公布上期的幸运听众Alice。然后来让我们欣赏一下她的精彩回答。Talking of the reasons of movies popular. In my view, movies display different kinds of lives, well, especially, some are exactly the men looking forward to. Today we will change our former styles that talking about western films. We'd like to recommend a Japanese film which is called Your Name.M: It's an impressed film and tears sprout in my eyes at the end of the story. It's a film that suits lovers, but, you know, on the other side, it's also a film that strikes damn singles like many of us.Y: That's really brilliant! I can't agree more. Anyway, we hope all of you can find a companion to see the movie. F: What's more, it's time for the quiz show. Recently, many apps offered a Your Name style for taking pictures. So if you're interested in, please take a photo in that style and send it to our wechat. 另外,最近许多相机应用推出了“你的名字”风格的滤镜,如果你感兴趣的话,请拍一张这样的照片并发给我们的微信公众号。Y: Now, let's begin our story.A: The film tells a story about love between a boy and a girl exchanging their bodies and falling in love as they, gradually getting to know each other better. F: Mitsuha is the heroine of the film who lives in a small mountain town. She's a high school girl living with her sister and grandmother. She has always been dreaming of leaving the boring town and trying her luck to discover another world. H: Taki is our hero who is a high school boy studying in Tokyo as well as doing a part-time job in a Italian restaurant. They're two unrelated individuals, however, something marvellous happen to them. L: Every night Taki has a strange dream in which he becomes a high school girl in a small mountain town. At the same time, Mitsuha dreams that she becomes a boy in Tokyo! As time goes by, they used to live in each other's body in dreams.I: However, one day, Taki realized that he would never meet Mitsuha only in dreams. He decided to find his lover faced with the block that he even didn't know where she lived. F: He walked across the mountains in search of her with the memories of the town scenery. When he struggled to find the town, only to find that the small town disappeared three years ago because of comet hitting. More strangely, he found that Mitsuha had died in the disaster.H: With grief sweeping through, Taki suddenly thought of chewing wine is half part of Mitsuha, he decided to travel through time to save her. After drinking wine, he woke up in her body once again. Mitsuha and her partners conceived an escape plan and succeeded to save the life of the whole town. F: Although they tried their best to recall each other's names, they forgot her and him after they returned to normal life.B: Satisfactorily, at the end of the story, when they meet in Tokyo 5 years later, they look into each other with tears and call out his and her names.M: If you are interested in Japanese cartoon, you may familiar with the director of this animated film, Makoto Shinkai. Another famous film of his is Byousoku 5 Centimeter, which is a very touching and classical film.Y: He was born in 1973 in Nagano, Japan as Makoto Niitsu. He is a writer as well as director. His mostly works are sad but beautiful. M: He is good at telling stories. Once he said, “The first thing you make is a story. Then you decide where the location of the story will be, and how the story will develop. Y: And then when you think how the visuals will be in this process, then you finally think about how you take something from the setting and use it, how to depict it, and how to make the setting beautiful.” In his mind, story always comes first.M: Maybe that's why his movies always attract us. He really knows how to play with our emotion. Whats 'more, he is really funny. He says, if a girl and a boy go to see the movie and they don't become lover after seeing it, they don't fit.Y: It looks like he has much confidence in his work. But indeed, he did a good job in this work.H:The movie wins a great success both in Japan and world. It has grossed $ 6 million released only for two days. This year, in October, the film received The 8th Newtype animation award for First Prize and The 18th South Korea Fuchuan International Animation Festival long race department special prizes for outstanding and audience.F: What deserves to be mention is Director Makoto Shinkai. His works had always been criticized due to the thin plots, but right now, something changeable has not only reflected in the level of wallpaper frame, but also being accepted by people of all ages.B: The director has created a journey in a world breathing with atmosphere, mystery and visual wonder. A journey about growth and resilience in the face of overwhelming odds. A journey about human emotion that transcends space and time.I: The film explores the nature of life and relationships in quiet ways rarely seen or discussed, which is why most of them are not fast-paced or action packed and why they are so beautiful. Without spoiling, what mainly drives this film's story is the dynamics of our main characters' relationship. H: The way these two interact is just so unique and lovable. The premise itself allows them to bond on a more personal level, far more intriguing than the usual teenage love story. Eventually, you become so invested in their strange relationship, that when all the action goes down, it's no longer just suspenseful, it's almost heartbreaking.A: Editing and sound design also play a huge role in this immersion. There's rarely a single dull moment because of how gripping and emotionally driven the timing of every cut is. L: It's no doubt that Your Name has stricken to many hearts ever since Spirited Away. We highly recommend you to go to cinema, recently or later.M: Many of you may have seen the film, recently and the plots make your tears course down the cheek. Y: It doesn's matter whether you are damn single or not, because what you are experiencing is youth just like Mituha and Taki. M: Many of us are stroke a chord when we saw this film, because we could find something similar in our daily life. So this is today's program, hope you like it.Y: By the way, wish all of you can find the true love and happiness in life. F: At last, don't forget our quiz show: take a photo in Your Name style and send to us. 最后别忘记发照片给我们的微信公众号。M: 最后感谢制作张安康。See you next time, bye!Y: Bye!节目监制:刘逸超编辑:张洁川播音:杨旸 李梓彤 赛碧乐 张洁川 杨晨丹 邹佳琳 赵艺薇 毕鑫屹制作:张安康
