It's an EmMajority Report Thursday! Today she speaks with Dr. Eviane Leidig, postdoctoral fellow at the Tilburg University, to discuss her recent book The Women of the Far Right: Social Media Influencers and Online Radicalization. Then, she speaks with Kate Wagner, architecture critic at The Nation, to discuss her recent piece entitled "Luxury Brands Are Buying Our Cities." First, Emma runs through updates on Israel's seizure and closing of the Egypt-Gaza border, continuing backlash to Biden's support for Israel, Trump's legal woes and cabinet promises, NATO-Russia tensions, Alito's corruption, Boeing safety problems, Hong Kong's crackdown on pro-Democracy activists, elections in South Africa and Mexico, and India's major heatwave, before diving deeper into the recent resignations from the Biden Administration, and touching on Trump rallying the cronies as his Hush Money trial reaches the jury deliberation phase. Dr. Eviane Leidig then joins, parsing through what makes the Alt-Right distinct from the generically xenophobic and white supremacist Republican Party, how they used the rise of Internet forums and social media to recruit the chronically online alienated youth, and the major roles played by Gamergate and January 6th in their rise and fall, respectively. Next, Dr. Leidig looks to the ecosystem of the women of the Alt-Right, and how their strategic presentation allows their fascist propaganda to largely float under the radar, tackling the common career trajectory that found many women commentators on the Alt-Right shifting to lifestyle-influencing in the wake of the January 6th collapse of the Alt-Right and the rise of COVID, presenting trad-wife-eque content for their largely-male audience and working alongside the Christian and Manosphere influencers under the banner of anti-feminism. After expanding on the central role anti-feminism plays in the Alt-Right's current trajectory, Dr. Leidig wraps up by touching on the particulars of the Alt-Right's recruitment of young women and the major role interpersonal intervention plays in escaping the pipeline. Kate Wagner then walks Emma through this ongoing problem of the corporate “Disney-fication” of our cities, with an increasing trend of corporations buying up entire neighborhoods for glorified (and extremely exclusive) publicity stunts. Tackling the examples of Bilbao's Guggenheim and the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Wager explores how these monstrosities exploit loopholes to essentially get the public to pay for the enclosure of their commons, before she and Emma wrap up with the central role that Private Equity and commercial real estate have played in promoting this process. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they talk with Keister from Florida about the value of progressive infighting, watch Dave Rubin promote Hungary's wildly homophobic regime, and listen to Rep. Moskowitz explain why justice for war crimes is a fantasy. They also cover the continuing arrests by Israeli police over social media engagement, Fiora from Minnesota on the importance of independent coverage of Palestine, and discuss electoral strategy come November, plus, your calls and IMs! Attacking ideas were there, we just weren't quite incisive enough for most of the first 45. There was more opportunity for us to counter off of their direct play. 2: All that being said, ball retention in the opposition half was very good. All Chicago was interested in was counters and direct balls. Ironically enough two of our goals came off direct play. We continue to score in a variety of ways. 3: We've got a back up to back up our back up plan. Jamal is a proper back up striker. That's massive for us given some of the injury problems GG has and his international duty. Great finisher with great instincts. 4: This was the game Noah Cobb needed and he did not put a foot wrong. We were pretty dominant throughout but he had just enough to do. He's had really tough matches so this should be a confidence builder for him. 5: Somehow, someway, we've got to replicate these home performances on the road. The Benz is becoming a fortress again. Michael Murray, who was 44 years old at the time of the sting, engaged in online conversations with a decoy he believed to be a 13-year-old girl named "Michelle". In an attempt to deceive her, Murray lied about his age, claiming to be 32 years old. Despite living only six minutes away from the sting house, Murray quickly steered the conversation towards romance, dating, and ultimately, sex. After chatting with the decoy for two and a half hours, Murray decided to go to the house for a dinner from McDonald's, with the intention of engaging in sexual activity. Upon arriving at the sting house, Murray encountered Chris Hansen already in the midst of a conversation with Jeremy Keister. Decoy Casey Mauro ushered Murray inside, who was seen carrying a bag of McDonald's food and sporting a smile on his face. However, upon entering, he was met with Hansen, who invited him to sit down and join the conversation. This is another Hurrdat Media Production. Parker and Landon decodes Verstappen's Monaco triumph and speculate on potential strategy tweaks at Redbull and Mercedes, all while airing out cautionary tales about over-reliance on racing simulators. The discourse picks up speed with hot takes on the Indy500 red flag decision, the advantages of the "snaking" technique, and a revelation of Josef Newgarden's Indy500 windfall. The pair trade wit and wisdom over F1 paydays, the NASCAR clash between Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin, and how Corey Lajoie will do in the 9 car. Emma hosts Victoria Bassetti, Senior Advisor of States United Action and author of Electoral Dysfunction: A Survival Manual for American Voters, to discuss the upcoming state elections all across the country coming up next Tuesday. First, Emma runs through updates on ANOTHER Fed interest rate hike, polling in PA, WI, and NC ahead of the midterms, Bolsonaro's private concession, and Netanyahu's return to Israeli politics with a far-right coalition behind him, before diving into Biden's address of the presence of democracy on the ballot in 2022. Victoria Bassetti then joins as she gets right into the work being done at States United Action to track the presence of anti-democratic candidates, beginning in 2021 with reports from both the grassroots and institutional sides of a rising tide of election deniers running for office, and inspiring SUA to keep tabs on state races for the big three seats (Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State). After painting a picture of the serious prevalence of election deniers on ballots across the US, Bassetti and Emma walk through the ballots in various swings states, exploring why Arkansas and Georgia have no election deniers on the ballot while Arizona and Michigan might have multiple seats go that direction, and touching on the prevalence of these politicians even in solid blue places like New York. Wrapping up, Victoria and Emma very briefly touch on the upcoming Moore v. Harper case in the Supreme Court, walk through the various right-wing attempts to stifle voting (both mail-in and in-person), and discuss how individuals can fight back against these tactics heading into the midterms. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Matt and Brandon as they assess the recent discourse on anti-semitism and Black Hebrew Israelites, before watching an old Bo Burnham clip on capitalism's evolution from colonization of land to its attack on attention, and Keister from Florida discusses the anti-semitism at the recent Georgia-Florida game. Fox host Pete Hegseth explores how the libs made up social studies, bells, and sitting in rows, Sam from Wisconsin talks anti-Matt Walsh protests, and Matt Binder parses through his deep-dive exposé on Jimmy Dore's sockpuppet account, plus, your calls and IMs!
