"Based on true events" or "Inspired by true events" is not that uncommon for film, especially the thriller and horror genres. The new film, THE MAN IN THE WHITE VAN, is one of them. Though completely fictional, it is inspired by the real life Florida serial killer Billy Mansfield. From Rottentomatoes: "Inspired by a true story, "The Man in the White Van" delves into the eerie underbelly of a seemingly idyllic 1975 Florida town, and follows the harrowing experience of young Annie Williams, a spirited girl whose carefree existence is turned upside down as she becomes stalked by an ominous man in a white van."The film was directed and co-written by Warren Skeels. The film starts Madison Wolfe, Brec Bassinger, Ali Larter, and Sean Astin. With the help of Ali Larter, Sean Astin, and Giovanni Ribisi (as cinematographer) to independently produce, the movie was picked up by Relativity Media for distribution. It received mixed reviews on release, but is this film truly a hidden gem that everyone must see?

It was just reported on Friday that the head of the Pittsburgh Secret Service field office and several agents have been placed on administrative duties. So, they are no longer in the field. They are holding an HR investigation that is still ongoing. To my surprise, over one month after the shooting, no Secret Service personnel has been fired or reprimanded. After all, an Antifa shooter like Maxwell Yearick could have bought the ladder at Home Depot since his phone pinged there, and then Yearick put the bloody receipt in Crooks pocket, sort of like the Pristine Bullet from the Kennedy Assassination. What does the new video add? Someone ran across the roof. It is hard to know just WHO that was. Crooks is 6'4” and that is really tall, everyone thought the shooter was short.  Cell phone data is so accurate and precise you can tell direction you can tell the landscape of the phone and everything else. You can match all of that w/ the IP addresses. How can you be in this digital era and the only photographs are all grainy? So far in the investigation with no leads on the ladder purchase, we just have to believe some ladders are invisible. And even though Yearick's phone pinged the Home Depot in Butler, PA on July 8th, we are not allowed to entertain the notion Yearick brought the Home Depot in his White Van to the Assassination site. I provided photos here for the FBI to show Yearick's shorter hair and Crooks's longer hair just in case they don't have these pictures Is it time for a press conference to clear some of these mysteries up, because right now it looks like Crooks got set up as a spotter and got his head blown off for volunteering. - George Webb

To call Piper Laurie an underrated genre icon would not be entirely correct. She was an award winning actress who grabbed the spotlight in pretty much everything she was in. It is not until looking at her entire career that her contributions can be truly appreciated. We also revisit the idea of a Halloween television show and talk about the future of the V/H/S franchise.True crime stories have real life horror naturally built into them. The Man in the White Van decides to lean into horror tropes and gives an almost slasher feel. It is a good idea in theory, but the execution makes for one of the worst things we have seen this year. From confusing editing to an ending that fails to work on any level, we go over everything it did wrong while trying to find something good about it.At the other end of the spectrum is Last Stop Larrimah. For obvious reasons, there are not a lot of lighthearted true crime documentaries. This HBO documentary looks at the mysterious disappearance of a man living in the Australian outback. He lives in a small town of eleven people, and everyone is a suspect.The film is able to mix humorous moments into its dark story without ever taking away from the gravity of the case. It is a bit of fresh storytelling that injects life into the genre. The already interesting case is made even more engaging thanks to the way in which everything unfolds.
