Inaiah Lujan is a multifaceted and prolific creator. Music is at the heart of his work. In fact, he might be most widely known for his time with a folk band he co-founded, The Haunted Windchimes. Inaiah recently wrapped his first seasons of a web series called “Hanging Out with Inaiah Lujan” and his new podcast, Cast the Line, an interview series about creative process and wellness. We talk about his growing up on the Navajo Nation in Arizona as part of a non-Navajo family. We talk about impostor syndrome, authenticity, rebellion and Inaiah’s experiences with sweat lodge ceremonies. Inaiah also defines success and dispels the myth about being a “Jack of all trades, master of none.” He shares about a band breakup and getting divorced. And he shines light on mental health, overcoming shame, practices of loving oneself ... and the act of living as nothing short of magic. Men hvordan?

We catch up with George and Matt of The Raven Age to talk about Matt's recent entrance into the band, their busy summer coming up on the European festival circuit, and we play their brand new track 'Surrogate' We also play pulse-raising cuts from Godsmack, Bad Wolves, Papa Roach, Skindred, and Scott gets very excited about the new Five Finger Death Punch album 'And Justice for None'.
This powerhouse writer (the first black woman ever to win a comedy writing Emmy), actress ('Master of None' and 'Ready Player One') and creator/producer (Showtime's new series about Chicago's South Side) — who recently appeared on Vanity Fair's cover and was named by Time as one of the world's 100 most influential people — reflects on her upbringing, the importance of mentorship and the kaleidoscopic way her career has come together. But first: Natalie Jarvey, THR's digital media editor, joins Scott to discuss her cover story chronicling the rise of — and challenges facing — Hulu, the streaming service behind 'The Handmaid's Tale.' Credits: Hosted by Scott Feinberg, recorded and produced by Matthew Whitehurst.
Outlouders, we need to talk about American actor Aziz Ansari. The creator and star of the Netflix show 'Master of None' was accused of sexual assault by feminist website, Babe. If you watched the 2017 Emmys, you may have noticed that the category of “Music Supervisor” was added to the awards slate. The acknowledgement represents a growing appreciation for television soundtracks, and the idea that a well placed song can have as much impact on a show’s style and tone as the cinematography or the costume design. Beyond that, thanks to incredible soundtracks on shows like Issa Rae’s 'Insecure', Aziz Ansari’s 'Master of None', and Donald Glover’s 'Atlanta', television has become one of the best places to discover new music. Rob sat down with Zach Cowie, one of the best music supervisors in the business, to learn more about this evolving field. Cowie talks about his path from record store clerk to soundtrack designer on 'Master of None', why his job is less glamorous than people think, and why easier access to music through streaming services isn’t necessarily a good thing. He also talks about his favourite music moments in film and television history, and tells us what song he’d want played at his funeral.
Sam talks to producer, writer, and actor Lena Waithe about microwavable pork rinds, growing up in front of the TV in Chicago, transcribing reality television footage, finally making it as a Hollywood writer, powerful storytelling by people of color, and writing and acting in Master Of None with Aziz Ansari.

We are going to bring TWO kinds of Nasty this week, as the Nasty Train Express takes off...choo choo! Nnekay finally saw 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and James has a question he's been burning to ask her- don't worry no spoilers, but was the portrayal of Mantis kind of offensive? Also Nnekay gives us her takeaways from the hit Netflix series 'Masters of None', while James goes off on a tangent about 'Passions'. As promised (from two weeks ago) James finishes the second part of his investigation into immigration, this time focusing on Asian immigration which led him to connect the dots to the myth about the "Model Minority". In Nnekay's Korner she is going to sprinkle some pop culture with her facts as she looks at "The Handmaiden's Tale", are the laws in this fantasy already a reality? Plus in Quizlet Korner: Does Mike Pence want to have sex with horses? Is Johnny Depp a champion for women? Why is there ANOTHER movie based on a ride, now in it's 5th installment? All this and more as we get... NASTY from all the angles! Gabe & Alex come in hot and fresh out the kitchen, on this weeks episode. We start with a little segment we like to call, 'What Grinds Your Gears?' Is it Trump's fault? (10:21), The Rock vs. Kanye in 2020. Then we DEEP DIVE into 'Master of None' (16:55). What makes this show so great? Season 1 memories. Season 2(26:58), Gabe & Alex almost get into their first on air fight, how REAL the dating episode is, Aziz's Dad, Tickler Sauce & dabble into Summer Flix (1:08:00).

"Awww sookie sookie," now we kick things off with an impromptu Quizlet Korner! Who made that phrase a house hold catch phrase in the 90's (and now looking back it is probably appropriated from Japan. James has a confession to make to Nnekay and you the audience... he watched 'Big Little Lies', but why does he feel so guilty about it? Possibly because it's just a bunch of rich white ladies, depressed, and staring into the ocean. Well we came here for Zoe Kravitz, and stayed for Nicole Kidman who turned it out! 'Masters of None' has reached perfection this season, and why are you still not watching 'Dear White People' yet? Nnekay delivers in an expose about the Tuskegee Study (not to be confused with Tuskegee Airmen of WWII) which was a true fucked up American Horror Story in it's treatment of Black men. Inspired by a recent trip, and conversion to the Yankee's, James takes a peak behind the jockstrap of Major League American Sports: a billion dollar industry. Which sports make what? How much do professional male athletes make compared to females? Why don't folks watch the WNBA? How much do cheerleaders make? What's the racial breakdown? LGBT Athletes? Does testosterone levels increase when your team wins? Why do we say "we" won, or "they" lost? Plus we take a look at the PWR BTTM controversy, and as we say: you gotta side eye your heroes. Also... did you see Drake get upstaged at his cousins prom? Hi there, it's Mo with a podcast all about the Netflix comedy "Master of None." I spoke to co-creator and executive producer Alan Yang and executive producer Mike Schur about the comedy and its origins and its point of view, and we also talked about the state of how TV deals with race, behind the scenes and on screen. These conversations were also part of a couple of big stories I'm dropping this week, on the ABC comedy "Black-ish" and on TV's new, more direct approach to matters of race. If you like this conversation with Schur, by the way, you may like a different conversation with him that we posted a few weeks ago. Be sure to subscribe to the new feed for the podcast here if you like to listen on iTunes. You'll see plenty of ways in each post to stream or download MP3s if you hate iTunes. You can also subscribe on Stitcher if you like. Options abound. Also, we have an email for the podcast now! Click here to email us questions for future podcasts.
