Hop Forward: Getting You Ahead in the Brewing and Beer Business
Sustainability and ethics are not only becoming a part of brewery life but are starting to come to the forefront for the modern beer business. One brewery who are serious about working out their CO2 emissions and make a real life difference is Cheltenham’s DEYA Brewing Company. DEYA have become synonymous with their flagship beer, Steady Rolling Man: a soft, opaque New England style Pale Ale that is like drinking a cloud made of tropical fruits. Theo Frayne, a brewer who studied a Masters of Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt and then completed internships at both Odell Brewing Co. in Colorado and Cotswold Brewery, closer to home, took a leaf out of breweries such as Sierra Nevada's book and focused on perfecting one beer, dialing in the recipe until it was perfect. And it is perfect: a modern classic on every level. It’s little wonder why DEYA have attracted so much attention and affection in the world of beer through that beer alone, not to mention the other fantastic DIPAs, IPAs and other styles to come from their 40HL brewery. For anyone who has conversed with Theo himself, you’ll understand how and why DEYA have achieved the success they have in a relatively short space of time. He is a switched on, intelligent guy who has a deep understanding of both the brewing process and the practical aspects of running a business. THIS WEEK'S EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY... Calvin is back and he's thirsty for more beer! We always appreciate having special guests and want to take some time to thank Calvin for contributing not once but TWICE! Tonight we reviewd German Chocolate Cake Ale (Icicle Brewing Company), Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade (Anheuser Busch), Good Behavior (Crushable IPA from Odell Brewing Co.), Midnight Lager (Stella Atrois), and finally Ludicrous Speed (Juicy IPA from Icewind Brewing Co.). Hope you all have a great week!
Growing up and still today, we probably come across the saying, “listen more than you talk; that is why you have two ears and one mouth.” What about when what you are listening to is your own self-defeating thoughts? Self-doubt, questioning your self-worth, wondering if you are enough – can stop you dead in your tracks! We can get incredibly attached to what we perceive to be our identity and when we are stripped down, what are the thoughts that go through our heads? How do we combat that? Hit Pause! Step back and breath! Self-assess and create that self-awareness! Maybe just stop listening to yourself and start talking to yourself! These are the topics we dive into tonight during the episode. Don’t worry though, we have some laughs and a potential misunderstanding of what it means to be “sitting in the bathroom” during recording

We’re continuing with the Colorado shows and today we welcome a local brewer, Josh Grenz of Verboten Brewing to the hotel round table for a talk about barrel aging beers, brut IPA, and more. Grenz began his craft beer journey several decades ago. Raised in Fort Collins, Colo., he was raised around craft brew stars New Belgium and Odell Brewing Co. After years of beer appreciation, he learned to homebrew and the obsession took firm hold. After homebrewing for several years, he and his wife, Angie, decided they were ready to take the leap to business owners and craft beer cultivators. In 2013, they opened Verboten Brewing in Loveland, Colo., with a focus on creating unusual, innovative beers.**Want to support us? We have launched a PATREON Page.
