The last 12 months of Richard Lovelady's baseball career have been nothing short of eventful, including several stints with the Mets. Earlier today he sat down with Pat McCarthy and spoke about the rollercoaster ride that landed him a spot on the Mets' Opening Day roster and on the mound for some key moments early in the season.

Jerry starts with the sounds of the Knicks losing to the Rockets, Aaron Glenn actually saying Geno will lead them to the ‘promised land' and Jerry Jones on if the NFL is playing too many games: ‘When the ducks quack, feed ‘em'. There was a goalie fight between the Rangers and Devils. Giancarlo Stanton had another 2-hit night as the Yankees beat the Mariners. Lovelady was in the game again as the Mets lost to the Cardinals.

Yanks off to a good start, but Mets fans already have Bichette and Lovelady in the crosshairs.

The Yankees swept the Giants to start the season, and while the Mets won their series, Lovelady and Bichette are already being criticized. Giants manager Tony Vitello discussed differences in coaching. Jerry's update starts with a conversation about men's bathroom habits. We recap the sounds of the NCAA tournament and the Mets' loss, then wrap up with a photo of Boomer being interviewed by OJ Simpson wearing the infamous shoes and gloves.

Welcome to February 1st, 2023 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate the strange towns of the Lone Star State and symbols that slither.  Texas is a big state and leads the way in many things such as livestock production, cotton production and, some would say, friendliness. Another thing Texas is good at is odd place names. Like…Bacon, Bangs, Beans, Bee Cave, Bigfoot, Blackjack, Bluntzer and Bobo, Bootleg, Bugtussle, Cat Spring, Cut and Shoot, Ding Dong and El Gato, Goodnight and Gun Barrel City, Happy, Humble, Hoop and Holler, Hornbeak, Knickerbocker, Latex, Log Cabin, Muleshoe and Lovelady. There's Nada, Noodle, Oatmeal, Raisin, Scissors, Scurry, Smiley and Snook, Spearman, Tarzan, Uncertain and Who'd Thought It! Oh, and let's not forget Zipperland, Hutto, the hippo capital of Texas and the town of Clark which changed its name to Dish, Texas in 2005 so each of its 201 residents could get free Dish TV for 10 years! On National Texas Day, celebrate the small towns that give this big state character. Most of our symbols have specific meanings; a heart for love and compassion, a dove represents peace, and the serpent symbolizes… medicine. Yes, medicine. The Caduceus and the Rod of Asclepius are both symbols of medicine utilizing a staff entwined with serpents. So…why a snake? The answer goes as far back as Moses who reportedly used a bronze snake on a pole to cure people bitten by snakes. Caduceus is the symbol of Mercury in Roman mythology. Apparently Mercury stopped a fight between two serpents by throwing his rod at them at which point they wrapped themselves around the rod and the symbol was born. On National Serpent Day, celebrate this once feared creature and don't be buying any snake oil. This week, legendary award winning Texas cowboy singer-songwriter and poet Pipp Gillette recorded live at Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, Arkansas. Also, interviews with this canorous cow-poke. “Pipp Gillette lives and works on the family ranch near Lovelady, Texas, where his grandfather started raising cattle and cotton in 1912.  Pipp and his late brother Guy received the Western Heritage Award for Outstanding Traditional Western Album of 2011 and the 2013 Western Heritage Award for Outstanding Original Western Composition for their performance of the Waddie Mitchell song "Trade Off.” Drawing on a lifelong interest in Western history and music, Pipp plays traditional cowboy music on guitar, banjo, harmonica and bones.  Pipp's first solo CD, Singing Songs by Waddie and Pipp received the Western Heritage Award for Outstanding Traditional Western Album of 2016. This week, Brooks presents a profile of Oscar Gilbert, the husband of famed folk singer Ollie Gilbert. Also, we'll hear an archival recording of Oscar singing the classic “Ballad of Cole Younger.”
