Bobby shares why there hasn’t been a part two podcast in a while and what we missed while we were gone, including Amy and Eddie’s birthday. Amy shared how she ended up at dinner with a country artist on her birthday. Meanwhile, Eddie has a bad birthday because of his kids. Amy and Eddie talk about the Dustin Lynch concert where he performed with a DJ instead of a band and their experience traveling as a show on a tour bus down to Atlanta. Amy also almost got hit by a car in a parking lot and why Scuba Steve drove his own car instead of riding on the bus. Lunchbox ended up embarrassing himself at the show by taking off his shirt. We also talked about the Bachelorette cancelation drama.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Southwest Seat Assignments, Grief and Travel: Colorado Springs, Costa Rica, and a Points Trip to CancunTyler and Monique return to the Non-Rev Lounge after a delay and discuss recent travel and life updates. They recap a Colorado Springs trip for an Oscars party and Tyler's first experiences with Southwest's new seat assignments, including bulkhead storage frustrations, while also noting Southwest removed a policy allowing non-revs to sit in jump seats. Tyler shares a family emergency: Tawny's mother in California was hospitalized with critically low oxygen, placed in hospice, and died in early March; the family then continued a planned Costa Rica trip to visit Hayden's Spanish study-abroad host family, took an uncomfortable bus to Jacó, and did an unexpectedly strenuous rope-and-waterfall hike with no wildlife sightings. They describe return-travel complications (Dallas weight restriction, reroute through Miami, Global Entry/mobile passport shutdown), Tawny's Broadway trip to see Chicago, Tyler receiving United and Delta non-rev benefits from listeners, and a separate points-based Cancun trip via Oklahoma City with major Hyatt room upgrades and unexpectedly quiet resorts.00:00 Welcome Back Updates01:50 Colorado Oscar Party03:23 Southwest Seat Assignments08:01 Jumpseat Policy Changes10:51 Family Emergency Drive13:41 Racing to Costa Rica19:27 Hayden Study Abroad21:00 Bus Ride to Jaco25:17 Waterfall Hike Surprise32:01 Beach Day and Sunburn33:17 Manuel Antonio Wildlife Hopes35:00 Heading Back to San Jose36:40 Nonrev Chaos and Weight Limits40:58 Miami Customs and Gate Sprint42:00 Would You Go Again48:38 Grief Catching Up50:26 Surprise Delta Benefits57:48 Spring Break Travel Crunch58:40 Cancun Miles and Routing Mistake01:03:20 Flight Rule Confusion01:04:08 Revenue Standby Strategy01:06:10 Oklahoma City Overnight01:07:53 Kids Through Security01:10:47 Two Resorts Plan01:11:13 Globalist Suite Upgrade01:14:35 Dreams Resort Perks01:17:02 Empty Cancun Surprise01:19:08 Points Value Breakdown01:21:50 Name Drop Travel Hacks01:24:33 Busiest Cancun Routes01:26:36 Wrap Up And SponsorCheck out Route Explore from StaffTraveler https://route-explorer.com/StaffTraveler wants our feedback to help build Route Explore before it is officially released. On February 12, 1946, a Black soldier was heading home from WWII when he was brutally beaten by a white police officer in South Carolina. No one knew the identity of the police officer. No one even knew the town where it happened. When the famous radio host Orson Welles heard about the crime, he pledged to solve the mystery, week-by-week, on the air. Today, episode 1 of our new series Orson Welles and the Blind Soldier, about an incident in a small, southern town that led to the desegregation of the U.S. military. --- Thanks to Richard Gergel for his book Unexampled Courage and Indiana University's Lilly Library for archival audio. Freddie Bell and Chantel Sings speak with educator, film producer, and author Derek Francis about Minnesota's often-overlooked school integration story. Francis discusses his new children's book, Our First Bus Ride, which commemorates the 55th anniversary of Minneapolis' Hale–Field elementary school integration and is told through the eyes of two second graders experiencing change for the first time. He explains how the book and his film Separate Not Equal: Minnesota Integration Story make complex history accessible for young readers, families, and educators. The conversation also highlights upcoming community events, conversations with integration alumni, and the ongoing importance of building inclusive, culturally responsive schools today.
Alex is joined by fellow BaT senior luminaries, Howard and Zac, to take a look back at 2025 and ring in the new year. They regale us with some of their favorite or otherwise notable listings from throughout the year, and along the way talk about Howard as a secret Corvette guy; the glory of the Mazdaspeed Protege and its predecessors; the Valentine One (and related bad advice from Howard); and key value differences between the beginning and end of 2025.Also discussed: a rare glimpse into curation regrets; alphanumeric Lambo soup; going from one first world problem to the next (some of which involve virus-related emergency roadside stops); teasers for upcoming BaT events; a mutual yearning to get back out on track; and resurrecting Crashgate 2008.Links for things mentioned in this episode:1:42 Original-Owner 2003 Mazda Mazdaspeed Protegé2:22 Mazda Protegé MP3 Car and Driver First Drive3:02 In Memory of Mike Valentine, a Pioneer of the Radar Detector Industry Car and Driver5:29 Lot #50,000: 2008 Bugatti Veyron 16.45:56 Lot #10,000: 1956 Porsche 356A Carrera GS Coupe7:19 Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Touring search pages7:27 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG model page7:48 2022 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Sold for USD $4,000,0007:54 20-Years-Owned 1953 Chevrolet Corvette Sold for USD $371,0008:34 1986 Porsche 962C Sold for USD $1,249,6208:36 1990 AAR-Toyota Eagle HF89 Sold for USD $1,400,0009:00 1993 Jaguar XJ220-N Sold for USD $691,2349:02 Ex–Car and Driver Twin-Engine 1984 Honda CR-X² Sold for USD $41,4019:06 Ex–Paul Walker 2005 Ford GT Sold for USD $627,0009:21 392 Hemi Stroker-Powered 1930 Ford Model A “Wade Coupe” 4-Speed Sold for USD $98,5009:44 Ex–Cormac McCarthy 1998 Ferrari F355 GTS Sold for USD $108,3559:53 Neon Porcelain Dairy Queen Sign Sold for USD $21,00010:08 Porsche 918 Spyder model page10:10 Singer DLS search page10:13 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS Sold for USD $2,375,00010:23 2010 Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Zagato Sold for USD $600,55610:45 Blu Elettrico 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari Sold for USD $4,475,00010:55 17k-Kilometer 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet 6-Speed11:37 Widebody 2021 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge Neon Nights Edition Sold for USD $310,00011:59 2026 Corvette ZR-1 search page13:20 Sahara Beige 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Sold for USD $106,50013:45 Parts and Automobilia category page13:48 Sega Ferrari F355 Challenge Arcade Game Sold for USD $20,00013:55 F Racer F40-Style Junior Go-Kart Sold for GBP £16,00014:01 L'Autopède Bus Ride & Power Car Go-Kart Sold for USD $21,50014:21 Parts and Automobilia – Racing Simulators model page15:58 1971 Triumph Spitfire Mk IV Project Sold for USD $10016:04 2006 Ferrari F430 Spider Chassis Sold for USD $2,00616:43 1995 BMW M3 AC Schnitzer ACS3 CLS Sold for USD $188,00018:16 1918 Henderson Four Model H Sold for USD $141,00018:21 1920 Ace Four Sold for USD $147,00020:01 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Coupe 6-Speed Sold for USD $235,00020:28 Lamborghini Murcielago Coupe 6-Speed search page21:29 10k-Mile 2006 Subaru Baja Turbo Sold for USD $55,55521:35 Volvo V70R model page23:13 Ford GT Mk II Race Car search page23:30 1964 Bill Thomas Cheetah Cro-Sal Special Roadster Sold for USD $415,00024:12 1983 Toyota Tercel SR5 4WD 6-Speed Sold for USD $7,80024:37 Toyota Tercel model page47:53 Michael Richards' 2004 Mercedes-Benz S500 Sold for USD $24,444Got suggestions for our next guest from the BaT community, One Year Garage episode, or (B)aT the Movies subject? Jesse Todisco was a successful salesman by day and a heroin addict by night. Then came the 30-hour bus ride that changed everything. In this episode of The Modern Man Podcast, I sit down with Jesse Todisco—author of From Heroin to Healer—to discuss the dark reality of high-functioning addiction and the "impossible" journey of recovery. Jesse opens up about breaking the cycle of generational trauma, the truth about quitting cold turkey, and the profound Ayahuasca experience where he reconnected with his deceased daughter. If you feel stuck, numb, or like you are repeating your father’s mistakes, this conversation is the wake-up call you need. We go beyond the surface to discuss why "success" often masks deep pain and how to finally find peace. In this episode, you will learn: The Hidden Cost: How high-performers hide addiction and why rock bottom is necessary. The Impossible Twist: Jesse’s firsthand account of seeing his dead daughter during a plant medicine ceremony. Breaking Trauma: How to stop being "just like your dad" and become the father your children need. Tactical Tools: How to use Breathwork and "Gratitude Stacking" to hack depression immediately. This is an original story of what my morning bus rides tend to be like. I always listen to music on my twenty-minute bus ride to school, so I decided to incorporate around 30ish seconds of different songs to portray my playlist, full of different genres. I also hope it gives the feeling of time passing by. I did use three songs from mainstream artists, so I'll list their credits below. The rest of the music is from universal. This week on Thoughts Off The Stem I'm finally getting the chance to try some Maui wowie! This sesh is a bit of an update. We've been gone for a while so it's catch up time. We were supposed to go to the Kind Summer Fair but the weather had different plans so instead we just had a stoned bus adventure. Surprisingly I still had as much fun. We ended up getting routed home in Brampton. My first time there amd definitely not a pace I plan to go back to. It's all kinds of messed up. As messed up was the Trump assassination attempt. I couldn't believe it. From looking for his shoes to that fist pump, imagine what you would do if that was you. Dude that's some realish right there. Since I'm smoking the Maui Wowies I'm reviewing them. I've been wanting to try this strain since Half Baked came out. So it's been a while and well, you'll just have to hear what I have to say. Summary In this episode, Cris shares his experience running the California International Marathon (CIM) in Sacramento. He discusses his reasons for choosing CIM as his race, the travel and accommodation logistics, and the expo experience. Cris also talks about the transportation to the start line, the warm-up and corral organization, and the water stops on the course. He highlights the congestion at the water stops and offers advice for managing it. Cris also mentions the weather and humidity during the race and the level of crowd support in Sacramento. In this conversation, Cris Gutierrez shares his experience running the California International Marathon (CIM) and his pursuit of an Olympic Trials Qualifier (OTQ). He discusses the race course, the finish line organization, and the post-race party. Cris also reflects on the emotional finish and the camaraderie among runners. He offers advice for marathon runners and shares his future race plans. Takeaways CIM is a popular race for runners aiming for an OTQ (Olympic Trials Qualifier) or BQ (Boston Qualifier). Travel and accommodation options are plentiful in Sacramento, and staying outside the city can provide a more relaxed experience. The expo at CIM offers a variety of vendors and merchandise, and the race organizers provide an opportunity to watch the course and listen to podcasts. Transportation to the start line is well-organized, with buses available from different rally points. The warm-up and corral organization at CIM can be a bit confusing, but the timers and signs help runners find their designated pace groups. Water stops on the course are frequent, but congestion can make it challenging to grab cups. Carrying a handheld water bottle can be helpful. The weather at CIM is generally mild, with temperatures around 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit and low humidity. The crowd support at CIM is enthusiastic, with spectators cheering on the runners throughout the course. The California International Marathon (CIM) offers a scenic and well-supported course, with people cheering throughout the race. The finish line organization at CIM can be improved, with some confusion about the correct finish line and issues with accessing the post-race area. The post-race party at CIM provides an opportunity to celebrate with fellow runners and enjoy refreshments. Cris Gutierrez emphasizes the importance of showing emotion and appreciating the opportunity to pursue running goals. Cris advises marathon runners to stay aware of their body during the race and learn from each experience. Cris plans to participate in future races, including the Boston Marathon and the Mad City 50k. Chaos in Russia! Wagner's pagan neo-Nazis. Is conspirituality unique to a failing American empire in the internet age? Does it require Californian New Age spirituality, with conspiracy theories that weave around alternative medicine, for-profit pharma with no social safety net, and the reactionary politics of White Christian Nationalism? This week, Julian explores a different version of Conspirituality.
