PART 3 of 4: Many Christians wonder how it is possible to be LGBTQ+ affirming in light of what most people assume to be a clear anti-Gay message in the bible. This episode wrestles with ROMANS 1, and the VICE LISTS in 1 Corinthians and 1 TIMOTHY. In this special 4-part series, Kelly examines how affirming Bible scholars view the 6 verses in the Bible that deal with same-sex relationships in the context of their time and place, and ask whether these really are sweeping prohibitions of all same-sex relationships, or are about specific issues in a certain time--including violence, idolatry, and religious difference--that may not apply to modern LGBTQ+ people and relationships. PART 4 of 4: Many Christians wonder how it is possible to be LGBTQ+ affirming in light of what most people assume to be a clear anti-Gay message in the bible. This episode summarizes all the verses we've studied so far, and weighs them against the larger backdrop of the Biblical principles of Love, Grace, and how we are called to treat others. Love doesn't necessarily mean accepting everything others do, and all though under the law of love, everything is permitted, not everything is beneficial--but love also desires more than just compelling others to do good. It desires their THRIVING. Ninoshka got pregnant at the age of sixteen by her abusive boyfriend, while we were in high school. She talks about the judgment she faced as a single teen mom and how she has overcome every obstacle in her life such as coping with her mental health struggles, leaving her abusive relationship, her traumatic birth stories and the toxicity she endured during her time in the military. She did not want to become a victim of her circumstances by letting them define her, so she chose a better path and uses her children as her inspiration to succeed in life. It's Thanksgiving Sunday in 2022 here in Canada and I've got covid, feeling pretty sh**ty and am isolated from family and, y'know, not my usual accommodating open-minded self. Any of my fellow Canadians will be intimately familiar with what's going on with Hockey Canada right now. If you're listening and you don't know, go to the “Hockey Canada sexual assault scandal” Wikipedia page. It's even worse than it sounds. This is a podcast about corporate governance, so let's acknowledge the vile, unforgivable behaviour of the players involved, and the immeasurable harm and trauma they've caused for their victims, but then let's bring it back to the boardroom. And honestly, the only conceivable reaction is “what the f*ck???” Bad enough that your organization is sufficiently aware of the sexual assault perpetrated by your members that you secretly created at least one, and possibly two funds using public and membership money to settle sexual misconduct cases – 21 of them over the past 33 years. Let me read you Hockey Canada's mission statement: “To Lead, Develop and Promote Positive Hockey Experiences.” Seriously, go look at the mission and mandate page on their website filled with words like “fair,” and “respect,” and “hockey opportunities for all people regardless of age, gender, colour, race, ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status.” Not one statement from the board or management has acknowledged that THEY, as leaders of this organization, deliberately created an environment that enables, covers up, and perpetuates sexual violence. If you don't agree… Well, take 2 minutes to write down other paths Hockey Canada could have taken than setting aside stakeholder money to pay to conceal these crimes. See what you just did in 2 minutes. Hockey Canada failed to do that in 33 years. They can f*ck right off.

TW//Sexual Assault and Rape Hi Sinners. Please do not listen to this episode if the trigger warnings are sensitive for you, or use your best judgment while listening. November of 2018 I was sexually assaulted by a Sigma Nu brother. I am choosing to share this story now due to a recent contest conducted by instagram account App State Chicks. They hosted a march madness equivalent for fraternities called "Frat Madness." Sigma Nu was the winner. I'm sick and tired of seeing fraternities glorified and continuing to get away with their behavior. They need to be held accountable and victims and survivors need to be protected. Greek life is a toxic breeding ground for all kinds of heinous activities and I'm tired of pretending like everything's fine. Things need to stop being swept under the rug and frats need to face consequences and be held responsible. I'm sick of seeing survivors have to live with their trauma and be silenced while their assaulters get away with it. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/21stsintury/support
Aileen Wuornos was born into a bad life, had a bad childhood, and grew to be a bad adult. The odds were stacked against her, and after living a life of abuse, torture, and petty crime, she kicked it up a level and added murder to her list. While she was born in Michigan, her killing spree of 7 men took place in Florida between November 1989 and November 1990. She was arrested thanks to the testimony of her girlfriend, Tyria Moore, and some interesting evidence she left behind. While she had a horrible past, none of that excused the murders that took place. On this episode of Books and Bevvies, we review, "The Way I Used to Be," by Amber Smith. There are very heavy themes in this book but we tried to keep the episode as light as possible. Tangents about checklists, the Jonas Brothers, and Pretty Little Liars keep the episode from being too serious. We both think it is a Valuable book to read because it brings awareness to a lot of important topics. TW: Sexual Assault, mentions of alcohol and substance abuse. Hosted on Acast. TW: Sexual Assault & R*pe Our guest today has an incredible and remarkable story. From home school to college, from psychology and business degrees to marketing and office management, from drug and alcohol addictions to sobriety and work as a high end escort, and now as a therapist, relationship coach and certified sexologist, her life experience has taught her one thing above all…there is no need for a life filled with shame. This amazing guest has a knack for making people feel safe to explore their shame without feeling judged. Her personal experience in moving past THAT crippling emotion, and realizing her full potential as a joyful being, is a powerful gift that she is able to share with her clients so that they, too, can live happy and shame-free lives. This week's episode will make you die. But only a little death - as this week O is for Orgasm! The big O is more complex than anyone ever realised. Oh! On this episode, I am joined by my producer, close friend, and fellow baddie Davita Jo. She hosts her own podcast, "The Quarter Life Happy Hour," and loves to overshare on the internet just like me. Unfortunately, Davita is ~going through it right now~ and she shares her most recent heartbreak with us. We discuss right person vs. the person "right now": how sometimes we date people because they're right in front of us rather than they meet all of the standards of a partner. AND OF COURSE we talk about hot girl summer. We also discuss mental health, detaching from the ~drama~, self love, and anxiety. It's chaotic episode but would you expect anything else from two girls with podcasts? TW: Sexual Assault, Gendered violence, and Homophobic Violence - 11 min to 14 min
