For the Glory KC
Will Messi Play and Where do Sporting KC Need to Add Players?

For the Glory KC is back with the 119th episode of the show! This weeks' episode ventured into the "a little bit more in depth" as we break down Sporting Kansas City's media day and how all the information we learned impacts the roster. The team has said they are still looking to make a big signing. My KC Soccer Journal colleague, Josh Wallace helps breakdown the roster and we both weigh in where we think the team needs to add players. From there, we basically work through a potential starting lineup as we talk through most of the players on the team and where they fit best. Including why Jake Davis should be in the midfield, and not at right back. Despite that, right back is where we suspect we'll see him Tuesday against Inter Miami.Mike Burns gave tons of info on Friday, and we break down the international roster spots on the team. Those spots may impact Jan Jurcec earning a contract and have a domino effect on the aforementioned Davis. We make projections about future player sales (based on a rumored offer Burns told the Shades of Blue Soccer Show). Josh and I also talk staffing and get an injury update on Logan Ndenbe. Not to be left out, the discussion turns to Jansen Miller's signing and his impact to the team, Sebastian Cruz not signing and what we could take away from the 0-0 draw against the Las Vegas Lights in the final preseason tune-up. Plus, thoughts on the new kit!If you sat out the offseason and need a quick catch-up, we go through all the incoming and outgoing moves and how that'll impact Sporting KC. We look specifically at the defense, which is mostly unchanged. The late arrival of Joaquin Fernandez and the return of Logan Ndenbe could be look at as "additions."Then the big question comes up. Is Messi going to play against Sporting KC on Tuesday? And will there be a game at all in that brutal cold (there will be!). We also talk realistic expectations for the season and what will be different to watch for tactically from SKC.Finally, the KC Current had another quiet week but had one piece of big news. Claire Hutton and Michelle Cooper earned call-ups to the USWNT for the SheBelieves Cup!In the Digital Crawl, we touch on a few more topics, including: Marinos Tzionis already finds another new home USL announced a new first division league CPKC Stadium get its first international friendly Kansas City's USL2 teams, Sunflower State and SantaFe Wanderers are in the same divisionHere is a rundown of topics (and approximate start times): SKC's roster, Media Day quotes and team needs - 1:42 Sporting KC story round-up - 41:01 Sporting Kansas City Season Preview - 1:08:43 Will the game against Miami go forward on Tuesday? - 1:25:07 Hutton and Cooper get the call - 1:46:14 Digital Crawl - 1:49:13As a special gift to For the Glory KC listeners and KC Soccer Journal readers, Backheeled dot com is giving away 30 days of their amazing, independent American soccer coverage for free.    What a day of headline stories between wildfires, Zuck doing a 180 and of course, Donald Trump holding a news conference for the ages.  Trump has taken his game to a new level pivoting out of campaign mode to spread his vision for America across the globe.  He's not even president and the whole world is on the edge of their seats.    Shockingly, some democrats are supporting some things Trump is proposing.  If that's the case, America is about to improve with hyper sonic speed.    In Kansas, a state politician named Kenny Titus wants to keep the Sunflower State in standard time even as Trump and Congress move to have the whole country move to Daylight time permanently.  Titus is confused and has introduced a bill that must be stopped.  Call him at 785.296.7656 and tell him to back off!    K-State basketball is a hot mess and the finances of it are even worse as AD Gene Taylor has totally botched this thing by signing coach Jerome Tang to one new contract after another.  Now, the school that was always responsible has a failing coach that duped them last year and they can't afford to fire him.  What a crap show.    Mizzou rolls LSU as Dennis Gates is showing that last year was the anomaly.  Missouri sports betting is delayed, we'll tell you how long and Tiger Wood's new golf league, TGL, debuts on ESPN.

Visitors report dark rituals, glowing red eyes, and terrifying paranormal experiences near the crumbling stone church that once stood there. Kansas lawmakers are trying to lure the Kansas City Chiefs and perhaps the Royals to the Sunflower State. Missouri Governor Mike Parson (R) leaves office in January and has made it clear that one of his priorities is keeping the Chiefs and Royals in Missouri. His administration is currently working to put a deal together to make sure the Show-Me State is competitive with Kansas. The governor says Missouri will be competitive, telling reporters in Columbia in mid-June that "we're not just going to roll over and let Kansas come in here and take two major franchises (Chiefs and Royals) out of our state without having some sort of package ourselves." Sports economist Tom Kruckmeyer of Jefferson City joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" and blasts any possible tax incentives for the Chiefs or Royals, particularly the Chiefs. Mr. Kruckmeyer tells listeners that public subsidies for sports team facilities do not pay for themselves, describing them as a net drain on the treasuries of taxing jurisdictions. Mr. Kruckmeyer tells listeners that Governor Parson will likely propose the use of public funds. Kruckmeyer describes the Kansas City Chiefs as "fantastically profitable," saying last year's Chiefs profit was $95-million, citing Forbes magazine. Kruckmeyer tells listeners he's been studying this issue since then-St. Louis Cardinals football owner Bill Bidwill moved the Big Red to Arizona in 1988.:

Yes, the Royals are fun this year and much better.  It's also true that they are not ready to be among baseball's elite teams as we saw in game one against Cleveland when the Royals just gagged away their best shot to make a statement.    Kansas Republicans send a perfect letter to Chiefs owner Clark Hunt with an offer he can't refuse for a new stadium.  IF the bond issue passes during a special session June 18, it will be full speed ahead for the Chiefs to relocate to the Sunflower State with the best offer any NFL owner ever received.    Former Chiefs QB Matt Cassel has a sweet new gig at NBC.    Joe Biden's state of mind is fading fast and now media outlets on the left are all over him.  It feels like the beginning of the end as Joe Biden has taken a day off.... in France.    A listener sent me a fantastic email about bullet holes in KC after shots ring out near his business in the west bottoms. You have to hear this.    Texas is getting its own stock exchange to compete with and possibly obliterate, the NYSE and NASDAQ.     The Beagle killing researchers are given a record fine by the DOJ that should put them out of business and a magnet fisherman makes a big catch.  Yes, magnet fishing.

Welcome to March 15th, 2023 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate the Sunflower State and being wrong. It's National Kansas Day today and we're celebrating with fun facts about the 34th state. Kansas was admitted to the union in 1861 but the region became part of the US in 1803 with the finalizing of the Louisiana Purchase. Kansas is the home of White Castle, its state bug is the honeybee and Kansas even has an official state reptile, the ornate box turtle! It's the home of the first airplane factory, mules cannot be used for duck hunting and the helicopter was invented in Kansas. On top of that, the nation's 34th president, Dwight Eisenhower hails from the 34th state. On National Kansas Day, celebrate The Sunflower State, just don't sing the alphabet on the streets of Topeka at night! No one is right 100 percent of the time, Anna. Today, we pause to consider just how much we don't know. It's a burden in life to be a know-it-all. So just for today, consider learning something new from the perspective of a novice. Did you know there is a geocache on the International Space Station? It's been visited four times by other astronauts. Or that a strawberry is not actually a berry but a banana is? Did you know that Cookie Monster's real name is Sid? On Everything You Think Is Wrong Day, give your noggin the day off. On this week's hemp podcast, we talk to Sarah Stephens, CEO of Midwest Hemp Technology, a hemp processing company in Augusta, Kansas, that contracts local farmers to grow hemp grain and fiber to produce hemp seed food and oil, as well as long-strand fiber. Stephens' journey into hemp started with CBD, but she realized that the potential for long-term growth was on the fiber and grain side, especially in Kansas with it's ample farmland and existing agriculture infrastructure. “I grew for CBD the first two seasons, like 95% of all licenses in Kansas were designated for,” she said. “And I was going to some of these events and farmers were talking about walking their fields and pulling out males and drip tape. And it just did not equate to what I see as traditional production farming.” While overall fiber and grain acreage in the Sunflower State is still relatively low, there is increasing interest among farmers. Midwest Hemp Technology is one of several hemp processors in Kansas, including South Bend Industrial Hemp and Prairie Band Ag. Stephens said the Kansas Department of Agriculture is supportive of the hemp program and she gets the sense that the state wants it to succeed, but the department's hands are sometimes tied when it comes to regulations. “But I see them advocating for rural changes and easing of restrictions and more commonsense approaches,” she said.
