Silicon Valley Bank collapsed suddenly and now investors are worried if it will cause a broader banking meltdown. However, the US government has stepped in to guarantee customer deposits. This event has created ripple effects across the global financial market. A regional bank called Signature Bank also got closed down, and its deposits were guaranteed by the US federal government. US President Joe Biden addressed the nation, assuring that our banking system is safe, and they will do whatever necessary to ensure the same. Silicon Valley Bank was the 16th largest commercial bank in America, providing banking services to nearly half of all US venture-backed technology and life science companies. The bank's assets and deposits tripled in recent years, with a global headcount more than doubling. Silicon Valley Bank failed due to several years of investment in US government bonds during the era of near-zero interest rates. The Fed's hiking spree sent borrowing costs higher, forcing companies to draw down on deposits held by Silicon Valley Bank. The bank's problems were triggered on Wednesday when it announced that it had sold securities at a loss and would sell new shares to plug the hole in its finances. This caused panic among customers who withdrew their money in large numbers, triggering a bank run. US regulators have guaranteed all Silicon Valley Bank customers' deposits to prevent more bank runs and to help tech companies continue to pay staff and fund their operations. This intervention does not amount to a bailout, so investors in the company's stock and bonds will not be protected. There are already some signs of stress at other banks, but analysts believe that US and European banks have much stronger financial buffers now than during the global financial crisis.

Nelson and his wife, JoRay, have been married for 9 years and between them are the proud parents of three children; Samantha (30) who has cognitive delays, Eric (26) who has Autism, severe Epilepsy and who is bi-polar, and Kaleb (26) who has Asperger's and was more recently diagnosed as bi-polar too. Nelson reflects on his parents divorce, growing up without his dad, moving with his mom and siblings from California to Alaska, Idaho, Washington and Oregon, where at his age 13, his mom took her own life. About Michael Valdes:  Michael Valdes is the President of eXp Global. He is currently the only Latino President of a publicly traded real estate company in the country (Nasdaq: EXPI). In his first year of joining, he has led a team that has opened 12 countries in 12 months without ever getting on a plane which is a feat that has never been done in the industry. Michael was also a Board Member of Pink & Blue for 2, an organization started by Olivia Newton-John to promote breast and prostate cancer awareness. The doctors told his parents that he probably wouldn't walk, talk, or eat on his own again. Less than 3 months later, he was running out of Franciscan Children's hospital. Now Nick speaks to groups that benefit from his message of overcoming adversity. Nick grew up in the real estate industry and got started at an early age. Most notably, he was knocking on Pre-Foreclosure doors at 16, doing up to 50 doors a day. This experience helped shape Nick's real estate career. This week Corey and Dan of The Costa Rican Times speak on: The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) would like to have a single global standard by which countries share tax information. The Russia’s ambassador in Managua verified that Russia would like to construct a military resupply base in Nicaragua. The Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) announced that the UN allocated $3.7 million to the conservation and sustainability of 11 protected wetlands in Costa Rica. Drug traffickers transported 2,500 kgs (about 5,500 lbs) of cocaine inside a container of pineapples, from Costa Rica to Algeciras in the southern region of Spain. Interview: Rebecca Clower of Blue Water Properties of Costa Rica Since 2003, I have worked as a Licensed Realtor in Tampa, Florida and currently live in Costa Rica and own a Real Estate & Property Management company called Blue Water Properties of Costa Rica with our main office located near Playa Conchal in Guanacaste. Our tour agency, Blue Water Adventures, is based out of our Tamarindo office. We have 4 offices in total in Conchal, Playa Tamarindo, Playa Grande and Playa Negra to better serve our clients. Our company has a full-service Vacation rental division for long and short-term luxury rentals at the beach. We currently employ 5 real estate agents, and 10 full time office support staff and like to think of our company as truly different. Catering to our clients every need in our #1 priority. Without an MLS in Costa Rica to search for properties, it’s important to work with licensed Professionals who will not only show you their inventory, but that of the competition. We are a unique company in that the broker is a Licensed Realtor in the USA (Florida ). We are also members of NAR (National Association of Realtors) and CRGAR (Costa Rica Global Association of Realtors). NABWIC Talks with JocCole “J.C.” Burton realized she had an aptitude for engineering when, at nine-year old she took apart, then reassembled the family tv set. J.C.'s parents nurtured her analytical skills, developing her into a first-rate problem solver creating family game night, called “the calculus challenge”. A California native, J.C. has a degree in Chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley, post grad of Georgia State Univ. and is a Licensed Realtor. She merged her talents under her leadership of Woodline Solutions, a Construction Consulting Firm. The focus of the firm is threefold: Construction Consulting, Energy + Water Consulting (also known as Sustainability Consulting), and Facility Management. Woodline provides services from Texas to Virginia.  She has been recognized my many organizations as a global leader in sustainability and has been recognized by the White House as a “Champion of Change – Clean Energy”.  She has spoken at the White House on green technologies and environmental issues in the construction industry.  Among other industry awards, she has received most notably are: Associated Builders' & Contractors Eagle Award; Enterprising Woman of the Year, 2012; Atlanta Tribune Woman to Watch 2011. She has chaired several industry advisory boards including Urban Land Institute, US Green Building Council, United Negro College Fund Advancement for Sustainability to name a few. Her community involvement includes Board of Director's participation of women's rights organizations and children's organization. She is the chair of NABWIC's Corporate Diversity Committee.  J.C. is a frequent speaker/educator on the subject of sustainability and is launching Pure Green Education in the fall of 2012.
