We had to come inside early because he's hungry again." Elim grinned at his two-year-old brother. "Snack?" Ransom squeaked.Mom handed the boys bowls of apple slices. "The bath is ready! I'll wash Ranny first."After snacks and baths, Mom hauled a bag to the living room. "What's in there?" Cyrus asked. "Open it and see." Mom winked. "Robes!" Elim yelled. The boys wiggled into their cozy robes, then handed Mom hers and Ransom's. "I love robe season," said Elim. "I was just reading about robes during Bible time!" Cyrus pulled his Bible off the couch and opened it to the bookmarked page. "It's from Isaiah 61, verse 10: 'I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness.'" "What does righteousness mean again?" Elim asked. "It means being right with God and free from guilt in His eyes," Mom answered. "Remember what people had to do in the Old Testament to be righteous before God?" "Make sacrifices," Elim responded solemnly. "But it wasn't good enough! All the good things we do are like filthy rags compared to God's goodness." Cyrus picked up his soaked-through dirty sock with a wrinkled nose. "Then God sent Jesus to die for us! He sacrificed His own Son to save us. So, that verse in Isaiah I read was talking about God's promise to be fulfilled in Jesus," Cyrus mused. "Exactly." Mom nodded. "Since Jesus is perfect, He became the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. When we put our trust in Him, He takes our sins away and covers us with His robe of righteousness. What do we become in Jesus?" "A new creation." Elim flapped his robe sleeves. "Ranny needs his robe, Mom!" Mom laughed as Ransom started running around the living room in circles. The Bible says that all the things we do to try to make ourselves good in God's eyes are like filthy rags. The only way we can become righteous is through Jesus. When we trust in Him, God no longer sees our sins when He looks at us, but the perfect sacrifice of His Son. Oklahoma's state superintendent has decreed that public curricula must include material from the Christian bible, a move he says is inspired by Trump. Louisiana's Governor, daring his constituents to sue him, has signed a bill mandating the 10 Commandments, using a Protestant translation, must be displayed in every public classroom. And Texas is incentivizing public schools to teach a Christian bible curriculum. One solution we offer if you're an educated educator in these states: put up a copy of values you believe in alongside these mandates, perhaps the universal rights of children. Gdy królem Izraela był Achab, mąż Jezebel to królem Judy był Jehoszafat. Co ciekawe Biblia wypowiada się o tym królu, o Jehoszafacie, bardzo pozytywnie. Jedyne co prorocy Boży mieli mu do zarzucenia były właśnie kontakty z Achabem. Z jednej strony Jehoszafat prowadził kampanię wypleniania bałwochwalstwa z południowej Judy, ale z drugiej strony miał przyjazne stosunki z północnym Izraelem, gdzie Jezebel wprowadzała bałwochwalstwo. 2 Księga Kronik 18:1 mówi: “Gdy Jehoszafat doszedł do wielkiego bogactwa i znaczenia, spowinowacił się z Achabem”.Tak więc Jehoszafat, który oczyszczał Judę z bałwochwalstwa doprowadził do tego, że jego syn ożenił się z córką Achaba i Jezebel. Sprawił, że Jehoram ożenił się z Atalią. Nie wiem czego się spodziewał, ale po jego śmierci jego syn zaczął dopuszczać się strasznych rzeczy i nie chodzi tylko o bałwochwalstwo.W 2 Księdze Kronik 21:4 czytamy: “Gdy Jehoram objął władzę królewską po swoim ojcu i umocnił się w niej, kazał pozabijać swoich braci mieczem”. Patrząc na późniejsze wydarzenia myślę, że można powiedzieć, że namówiła go do tego jego żona Atalia. Potwierdza to Biblia w kolejnym 6 wersecie: “Kroczył jednakże drogą królów izraelskich, podobnie jak postępował ród Achaba, gdyż córka Achaba była jego żoną”. Biblia w wielu miejscach przestrzega przed małżeństwem z kimś z innej religii. Przykładami jak żona może wpłynąć na męża są małżeństwa Salomona, małżeństwo Achaba z Jezebel i właśnie małżeństwo Jehorama z Atalią.Na obronę Jehoszafata można przyjąć, że Atalia ukrywała swoje cele. Jehoram jej mąż został królem jeszcze za życia swojego ojca Jehoszafata, ale pozabijał swoich braci dopiero po śmierci ojca. Tak więc Jehoszafat być może wcale nie zdawał sobie sprawy kogo sprowadził do Judy pozwalając na małżeństwo Jehorama z Atalią.Atalia przeżyła swojego męża. W 2 Kronik 22:2 czytamy: “Achazjasz miał czterdzieści dwa lata, gdy objął władzę królewską, a panował jeden rok w Jeruzalemie. Matka jego miała na imię Atalia, a była córką Omriego”. Atalia została tutaj opisana jako córka Omriego, była jednak córką Achaba i Jezebel, a wnuczką Omriego. W tamtych czasach słowo syn czy córka oznaczało czasami wnuk czy wnuczka albo wręcz potomek. Zauważmy, że Achazjasz rządził tylko jeden rok. Jeśli słuchaliście poprzedniego odcinka o Jezebel, to być może pamiętacie, że Achazjasz wraz z Jehoramem wyjechali na przeciw Jehu.Tak więc królem Judy, południowego królestwa był dobry król Jehoszafat. Po nim panował Jehoram mąż Atali. Tutaj uwaga. Królem Izraela też był Jehoram, syn Jezebel i Achaba. Tak więc Jehoram Izraelski miał szwagra Jehorama, który ożenił się z jego siostrą Atalią. My skupiamy się na Atali, która była żoną Jehorama, króla południowego królestwa Judy. Ale warto pamiętać, że jej brat też był królem, ale panował w północnym królestwie Izraela. Królami południowego królestwa Judy byli dobry Jehoszafat, zły Jehoram mąż Atali, a po nim na jeden rok królem został Achazjasz syn Jehorama i Atali. I tutaj znowu uwaga był król Izraela, który też miał na imię Achazjasz. Różnica jest taka, że na północy panowali najpierw Achazjasz, a potem jego brat Jehoram, a w Judzie panował Jehoram mąż Atali, a po nim Achazjasz, jego i Atali syn.Wracając do tego co było w poprzednim odcinku. Jehoram, król Izraela był chory, Achazjasz jego siostrzeniec król Judy przyjechał go odwiedzić. Właśnie wtedy Jehu zrobił zamach stanu. Obaj królowie wyjechali mu, czyli Jehu, na przeciw. Jehu zabił Jehorama, króla Izraela i pojechał do Jizreel zabić Jezebel. Achazjasz, syn Atali uciekł jednak do Samarii. Został pojmany i na rozkaz Jehu próbowano go zabić. Ranny uciekł do Megiddo i tam zmarł. Jak wyglądała sytuacja w Judzie?Król Judy Jehoram miał wielu synów, ale zginęli wszyscy oprócz jego syna Achazjasza. Teraz zginął także on, ale miał on wielu synów. Jednak w 2 Kronik 22:11 czytamy: “gdy Atalia, matka Achazjasza, dowiedziała się, że jej syn nie żyje, postanowiła wytracić całą rodzinę królewską domu Judy”. Krótko mówiąc Atalia, zabiła synów Achazjasza, czyli kazała pozabijać swoje wnuki. Tego nie jestem w stanie zrozumieć. Nawet większość złych ludzi popełnia złe czyny wobec obcych ludzi, a dba o swoich, w tym o swoją rodzinę. Nie pochwalam tego, ale tutaj mamy do czynienia z kimś, kto zabija własne wnuki aby dojść do władzy. Na szczęście Jehoszeba ukryła najmłodszego syna, króla Achazjasza. W 2 Kronik 22:11 Jehoszeba (nazwana Jehoszabat) jest określona jako “córka króla”. Oznacza to chyba, że była córką króla Jehorama, ale prawdopodobnie nie była córką Atali. W każdym bądź razie ukryła swojego bratanka Joasza. Jehoszeba była żoną kapłana Jehojady. Razem ukryli Joasza w świątyni. Matka Atali Jezebel pozbyła się wyznawców Jahwe. W Izraelu otwarcie czczono tylko Baala i Asztarte. Jednak jej córka tego nie zrobiła. Z jakiego powodu oszczędziła świątynię Jahwe możemy się tylko domyślać. Prawdopodobnie nie z powodu miłosierdzia, bo jej synowie obrabowali świątynię Jahwe i ten łup zanieśli do świątyni Baala. Jakby jednak nie było to doprowadziło do jej zagłady.Atalia panowała 6 lat. Gdy Joasz skończył 7 lat, kapłan Jehojada przeprowadził zamach stanu. Zgromadził wszystkie oddziały Lewitów. Rozdał im broń, a w świątyni ogłosił Joasza królem. Atalia usłyszała, że coś się tam dzieje i zaczęła krzyczeć: "Spisek!" Kapłan Jehojada kazał ją wyprowadzić poza świątynię i tam zabić.Tak skończyła się historia Atali. W mojej prywatnej ocenie była ona gorsza nawet od swojej matki Jezebel. Ja oczywiście nie pochwalam, tego co robiła Jezebel, ale jestem w stanie zrozumieć jej fanatyzm religijny. Jezebel była przecież córką kapłana. Nie jestem jednak w stanie zrozumieć postępowania Atali, kobiety która wymordowała własne wnuki.
