Before she became known as “The She-Wolf of France,” Isabella was a princess sent to unite two warring kingdoms through marriage. But her husband, King Edward II of England, didn't get the same memo. From day one, it's clear he's more interested in the cute men at court than his queen – or his crown. As Edward's reckless choices endanger the English throne and strain relations with France, Isabella will have to decide if she'll remain a loyal queen – or take matters into her own hands.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! Written by Reed LochamyPlayed by Will Lochamy, Matt Vizcaino, and Kelly AutryFor most rounds, there are three questions, and you rank your answers, assigning point values of 5, 3, and 1 each round, depending on your level of confidence. The one you feel best about is your 5-point answer, the one you're just guessing on is your 1-point answer. (For any rounds where the points don't work this way, we'll discuss that during the game.)If you feel certain that you know the answer to all three questions in a typical round, then instead of assigning points of 5, 3 and 1, you can go for 11 points. If you do that and you answer all three questions correctly, you get 11 points (instead of 9). However, if you do that and you miss just one question, you get a 0 for the round. The bonus round question has five possible answers. You get 3 points for every correct answer you submit. Like with going for 11 in typical rounds, though, you can choose to go for 20 in the bonus round (but doing so is risky in the same way that going for 11 in typical rounds is).Have questions about the game or how it works? Please feel free to email those to will@bhammountainradio.com

In this episode of The Edge of Risk by IRMI, we explore one of the most complex and consequential aspects of captive insurance: tax qualification and compliance. Host Joel Appelbaum is joined by Allan Autry, CPA, and partner at Johnson Lambert, who brings deep experience advising hundreds of captive insurance companies across the country. Mr. Autry breaks down the essential criteria for qualifying as insurance for federal tax purposes, clarifying how those differ from regulatory requirements. The discussion covers key tax considerations in captive formation, the impact of entity type, and scenarios where tax qualification may not even be necessary. Mr. Autry also flags common pitfalls—from failing the risk distribution test to overlooking self-procurement tax—and shares thoughts on evolving tax strategies as captive insurance companies take on climate, cyber, and supply chain exposures. Whether you're involved in captive formation, management, or as an adviser, this episode offers actionable guidance on compliance, structure, and strategic planning.

This week's episode features not one but two conversations—with Aron and Strauss—which, while it may sound like a jazz-age songwriting duo, is in fact a pairing of two distinguished historians: Stephen Aron and Barry Strauss. They join our ongoing series of interviews exploring historians' early love of the past and the essential role of intellectual humility in historical thinking. First up is Stephen Aron, Professor Emeritus of History at UCLA and President and CEO of the Autry Museum of the American West in Los Angeles. The Autry is one of the nation's foremost museums dedicated to the art, history, and cultures of the American West. It weaves together scholarship, public exhibitions, and community engagement to tell stories that cross boundaries—geographic, temporal, and cultural. Aron is a pioneering historian of frontiers, borderlands, and Western American history. In Episode 289, we spoke about all three—while also discussing his long effort to bridge the gap between academic and public history. As both a professor and a museum leader, Aron has spent decades bringing historical thinking into the public square. My second guest this week is Barry Strauss, the Bryce and Edith M. Bowmar Professor in Humanistic Studies at Cornell University. A scholar of ancient Greece and Rome, Strauss is well known for combining academic rigor with public engagement, writing widely read books on classical antiquity, military history, and leadership. Strauss is no stranger to Historically Thinking—he's appeared on the podcast several times before, in Episodes 11, 45, and 256, where we've discussed the death of Caesar, the intellectual achievement of Thucydides, and the war that made the Roman Empire. He is also a recipient of the 2024 Bradley Prize, awarded by the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to American intellectual and civic life. The prize honors leaders whose work—whether in education, history, law, or public policy—strengthens the foundations of a free society.

Brent Axe and Chris Carlson discuss the news that Adrian Autry will return for a third season as Syracuse basketball head coach on a live Thursday edition of Syracuse Sports.  While not a surprise that Autry is back for a third year, Brent and Chris discussed the immense pressure that will be on him to prove he's the guy for Syracuse basketball. The Orange will have to make a serious impact in the transfer portal and get the most of out freshman Kiyan Anthony and Sadiq White.  Does Syracuse have the resources in place to make Autry a better coach in a college sports environment where most Power 4 schools are spending more money, adding staff and finding third-party NIL sources?  In order to make the NCAA Tournament, SU will have to win 10-12 more games, improve markedly on defense and Autry will have to turn around a narrative that SU can't close the deal on tight games.  Brent and Chris also got plenty of feedback from Syracuse Sports Insiders on the decision to press forward with Autry in charge.  Become a Syracuse Sports Insider today! Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 91-84 loss to Miami on Tuesday night. Brent discusses how It was the rock bottom loss for Syracuse under head coach Adrian Autry. Sure, SU has been blown out by 29-points to Duke and has several double-digit losses this season, but losing to a 5-18 team with one ACC win this season entering Tuesday night's game? That's about as low as it gets.  Axe discusses how Syracuse AD John Wildhack will struggle to convince the Orange fanbase that Autry is the right guy going forward for SU basketball with the bad losses piling up.  Syracuse's big issue against the Hurricanes was defense, or lack thereof, a consistent problem for the Orange all season that has not improved but was at its worst against Miami.  Brent also got amazing feedback from Syracuse Sports Insiders! The striking piece is part of an exhibition currently on view at the Autry Museum of the American West entitled Future Imaginaries: Art, Fashion, Technology. The Autry's Amy Scott  joins this episode of the Why AxS to weigh in on the complex ideas animating an exhibition featuring over 50 works exploring representing a diverse array of Native cultures.  Part of Getty's PST ART: Art & Science Collide (as is this podcast), the exhibition also opens audiences to the significance of non-Western knowledge, especially when it comes to climate change. This is where our third guest, Dr. Daniel Wildcat, comes in. The professor and highly accomplished scholar works to incorporate Indigenous knowledge and culture into federal policy.  Join us for a lesson left out of the history books, as we imagine a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 69-64 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon. The Orange failed to hit a 3-pointer in a game (0-9) for the first time since 2014 in South Bend which was a big factor in the loss along with SU's 16-of-24 mark at the #FreeThrowsMatter line. Brent also discusses how SU head coach Adrian Autry is changing SU's lineup around like they were hockey lines and that is leading to a growing frustration with the SU fan base. Donnie Freeman (20 points 11 rebounds) and Jyare Davis (20 points) played well as did SU point guard Jaquan Carlos (8 points, 7 assists) to overcome some recent struggles. Syracuse Sports Insiders had plenty to say during the game and after about having a hard time connecting to what SU is trying to do under Autry and the lack of identity on offense and defense. Syracuse basketball blown out by Tennessee and failing to meet Adrian Autry's #Orangestandard

There was one positive from SU's lackluster showing in Knoxville during a 96-70 loss to Tennessee and that was Elijah Moore scoring 24 points and continuing to develop as an exciting freshman on the roster.  Oh wait. There was one more thing. Chance Westry played for three minutes! He's a real guy!  As Brent discussed on the show, it was yet another embarrassing showing for SU in a prime national television spot. SU is 6-15 on ESPN or a broadcast network in the last seasons.  What is the #orangestandard that Autry professes to? Even he was saying in postgame that SU didn't play hard enough on defense and "fell apart." Brent focused a good part of postgame on the reaction Syracuse Sports Insiders had during the game and after about having a hard time connecting to what SU is trying to do under Autry and the lack of identity on offense and defense.  Become a Syracuse Sports Insider today! Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 82-72 win over Cornell at the JMA Dome on Wednesday night on Syracuse basketball postgame presented by Crouse Health.  Freshman Donnie Freeman (23 points+12 rebounds) and Elijah Moore (19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 3's) stepped up big for SU against the Big Red with SU's veterans struggling.  Brent also plays a clip from Syracuse coach Adrian Autry who was clearly irritated with his team's defensive effort and discusses how Eddie Lampkin's back issues will continue to be something to monitor on how Autry fills out his lineup. Lampkin did not start against Cornell in an effort to ease those back troubles.  Brent also reacted to opinions and questions from Syracuse Sports Insiders! Become a Syracuse Sports Insider today! I speak with a rising star in the comedy world, the hilarious and genuine Amber Autry. The before we taped I was in the audience at a sold-out set for Amber's Summer/Fall residency at Zanie's in Nashville. Her bits were so seamlessly interwoven with her improvised crowd work that the stitches were invisible — I couldn't tell where the rehearsed part ended and the improv began. Randa and I laughed our asses off and I left with a feeling that I had just seen someone special. On this wide-ranging conversation with our first comedian on the podcast, Amber and I get into her origin story, which, perhaps unsurprisingly, begins in Chicago. She went through the Second City conservatory in improv and acting, but it was a chance encounter with a street musician that threw her into standup. Suddenly found herself at an open mic. Her very first try went well, likely because, as Amber puts it, “I was the only funny person in a lineup of sadboy singer-songwriters.” Comparisons between comedy and music aren't always obvious, but as someone who has played a thousand shows, I have strong opinions about how to put one on. We talk about the similarities and differences between a comedian's set and the between-song banter of the performing songwriter. In my playbook, every moment onstage counts, and in someways the time between songs is even more important than the songs themselves, because it's in those moments that you really connect with an audience, or don't. I ask how she got so good at crowd work. Unsurprisingly the answer is, practice. Or as Amber puts it, “a willingness to embarrass yourself over and over as you get more comfortable with just having real conversation with audience members and trusting the funny will come.”The Morse Code is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. She talks about the value of watching bad comedy, how it can be as instructive as its excellent counterpart. I relate to this in terms of movies and books: how when you watch something that's boring or sad ordull or off the mark in some way, it gives you an opportunity to reflect on why that is. There's a connection here to that old saying, “everyone is a teacher.”Somewhere toward the end we figure out we were both raised in the church, and talk about the good and bad of that experience. From there its a short leap to the subject of therapy, and here Amber shares her surprisingly beautiful strategy for maintaining sanity in an extremely difficult industry. It has something to do with treating yourself like a someone whose well-being you're in charge of… but you should listen to Amber share the unique, practical application of that slippery approach. By way of comparison I share a little of my own background and spiritual journey. There was a long stretch of my life where I was sitting with a buddhist lineage, an experience which culminated with an extended session at a silent retreat at a Vippasana Center in rural Washington. I tell a little about that experience, the hilarity of it and the breakthrough that happened, the gift that resulted, which has helped me ever since. This conversation is a good representation of why I do this podcast. Amber is a bright light in the world. Getting to talk with her had the effect of cracking open my own heart, seeing what was inside — the soft the squishy the scared, and somewhere down in there, the funny. Go see Amber, she's touring constantly!Find Amber Autry: Website https://www.amberautrycomedy.com/Instagram https://www.instagram.com/amberautrycomedy/ Get full access to The Morse Code at korby.substack.com/subscribe

Newt Gingrich. The New Space Race – United States vs. China Newt talks with Dr. Greg Autry, author of "Red Moon Rising: How America Will Beat China on the Final Frontier". They discuss the new space race between the United States and China, with the moon as the ultimate high ground. Autry highlights the vast lunar resources that could determine the quality of life on earth in the future. He also discusses the potential of space for manufacturing and medical advancements, such as growing stem cells and creating pharmaceuticals in zero gravity. However, Autry expresses concern about the United States' ability to beat China to the moon, citing a lack of top-level support in the current administration for the space program. Newt's World  May 12 2024   Other Episodes About the book: Red Moon Rising: How America Will Beat China on the Final Frontier – April 30, 2024 by Greg Autry (Author), Peter Navarro (Author), Douglas Loverro (Foreword) 5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars    10 ratings See all formats and editions 100+ bought or read in past month Space Race 2.0 has started, and the winner—America or Communist China—will define the future of humanity. The space race was a critical determining factor in the Cold War. After its Sputnik miracle, the Soviets' loss of the race to the Moon undermined the international mystique of Communism and crushed the USSR's dreams of world domination. America's wildly successful Apollo program, by sharp contrast, brought America global glory and prestige—along with a plethora of “miracle technologies” that accelerated economic growth and strengthened US national security for half a century. We are now embroiled with a brutal and autocratic Communist China in a new cold war and second, far more consequential, race to the Moon—whichever country seizes the commanding heights of the moon will have preferential access to vast lunar resources that will determine the quality of life on Earth and the political and moral character of the human diaspora as it advances into the solar system. America should win Space Race 2.0 and is leading an international and commercial coalition to do so. Yet, Communist China is giving no ground even as its rockets soar above us. The clear risk: Timid and visionless policy makers in the White House and Congress may well surrender the ultimate high ground to the butchers of Beijing. Greg Autry and Peter Navarro have been warning of this competition for more than a decade. Both were influential in the construction of America's triumphant space agenda during the Trump administration. In this book, they take you through the technology, economics, and history of this important topic and provide policy recommendations that will win the Space Race for America. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   Order Newt's Latest Book: March to the Majority: The Real Story of the Republican Revolution!
