Health and Safety Conversations

On March 11, 2011, fifty minutes after a magnitude 9.0 earthquake hit eastern Japan, a tsunami 45-feet high engulfed the nuclear power plant known as Fukushima Daiichi, knocking out electrical power and all the reactors' safety systems. Three reactor cores experienced meltdowns in the first three days, leading to an unimaginable nuclear disaster. The person the Tokyo Electric Power Company called for help was Dr. Chuck Casto. What an amazing and humble gentleman. A great honour and pleasure speaking with Chuck, I am sure you will love this conversation as much as I did.Dr. Charles Casto is a nuclear safety and regulatory professional with 38 years of experience consisting of positions of increasing responsibility, including executive, regulatory, technical, and operational areas of expertise. He was a member of the U.S. Government's Senior Executive Service, and last held the position of NRC, Regional Administrator, Region III, overseeing 23 reactors in eight states as one of the senior administrators for the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission.Dr. Casto led the integrated US Government and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) efforts in Japan during the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011. Working directly with Ambassador Roos, and coordinating with the NRC's Emergency Operations Center in the U.S., he represented the United States Government to the Japanese Prime Minister's Cabinet. His efforts are widely recognized as being a singular contribution to the emergency response during the Fukushima nuclear crisis, through his efforts in coordinating the U.S. government response, providing technical consultation to the Daiichi plant manager and Japan's nuclear agencies, and serving as a liaison to Japanese Prime Minister Kan Naoto during the Fukushima nuclear disaster. After serving for 11 months in Japan as the U.S. government's lead nuclear representative during the crisis, Dr. Casto received the Presidential Distinguished Award (2012) from President Obama; for his contributions to the U.S. government, he previously received the Meritorious Rank Award (2009) from President Bush.Links.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-charles-chuck-casto-990b948/Website: https://www.castogroup.com/Further context can be gained here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciRRsCIAy6A Thanks for listening. Previously, Co-hosts, Dr. Brittäne Parker and Dr. Quentin Youmans, talked with Dr. Smith about the hidden curriculum.Key messages: With the hidden curriculum, one language is used to discuss medicine, diseases, and research, and another is used to demonstrate your competence as a clinician. Nonverbal cues can be an important part of the latter, along with verbal cues.Acknowledging the positive aspects of the hidden curriculum, like empathy and reflection, and intentionally spreading these through mentorship can be educational, although these are not yet universally done. For trainees, be observant, ask questions, identify examples of practice and communication styles that are desirable for your own practice. For mentors, faculty, and educators, give trainees timely and helpful feedback to adjust behaviors if needed.Learn more at thedeishift.com.The conversation continues on Twitter with the #PTBGIM. For this episode, be sure to tag @theDEIShift @ACP_SoCAL. Tell us why you're #ProudToBeGIM and share your perspectives, experiences, or tips on how to promote positive aspects of the hidden curriculum and mitigate the negative aspects of the hidden curriculum as a general internal medicine specialist or trainee.#ProudtobeGIM is a campaign from the Society of General Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians aimed at encouraging medical students and residents to pursue General Internal Medicine. Tesoro Resources Limited (ASX: TSO) is an Australian public company with exploration stage gold assets in Chile. Founded in 2017 by the members of the Board, Tesoro is focused on acquiring and developing high grade gold assets that have potential to be district scale mining projects. As the Gold price has recently started to come off a little, the Tesoro share price has also reduced but Tesoro is a well funded company with the ability to ride the bumps in the market. The company has the next 12-18 months well planned out in growing the El Zorro project going forward. The El Zorro Gold Project is Tesoro’s main focus and covers over 500km2 and is located 140km by road from the city Copiapo in Region III, northern Chile. El Zorro is 100km north of Santiago in one of the best mining regions of Chile. El Zorro is situated on the coast, 15km from the Pan-American highway, 20km from grid power and 20km from the detail plant so has good infrastructure, is not at altitude and is near to a port.Chile is a great mining jurisdiction and has a long history of mining investment. The country is well supported by excellent infrastructure and it is comparatively easy to complete the permitting process and there is a cost advantage of mining in Chile too. Geologically, El Zorro is an intrusive, related Gold system and Tesoro is focused on drilling out the Ternera deposit. They have 5 rigs turning 24/7 and are shortly looking to increase that to 6. They have gone from a 30,000m drill programme to now budgeting for a further 35-40,000m drill programme for infill drilling and resource definition. The step out holes are well mineralised and the aim is to get as many holes into the ground as possible to form the basis of a scoping study and get the maiden resource out by mid-year 2021. Tesoro will deliver the resource and start the permitting process for El Zorro and then the market will start to take note and provide a realistic valuation for the company. El Zorro is a new project in a world class destination, located next to a port with good infrastructure and this will be a medium to long term project for Tesoro. The fundamentals which underpin this project of scale, grade, operating costs and capex, all together ultimately build a robust project for the company which is planning to build a mine and are not looking for strategic partners at this point. Company page: https://www.tesororesources.com.au/ Explore More Here: https://cruxinvestor.comJoin our Club's waitlist: https://cruxinvestor.com/clubFor FREE unbiased investment information, follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook:https://twitter.com/cruxinvestorhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/crux-investor/https://www.facebook.com/cruxinvestorIf you got value from this interview, please subscribe.

In this podcast, we chat to Christian Easterday, Managing Director of Hot Chili Ltd, an ASX-listed Australian mineral exploration company, well-advanced in developing its portfolio of copper projects on the coastal range in Region III, Chile.  With impressive recent results, we chat about the company's Cortadera project and the possibility of turning it into a Tier 1 asset due to the discoveries that have been made. We talk about the widely publicised lack of new large-scale copper developments in the world, and how Hot Chili’s projects stack up against other developments and recent major discoveries. KEY TAKEAWAYS Hot Chili was listed on the ASX back in 2010, and saw great success through the results gained by their flagship project near Santiago. Since developing the Cortadera project, Hot Chili have seen huge exponential growth on site. The scale of the project, and the rewards found so far, have amazed the company, and exceeded expectations. Hot Chili are heading a very narrow field of companies who have made significant discoveries over recent years; discoveries which have led to a firm foothold in the industry, and which have led to heightened prosperity. Copper is a very deep market. Projects that deal in copper are becoming more rare, are more difficult to find. The industry has responded by investing more into copper identification, and to seek that next, elusive Tier 1 copper find… Copper is the “green metal” of the future. It is the centre of electrification, and in turn, the centre of the renewables industry. It is a resource that will be talked about more and more in the coming years. .BEST MOMENTS ‘You show your resilience when you go through nuclear winters' ‘We ended the years as one of the highest-performing ASX companies’ ‘What we have at the moment is certainly a lot bigger than we thought’ ’That external environment on copper price becomes less important’ ‘Copper is on everyone’s shopping list’ VALUABLE RESOURCES   Dig Deep – The Mining Podcast on iTunes Are you going to the upcoming Indaba Mining Conference 2020 in Cape Town, South Africa from the 3rd – 6th February, 2020? We are talking to Amanda Burke about Team Rubicon the fastest growing disaster response NGO in the nation. Amanda Burke is the Region III administrator. Team Rubicon's primary mission is providing disaster relief to those affected by natural disasters, be they domestic or international. By pairing the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders, medical professionals, and technology solutions, Team Rubicon aims to provide the greatest service and impact possible. Through continued service, Team Rubicon seeks to provide our veterans with three things they lose after leaving the military: a purpose, gained through disaster relief; community, built by serving with others; and self-worth, from recognizing the impact one individual can make. Coupled with leadership development and other opportunities, Team Rubicon looks to help veterans transition from military to civilian life.   Links: www.teamrubiconusa.org
