A few months ago, Lisa and David played Ghost Light at Myss Tic in Brooklyn, NY, with Eric Molinsky, host of the podast Imaginary Worlds. Eric has been a long time immersive theater and larp fan, but he had yet to be sold on escape rooms. They were convinced that he (like so many others!) just hadn't had the opportunity to experience what great escape rooms have to offer - so they pitched him on doing an escape room episode.  What he made was a beautiful exploration of the escape room world. We absolutely love the episode that he produced and want to make sure that our community is aware of it.    REPOD Season 9 is currently in the works... we have some amazing episodes already lined up for you. Nick A. (Ollie) Olivero is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Boxcar Theatre, a production company specializing in immersive and interactive theater experiences. He is also the creator of The Speakeasy, a long-running 1920s-themed immersive show in San Francisco, and has produced over 60 live experiences, including magic shows and haunted houses. With over 25 years of experience in theater, Ollie has raised millions of dollars in funding, built large-scale productions, and expanded into venue management and corporate events. In this episode… Attendance is declining in traditional theater, and immersive experiences are emerging as the new frontier. What does it take to build a multimillion-dollar immersive theater business that keeps people coming back? Visionary immersive theater creator Nick A. (Ollie) Olivero says that engagement comes from blending artistic innovation with business strategy. While immersive theater can be a powerful experience, it must also be commercially viable to survive. Ollie's journey began with small experimental productions and evolved into large-scale, interactive experiences like The Speakeasy, which required a $2.5 million venue build-out and $1.5 million in fundraising. He maintains that understanding audience psychology, creating memorable real-world experiences, and adapting through challenges have been critical to sustaining and growing his business. In this episode of the Rising Entrepreneurs Podcast, John Corcoran sits down with Nick A. (Ollie) Olivero, Co-Founder & Executive Director at Boxcar Theatre, to discuss how he built a thriving immersive theater business. He shares how he built The Speakeasy, the strategy behind turning theater into a sustainable business model, and how he successfully raised funding for large-scale productions.

I used to think escape rooms were gimmicky activities where everyone scrambled to solve puzzles while I stood around feeling useless. On the other hand, I love immersive theater, where an interactive play unfolds as you walk through a space. I thought they were very different types of live entertainment. Not anymore. I talk with David and Lisa Spira from the site Escape Room Artist and podcast Reality Escape Pod about how escape rooms are becoming emotionally resonant, sophisticated theatrical works. We go through the haunted escape room Ghost Light at MyssTic Rooms, and I talk with their co-founder and artistic director Gara Roda. Haley E.R. and J. Cameron Cooper of Strange Bird Immersive discuss the innovative ways they designed The Man From Beyond, their Houdini-themed séance escape room. Plus, Victor van Doorn and Francine Boon of the company Sherlocked explore how far they can go in creating a sense of authenticity from the feel of the props to the actors who won't admit you're entering an escape room. Horizon is a one-on-one immersive theater piece where an audience member is asked a series of questions by a 15-year old to imagine their future 30 years from now in 2052. It ends up being a world building exercise where the audience has to create an imaginal future for the next generation, but it also works as a broader metaphor for the intergenerational legacy that will be inheriting by future generations. I found it to be both very challenging and confronting to translate my thoughts about the deep future that we're leaving behind in a way that was very specific to one individual. We often think about the future in broad generalizations rather than how they may impact an individual's life, and being asked to imagine someone's story in an one-on-one immersive theater conversation like this was very striking and powerful in a way that both landed for me in the moment, but also really stuck with me.

Screenwriter Eva Anderson who was personally recommended on air by Paul Rust is here for the very first time and she didn't bring Jimmy Pardo any cookies despite having won various ribbons at the county fair! I wasn't going to say anything, I didn't even think to be upset, but Jimmy Pardo is steamed. Eva tells us about Andrew Tate's wizard and her experience with extremely immersive theater. I took a nasty fall in our kitchen and Jimmy has a similar story involving a movie theater and his labrum. Plus Just Me Or Everyone, the return of Snack Chat, and some jokes from Elliot! This episode features Russell "Muslce" Kahn, actor, producer, immersive theatre creator, and assistant to the "Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" AKA Rachel Brosnahan. Russell and Caitlin start out the episode talking quarancrews or lack-thereof, the nightly cheering for healthcare heroes, and how lucky we are to be going through this pandemic in a digital age. Russell insightfully describes how he created his show Arcade Amerikana as a solution to our generation's waning interest in live theatre. He details how the show incorporates elements that more traditional theatrical productions lack, such as projector screens, DJ mixing, and performer-audience interaction, all to make for a more comprehensive and engaging experience. Russell then describes acting, working with Rachel and on the set of Maisel, and rejecting "adulting" by tapping into his inner child in the "Quarter Life Qualms" segment. We wrap up by playing a quick game of "7 Tea" questions (inspired by Vogue's 73 questions) where Russell rapid fires off some facts about himself. Follow Russell on Instagram @russellmuslce and Caitlin @ckny1213 and @wtfsuppod. Masked, quarantined and looking for fun, I start this Bedside Chat by dishing on tRump's goofy “press conferences” that reveal nothing but his own small-penis anxieties when he yells at female reporters. Next, I help a troubled cuckold caller handle his mixed feelings of arousal and shame over seeing his girlfriend have sex with another man.   Then, I immerse myself in the roleplay-ful pleasures of kink-positive “immersive theater" with Intramersive Theater Director and Harvard grad, Carly Dwyer, and Sharang Biswas, Dartmouth grad, actor and game designer. What a lively, creative pair. Together, we explore kink and the immersive arts, sexy games, LARP (Live-Action Role-Play), “Pass the Sugar, Please,” Masturbation Month, Ivy League competition, sperm wars, bukkake as cream on scones, sapiosexual metaphor and the Erotic Theater of the Mind.    Shakespeare said, “All the world's a stage,” and immersive theater opens the stage door for everyone to participate—including theatrical kinksters.   It's another great Bedside Chat of the Coronapocalypse, inspired by FDR's Fireside Chats.   Check out the show journal: http://drsusanblock.com/immersive     Need to talk PRIVATELY about the Erotic Theater of the Mind, cuckolding, sperm wars, masturbation, isolation or anything else you can't talk about with anyone else?
