Kara Rigdon, a 27 year old mother of 2 was last seen in Gravel Switch, Kentucky on Saturday July 17, 2010 , she disappeared after meeting a friend. She spoke to her mother on the phone in the early morning hours of July 18, but never returned home or showed up for work. Her car was found abandoned 7 days later on July 25. Several months later, her estranged husband William and his family were arrested on unrelated charges, connected to evidence found during Kara's investigation. In this post, our second in a series, Tracy Rigdon was joined by special guest, the talented writer and journalist, Stephen Dare, who is also a consultant to the campaign to elect Democratic candidate for Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, Donna Deegan. They discussed the challenges that small businesses face in Northeast Florida. Dare talks about how it has been 20 years since either the Republican or Democrat candidate reached out to young business owners in the area. He notes that there are too many regulations and red tape, making it difficult to open a small business. They mention the change of use requirement, which mandates that a private engineer certify older buildings, costing business owners upwards of about $10,000. Dare is in favor of the idea of creating more business improvement districts. They talk about how such a district could help small businesses in the community by providing them with a funding source that they could use for entertainment, repainting the streets, or adding trees. The district would also provide support and membership groups to small businesses without the need for the city's support. Dare believes that small businesses are the backbone of the economy, as does Candidate Donna Deegan, and need more support from the city. They also talk about how cleaning up small businesses would improve the community by creating walkable neighborhoods with thriving little areas and pockets of town. They discuss how this concept has worked in other neighborhoods, such as San Marco, and how it could work in other areas that have empty buildings. Overall, they believe that the idea of creating a business improvement district could be a useful tool for helping small businesses in the community thrive. Dare talks about the importance of planning and zoning in cities and mentions that a portion of the units developed in a city, such as Jacksonville, should be workforce housing. He suggests breaking up the idea of segregating the poor and the wealthy and building affordable housing units along with luxury housing to create a safe environment for everyone. Dare mentions that the current plan of building in floodplains is not viable, and the city should instead invest in building things now that will benefit the city in the future. Rigdon agrees with Dare's vision and adds that Donna Deegan has future vision and wants to leave each part of what she does in a better place than she found it. The conversation then moves to the topic of creating tech hubs in the city, with the recent news of a 500 million dollar pot of money from the feds. Dare talks about the Robotics Place and mentions that Jacksonville has a spaceport that the city has ignored for 25 years, which could be an excellent opportunity to attract someone like Elon Musk. ** #104 Roasting Saints 19 ** :: Temple Zero :: On "Saints" episode 19 they discuss the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. A historic site currently owned by the The Community of Christ sect of Mormonism, rather than the main "Motherchurch". The dedication sounded exactly like a regular Pentecostal mass-hypnosis session, complete with charismatic speakers that everyone seemed more than happy to listen to for hours at a time. Smitty and Rigdon must have felt so validated as they regurgitated King James style bastardisations of the English language to such a captive audience. This first temple is a far-cry from the Masonic hybrid that Mormon temples have become. So naturally, they wheel out the ye-olde "line-upon-line" explanation, as a hypnotic trigger to let themselves off-the-hook for any cognitive dissonace. Ben Godfrey even convinced himself that Smitty received the plans for this white-box by devine revelation. A design so simple, that if it were red, would resemble a hotel playing-piece from the board-game "Monopoly". He even name-dropped the Joseph Smith Papers website where we could check out the revelation for ourselves. Turns out it was just DNC 95. Ben seemed so sure that even the interior was described. It wasn't. Instead, Smitty just says what activities are to be performed inside his silly white box. ** #095 Roasting Saints 15 ** :: Dying Alone on Video Chat :: We're really treated this week on "Saints" episode 15. Elder J Devin Cornish, from the Quorum of the Seventy, lends his sleep inducing voice to the inane rhetoric. If only he'd let Sarah Eyring say more, instead of overtalking her. I mean, it still would have been rhetoric, but it would have sounded beautiful, at least to Sister Patience. The Elder references the wrong scripture as inspiration for Doctrine And Covenants 76. He mentions John 5:39, but he mixed it up with John 5:29. One character different. Very different content though. Guess he was speaking "as a man" there and not "from God". Here are the two verses from the King Jimmy version: John 5:39 ~ "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." John 5:29 ~ "And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." Smitty and Rigdon invent group improvisation, and "yes-and" themselves to D&C 76. William McLellin gets "dragged" by the "Saints" hosts for: Questioning Joseph. Leaving his mission early. Marrying instead of completing his mission. Accompanying (or leading?) a company of 100 Mormons to settle in Jackson County against Smitty's wishes. Buying land from the Government directly, instead of participating in Smitty's Communism Scheme called "The Law of Consecration". Rigdon literally gets dragged, and along with with Joseph is assaulted by a mob, in a disgusting display of vigilante "justice". The assaulted had been shitty; and in the absence of better law-enforcement, the assaulters felt permitted to punish them with emotionally fuelled violence. That's the wrong way to address grievances in ANY era.  A 27-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly hitting his ex-girlfriend with a car and killing her. Officers responded to a report of a bicyclist being struck by a car in the 3000 block of South Rural Street at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1. The 29-year-old Kayla Bowling was found "laying in the driveway of 3002 S. Rural St., near a bicycle suffering from trauma consistent with being struck by a vehicle." Police reported that Bowling was transported to a hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. According to reports, investigators identified Kyle Rigdon as the suspect in the hit-and-run. WXIN-TV reports that Rigdon, Bowling's ex-boyfriend, sent her a Facebook message saying: "Have fun with whatever you have going on tonight. Tomorrow will be the biggest wakeup call of your life." In addition, Bowling reportedly told her mother that she feared her ex-boyfriend would kill her. Several days ago, Rigdon allegedly slashed Bowling's tires and stalked and harassed her. Rigdon reportedly showed up to work on June 1 telling his employer he had hurt his girlfriend and requested his co-worker say he has been at work since 10 a.m., although he didn't show up until 12 p.m. When Rigdon's employer learned of Bowling's death, he called the police. Police say Rigdon was arrested on Friday, June 3. Apparently, officers found Rigdon's car on West Michigan Street and followed him until he was taken into custody. When they searched his vehicle, they found grass and dirt on the front left bumper and a damaged front left bumper. On February 16, 1832, Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon were working on the Prophet's “translation” of the Bible. This wasn't a translation in a linguistic sense, where someone takes a text from one language and presents it in another. No, this was a project about seeking out meanings and insights that had been lost over hundreds of years of Christian thought and practice. Smith sought to expand upon what he had learned as an American Christian by increasing his spiritual knowledge through a concentrated reading of the Bible, clarifying and expanding the Old and New Testaments from 1830-1833. Part of the Prophet's translation process included asking questions—what does this verse mean? What else did the Lord have to tell him about figures like Melchizedek and Abraham? On February 16, 1832, Smith and Rigdon sought clarification on the text of John 5:29, where Jesus Christ speaks on the resurrection saying that those who “have done good” would receive the resurrection of life,” and those who had done evil, would reap “the resurrection of damnation.” As the Prophet and his scribe, Sidney Rigdon, pondered what the two resurrections might mean, they beheld a vision of what awaited humankind after death, what has been canonized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Doctrine and Covenants Section 76, or what contemporary Saints called “The Vision.” The post Abide #1: Doctrine and Covenants Section 76 appeared first on Neal A.
