Today, Kirbi and Dustin Love share the story of their morning Pandora: The World of Avatar ceremony and Nomad Lounge brunch in Animal Kingdom, with a reception that night at Terrace des Fleurs in EPCOT. Guest experience was a top priority for Dustin and Kirbi, so they added mix-ins on four different rides: a choice of Flight of Passage or Na'vi River Journey after the ceremony, and a choice of Soarin' or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind after the reception. They also added a welcome party at the Grand Floridian Marina so that they could surprise guests with an appearance by Mickey, Minnie, Chip 'n' Dale in their Christmas outfits, which weren't allowed at any of the couple's other venues. Today we're journeying to Lake Baikal, the largest, oldest, deepest freshwater lake in the world...and to get there, we're crossing over a thousand miles in Mongolia and Russia by camel, horse, kayak, and rowboat. Like all lakes, Lake Baikal exists because of a river. And in 2018, fishing and river guide Peter Fong led the first-ever expedition from the headwaters of Mongolia's Delgermörön (Selenge) River all the way to Lake Baikal. (Part 2 of 2) As the Director of Academic Peer Advising and Coordinator for Strategic Initiatives in the College of Arts and Sciences at Oberlin College, Nathan Carpenter is a leader of campus ePortfolio programs and efforts. Nathan recently sat down with Jeff Yan for a two-part Digication Scholars Conversation covering the many facets of his role at Oberlin. In Part 1, they discuss the two programs Nathan leads: the Peer Advising Leaders (PALs) program, and the Sophomore Opportunities and Academic Resources (SOAR) program. Nathan explains the benefits of peer-advising as a supplement to traditional academic advising. “I think it can be really helpful to see someone who was in your shoes not too long ago, and to know that they have a real understanding of the holistic experience.” He also introduces the concept of a “River Journey,” an idea used in the SOAR program to help students visualize their path through higher education and beyond. In Part 2, they discuss Oberlin's recently launched integrative concentrations, combining coursework with real world experiences, and they speculate on the future of digital communication in higher education. “I think that one of the new frontiers probably at all levels of education, including higher ed, is going to be thinking about how communication and collaboration can happen in a truly constructive way in a digital space.”

It's a world of science fiction, it's an earth-like moon, it's a world of precious minerals called unobtainium. James Cameron had a dream, of blue people who are tall, and now we have a small Pandora World! That's right people get out your blue face paint and pour yourself a Blue Hawaiian because it's Na'vi River Journey week! We love a good slow moving boat ride here on the pod and this ride does not disappoint...well, except maybe in length. Anyway, will the Na'vi River Journey sail to the top or will it be taken down by it's ride brethren? There's only one way to find out!

Since the 1964-1965 World's Fair in New York, Disney has been synonymous with dark rides. From “it's a small world” to Na'vi River Journey, these attractions have been entertaining guests for generations. This week my guest and I talk about our favorites on Episode 122: Favorite Disney Dark Rides. How does a Disney super fan choose his or her FAVORITE dark rides?
