Tennessee Aquarium is now celebrating Holidays Under the Peaks through December 29th. Alison Pryor is the media coordinator of the Tennessee Aquarium and describes this as a festive adventure through a fun-filled underwater wonderland. It begins with holiday music and decor in the River Journey lobby. Look for a lighted tree twinkling in sync with the jolly jolts of an Electric Eel. And in keeping with beloved holiday tradition, The Polar Express 3D returns to the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshow/wmbwSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Time for a little house tour of the Frat Pack's lovely home, complete with a beautifully painted table in the foyer. Hunt gets a reality check from Bryce and also nails a superhero landing.
Today we're journeying to Lake Baikal, the largest, oldest, deepest freshwater lake in the world...and to get there, we're crossing over a thousand miles in Mongolia and Russia by camel, horse, kayak, and rowboat. Like all lakes, Lake Baikal exists because of a river. And in 2018, fishing and river guide Peter Fong led the first-ever expedition from the headwaters of Mongolia's Delgermörön (Selenge) River all the way to Lake Baikal. As Peter writes, "Rowing to Baikal is about the fish and wildlife that call the river home. About the personal risks of prolonged flooding and sudden snowstorms. About the human history of the region, from the Bronze Age to the fall of the Soviet Union. About the people who live in the basin now—from nomadic herders to construction workers—and their attitudes toward development and conservation. About the old gods and legends that haunt the mountains. And about the disparate possible futures for one of the most starkly beautiful places on Earth." FIND PETER Get Peter's book about the expedition, Rowing to Baikal, at RowingToBaikal.com or at your local bookshop. Half of the proceeds from book sales are supporting the International Taimen Initiative via the Wild Salmon Center, so it supports a great cause!

(Part 2 of 2) As the Director of Academic Peer Advising and Coordinator for Strategic Initiatives in the College of Arts and Sciences at Oberlin College, Nathan Carpenter is a leader of campus ePortfolio programs and efforts. Nathan recently sat down with Jeff Yan for a two-part Digication Scholars Conversation covering the many facets of his role at Oberlin. In Part 1, they discuss the two programs Nathan leads: the Peer Advising Leaders (PALs) program, and the Sophomore Opportunities and Academic Resources (SOAR) program. Nathan explains the benefits of peer-advising as a supplement to traditional academic advising. “I think it can be really helpful to see someone who was in your shoes not too long ago, and to know that they have a real understanding of the holistic experience.” He also introduces the concept of a “River Journey,” an idea used in the SOAR program to help students visualize their path through higher education and beyond. In Part 2, they discuss Oberlin's recently launched integrative concentrations, combining coursework with real world experiences, and they speculate on the future of digital communication in higher education. “I think that one of the new frontiers probably at all levels of education, including higher ed, is going to be thinking about how communication and collaboration can happen in a truly constructive way in a digital space.”

Back in the late summer of 2016, three of my closest friends and I canoed the Yukon's Snake and Peel Rivers, coursing our way from the vast alpine meadows and soaring summits of the Mackenzie Mountains, down onto the storied Peel Plateau past the Arctic circle. A three-week journey over 500kms, through one of the most remote and undisturbed watersheds in North America – an area over twice the size of Vancouver Island, without a single year-round inhabitant. https://selfdiscoverymedia.com/2017/07/08/eco-17-28-the-snake-river-journey-with-tayu-hayward/

This is one of my favorite guided imagery practices. It was a lot of fun to create and is always enjoyable to deliver. This meditation is a great one to clear your mind and relax- find a peaceful place to sit, maybe even outside and enjoy! Hi Everyone! Today I have Liz Richards with me today, and she is a MFA Animation SCAD student, and working pro concept art. I really appreciate all the advice Liz gave me during my animation class. Here is more about Liz: I live and work in sunny Burbank, California with my husband, 3 kiddos, and lucky black cat. I use a combination of animation, set design, and illustration daily in my career as a senior art director and concept artist for theme parks and animation. I was an Imagineer with Walt Disney Imagineering for 7 years, and I continue to work with Disney and other clients now as a freelance artist while I'm raising my young family. Some of my favorite professional projects have been creating the blacklight murals for Star Tours, creating plants for the Na'avi River Journey for Pandora(Avatar) at Disneyworld, and recently working on the preshow for the newly opened Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast attraction in Tokyo Disneyland. I'm passionate about environment design and I believe background art is a crucial element of storytelling. I love collaborating and creating places with character. All right I got to complain for a hot second about the storyline or lack there of on this attraction. Na’vi River Journey is so picturesque and beautiful and well color designed it has great sound skipping and yet I’m still at a loss as to what is going on and why we exist there. I get it we’re probably just looking at the flora and fauna of Pandora and it’s majesty but then they go and blow all this money on one of the coolest animatronics but without any kind of context and I just love to know what she’s actually saying. Plus the food is huge do you ever look at the shamans foot wow. Hahaha I digress. Head to WalrusCarp.com for funny disney snack clothing and enjoy Na’vi River Journey.
Where else can you listen to a discussion on the Na'vi River Journey at Animal Kingdom, Paul Stanley's new R&B album called "Now and Then", and an interpretation of the greatest sports movie of all time? Only right here at RexandtheBeast.com with our Coasters and Culture Podcast!

Pandora – The World of Avatar raised the bar for immersive themed lands when it opened at Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in 2017. Between Avatar Flight of Passage, Na'vi River Journey, Satu'li Canteen, Pongu Pongu, and of course the land itself, travelers visiting the Valley of Mo'ara (courtesy of Alpha Centauri Expeditions, per the story) are transported to an alien world that feels all too real. That's thanks to the countless Imagineers who put years of work into creating the land's attractions. While many think of Imagineer Joe Rohde or even Director James Cameron while exploring the land (virtually or in person), there are countless others who contributed to the land's design, including my two special guests on today's episode: Adam and Rebecca. Adam, a former Set Decorator for Walt Disney Imagineering, and Rebecca, a former Scenic Artist working for a contractor, helped to literally set the stage for Pandora – The World of Avatar. From hand-weaving artwork at Satu'li Canteen to setting in place the tiniest details in the Flight of Passage queue, Adam and Rebecca helped bring the story of Pandora into the real world. In this two-part episode, we'll discuss how to land a job at Walt Disney Imagineering, reveal what the day-to-day is like for most Imagineers and contractors working on a project, and of course share the stories that contributed to the many details around the land itself. I'd like to extend a huge thank you to both Adam and Rebecca for lending their time and stories to this two-part episode! In the summer of 1991, reporter and environmentalist Steve Grant traveled the entire 410 miles of the Connecticut River from its source near the Canadian border in New Hampshire to the Long Island Sound by self-addled canoe. Throughout the 33 day journey, Grant reported on his voyage in stories for the Hartford Courant. His every-other-day tales made Grant a celebrity and his journey a legend. Twenty-nine years after that life-changing trip,State Historian Walt Woodward met Grant on the banks of the Connecticut River in Hartford, to talk about the journey, the man, and the river in another time. It's a fascinating two-part interview that covers everything from early 90's internet technology, to environmental restoration, to moose-induced traffic jams in the Great North Woods.
In part two oof Steve Grant's Legendary 1991 Source-to-Sea journey on the Connecticut River, we'll talk about Some of the Connecticut RIver's endangered species, the issues that affected the river's health then and now, the celebrations at the end of the voyage, and what the journey means to Grant some thirty years one. Today, Jessica Ho shares the story of her Wedding Pavilion ceremony and American Adventure Rotunda reception, along with a first look at Coronado Springs’ Gran Destino Plaza, a traditional Chinese tea ceremony at Gran Destino Tower’s Alcazar Suite, a pre-ceremony cocktail hour in the resort’s Lantana Hall, and EPCOT Forever fireworks at Italy Isola! Because American Adventure requires a later start for receptions, Jessica and Wenbo moved the cocktail hour before the ceremony to be sure guests wouldn’t go hungry. Jessica discusses the logistics of the later timeline, along with how they amped up their reception for Wenbo, who loves to dance, by adding extra lights, a custom gobo, and WWE-inspired CO2 jets blasting the dance floor! And she shares details of their rehearsal dinner at Animal Kingdom’s Tamu Tamu Courtyard, with surprise ride mix-ins on Avatar: Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. Today I give you an accessibility report from Pandora - The World of Avatar. I share how to beat the heat and the crowds and give you a look inside the Satu’li Canteen and my experience with mobile ordering. I take you on the Na’vi River Journey and spend some time with the cast members in charge of helping with transfers. I then head over to Flight of Passage and describe the accessibility and sensory experience in the queue and on the ride itself, spending a good amount of time on the “banshee” seat that you use to experience the ride. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Let's head back to Pandoa at Disney's Animal Kingdom to experience and review one of the park's newest attractions, the Na'vi River Journey! Support the show and get fun Bonus content over at http://www.patreon.com/saturdaymorningmedia Intro Bumper by Clinton of Comedy4Cast - http://www.Comedy4Cast.com INTRO TRANSCRIPT This episode we are headed back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to Pandora to hop on the Na’vi River Journey. The souvenir guidemap describes the Na’vi River Journey as follows: Journey deep into the bioluminescent rainforest in search of the Na’vi Shaman of Songs. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and FastPass+ is available. Before we search for the Shaman of Songs, here are five fast facts about the Na’vi River Journey. 1. The Na’vi Rivier Journey, based on James Cameron’s movie Avatar, had several soft opening previews, but officially opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 27, 2017. 2. The winding queue area features textiles created by the Na’vi as well as totems to the Shaman of Songs. 3. The ceiling of the main queue area features a woven map of the Kaspavan river and at night, this map lights up and shows ‘real time’ representations of the various life forms moving along the river. 4. The 4 and a half minute long river journey features layered projections of various Pandora natives and wildlife coupled with actual sets and video projection mapping technology to make creatures seem three dimensional. 5. The finale of the attraction features a float past the Shaman of Songs. There is not much information available about the building of the Shaman of songs animatronic other than it is the most complex animatronic Walt Disney Imagineering has ever created. Walt Disney Imagineering Executive producer Lisa Girolami says of the animatronic, “…the key is we don't stop until that technology can't be seen. It should be invisible, so when you see the Shaman she does look lifelike.” And now that we know a little more about the Na’vi River Journey, let’s hop aboard our boat and experience the attraction for ourselves. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now and stay tuned after the ride to hear my initial impressions of the Na’Vi River Journey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
