Clay is an author, and has been an award winning journalist, a correspondent for the United Press International in Tokyo, a freelance reporter for National Public Radio, Newsweek, Huffington Post, Earth Magazine, The Humanist, and Scientific American, just to name a few. Part of this play debuted last summer at the 2023 First Flight Festival , and the full play went on to be performed at the 2023 Omaha Fringe Festival. Clay is now debuting his new play, The Cleanup Lady (When AI Strikes You Need the Cleanup Lady), which is about a company that uses an AI machine to invest in other people's money, except all of the guardrails to ensure the money is being invested with honest investors has been removed. The Cleanup Lady will be performed at the 2024 Omaha Fringe Festival August 9-11th at the Benson Theatre, one of the Omaha Fringe's four venues. There will also be a Preview Performance in Lincoln on August 4th at Eastmont Senior Living Center and open to the public. Priori (@priori-ties) has always explored a wide range of techno from dense and introspective to more joyous, often against the backdrop of technological possibilities. He hails from Canada and has been prolific since first emerging with two full-lengths to his name on his own NAFF label. They pair dubby undercurrents with crystalline melodies and contain the sort of unresolved tensions that keep you locked in for the ride. This weekend he plays Dekmantel Naarm 2024 but first has served up this new mi for us. Priori says this is the first dance mix he's done in a long time, adding "It's an hour and a half of fresh rhythms and rave sounds that I recorded while on tour in Australia. It features a few tracks I have been playing a lot lately and some forthcoming bits by myself and some friends." In just over 90 minutes he works through a rollercoaster of deep techno rhythms that are firmly focused on the future and flow as fluidly as water.

Purelink have been described more than once as an "ambient boy band." (They themselves say "jam band.") It's not meant dismissively—the American trio purposefully mean to function as a band, even if their main instruments are laptops. Ambient might not quite cut it as a descriptor, though. The group's music crosses eras and scenes, touching on the late '90s clicks & cuts boom as well as the billowy ambient techno put out by labels like 3XL, West Mineral Ltd. and NAFF. Their most recent LP, Signs, released on enigmatic imprint Peak Oil (and one of our favourite albums of 2023), is especially impressive, made of stuttering rhythms and glassy textures. In other words, it's ambient-not-ambient. While members Concave Reflection, kindtree and Millia have all made excellent music on their own, something special happens when they come together. Purelink's RA Podcast is another stellar contribution to our post-New Year's tradition, where we highlight a more laid-back sound to soothe weary minds and frazzled brain cells after the heavy holiday celebrations. This is 90-plus minutes of intricately textured downtempo, dub techno and even UK garage, all cut through with a floaty, almost drowsy quality, with plenty of exclusives and unreleased cuts from the likes of Nick León, James K, Downstairs J and more. It highlights Purelink's position as a bridger of worlds, sounds and tempos. Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/917

A masterclass in aerial hypno grooves from Vancouver's @thurlowjoyce, fresh off the back of a mind melting split EP for NAFF alongside Priori and Regularfantasy packed with euphoric peak time delights. Q. Hey Cole, what inspiration did you draw upon when putting this mix together? Is there a sound, feeling, or time/place in dance music history that connects all the different elements in one way or another? A. Hey Myles. Thanks for having me. I've been Deepcasting since day one. It's a blessing to be able to contribute. I'm in between a few worlds here. I'm originally from Vancouver, Canada, and have been lucky to soak up Canadian sounds since my early days at the Mood Hut parties of free sparkling water. Mood Hut, NAFF, Plush, ISLA, Planet Euphorique, 1080p, they're cozy CanCon scenes and there's a strong connection between Vancouver & Montreal. In parallel I've been stuck on the free form ambiance of 3 X L, Motion Ward, West Mineral Ltd., Kwia adjacent sounds. I'm currently spending a few months in Berlin and just played my first show at Kwia thanks to Nat Marcus (she's the best), and it's an incredibly unique space, the effect of the experience has been lasting. This mix feels like a connection between these experiences. I often feel like my taste is a bit too heavy, emotional, euphoric, or dark, and decided to lean into that. There's some softer sounds I've been lingering on mixed with a lot of functional high energy strict business. I hope there's something the listeners can enjoy as well. Q. Are there any records in the mix that are especially close to your heart, or new or old favourites that you've been keeping up your sleeve for the right moment? A. Naturally there's a healthy amount of CanCon in here. There's so much amazing stuff coming out of NAFF right now. I've been hung up on releases from URA, Purelink and Cousin, as well as one from Cousin's (lovely) label, Moonshoe. Some real bliss from Special Guest DJ as well as with Pontiac Streator as crimeboys. A few favourites from friends (Sverre!), and I've contextualized some of my own. Q. I really enjoyed your recent split EP alongside Priori and Regularfantasy for the wonderful NAFF label. Tell us a bit more about those songs you recorded and how it all came together for the label as your debut EP? A. Thank you! That means a lot. Lemon Citrus and Varial are 100% pandemic tracks. I've always struggled to push my own stuff and haven't released much of it or done a good job of putting myself out there. I was writing a lot in isolation during this period and remember trying to be more comfortable with the idea of sharing music, and doing so with my friend Jamie (Big Zen). The NAFF connect came about pretty organically. Francis and Adam have been amazing to work with. Jamie's a G. It was, and still is a trip. NAFF has always been a favourite label of mine. It was a dream realized to be able to contribute. Thanks again for having me.

Washington Blade Editor, Kevin Naff is known for best-in-class journalism and coverage of LGBTQ people and issues. He has been with the Blade since 2002, when he took the helm of the nation's oldest LGBTQ news organization. Previous to that, he spent four years at The Baltimore Sun, helping launch the paper's web site in 1996. He has worked as a financial reporter for Reuters, edited a national business trade journal and spent a year in the communications office of a U.S. senator. He graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in journalism and holds a master's certificate in public policy. He has written a poignant memoir leveraging his birds-eye view of LGBTQ history through the marriage equality, hate crimes legislation, and defeat of DADT fights. The memoir is boldly titled "How We Won the War for LGBTQ Equality", but its subtitle is the one to which we all need to pay attention: "And How Our Enemies Could Take it All Away". Fear not, this is no dry telling of gay history, however. While unlike the bestseller Spare , there were no penises frozen in the writing of How We Won, but there is still plenty of "T". From the outing of a prominent Fox News Host, to frantically crawling under tables at the Washington Correspondents Dinner with Laverne Cox looking for diamonds --there are stories to talk about! The Naftas are suitably naff, as the judges go rogue, creating mini challenge awards to crush confidence and judging bizarrely. But we get some good looks, thank you Cheddar, and some chat about our favourite subject, sex with straight men. We even get to discuss famous child murdered briefly, what more could you want? Oslated is a label collective from South Korea, often found presenting lovely deep meditative techno from the likes of Doltz, Saphileaum, Launaea, Javier Marimon, and many more personal faves. They also host a mix series, which has previously featured some great contributions by many faces readers of ASIP will recognize, so it was a pleasure to be asked to contribute a mix. I don't have too much to say on this one, but it moves through some very specific chapters with a common theme throughout (see if you can spot it)… as do many of my mixes! And of course, it's sprinkled with a few unreleased ASIP label bits. Listen below or on the Oslated Soundcloud. Download. Oslated · Oslated Special Mix 026 - ASIP Tracklist:01. Look, we know this is pushing the term "most," but just go with it. It was February, 1996. A coke-filled, overweight 13-year-old me was reading about CES in issue 148 of CVG and salivating over the ultra-positive review of Sonic 3. CVG gave out some high scores, but a 94 was pretty exciting for a SEGA boy like me. What a life I'd have as a games journalist, I thought to myself. Not high on drugs, just full of the hope only a child can possess. I would make this dream a reality and live like a king, never having to buy a video game again. And then, screaming out of the tinny speaker in my Philips radio alarm clock, came a song that was, unknown to me at the time, foretelling my future. Ironic, by Alanis Morissette. A traffic jam when you're already late A "No Smoking" sign on your cigarette break It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife It's being a games journo yeah, and then turning on them in a radio show And isn't it ironic, don't you think? A little too ironic, and yeah I really do think 18 years later, and here we are. The prophecy has been fulfilled in the quest for hits. It's the VG247 Best Games Ever Podcast, episode 8: Best game that journos love but most people think is a bit naff. Please do let us know what you think of the show – and if this is your first time listening, do go back to listen to the previous episodes. You can listen to them in any order you like as there's no rhyme or reason to the topics. If you've got suggestions for topics, we'd love to hear them – but please keep in mind that I'll have to write some award-winning-worthy fiction for each one. “What is VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast?” you ask, hoping it's not going to trigger another ill-conceived nostalgic segway. Well, imagine you are watching a TV panel show from the early 200s. One of the good ones. But the TV is broken so there's only audio, and all the famous panelists were off ill so they had to bring some randos down from the audience. The TV network also started to care about video games, so dedicated a whole show to it, rather than just having one person reference Mario as if he's to be talked about with the same disdain as Fred West. It's also only about 30 minutes long, so if you don't like it you'll be over it in no time at all. We've got some details on the show's content below (if you want to get a refresher before heading to the comments to make a wonderful, considered post or don't want to listen but do want to know what games we picked), so if you want to avoid spoilers, don't scroll past this warning. W A R N I N G The Best Game that journos love but most people think is a bit naff This is the topic of Episode eight of VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast. Here's a rundown of who picked what. Tom – Yakuza 6 (or just any Yakuza game) Right, listen before you start having a go. I am here to get people talking, to be the contrarian jester of the group. So I picked a game from a franchise that I full-well know people love, but Yakuza is a game series that journos adore, yet I don't really get. OK? It's on me, but I'm projecting onto others. Alex – Quantum Break Hello, I'm Alex, definitely not Tom writing words for me as I'm not working today. I apologise for choosing excellent 8/10 sci-fi action banger, Quantum Break, as my game for this week. I have come to understand, since this podcast was recorded, that Quantum Break is a wonderful game that most people love. It's destined to go down in history as one of the greats of the genre. Sherif - Deathloop Everyone in games media has been raving about Deathloop since it came out. When I finally sat down to play it towards the end of last year, I realised that I just don't see what everyone is enamoured by! Deathloop has always been pitched, and advertised, as a time loop game. This is what I went in expecting. I was left in disbelief yet again when I started playing and found that it's not a god damn time loop game! Let us know what game you'd pick and if you think the treatment of Tom is now getting out of hand? If you like the podcast, please subscribe and leave a review saying how wonderful it is, and tell all your friends. Do a tweet about it, post on Facebook, call into local radio shows and say nothing but the podcast page URL. Come back in a week for another episode of VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast. The full complement of pop culture coverage returns for Sassy's May 1989 issue, PHEW. Following a What Now full of shrug items that read a lot like placeholders (what fell out?!), we're on to a very effusive Watch It, featuring Chances Are in the HIT slot and four-star reviews for Sing (not the one with animated animals) and Heathers. Listen Up vibes with Robyn Hitchcock and Elvis Costello's latest, Spike, but not even resident headbanger Laura could get on board with Skid Row's self-titled album. Matthew Sweet is our One To Watch, and then we close up with a profile of a very buttoned-up Debbie "Deborah" Gibson, and a set visit to a video remake (?) by Breathe. No need to raise your Hands To Heaven and pray for it: our latest episode is right here!QUICK LINKS
