We're plugging along with our Alfred Hitchcock countdown. This week, we are up to number 16, Hitch's second-to-last movie, Frenzy. Perhaps his most R-Rated movie, this one has Hitchcock returning to his London roots with a grisly serial killer thriller. Enjoy!***SPOILER ALERT*** We do talk about this movie in its entirety, so if you plan on watching it, we suggest you watch it before listening to our takes.A Universal Picture. Produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Written by Anthony Shaffer, based on the novel Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square by Arthur La Bern. Starring Jon Finch, Alec McCowen, Barry Foster, Anna Massey, Barbara Leigh-Hunt, Vivien Merchant, Billie Whitelaw, Bernard Cribbins. Cinematography by Gilbert Taylor and Leonard J. South. Music by Ron Goodwin.Ranking: 16 out of 52. Ranking movies is a reductive parlor game. It's also fun. And it's a good way to frame a discussion. We aggregated over 70 ranked lists from critics, fans, and magazines Frenzy got 1,992 ranking points.

"Broadsword calling Danny Boy"Growing up, the only Danny Boy I was familiar with was the song sung by the family at special occasions like funerals. Before I knew it, sure wasn't it the calling card for this Richard Burton classic.A classic on so many levels, firstly the cast. Bringing together Burton and Eastwood was a stroke of genius. Mary Ure was another excellent casting decision alongside Ingrid Pitt. The score by Ron Goodwin so easily recognisable and the action. Coordinated by JOE POWELL with 2nd Unit Directed by YAKIMA CANUTT.Here I discuss the action with stuntwoman GILLIAN ALDAM who doubled Mary Ure and JIM DOWDALL who worked for Bapty, the armourers at the time, but got himself involved on the picture.EnjoyIf you've enjoyed this episode then why not follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using the following linkhttps://linktr.ee/behindthestunts

Frenzy is a 1972 British horror / thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock (aged, at time of production, 71). It is the penultimate feature film of his extensive career. The screenplay, centred on a serial killer in contemporary London and the ex-RAF serviceman he implicates, was written by Anthony Shaffer, based on the 1966 novel Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square by Arthur La Bern, who, in a letter to the Editor of The Times, said he found Hitchcock's production and Shaffer's adaptation of his book “appalling”. The film stars Jon Finch, Alec McCowen, and Barry Foster and features Billie Whitelaw, Anna Massey, Barbara Leigh-Hunt, Bernard Cribbins and Vivien Merchant.Produced the year before, the curse of 1971 continued unabated as, along with poor Peter Cushing wife's demise, Hitchcock's wife and long-time collaborator Alma had a stroke during production. As a result, some sequences were shot without Hitchcock on the set, so he could tend to his wife.Michael Caine was Hitchcock's first choice for the role of Rusk, the main antagonist, but Caine thought the character was disgusting and said "I don't want to be associated with the part." Foster was cast after Hitchcock saw him in Twisted Nerve (which featured Frenzy co-star Billie Whitelaw).Helen Mirren, who later in life played Hitchcock's wife Alma Reville in Hitchcock, met with the director to discuss the role of Babs Milligan. Eventually she rejected the role, and years later said she regretted doing so.Henry Mancini who was originally hired as the film's composer, is quoted as saying,"If the same film was made ten years ago it would've had twice the amount of music in it", After an enigmatic, behind-the-scenes melodrama, where Hitch was reported to have yelled "If I had wanted Bernard Herrmann, I would have hired him!" the composer was fired and replaced by Ron Goodwin. The tag line for this movie was "Hitchcock's Last Masterpiece!" This line would be prophetic, since this is now considered to be the last masterwork Alfred Hitchcock produced in his canon.$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$Just in case anyone has too much money and wants to give a bit to us to help with our hosting n stuff. We're continuing with our trip to Lincolnshire, Bomber County, where we've been focussing on the Avro Lancaster. But in this episode we move right up to date with our visit to RAF Coningsby, one of the RAF's Typhoon bases where our host for the day, Flt Lt Nick Callinswood, gave us incredible access as we explored and sat in an operational Typhoon, and gave all four of us instruction in the Typhoon flight simulator. So we've divided the full flaps episode into two parts as there's so much great stuff: the tour around the aircraft will be part one, or the leading edge slat, the flight sim experience part two, the trailing edge. In the studio, James is interesting again when we ask him a question, and tells us that a Typhoon is faster than a Puma. We also talk about personalised aircraft registrations; and Ron Goodwin's estate benefits nicely from Jez's Typhoon Quick Facts which were so long, the entire Battle of Britain them tune had to be played twice. The ever popular, ever brilliant but testing quiz turns typically niggly, with more needle than you'd find in your grandmother's sewing kit, as Jez and James continue to try and stitch each other up. But we think the clip in the Typhoon hangar at RAF Coningsby will make the pain of listening to all that other nonsense worth your while. Please enjoy. We did.

This includes wonderful classics such as THE BLUE MAX, STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE and PATTON from Jerry Goldsmith, music for the James Bond series, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA by Maurice Jarre and Ron Goodwin's exciting music for WHERE EAGLES DARE and 633 SQUADRON.
