In this enlightening episode of You're Not Broken, Dr. Kelly Casperson sits down with Dr. Steven Gundry, renowned cardiothoracic surgeon turned gut health advocate. Dr. Gundry shares the personal and professional journey that led him from the operating room to the forefront of nutritional science. He breaks down the concept of leaky gut and how it contributes to autoimmune diseases, emphasizing how dietary changes can radically transform health outcomes. Together, Dr. Gundry and Dr. Casperson dive into the deep connection between gut health and mental health, the underrated power of vitamin D, and the hidden dangers lurking in our food supply and personal care products. They also tackle the pharmaceutical industry's influence on medical training and why it's time for a paradigm shift in how we understand disease and wellness. If you've ever wondered how your gut impacts everything from anxiety to skin health—or why your mouthwash might be raising your blood pressure—this episode is for you. Top Takeaways: Dr. Gundry left a thriving surgical career after witnessing remarkable patient healing through nutrition. Leaky gut is a real, measurable condition that drives many autoimmune disorders. Genetics are less impactful than lifestyle, behavior, and environmental factors. Whole food diets can reverse chronic illness and improve quality of life. The gut microbiome plays a central role in immunity, skin health, and brain function. Modern agriculture and personal care products can damage the microbiome. Vitamin D is a foundational nutrient for both gut and mental health. Gut health is deeply tied to emotional states like anxiety and depression. Mouthwash can disrupt the oral microbiome and raise blood pressure. Probiotics and prebiotics are helpful—but only when used with care and intention. We must become more aware of what we eat, apply, and ingest daily. Personalized medicine is the next frontier in optimizing gut health. https://www.instagram.com/drstevengundry/ The Gut Brain Paradox - Releases April 15th https://gundrymd.com/ Sedona in October - only three slots left: https://www.ascendretreats.com/menopause-and-sexual-health-2025 Order my book "You Are Not Broken: Stop "Should-ing" All Over You Sex Life" Listen to my Tedx Talk: Why we need adult sex ed Take my Adult Sex Ed Master Class: My Website Interested in my sexual health and hormone clinic? There's a moment—maybe you've lived it—when the email goes unanswered, the dishwasher remains unloaded, the phone rings but your hand doesn't move. You're not tired. You're not lazy. You're just… stuck. We call it overwhelm. But what if that word is too small? What if what you're feeling is your brain's way of saying, This system is not working for me?In this episode of our Duos series, we bring together two people who have spent their careers listening to the quiet, misunderstood signals of ADHD: Dr. Tamara Rosier, author of Your Brain's Not Broken and You, Me, and Our ADHD Family, and Brooke Schnittman, author of Activate Your ADHD Potential.Tamara talks about emotional flooding—those tidal waves of feeling that hit before a single task is done. Brooke explains how to pause just long enough to choose a different direction. Together, they unpack why ADHD-related overwhelm isn't a sign of failure, but a clue. A trailhead. A door.Because maybe, just maybe, the problem isn't that your brain is broken. Maybe it's that the world was built for a different kind of mind. Maybe the first step isn't pushing through. It's listening.

They talk about how stress could be one of the biggest reasons your fat loss has slowed down or completely stalled. Just because you're doing everything “right”—working out, eating well, tracking your food—doesn't mean your body is ready to let go of fat. If stress is high, your body is likely trying to protect you, not punish you. They explain how stress shows up in different ways: lack of sleep, cravings, bloating, mood swings, and even feeling wired at night and tired in the morning. Chase and Chris also talk about how people can get used to being under constant stress and not even realize how much it's affecting them. They share client examples and give lots of real-life stories to help you connect the dots in your own life. This episode is all about building awareness. In episode 311 of the You're Not Broken podcast, Kelly Casperson, MD, hosts Marcella Hill and her husband to discuss their journey through hormonal changes and their impact on their relationship. They explore the challenges of libido loss, the role of therapy, and the transformative effects of testosterone therapy. The conversation highlights the importance of understanding hormonal health in relationships and the awakening of self-awareness that comes with it. I n this conversation, Marcella Hill and Dr. Kelly Casperson explore the complexities of libido, sexual shame, and the transformative power of hormones in midlife relationships. They discuss the importance of self-discovery, emotional honesty, and the need for patience in navigating personal and relational growth. The dialogue emphasizes that pleasure and desire are not solely for others but are essential for individual fulfillment and connection. Takeaways The relationship was initially strong but faced challenges due to hormonal changes. Libido loss can lead to feelings of anxiety and disconnection in relationships. Therapy can help with communication but may not directly address libido issues. Medical interventions, like hormone therapy, can significantly impact well-being. Testosterone therapy revitalized Marcella's energy and libido, transforming her relationship. Awakening to a new self can create challenges in long-term relationships. Couples can navigate hormonal changes together for better understanding and support. Increased awareness of hormonal health can improve communication and intimacy. Hormones play a crucial role in mental health and overall well-being. Understanding the effects of hormones can lead to proactive health measures. Women often feel shame about their sexual desires. Listening to uncomfortable content can help challenge sexual shame. Orgasm is not just a sexual act; it's about personal joy and passion. Women deserve to feel turned on for their own pleasure, not just for others. Men's enjoyment in relationships often comes from seeing their partner's pleasure. Communication about sexual needs is crucial for both partners. Exploring sexuality can enhance intimacy and connection in relationships. Emotional honesty leads to a more expansive and fulfilling relationship. Hormone therapy can reignite passion and feelings in midlife. Learning to feel emotions is essential for personal growth and connection. https://marcellahill.com/ https://www.instagram.com/beingmarcellahill https://www.wakeherup.co/welcome Sedona in October - only three slots left: https://www.ascendretreats.com/menopause-and-sexual-health-2025 Order my book "You Are Not Broken: Stop "Should-ing" All Over You Sex Life" Listen to my Tedx Talk: Why we need adult sex ed Take my Adult Sex Ed Master Class: My Website Interested in my sexual health and hormone clinic?   In the early days of LifeWork Systems, we prioritized working with children, teens and young adults, delivering massive multi-year, multi-school, award-winning school reform projects to them and their parents, teachers, school principals and staff, often at some of the most at-risk St. Louis schools. Our goal was to help them become responsible, internally motivated, and emotionally intelligent so they could  thrive now and into the future. We continue to prioritize this work as one part of our business model, with interest today for such reform in schools in the UK, Europe, New Zealand, and other parts of the US. That's because young people are our future. They are the ones to powerfully usher in evolutionary change and win/win ways of operating our world so desperately needs.    This is why I'm so excited to interview Holly Couch and J.P. Watson, who bring over 30 years of collective experience working with young adults. Together, they have distilled the best of mindfulness, neuroscience, emotional intelligence, motivation, and confidence-building into a life-changing program. These are the skills every young person needs—not just to succeed but to flourish in life. I agree with them. Significant and lasting change is best delivered to those who are young so they don't have to undo so much status quo conditioning and are instead well-prepared to face the rapidly changing future.   What we discuss in this interview may include:   1. What is the story of your journey and your creation of your Uncommon Education Company?   2. What changes do you want to bring to the world by unlocking the potential within young people?   3. Why is it important to become uncommon in how people of all ages use their power to influence needed change in the world?   4. How does your work with “You're Not Broken” support the best in the teens and young adults you serve?   5. What are some of the crucial mindset shifts and skills needed to create resilience and expanded service in young people?   6. What is the significance of the Oak Tree in defining your vital work with young people?   Watch Here: https://www.transformationtalkradio.com/watch.html

In episode 301 of the You're Not Broken podcast, Dr. Kelly Casperson discusses 15 things she wishes would change in women's health, focusing on hormonal health, the healthcare system, sexual health, and education. She emphasizes the importance of choice regarding hormone therapy after breast cancer, the need for better sex education, and the challenges posed by the current healthcare system. Dr. Casperson also shares her aspirations for future clinics and the importance of addressing orgasmic inequality and healthcare costs. Takeaways Hormones after breast cancer should be a choice. There is a need for FDA-approved female-dosed testosterone products. Healthcare costs are a significant barrier to accessing care. Sex education in the U.S. is inadequate and needs reform. Orgasmic inequality is prevalent, particularly in heterosexual relationships. Vaginal estrogen is safe and should not carry a cancer warning. Healthcare providers need better work-life balance to prevent burnout. Education is key to improving sexual health and understanding. The healthcare system should prioritize patient care over profits. Future clinics are needed to support women's health and hormonal optimization. EPISODE THREE HUNDRED Y'ALL!!! In this episode of the You're Not Broken podcast, Dr. Kelly Casperson celebrates the milestone of 300 episodes by sharing key insights on women's health, including the importance of vaginal estrogen, testosterone, and the realities of menopause. She emphasizes the need for longer patient visits and the significance of understanding the nuances of healthcare. Additionally, she discusses upcoming events and retreats focused on women's health education. Takeaways Vaginal estrogen is safe and effective for postmenopausal women. Testosterone is present in both men and women, and is crucial for health. Short medical visits hinder effective healthcare delivery. Menopause is a natural process, and suffering through it is not necessary. Alcohol consumption is linked to several types of cancer. Osteoporosis can be improved with the right interventions. Estrogen does not inherently cause cancer; it can support health. Regular exercise is essential for overall health and well-being. Understanding the difference between correlation and causation is vital in healthcare. The myth of 'use it or lose it' regarding vaginal health is misleading. In this episode of the You're Not Broken podcast, Dr. Kelly Casperson and Dr. Corinne Menn discuss the recent paper by Sasha Taylor and Susan Davis that revisits the recommendations for initiating menopausal hormone therapy. They explore the arbitrary nature of age cutoffs for hormone therapy, the timing hypothesis, and the implications of the Women's Health Initiative data. The conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding the risks and benefits of hormone therapy, particularly for women over 60, and addresses common misconceptions surrounding hormone therapy and its effects on bone health and dementia. The episode concludes with a call to action for women to advocate for their health and seek appropriate hormone therapy. Takeaways Millions of women feel they have been overlooked in hormone therapy discussions. The age cutoffs for hormone therapy initiation are arbitrary and not based on solid evidence. The timing hypothesis suggests that starting hormone therapy earlier can lead to better health outcomes. The Women's Health Initiative data is often misinterpreted and does not reflect the current understanding of hormone therapy. Hormone therapy can provide long-term benefits for bone health and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Many women experience symptoms beyond hot flashes that can persist for years after menopause. The risks associated with hormone therapy are often overstated and misunderstood. Women over 60 should not be denied hormone therapy based solely on age or years since menopause. Dementia risk associated with hormone therapy is not as significant as previously thought, especially with proper medication choices. Women need to advocate for their health and seek out hormone therapy options that are safe and effective. Taylor S, Davis SR. Is it time to revisit the recommendations for initiation of menopausal hormone therapy? Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol. 2024 Oct 14:S2213-8587(24)00270-5. doi: 10.1016/S2213-8587(24)00270-5. Why do we get stuck in life and how do trauma and our mental health narratives play into that? In this thought-provoking conversation with neuropsychotherapist, Britt Frank, we explore the nuances of trauma, mental health labels, and the personal responsibility often overlooked in modern therapeutic discussions. Britt shares insights from her own experiences, diving deep into how trauma is often misunderstood or misdiagnosed, and how this affects our ability to heal and grow. EP20 - You're Not Broken, Stop Fixing Yourself   The key to true personal growth isn't fixing your flaws, but embracing them as part of your wholeness. Hilary dives into this idea, challenging the widespread obsession with constant self-improvement. Do we really need to fix every perceived flaw, or is there a better path? In this episode, she advocates for a radical shift—moving away from the relentless pursuit of perfection and embracing unconditional self-love and acceptance.   Episode Highlights: Hilary explores the exhausting cycle of self-improvement, where individuals continuously question “What is wrong with me?” and seek ways to fix themselves. Hear the powerful story of a client who found freedom by letting go of the need for self-fixing, allowing herself to enjoy life without the burden of constant self-criticism. Delve into the concept of shame and how it can prevent true self-expression and authentic connections with others. Hilary emphasizes embracing both the light and dark parts of oneself as essential to forming a complete and authentic identity. Discover how viewing imperfections as opportunities for growth, rather than flaws to be fixed, leads to a more fulfilling journey towards wholeness.   Episode Breakdown: [00:00] The Concept of Constantly Working on Oneself and Seeking Self-Improvement [02:06] Client Story [03:09] Desire for Acceptance [06:28] The Light and Dark Parts of Ourselves [07:10] Truths to Accept [14:40] Integration and Self-Love    Listener Takeaways: Learn why self-acceptance and unconditional love are the foundations for true personal growth and fulfillment. They also highlight the role of hormones in women's health, particularly during perimenopause. They discuss the benefits of hormone therapy for symptom management and prevention of conditions like Alzheimer's disease. They address common myths and misconceptions about hormones and provide insights into the use of progesterone and birth control options for perimenopausal women. In this part of the conversation, Eve and Kelly discuss the dosing and cycling of hormones during perimenopause and menopause. They talk about the variability in dosing and the benefits of cycling hormones. They also touch on the use of progesterone and estradiol in hormone therapy and the importance of finding the right doses for each individual. They discuss the role of DHEA in perimenopause and the potential benefits of supplementing with it. They also emphasize the importance of comprehensive health assessments, including lab work, DEXA scans, coronary calcium scores, and VO2 max testing, to assess cardiovascular risk and overall health. Takeaways The medical system needs to shift from disease management to wellness and prevention. Hormone therapy can be beneficial for symptom management and prevention of conditions like Alzheimer's disease. Progesterone is an important hormone during perimenopause and can help alleviate symptoms. There are various birth control options available for perimenopausal women. Regular monitoring and individualized treatment are key in hormone therapy. Dosing and cycling of hormones during perimenopause and menopause can vary based on individual needs and symptoms. Progesterone is used to protect the uterus and is typically dosed at 100 milligrams for uterine protection during continuous hormone therapy. Cycling hormones can be beneficial for some women, but it may be challenging to track and can be discontinued if it causes discomfort. DHEA supplementation may be helpful for increasing testosterone levels and improving symptoms of low testosterone. Comprehensive health assessments, including lab work, DEXA scans, coronary calcium scores, and VO2 max testing, are important for assessing cardiovascular risk and overall health during perimenopause and beyond. https://www.instagram.com/drevehenry/ Special thanks to our sponsor, SOLV! 264. Cervical Cancer, Birth Control, Vulvar Pain, Gaslighting with Dr. Andrew Goldstein Dr. Goldstein was previously on Episodes 68 and 69! Go check out the back episodes. Dr. Goldstein is a gynecologist and is a past president of ISSWSH. He is a top world expert in vulvar pain and is actively involved in research and has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters on female sexual dysfunction, sexual pain disorders, lichen sclerosis, lichen simplex chronicus, vulvodynia, and vulvar vestibulitis syndrome (vestibulodynia). Dr. Goldstein has a strong commitment to global medicine and is probably still jet lagged from his recent trip to Cambodia. In this episode of the You're Not Broken podcast, Dr. Andrew Goldstein discusses various topics related to women's health, including cervical cancer screening and prevention, the global impact of cervical cancer, dispelling myths about HPV vaccination, his book 'When Sex Hurts,' abstracts presented at Isswsh, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and pelvic pain, mast cell activation syndrome and vulvar pain, and the upcoming Vulvodynia Therapeutics Research Summit. The conversation covers the need for funding and collaboration in vulvodynia research, the potential of chemical vestibulotomy as a treatment, the impact of birth control on vulvar issues, the importance of pain control for procedures, and the issue of gaslighting and believing women's pain. Takeaways Cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide, particularly in resource-poor countries where screening is lacking. Vaccination against HPV can prevent cervical cancer and other related cancers, but there is a need to increase vaccination rates globally. Misconceptions about HPV vaccination leading to increased sexual activity are unfounded, and vaccination is crucial for preventing HPV-related diseases. Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and mast cell activation syndrome are emerging as significant contributors to vulvar and pelvic pain, and further research is needed to develop effective treatments. The Vulvodynia Therapeutics Research Summit aims to bring together experts to explore novel treatments for vulvodynia and improve patient outcomes. Funding and collaboration are crucial for advancing research on vulvodynia. Chemical vestibulotomy shows promise as a treatment for neuroproliferative vestibulodynia. Birth control can have an impact on vulvar issues, and it is important for healthcare providers to discuss potential side effects with patients. Pain control should be prioritized during procedures, such as IUD insertion. Women's pain needs to be believed and relieved, and gaslighting should be addressed in healthcare settings. https://vulvodynia.com/ https://www.gyncancer.org/ Solv Wellness To learn more about Solv Wellness and their products for female pelvic health, visit solvwellness.com for 30% off your first purchase of any product.
