The dynamic role of the Assistant is at the beating heart of every organisation. Often referred to as the unsung heroes, they hold the reputation of the person in the office who subtly gets things done. EAs and PAs need to be highly efficient, a step ahead of everyone else (including the person they support) and attuned to the needs of their Executive. Executive PA Summit, September 7th and 8th While the focus of the role revolves around saving time, energy and headspace for the person(s) they support, they have increasingly become involved in projects and tasks outside the usual remit of what an Assistant is normally responsible for. The past number of years have thrown up a number of challenges for the profession – losing out on crucial face-to-face time with their Executive to get answers and keep all the moving parts moving; co-ordinating staff meetings when half the team are hybrid or remote working, and on a more personal level coping with feelings of isolation considering the role sits as an intermediary between the boss and the rest of the team. When staff numbers were reduced and budgets cut, very often tasks and projects would land on the PA's desks, even more so than usual – as there was seemingly nobody else to take them on. This is not necessarily a bad thing according to Adam Fidler, keynote speaker at this year's Executive PA Summit, who says that Assistants that take the lead on company-wide initiatives – broadening their own responsibilities and managerial astuteness – have demonstrated added value to their organisation. Adam who is a renowned international Executive Assistant Coach and trainer, notes that in the new work environment where employee contribution is monitored more and more closely, the EA who brings true value to the organisation is the one who works with the boss, and not for them. The rapid acceleration of technology to enable organisations to work more effectively and efficiently in the new work environment has also created unique opportunities for EAs , PAs and professionals working in business support. Advances mean they can now outsource many previously time-consuming activities, and thereby put more focus and energy on enhancing leadership effectiveness. Simon Cocking, Editor in Chief of Irish Tech News will deliver a talk on September 7th on advances in technology and what they mean for the Support role now and into the future, so delegates can ensure they are working in the most effective way possible with the person(s) they support. Simon will also host a workshop on September 8th on embracing the evolution of technology and the benefits it can bring to delivering services efficiently and intuitively. Use Code TECHEA20 for 20% off the Executive PA Summit. Full details can be found by visiting www.ExecutivePAForum.com With a rise in the use of productivity tools, collaboration and team effectiveness software, EAs and PAs are often one of the first to trial these tools and may even be responsible for managing their rollout in an organisation. Embracing challenges is a key theme of the Summit and Derek Kearney, senior EA at Linked In, will share his journey of training in MMA to push himself out of his comfort zone – an experience which has influenced and accelerated his career. Other themes and topics of the 2 day conference include: Performance improvement as your opportunity for growth in the support role from former EA and FIFA referee Paula Brady Building Your Ambition with Confidence as an EA or PA with Executive Coach Fiona Flynn Careers Clinic – the most desirable skills in 2022/2023 for EAs, PAs, Office & Business Support professionals – with Siobhan Kelly, Career Consultant Understanding Human Performance – The 6 Universal Human Needs and Success Patterns that every Smart EA should know, with Coach Therese Phipps Using Conflict for Positive Results, Innovation & Growth as an EA or PA with Eileen Blishen, Mediator and Conflict Resolution Officer Offering delegates the option t...

And I think we only become richer for doing that."Simon's colourful life has included summers busking and fire juggling in Spain, playing with Samba bands in Dublin and at festivals all over Ireland. In Madrid, he taught English as a foreign language. This is only a taster of what Simon talks about in this interview. As Simon says about special time spent in Honduras: “Every time you work with others the final outcome is the result of a coalition of inputs, energies, and ideas on the way things should be done. The mosaics were a great way to make an exchange, a link between my sponsoring organisation, City Artsquad, who kindly allowed me the time to go to Honduras, the local community groups who now have their first-ever mosaics on Utila, and me, the artist who learnt and saw so many things from the local people – including that my name in Utilan meant, yes man, no problem, chill out.”Podcast website:https://creativeplacesandfaces.com/Credits:Host: Jackie De BurcaSound engineer: Steve RandallSponsor Series 2:Property Insurance Centre

Persons of Interest, Timestamped in Blockchain and Cryptocurrecy, Vol 1 2020 is written by award winning journalist Jillian Godsil. It follows the paths of 42 prominent people working in the sector; some are very high profile and some less so, but they all share a passion for blockchain and cryptocurrency. Jillian is a fintech journalist with more than 30 years international experience across the world. For the past three years Jillian travelled from her rural village in Ireland to chair blockchain conferences across the world – from Dubai, Kiev, Muscat, Columbo, New York, Austen, Cape Town, Amsterdam, Vienna, London and Dublin. Since COVID, this all happens virtually. In her travels Jillian was privileged to meet with some of the inspiring founders, gurus, experts, thinkers and in some case chancers from this dynamic world; the energy is boundless, the optimism endless and the pace relentless. “I co-founded one news site, Blockleaders.io, where I began to write long form. I also wrote frequently for Irish Tech News under the editorship of Simon Cocking where I was given a lot of freedom. And then more recently I joined the genesis group of writers in Cryptowriter on the new VOICE platform where I found my tribe,” she says. “Once I joined the Cryptowriter team began writing in earnest again. I sought out people that interested me, that were making a difference and were coming up with new products, lives, and dreams. It’s like going down a rabbit hole of infinite possibilities.” This book is for anyone interested in this sector, focusing on the saucy, thoughtful, quirky, energized, crazy, intelligent, and inspiring players in the space. From world Presidents to Models on OnlyFans – this line-up could only be found in the weird and whacky world of blockchain and cryptocurrency. Andreas Antonopoulos – ‘We must be patient’ Tim Drapers’ eyebrows make a special appearance John McAfee ‘On his tombstone – Lover, Adventurer and Poet – but not yet.’ Vít Jedlika ‘Who has thought about founding a country?’ Jon Noorlander ‘Disturbingly Satisfying Digital Art’ Samson Williams ‘Nothing in Space is Free’ The artwork will be provided by international digital artist and photographer- Lars Kommienzuspadt; author and inventor of Dark Pinup. The cover will be revealed on December 15th 2020. In all, there are 42 interviews in this collection with a foreword by Sonic Capital CEO and ex Bitcoin.com CEO Stefan Rust, a short history of money by Marc Coleman, IBEC heavyweight and economist, and an afterword by Sean Ballent, co founder of Cryptowriters and editor to this book. Dip in, dip out – and find out what makes the Persons of Interest in this exciting world tick. Jillian is co-founder of Blockleaders.io which is currently going under a major financial reinvigoration under the auspices of CoinMetro and Kevin Murcho. The book was laid out and designed by a top designer Davino from the newly launched freelancer site AnyTask.com. For more information, please contact Jillian on Linkedin To purchase a pre sale copy of the book for 79p visit the website here (adjust for country of purchase). Also, if tech is not your thing, then perhaps horses are. A couple of years ago (2016) Jillian ran a fund raiser to buy a field for her daughter’s two rescue horses – didn’t work then – but maybe it might now. All profits from the sale of the book are going towards Toby and Deano. See the history here. Published by Cryptowriter More about Irish Tech News and Business Showcase here. How can we innovate and connect to help make our island economies more sustainable in a post-COVID World? That’s the key question being asked at a free Irish webinar on Wednesday 2nd September from 10 am to 12 pm. The webinar is Ireland’s Virtual Hub event for the 2nd global Virtual Island Summit (VIS), which runs from 7th to 13th September online, involving over 100 island communities. Virtual Island Summit: Creating a sustainable future “Ireland is an island economy with over a dozen populated offshore islands,” says Dr Noirín Burke, of the National Aquarium of Ireland and Irish Ocean Literacy Network, who’s a VIS Ambassador to Ireland. “Islanders work hard to maintain their economies, stay connected and create a sustainable future, something that has been extra challenging this year with Covid-19,” says Dr Burke. Her fellow VIS Ambassador, ex BBC and Irish Times journalist, Trish Hegarty of Inis Communications, says this free online event will explore how islands connect “to each other, to the mainland and to other islands across Europe and the world.” The event is being run by the two VIS Ambassadors in collaboration with Comhdháil Oileáin na hÉireann, which represents offshore islanders. Trish says the participants will get to hear from islanders working in enterprise, economic and community development, and other experts working with island communities in areas like energy, sustainability, technology, and connectivity. “We’ll also have Q&A’s and breakout sessions, so everyone gets a chance to discuss how we can connect better in the future, both locally and globally.” Rhoda Twombly of Comhdháil Oileáin na hÉireann says her members are more than used to connecting online because of their physical distance and separation from the mainland. “But in this time of social distancing and such an uncertain future, it’s more important than ever to strengthen our national and global connections to learn from each other’s experiences.” Virtual Island Summit: Key contributors Contributors to the event include: Forbes Top 30 under 30 innovators, James Ellsmoor, the founder of VIS; Offshore islanders Rhoda Twombly and John Walsh of Comhdháil Oileáin na hÉireann (Irish Islands Federation) The European Small Islands Federation ESIN; Cathy Ní Ghóill, Manager of Comharchumann Forbartha Arann, Máirtín Ó Méalóid, manager of Cape Clear Island Cooperative, Vice Chair of Comhdháil Oileáin na hÉireann; UCC researcher Dr. Sarah Robinson, who’s working with island communities on Bere, Sherkin and Cape Clear as they establish community radio; Simon Cocking, Chief Editor of Irish Tech News; Brendan Smith, Education and Public Engagement Officer at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics; Aine Ryan, an award-winning journalist based in Westport, County Mayo, interested in rural issues & peripheral communities. If books are food for the soul – bookstores and libraries are great halls for feast. Reading not only helps us gain new perspectives and expand our horizon, it also helps us take a break from our ever-connected digital lives – where information is constantly being pushed to us. Books allow us the luxury of immersing ourselves in moments that go as far as our minds would wander – and travel abroad without the physical burden of a voyage. As J.K. Rowling said: “If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.” This week, we have the pleasure of hosting Simon Cocking from Irish Tech News. Theodora Lau and Arun Krishnakumar discuss several aspects of the publication and Simon's favourite books in this episode. Simon commands a global following within the Blockchain industry, and is considered one of the top advisers in this space. He also had a few thoughts on what went wrong with the industry, and what needs to be done to get it back on track.Simon shares his journeys at the Irish tech news, effects of Brexit on the Irish tech community, and the rise of emergence markets and its effect on readership at Irish tech news. We hope that you will enjoy our conversations with book lovers and accomplished authors on FinTech, Innovation, Longevity, Technology, and more. Exmo is an international cryptocurrency exchange based in UK and Russia that has seen an explosion of users over the last year, from 400,000 to over 1 million. This is in part due to the fruition of blockchain technology, which has made possible the use cases and products that were not possible before. Exmo is similar to many cryptocurrencyexchanges, but Simon notes that the exchanges that will thrive are those that provide excellent customer experiences, particularly when it comes to being proactive about customer problems and questions. In order to do this, Exmo provides 24/7 customer service, with staggered staff workdays to accommodate their users both Eastern and Western Europe, as well as in the US. Simon discusses his hopes for new regulations that are being announced almost daily around the world, primarily the ability to remove some of the scams that are currently operating, which in turn will attract institutional money. Simon also discusses how interested individuals can learn more about the crypto and blockchain spaces, including good resources, and gives a preview of his panel topics at the Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Blockchain Superconference in Dallas Texas, February 16-18.
