“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Psalm‬ ‭40‬:‭2‬   Life is full of “pits” - some self-imposed, some at the hands of others, and some at the expense of living in a fallen world.  But, be encouraged! Today's storyteller is going to remind you of God's deepest desire - to take you out of that “pit” and set your feet on solid, secure, and safe ground.   Sarah Robinson, from our Fairhope, Alabama community, paints a vivid picture of her life story as she shares her (and her family's) struggles with alcoholism and loss. The journey she takes you on will assure you of the pursuing love of your Heavenly Father who specializes in the grace-filled gifts of redemption and restoration.   IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: - God is constantly speaking to you through people, events, and life circumstances. - Hope has two sisters - anger and courage… anger in the way things are and courage that they       don't have to stay that way. - Pursue godly things, and you will leave a legacy! In this episode I am talking to Lucy H Pearce, the author of the amazingly powerful book Burning Woman. I still feel my soul shimmer thinking back to this meaningful conversation!Burning Woman is a breath-taking and controversial woman's journey through history — personal and cultural — on a quest to find and free her own power. And so is this episode a wake-up call to the Burning Woman within you, a reminder. We live in burning times and they call for Burning Women. This is our time to come out of the shadows and burn brightly. The Soft Rebellion is my expression of Burning Woman and I hope that this conversation inspires and encourages you to bring your version of Burning Woman into your life too, uncover her voice and no longer let your fears take your power. Lucy H. Pearce is the author of multiple life-changing non-fiction books, including Nautilus Award silver winners Medicine Woman, Burning Woman, and Creatrix. Her newest books is Crow Moon: reclaiming the wisdom of the dark woods and The Kitchen Witch Companion, which she illustrated and co-authored with Sarah Robinson. Her writing focuses on women's healing through archetypal psychology, embodiment, historical awareness and creativity. An award-winning graduate in History of Ideas with English Literature from Kingston University, and a PGCE from Cambridge University, Lucy founded Womancraft Publishing, creating paradigm-shifting books by women for women, in 2014. She is the host of the Creative Magic podcast, where she interviews contemporary creative women. The mother of three children, she lives in East Cork, Ireland. In this conversation we explored:- How to connect with the source of creativity. We explored how the writing process looks for both of us and what we need to let the writing pour out of us. Lucy shared how writing feels like a journey through spaces which are portals for voices coming through her.- Why we must connect with our sensual body if we want to reclaim our feminine fire and Burning Woman. Before Burning Woman safes the world, she has to save herself, which means to recognise her subconscious desires so that the fire within becomes the fire without and a guiding light for the world! - How fear invites us to work with our energy wisely. Rather than denying or resisting it, we can transmute fear, meaning to express it and give a voice to what is ruling us and to what has never been expressed.- How by transmuting the energy of fear, we free the power within it. Fear, Lucy shared, is trapped energy turned against us and fear asks for inquiry, otherwise we back off and keep serving patriarchy. What does magic and witchcraft mean to you? And how much of it do you allow there to be in your life? The witch, an ancient archetype, is there in all of us, waiting to be awakened and its powers to be used wisely. The witch is the one who gets things done, magically, meaning in flow whilst she is harvesting the ocean of possibilities. And so did my today's guest Sarah Robinson get a lot done being the author of a whole world of magical books! Together we explored why it is so powerful to invite fairytale, stories and the old ancient myth into our lives - as they help us to remember our true power and call out of us voices, ideas, visions and dreams which otherwise stay hidden. This conversation is for you if you are ready for a deep dive into how you can dive into the world of magic and witchcraft and how you can bring it into your daily life - and yoga practice! Sarah Robinson is a yoga teacher and author based in Bath, UK (once named after a goddess: the ancient Roman town of Aquae Sulis). Her background is in science; she holds an MSc Psychology & Neuroscience and has studied at Bath, Exeter and Harvard University. She loves weaving her love of all things mythic, magic and Goddess - and is passionate about creating work that inspires and transforms. Through yoga, meditation and ritual she aims to help everyone connect with their own unique magic and inner power. In this conversation we talked about:- Sarah's so inspiring story and how she dared to move on in moments when “it wasn't feeling magic”! And yes, this conversation is a wonderful powertalk and invitation for all of us to do the same, reclaim your magic, sisters! - What magic means to Sarah and how we can bring more of it into our lives. We talked about how to meet those stuck moments along our creative journeys and how to move through them. Sarah shared some amazing practices and tools with us!- Fairytale, folklore, ancient myths and goddesses. Fairytales speak to us in a very deep way, awakening older parts of our brain and reflect hidden voices. You will hear how connecting with the story of the goddess means to connect to ourselves, how she is a metaphor for possibility and nurtures us deeply. - How to approach yoga to connect with our special powers and inner magic! Throughout the 73-minute runtime, Life of Belle is a grand effing mind spank. It has you looking in the corners of the frame looking for someone or maybe something moving around. The last half hour of this movie is where things start to go sideways; It turns up the creepy factor to a thousand and it's a masterpiece for the macabre! Sarah and I discussed how it was for her and her children to prepare for their roles in the movie, seeing being a family affair, it seems that the children were just fine afterwards. Hopefully, the movie didn't leave a traumatic mark on their lives. However, their performance overall as astounding and paramount. Sarah also described the phases of her character; how she started with the medication and then slowly progressed into something more sinister and supernatural in which I think may have confused the audience because I was confused at first as well. But I do like how she explained it in accordance with the script and directing. Comparing this movie; it feels like a combination of “Quarantine”, “Poltergeist” and “Paranormal Activity” all wrapped up into one movie but with a dark entity with a purpose. Sarah also revealed there may be a sequel explaining the entity we see at the end, sort of an origin story. Overall, this movie is nothing short of being impressive and it's quite evident that the actors, Sarah, Zachary, and Syrenne are very talented, and I hope to see them in a lot more movies. And if this movie doesn't win an award, I will be disappointed with found footage community; these actors definitely deserve something for their genuine talent and on-screen performance. Life of Belle is now streaming for free on Tubi. Also, you can follow and support Sarah and her family on Facebook as well and stay up to date with her current movies and those she will be working on in the future. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/southjerseyhorror/message

The mother of three children, she lives in East Cork, Ireland   In this episode we explore how to reclaim the magic in our sensitivity - and in particular, neurodivergence.  We dive into what “neurodivergence” is, and means, and what signs might help sensitive souls illuminate that they are neuro-diverse - as well as why and how women who resonate with this label must meet their sensitive needs, rather than try to mask and fit into a culture that doesn't suit them.  Most importantly, we shared our important worldview on how neurodivergence can actually be a gift - and especially a super-power that allows magical women to be powerful healers, teachers and guides.   What You'll Learn from this Episode:   Highly sensitive women are often also ‘neurodivergent' - a word which is commonly understood by labels such as autism, ADHD or things like dyslexia or dyscalculia - and mean that we have different from ‘typical' brains Neurodivergence (ND) can show up in lots of different ways, but the main way it can present itself is having a sensitive nervous system that is over-primed - as well as feeling burned out, touched out and overwhelmed by our senses (we have a deep sensitivity to noise, scents, clothes on our skin, lights, electricity, and other things) The label of neurodivergence can be really helpful in aiding us to see that there's actually nothing wrong with us as a sensitive soul - and that we are just wired differently, and struggling to fit into a world that wasn't built for us; owning it this way can help us learn to navigate the world in an aligned way As sensitive women, and ND women, we must learn to honour and meet our own needs, so that we aren't constantly overwhelmed and our nervous systems don't reach meltdown.  As we do meet our needs, we can reclaim the gifts in our sensitivity And there are many gifts - creativity, brilliant minds, the capacity to spot patterns, entrepreneurial skills, deep passion for things, high empathy and sensitivity to other worlds (in other words, all the ‘clairs' - e.g. clairvoyance), a capacity for lucid dreaming, a high importance for truthful expression, hyper-focus and a real affinity with nature It is common for these gifts to make sensitive souls excellent ‘healers' - as long as we can reclaim the gifts in our sensitivity.   Resources and Things that We Spoke About:   Social: Tiktok - @archetypalapothecary Instagram - @iamnicolebarton Instagram - @archetypalapothecary You Tube - https://www.youtube.com/@secretwitchsociety Join our Secret Witch Society: www.facebook.com/groups/secretwitch  Next Crucible:  Website: www.nicolebarton.co.uk  Elain Aron - The Highly Sensitive Person - https://hsperson.com/books www.lucyhpearce.com - Lucy's website  www.womancraftpublishing.com  - her newest books are Crow Moon: reclaiming the wisdom of the dark woods and The Kitchen Witch Companion, which she illustrated and co-authored with Sarah Robinson.  I am a Unicorn Blog - https://dreamingaloud.net/2019/02/i-am-a-unicorn/    Thank you for listening, we'd love to know what comes alive for you in this week's episode, so please let us know.   If you loved it, there's a fresh episode every other week - subscribe so you don't miss it!   Thank you,   Nicole and Team Secret Witch xox

There was such a profusion of demand and complexity, so many to-do lists, the unceasing compulsion to accomplish something. When I read that the Chinese pictograph for busyness is ‘heart-killing,' I felt the truth of that in my bones. In the midst of this struggle to care for my soul, I read Wordsworth's poem, ‘The Prelude,' in which he writes about ‘spots of time' that nourish and repair the soul. I believe he was referring to brief, concentrated moments—little epiphanies—that inflame us with a sense of the holy. I began to search for spots of time here and there in my day. I found them by stopping. Just stopping....I began to ‘come away' to a nook somewhere in the house or the yard where I would spend five minutes or less sitting still and receding into the quiet core of myself...caring for my soul turned out to be simply that—spots of time in which to be.” —Sue Monk Kidd, Firstlight This brief audio is about simple magic. I hope you find it interesting and supportive! (Note: I accidentally say "summer equinox" at one point instead of "summer solstice.") I also wanted to share this quote from Yoga for Witches, which I reviewed here.   “In yoga class, I often remind my students that we can be peaceful and powerful, calm yet strong—all in the same breath. I think there is a peace to be found in the acceptance of all of these contradictory powers within us. Finding a way to stand within this unknown and unknowable. We are gloriously complex and contradictory in a world that loves boxes, snap judgments and 100% certainty. People may find this inability to define you uncomfortable, but this is a reminder that you do not owe anyone an explanation. Your rich inner world needn't mean anything to anyone but yourself. A person can be called a witch for merely knowing, and for owning her knowledge. And to some, for strange reasons that may include fear, power, jealousy, a woman who ‘knows' is dangerous indeed...Communicating *I am knowledgeable, powerful, and I can make choices about how I use these strengths...can be a real challenge to the status quo!”   —Sarah Robinson, Yoga for Witches (p. 93) May you feel centeredin your place of power.May you know youhave this wholenessto draw upon when needed.May you remember that sometimesthe taste of teais truly what you need.Much love, Molly

Note: This audio was originally recorded in the fall of 2020 for our Goddess Magic community on Patreon. “Yoga (and indeed witchcraft) invites us to peel away the layers of life and discover: Who are we when we are not afraid? When we are not stressed? When we are not distracted by concerns of emails, schedules, timetables...? Of course, these layers build up and that's okay, this is part of being human. But take some time as often as you can to peel away, step out of your layers and reconnect to your essence, energy, magic: your body, breath, and heart.”   —Sarah Robinson, Yoga for Witches (p. 77)  This audio explores the theme of JOY and also rest. I did want to note that I see the irony in how as I was discussing rest, I started to undermine my own self by explaining that I'm not just sitting on the deck "doing nothing," I'm still doing XYZ. I realized it as soon as I stopped the recording and wanted to make sure to acknowledge that! This resistance to rest instead of rest as resistance is very baked in! Resources mentioned: The Nap Ministry  Tracee Stanley, Radiant Rest Karen Brody, Daring to Rest One Commune online class platform (Tracee's Deep Relaxation class link) Inner Field Trip (Leesa Renee Hall) I also made set of 24 different Joy and Rest cards to accompany the audio. The full set is available on our Patreon and a sample set is available for free to all. Feel free to use these to create a deck for yourself or to glue into journals or onto other projects. :)  May you grant yourselfendless moments of joyand may you delightin the revolutionary actof noticing. She is a long-time community educator and activist, bringing almost 20 years of experience with nonprofit organizations in human services.  Jeanette believes it is essential that all neighborhoods and families in Western New York benefit from our region's revitalization and that everyone has a right to healthy, affordable and accessible food. Trigger Warning: This episode heavily centers on discussions of suicide, depression, and anxiety. Sarah Robinson knows what it feels like to want to die. And that's exactly what inspired her to write the blog post that changed her life: I love Jesus, but I want to die. The post went viral and later turned into Sarah's book of the same name, making her one of today's leading voices on depression and suicide in the Christian community. On this last episode of Suicide Prevention month, Lathan sits down with Sarah as she shares her story. Sarah and Lathan have a mutual friend in the late Steve Austin, and together they talk about his life, how the church can act more like Jesus when it comes to suicide, being a friend to those struggling, and how to be strategic about self-care, especially as a parent. This has been a powerful month of conversations from people who have been on the front lines of the fight against suicide—make sure to give Sarah's episode a listen. Episode Timeline: [0:34] The story behind I Love Jesus, But I Want To Die [6:05] Clearing the Confusion: Suicide is selfish [10:51] Sarah's friendship with Steve Austin [16:28] The suicide process [21:30] How the church can act more like Jesus when it comes to suicide [27:54] Sarah's word for the person who feels like their pain isn't enough [37:10] Being a friend to those struggling with suicide [48:38] Raising a child in today's world and being strategic about self care [56:36] Sarah's Hope Holler Resources Mentioned: I Love Jesus, But I Want To Die: Finding hope in the darkness of depression I Love Jesus, but I Want to Die blog post Social: Connect with Sarah on her website, BeautifulBetween.com

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and with that in mind Lathan sets the table for this month's episodes of TOSOTC podcast. Suicide is a heavy reality, and one, tragically, many of us can relate to. Lathan's good friend, the late Steve Austin died by suicide last summer, and it's with his loss in mind that Lathan will be centering September's conversations around suicide prevention and what we can do about it. Over a year ago, this podcast was supposed to launch with Lathan and Steve's conversation, but that changed with Steve's death. Lathan has been holding on to that interview until now, and next week he'll release it as a way to honor Steve. The other episodes this month come from Steve's good friends Scott Erickson and Sarah Robinson—two people who knew him well and seek to honor his life through their words. This month is a heavier one for all of us, but these conversations are also a challenge to do something about the stigma around depression and anxiety, especially in the church. September Guests: Steve Austin (September 14th) Scott Erickson (September 21st) Sarah Robinson (September 28th)

Disclaimer: This conversation is about intrusive thoughts, depression, and suicidal desires, and could be triggering for some listeners. No one in this conversation is a trained counselor, therapist, or medical professional. The show is not intended to offer medical advice. If you or someone you know struggles with anything discussed in this episode, please seek professional medical council and assistance.   In this Episode: How many of us deal with depression, anxiety, or intrusive thoughts but don't ever talk about it? In places where we should feel safe, we often fear judgment or feel anxiety while trying to diagnose where our thoughts may be coming from. Not to mention the stigma that comes when we begin discussing mental health with others. On this “best of” God Hears Her episode, Eryn and Elisa revisit a conversation with Sarah J. Robinson where they talk about mental health and Sarah's journey of understanding her own depression.   About Our Guest: Sarah J. Robinson once believed her lifelong battle with depression made her a bad Christian. And yet, through her years of shame, self-harm, and suicide attempts, Sarah learned that God is present in our deepest darkness. Sarah is now an author and speaker who helps others discover that mental illness doesn't disqualify them from living rich, beautiful lives in Christ. This week's guest is Rebecca Gulka, Founder of Teaching with Class, an online English learning school, and amateur comic. Like the host of this podcast, she is an expat as a Canadian based in France. Rebecca studied theatre as an undergraduate and then went into teaching English internationally. Before living in France, Rebecca taught English in Korea, Thailand, Russia, Haiti and China. She taught at a private school in France before making the decision to found her own school. We talk about why she struck out on her own, many of which will resonate with educators or others in service occupations. Amongst those are teacher's wages in France, freedom in curriculum to teach and location to work from. We also delve into the government's role and responsibility for the education of children as well as the equity around technology in online learning. For those who identify as workaholics or find themselves burning out, we also talk about the culture of glorifying busy-ness and overwork and how people are challenging it by looking at what is really important and focussing on that. It isn't all serious. We also talk about Rebecca's comedy and comedy writing practice. Having her own business has allowed her carve out the time and space for herself to write and perform! Note from Rabiah (Host): This was a particularly special chat because it was the first one that I have done in person since starting the podcast. It was a different editing challenge but really cool that the “studio” setup worked. I met Rebecca online in FB comedian groups on on the online circuit. Our chat extended beyond the podcast and we had some very good conversations around comedy, females in comedy and life in general. One of the positive things to come out of the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 was the opportunity to find connection with people online. When they then become in-person connections it is even better! I loved Rebecca's insights and hearing about her experiences and am sure listeners will too. +++++ Find Rebecca Teaching With Class Website: www.teachingwithclass.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rebeccateachingwithclass Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yesyoucanteachthat LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebecca-gulka-128343195/ Comedy Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rebecca.anne.comedy Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rebecca_anne_comedy +++++ Mentioned in this episode: Odessa Series on The Daily: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-daily/id1200361736?i=1000510748504 Sarah Robinson episode of More Than Work: https://www.rabiahsaid.com/podcast/s2e5-sarah-robinson +++++ More than Work Facebook, Instagram, Twitter: @morethanworkpod Please review and follow anywhere you get podcasts.
