Welcome to an audio edition from Unmade.Today: humAIn curator Cat McGinn talks to Jodie Sangster about her new co-venture aimed at upskilling CMOs with AI, the Australian Centre for AI in Marketing, and what's stopping marketers from getting on board with AI transformation. If you've been thinking about upgrading to an Unmade membership, this is the perfect time. Your membership includes:* A complimentary ticket to all of Unmade's events, including HumAIn (6 May 2025), REmade (23 Sept), Unlock (Oct 2025), and Compass Australia (Nov 2025);* Member-only content and our paywalled archives; * Your own copy of Media Unmade. Are marketers being left behind on their AI journeys?A new industry initiative, the Australian Centre for AI in Marketing, snappily abbreviated to ACAM, has been launched by four senior marketing leaders, including former ADMA CEO and IBM CMO, Jodie Sangster. In today's audio-led post, HumAIn curator Cat McGinn sits down with Sangster to find out more about ACAM, its purpose, and whether success means being out of a job for the four founders. According to Sangster, despite the increasing availability of AI tools and investment in AI infrastructure, most marketers are not ready to implement AI in practice. Common barriers include a lack of time, limited understanding of how to apply the technology, and a general sense of scepticism after marketers have been burnt by years of overhyped digital solutions.ACAM's founders claim it has been designed to address these issues by offering education, peer learning, and access to practical tools. Its structure includes a Pioneers Circle—a group of CMOs from a range of industries and AI maturity levels—created to facilitate open sharing of implementation experiences, challenges, and outcomes. The founders also offer a consultancy arm, but are at pains to distinguish the “for-purpose' initiative, which Sangster describes as “a calling,” from the for-profit division. Sangster is clear that ACAM will not act as a policy maker or regulatory body, but will focus on translating evolving frameworks into practical guidance for marketers. “Our role is to help marketers understand how AI applies to their work and how to use it responsibly,” she said.Sangster doesn't see the risk of ACAM putting itself out of business as an imminent threat. “We're still at the very start of AI adoption,” she says. “This is about making sure marketers don't get left behind.”Time to leave you to your Thursday.Good luck at tonight's CommsCon Awards, for those who are in the running. We'll be back with more soon.Have a lovely evening.Cat McGinnHead of Curated Content - Unmade cat@unmade.media This is a public episode. The relationship between Winston Churchill and his leading military advisor, the abrasive General ‘Shrapnel' Alan Brooke (1883–1963), was one of the most productive yet tensest in the history of civil-military relations. This episode delves into some of their strategic debates. Viscount Alanbrooke's relationship with Churchill was famously rocky, yet the two leaders trusted one another. It was due to Brooke's influence that the Americans were persuaded to drop their plan to liberate Italy by starting off with a campaign to take Sardinia and to go for Sicily instead, and he also talked Churchill into dropping plans for an operation in Indonesia. The guest for this episode is Dr Andrew Sangster, an historian and Anglican priest and the author of 17 books, including an acclaimed biography of Alanbrooke. His next book, From Plato to Putin, discusses the causes and ethical dilemmas of war.

"Dracula the Damned" is a 1960 British supernatural horror film produced by Hammer Film Productions starring ‘Big' Christopher Lee… Scratch that…Rather, the original sequel to the first Hammer Dracula film was cancelled without explanation, although Christopher Lee's decision not to return due to fear of typecasting probably led to The Brides of Dracula taking its place. #BigChrisLee did return five years later, however, when he starred in Dracula, Prince of Darkness. The Brides of Dracula is a 1960 British supernatural horror film produced by Hammer Film Productions. Directed by Terence Fisher, the film stars Peter Cushing, David Peel (who wore lifts in his shoes to make him the same height as actor Peter Cushing in the film. Peel, according to his bio at the time, was 5 foot 10. Cushing was six feet tall. To make his vampire look distinguishable from Christopher Lee's, Peel wore a full blonde hairpiece), Yvonne Monlaur, Andrée Melly, Miles Malleson (the hearse driver in the Ealing chiller compendium Dead of Night), Martita Hunt (known for her rich cluster of queens, dowagers, shrews, and evildoers—but it was her brilliant performance as the mad, reclusive Miss Havisham in the classic Great Expectations that earned her international recognition), and Freda Jackson (also an alumna of Great Expectations). Although, the character of Count Dracula does not appear in the film, and is instead mentioned only twice. After the success of Dracula, Hammer commissioned Jimmy Sangster to write a sequel titled Disciple of Dracula, about an acolyte of the vampire, with Count Dracula himself only making a cameo appearance. Sangster's script was rewritten by Peter Bryan to remove references to Dracula, while adding the character of Van Helsing. The screenplay was then further revised by Edward Percy. Filming began on January 16, 1960, at Bray Studios, and the film premiered at the Odeon Marble Arch on July 6. It was distributed theatrically on a double bill with The Leech Woman. The ending was originally planned to have the vampires destroyed by a swarm of bats, but this proved too expensive to stage and shoot, and was also vetoed by Peter Cushing, who did not think his character would perform the black magic required to summon the bats. However, the idea was recycled three years later for the climax of Hammer's The Kiss of the Vampire. The prop department put a lot of effort into making a realistic model bat, but it was lost and had to be replaced on short notice. This explains the unconvincing model bat in the movie. The front doors of Oakely Court served as the main entrance to Meinster Castle. Welcome to my podcast. I am Doctor Warrick Bishop, and I want to help you to live as well as possible for as long as possible. I'm a practising cardiologist, best-selling author, keynote speaker, and the creator of The Healthy Heart Network. I have over 20 years as a specialist cardiologist and a private practice of over 10,000 patients. The episode discusses reduced carbohydrate diets and their effects on cardiovascular health. While such diets may help with weight control and blood sugar levels, there is debate around their long-term safety, especially for those with heart disease or diabetes. Saturated fat intake is known to raise LDL cholesterol, which can increase heart risks. However, monounsaturated fats may be more favorable. The experts discuss how individual responses to diet and cholesterol-lowering medications can vary greatly. They agree these diets can be appropriate for healthy people without heart conditions, but more research is still needed on long-term outcomes. The potential benefits must be weighed against risks for each individual patient.

While LDL is generally considered a risk factor, it may not predict outcomes for every individual. Different types of LDL particles can vary in their risks, with smaller, denser particles posing more issues. Triglyceride levels were also noted as important. Guest Doctor Sangster shared how investigating particle size led to insights. Lowering LDL through diet, statins, or other means seemed to provide benefits to those with demonstrated artery problems.

In this podcast episode, Nicole O'Byrne talks to Joan Sangster about her book Demanding Equality: One Hundred Years of Canadian Feminism published by the University of British Columbia Press in 2021. In Demanding Equality, Joan Sangster weaves together various moments of women's activism over a 100 year period to explore what feminism is in Canada. Sangster delves into the riches of Canadian feminism, beginning with nineteenth-century tracts and continuing beyond the recent intersectional turn. Challenging the popular “wave” theory of feminist history, she argues for the movement's surprising continuity amid decades of social transformation. This comprehensive study revitalizes a wider public conversation about the diverse movement of Canadian feminism past, present, and future. Joan Sangster is Vanier Professor Emeritus at Trent University, and past president of the Canadian Historical Association. She has written countless articles about working women in the labour movement, the history of the left, feminist theory and historiography, the criminalization of women and girls, and Indigenous women and the law. She's the author of several influential books, including One Hundred Years of Struggle: The History of Women and the Vote in Canada, Transforming Labour: Women and Work in Postwar Canada and The Iconic North: Cultural Constructions of Aboriginal Life in Postwar Canada. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, she's held a Killam Fellowship as well as visiting professorships at Duke, Princeton, and McGill Universities. This podcast was produced by Jessica Schmidt.
