From April 26th through August 4th, colorful decor and themed menu items will be available. This time, an all new daytime parade, “Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration!”, will arrive at Disney California Adventure. At Disneyland, the return of “Together Forever: A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” with some new scenes will be performed. Characters like Ember and Wade from “Elemental”, Red Panda Mei from “Turning Red” and more will also be there to celebrate. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/12/disneyland-resort-announces-event-dates-and-more-for-2024/ Hidden in the calendar update was some information about the return of Fantasmic! May 24th will be the premiere of the updated Fantasmic! at Disneyland. When it returns the Pirates of the Caribbean sequence will be transformed back into the Peter Pan sequence, as in the original. New special effects, a “thrilling new battle scene between Sorcerer Mickey and Maleficient” and more should be part of the updated show. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/12/disneyland-resort-announces-event-dates-and-more-for-2024/ A new gift for Magic Key Holders is available for just a couple more days. The Chocolate Peppermint Cookies from Disney's Contemporary Resort, Melted Snowman Sugar Cookies from PizzeRizzo at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Snickerdoodle Cookie with Snockets from EPCOT, the Burbon-Eggnog Snowflake cookies from Jock Lindsey's Hangar Dar in Disney Springs, and finally the Snowman Shortbread from Disneyland. To make these at home, check out the link in our show notes. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/12/disney-eats-5-cookie-recipes-to-celebrate-national-cookie-day/ ToonTown is almost finally out from behind all of the construction walls. The last remaining walls that are up are around Donald's Duck Pond. The rest of the area is open and looks great for guests. Goofy's How to Play Yard has an updated birdhouse, the play side of Donald's Boat has the teeter-totters back, and things generally look great! – https://www.micechat.com/375030-disneyland-update-walts-wishes-third-park-theories-socal-steals/ It's wild out there in the jungle. The Jungle Cruise has a few elements missing at the moment, which may take away from the experience. Squirt, the elephant that sprays water at guests is missing, the temple ruins that used to go over the water have also been removed, and one of the African Bull Elephants is also missing. It is good that they are able to remove some items for refurbishment and not close the attraction, but it seems like a lot at one time. – https://www.micechat.com/375030-disneyland-update-walts-wishes-third-park-theories-socal-steals/ A new breakfast option is at Smokejumpers Grill in Disney California Adventure. Options include a breakfast sandwich, a breakfast burrito, a chorizo burrito, and a breakfast cold brew. – https://thedisneyblog.com/2023/12/03/new-breakfast-menu-at-smokejumpers-grill-at-disney-california-adventure-starts-on-december-6-2023/ This past weekend, the Candlelight Processional took place at Disneyland. The celebrity narrator for this year was none other than Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson! Brie told the story of Christmas so well, and was overcome with emotion during her performance. – https://www.micechat.com/375030-disneyland-update-walts-wishes-third-park-theories-socal-steals/ Discussion Topic: Author and Historian Marcy Carriker Smothers Amazon links – https://www.amazon.com/stores/Marcy-Carriker-Smothers/author/B00D8GZR8S Marcy's Website – https://www.marcycarrikersmothers.com/ Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/marcycarrikersmothers/

Missing the Mouse - A Walt Disney World and Disneyland Podcast
In this classic episode from October 26, 2014 we discuss the removal of the hat in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Sara and Chrissy were totally (and regrettably) sober for the making of this episode. Join us as we discuss the 1940 Walt Disney Pictures animated film, Fantasia. It's a whole lot of classical music, a whole lot of transitional mini -lectures from a man in unforgiving lighting conditions, a whole lot of naked boobies and Sorcerer Mickey! Featuring special guest, Satan. Join us next time when we'll be watching Bolt!www.mouseearsandamovie.comwww.instagram.com/mouseearsandamoviev
You're probably thinking to yourself "Omg, Fantasia (1940)! I loved Sorcerer Mickey - he's so cute." But, what if I told you your childhood brain forced you to forget he actually commits murder in this film? Yea. I know. We were shocked, too.
Disney shattered the world’s view of animation with Snow White, but after that, Walt still wasn’t satisfied. No, Disney continued to push the boundaries with their next film, perhaps even further than they should have. This brought us Fantasia, full of vibrant animation, new techniques in musical recording, and the loveable, iconic Sorcerer Mickey. Don’t miss: The way this film introduced generations of children to classical music and the idea that music can evoke images How Disney created an entirely new sound design system in order to take this film on tour across the country and give theatergoers a full orchestral experience The mastery of animation that this movie requires to characterize so many different worlds and characters with next to no dialogue Our final score for the film, which is shockingly high for a musical without a true narrative throughline PLUS, we talk through all the thoughts our audience had when they watched the movie, including some similarities between one segment of the film and our favorite YouTube video (content warning). Links for you: Our website has our ranking spreadsheet for all the movies we’ve rated so far Join our Ohana for exclusive content and sneak peeks of what’s coming down the line Follow us on Twitter @definingdisney and let us know your thoughts on Fantasia When our transcription is available, we’ll link it here We want to give a special shoutout to our friend Ryan at The Coolness Chronicles for all his love and support for the show! Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE so you don’t miss a single episode, and if you enjoyed this one, please leave us a rating and review. Thanks for listening and we’ll see ya real soon!
The Too Magical team are taking on Fantasia, Johnny Tsunami and the reopening of Walt Disney World.
Episode SummaryErin and Rachel review Disney’s Fantasia (1940) segment by segment and discuss the film’s repeated racist, female objectifying, and fatphobic imagery. But the music and unicorns are pretty! Maybe there’s a reason Disney likes to focus on Sorcerer Mickey when they talk about this film...Episode BibliographyArmstrong, S., Algar, J., Roberts, B., Satterfield, P., Sharpsteen, B., Hand, D.D., Luske, H., Handley, J., Beebe, F., Hee, T., Ferguson, N., & Jackson, W. There was a special early preview of the parade on Thursday, with the official opening on Friday. The new parade has some mixed reviews. From the Weeklyteers in our chat that have seen it, they liked it. Others online thought it wasn’t a good Disney parade. After viewing videos online of the parade during the day and in the evening, this is certainly better experienced in the evening. There are a lot of lighting effects on the floats that are lost in the bright Southern California sun. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/photos-video-new-magic-happens-parade-dazzles-after-dark-with-special-light-effects-at-disneyland/A new Dulche de Leche Sundae has premiered with the Magic Happens parade. The sundae is served in a blue waffle bowl with two scoops of dulce de leche ice cream, bananas, caramel drizzle, and topped with a Mickey shaped sugar cookie, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. Guests can pick up one of these at the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor for $6.99. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/review-celebrate-magic-happens-with-the-dulce-de-leche-sundae-at-disneyland/If you are looking for something sweet, head over to the Plaza Inn to check out their newest dessert! The new cake is inspired by the leading float of the new Magic Happens Parade. The Sorcerer Mickey Cake is a layered white cake with cream cheese frosting and a berry filling. It is decorated with a dark blue icing covered with an edible gold sparkle dust and stars, and topped with a chocolate dipped waffle cone sorcerer hat and two chocolate Mickey ears. Some specialty items were available like a collectible Funko pop and an Indiana Jones tee. Food items that were available include a chocolate Dole Whip, a shaker style salad with crunchy noodles, or a rib bowl with Cantonese barbecue sauce and steamed rice. The food items are available while supplies last through March 8th. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/photos-new-indiana-jones-adventure-25th-anniversary-specialty-food-merchandise-and-exclusive-after-hours-access-for-annual-passholders-revealed-at-disneyland/The Tropical Hideaway has added to their menu again! Dole whip flavors include pineapple, mango, raspberry, and lemon. A new Raspberry-Lemon float has been spotted on the menu. The float starts with a blend of passion fruit, orange and guava, with swirls of raspberry and lemon dole whip, then topped with a candied kiwi slice and diced mangoes and strawberries tossed in a sweet syrup. The rim is coated in toasted coconut bits. If savory foods are more your thing, check out the Loco Moco Bao. This steamed bun is filled with spiced ham, egg, ground beef, and served with a side of mushroom gravy. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/03/review-new-loco-moco-bao-and-raspberry-lemon-dole-whip-float-celebrate-adventureland-day-at-the-tropical-hideaway-in-disneyland/This past Sunday, the third annual Adventureland Day took place at Disneyland. Guests dressed up in their best Adventureland attire, rode on the world famous Jungle Cruise, explored a forbidden temple with Indiana Jones, and took part in a treasure hunt. Later, they headed to Trader Sams for a nice themed beverage or two. – https://www.facebook.com/adventurelandday/The big story on all the news outlets this week is Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. Disneyland is attempting to get ahead of the spread by adding automated hand sanitizer stations to almost every counter service restaurant. The CDC recommeds washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, but if you can’t make it to a restroom, hand sanitizer is the next best thing. Currently, there are no plans to close the resort, like has happened in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and just last week, Tokyo Disneyland. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/03/photos-automated-hand-sanitizer-stations-added-to-nearly-every-counter-service-restaurant-at-disneyland-resort-due-to-coronavirus-concerns/A new Disney Parks Lanyard and Mickey Mouse Pin Trading Bag has come to Disneyland. There is a Mickey Mouse patch, and Disney Pin Trading pull-tabs on the zippers. There are a number of liners inside to pin your collection to. For even more pins, there is a larger Mickey Mouse messenger bag for pin trading. This one is plain black, with the same Mickey patch as the other bag and costs $49.99. – https://wdwnt.com/2020/02/photos-give-your-pin-collection-an-new-look-with-a-new-disney-parks-lanyard-and-mickey-mouse-pin-trading-bags-at-the-disneyland-resort/Want to have that Dole Whip smell even when you are miles away from the real thing? A new Disney Scents Dole Whip pin has been spotted at the resort. Just scratch and then sniff the pin to be transported to the Tropical Hideaway. The pin is $17.99 and can be purchased at Julius Katz and Sons in DCA. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/02/27/scratch-and-sniff-what-spotted-in-disneyland/Previously, we reported on a PB&J treat at the Tropical Hideaway. This week Mousetalgia reports from Disneyland's Candlelight weekend and brings you a holiday report from both the resort and D23's "Light Up The Season" holiday event on the Walt Disney Studios lot. At the D23 event, guests celebrated the season as they met Sorcerer Mickey, played carnival games, ate in the commissary and watched holiday shorts in the studio theater. Then, we discuss Candlelight weekend at the park, and Kristen talks about the Club 33 Candlelight event - the delectable menu, the special viewing of the ceremony, and the special touches that only Club 33 can provide - then we compare that with a viewing of Candlelight from the side of Main Street, and discuss the crowd's response to this cherished holiday tradition. Next, we speak with Ryan Teeple, the voice of "Young Buck" in Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, and learn about this 10-year-old's unique opportunity to lend his personality to a Pixar character. Finally, we're joined by Becky Cline, director of the Walt Disney Archives, to talk about the newly-renovated office suite that used to be occupied by Walt Disney himself on the studio lot. Plus - Carthay Circle, World of Color - Winter Dreams, Viva Navidad, and more.
