The outlets, citing unnamed sources, said the Suns added Durant to a starting lineup that already includes an All-Star backcourt of Chris Paul and Devin Booker, along with center Deandre Ayton. Minnesota is getting Mike Conley Jr. and Nickeil Alexander-Walker from Utah along with three second-round picks, while the Lakers are sending Juan Toscano-Anderson, Damian Jones and their first-round pick in 2027 to Utah with Westbrook. The All-Pro quarterback also says he doesn't expect to be limited by it when he leads the Kansas City Chiefs against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. Mahomes spoke before Wednesday’s practice at Arizona State’s facility. He said he’ll probably continue to get treatment on the ankle he hurt against Jacksonville in the divisional round throughout the week and possibly right up until kickoff. NFL – Super Bowl has rare matchup of top 2 regular-season teams This year's Super Bowl features a rare matchup of the NFL's top two teams from the regular season. The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs were the league's only 14-game winners, marking just the sixth time since the 1970 merger that the squads with sole possession of the two best records in the regular season met for the championship. The last time it happened came after the 2013 season when Seattle beat Denver 43-8 in a matchup of 13-win teams. NCAAFB – Northwestern to host Iowa at Wrigley Field Wrigley Field will host a college football game for the third time since 2010 when Iowa plays Northwestern next season. Northwestern and the Chicago Cubs announced that the Wildcats' home game would be played Nov. 4. Northwestern played Illinois at Wrigley in 2010 in the MLB ballpark's first college football game since 1938 and the Wildcats hosted Purdue there in 2021. Wrigley Field has a long history of hosting football games. The Chicago Bears played there from 1921 to 1970. The old Chicago Cardinals also played at Wrigley Field as well as DePaul University until its program folded in 1939. SPHL – Minor league hockey game a forfeit after home team no-shows A bizarre scene unfolded in a low-level minor hockey league over the weekend: The home team didn't show up. The visiting team from Quad City took the ice for warmups at the arena in Danville, Illinois, for a Southern Professional Hockey League game at the Vermilion County Bobcats. Fans filed in, vendors sold concessions and officials were there to drop the puck. But the Bobcats had no players, their coach did not show up and they had no athletic trainer on site. After a delay of game penalty and 5-minute delay, it was declared a forfeit and visiting players skated with fans and took the 3-hour bus ride home. There are now concerns last-place Vermilion County, which has lost 77 of 86 games in its existence, will fold midseason. Olympics – Probe into US Olympic failings stunted by red tape in DC More than two years since it was greenlighted by Congress, the panel established to probe the inner workings of the U.S. Olympics has yet to conduct a formal interview because of bureaucratic red tape in Washington. The Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics is charged with looking how U.S. leaders handled sex-abuse cases that were mismanaged for decades. It took 19 months after it was established in October 2020 for the commission to receive the $2 million Congress budgeted for its use. Then, it took eight more months to identify and hire the panel's executive director. Now that those issues are resolved, however, the commission has to decide how to spend the money by Sept. 30 or risk not being able to use it. With the score tied at 68 with five seconds remaining, the Yellow Jackets’ Kyle Sturdivant drove the left side of the lane and missed a step-back jumper along the baseline. Terry, who had inbounded the ball after a timeout, followed down the left side and delivered a two-handed tip-in for the victory that snapped a nine-game losing streak. Georgia Tech held Notre Dame to 1-of-11 field goal shooting over the final seven minutes and the Yellow Jackets won despite making only 2 of 8 shots down the stretch. NFL – Super Bowl has rare matchup of top 2 regular-season teams This year’s Super Bowl features a rare matchup of the NFL’s top two teams from the regular season. The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs were the league’s only 14-game winners, marking just the sixth time since the 1970 merger that the squads with sole possession of the two best records in the regular season met for the championship. Northwestern and the Chicago Cubs announced that the Wildcats’ home game would be played Nov. 4. Northwestern played Illinois at Wrigley in 2010 in the MLB ballpark’s first college football game since 1938 and the Wildcats hosted Purdue there in 2021. Wrigley Field has a long history of hosting football games. The Chicago Bears played there from 1921 to 1970. The old Chicago Cardinals also played at Wrigley Field as well as DePaul University until its program folded in 1939. SPHL – Minor league hockey game a forfeit after home team no-shows A bizarre scene unfolded in a low-level minor hockey league over the weekend: The home team didn’t show up. Then, it took eight more months to identify and hire the panel’s executive director. Now that those issues are resolved, however, the commission has to decide how to spend the money by Sept. 30 or risk not being able to use it. It was a ton of fun on the Top Cheddar podcast as Shaun Peet joined Lolly and Mooner to chat about his hockey journey from the BCHL to the Calder Cup and how that journey led to his new career in Nascar Racing! Shaun Peet played in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with his hometown Nanaimo Clippers and the Penticton Panthers. From there, he secured a scholarship to Dartmouth College and played four years. After he graduated from Dartmouth, Peet played 7 years of professional hockey. He played in the Western Professional Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League, Central Hockey League, Southern Professional Hockey League and the American Hockey League. That included a run to the Calder Cup (AHL Championship) with the Wilkes-Barre Penguins in 2000-01. While on a hockey suspension, a chance meeting led to an opportunity to tour the inner workings of Nascar. Well, one thing led to another and soon a new career path was on tap for Shaun. That work also led to being in the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby In addition to coaching in NASCAR, Peet is also an author, motivational speaker, and business consultant with DECK Leadership, who inspires the modern workplace through pit crew strategies. Here is more on his book, 12 second culture https://www.12secondculturebook.com/ Big thanks to the awesome team at Troubled Monk Brewery. On this episode of Blue Line Banter I am joined by Chuck Norris, owner of the Fayetteville Marksmen, a veteran-owned and operated professional hockey team competing in the most elite independent hockey league in the United States, the Southern Professional Hockey League. Our discussion covered Chuck’s background and early days attending Detroit Red Wings games with his father, lessons learned as a member of the 3rd Special Forces Group and Paratrooper in the United States Army, the importance of doing things the right way, and his purchase of the Fayetteville Marksmen in April of 2017. Chuck Norris is the kind of guy you want leading you into battle and certainly someone I would never bet against. He had me ready to run through a couple brick walls after our discussion and I hope you find the conversation as inspiring as I did. Thanks for tuning in.

He currently serves as the Play-By-Play Voice of the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, broadcasting play-by-play for Southern Professional Hockey League games. InGoal had a chance to catch up with Scott Darling just as fans in his hometown Chicago celebrating the five-year anniversary of him helping the Blackhawks win the 2015 Stanley Cup, and as usual it was an entertaining and informative chat with the 31-year-old self-described goaltending geek. Darling shared tips and insights from a 10-year pro career that includes stops everywhere from the Southern Professional Hockey League right up to the NHL, and over to Austria last season, how Covid-19 has affected his plans for the immediate future both on and off the ice, including a cancelled wedding, and his plans to keep playing. He talked about important lessons he learned about managing his game as a backup sometimes caught between being target practice for teammates and needing to stay sharp himself, including for that crucial First Round relief appearance that helped Chicago win the Cup in 2015; how he learned that there is such a thing as studying too much video of yourself; his early inspirations and first set of pads and ensuing gear obsession, including how he came to have a glove model linked to his name; and the grassroots origin story of why he will never again wear anything other than pads and gloves from Brian’s Custom Sports.

Shannon Szabados says she wants to have fun and play hockey, not engage in a war of words through the media with her former coach. After the Canadian goalie was released Monday by the Peoria Rivermen, just two games into the Southern Professional Hockey League season, head coach Jean-Guy Trudel told CBC Sports that he only signed the 30-year-old as a "package deal" in order to get defenceman Carl Nielsen, a friend of Szabados, and that their relationship was "cancerous" within the dressing room. Are “office” relationships ever a good thing? A Sedgewick, Alta. man says he's thrilled that he will be getting the $67,692.50 jackpot from a 50/50 raffle at a recent Edmonton Oilers hockey game. "It's very exciting and yeah it's amazing," said Clayton Hinkey on Thursday. He reiterated his plan to give $30,000 of his winnings to three different charities. The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation announced earlier in the day that it will award the full prize to Hinkey even though he missed the deadline to claim the prize. The mayor of Trent Hills is back on Canadian soil, free of the cancerous tumour in his pancreas that Ontario wouldn't help him with and ready to give them Hec. "There was an attempted murder on me but I survived thanks to the medical professionals in Germany," Hector Macmillan said as he landed Thursday from Germany. "I am alive and well and ready to fight some more. They saw what I could do sick. Now they will see what I can do healthy." Bad news for Premier Kathleen Wynne and Health Minister Eric Hoskins. Good news for people in need of modern cancer surgery.

The Huntsville Havoc are a mainstay of the Southern Professional Hockey League, one of 10 outlaw minor league hockey teams affixed together in a region of the United States that isn't known for its winter ice sports. Havoc Director of Ticket Sales Cline Thompson explains why the SPHL and the team have been able to be successful, despite the unification of several other minor league hockey teams in the CHL, which helped cause a drastic ripple effect across the sports business landscape. Thompson discusses the Havoc's methods of marketing, especially against SEC football and other "town closers" in order to fill the stands during their season and continue to pack the house with crazy promotions such as "Weiner Dog Racing On Ice."
