Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the available upgrades for the team at the wide receiver position -- and what's lacking from that group. The Steelers have been linked to San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel over the last few days, and many fans have expressed frustration at the team once again finding an older, less-expensive option instead of landing a true No. 1 wide receiver. The only problem with that frustration is that the Steelers do not have a true No. 1 wide receiver available to them. The Cincinnati Bengals are almost certainly not going to let Tee Higgins come here, and after him, it's a steep drop-off in terms of who is available. Chris Godwin, coming off a major knee surgery, is the only other top free agent set to hit the market, with second-tier options like Amari Cooper, D'Andre Hopkins, Stefon Diggs and Keenan Allen all aging, coming off poor seasons, injuries, or all of the above. The 2025 NFL Draft has no sure things in terms of top wide receivers. Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka appears to be a can't-miss prospect, but has a lower ceiling than most players considered in the first round. The rest appear to be dart throws of varying levels of risk or smaller receivers that duplicate what the Steelers already have in Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin III. Simply put, a major upgrade at wide receiver won't be easy to come by. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the position groups that matter for the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Senior Bowl. The DL and RB classes are a strength, and the Steelers will certainly take notice of them down in Mobile. Artie Smith paid a close attention to the WR group today and we discuss who could be fits. How likely are they to double dip at any position? Do we think the Ravens running for 300 yards intensifies their desire to add to their DL? Where is the biggest drop-off in talent from Round 1 to Round 2? Could a Seumalo retirement open the door for a James Daniels reunion? Let's go for another Steelers Afternoon Drive and discuss! Steelers insider Mark Kaboly from the Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Pittsburgh guy AQ Shipley said the Steelers will get pounded by the Ravens tomorrow – does Mark agree w/ his Pat McAfee cohort? Mark talked about the officiating crew in the game tomorrow. Some breaking news as the Ravens waived Diontae Johnson, which provided some reaction. But what about Mike Williams and the Steelers and his lack of participation so far? Mark talked about the job done by Arthur Smith so far and what else he would like to see. More w/ Mark – We reacted to the Diontae Johnson news a little bit more as the former Steelers WR just set millions of dollars on fire by his exit in Baltimore. 3 teams in the span of 9 months isn't a good look. When it comes to the guy the Steelers got back for him – we discussed if Donte Jackson will play tomorrow. How much of a loss is DeShon Elliott for a game like this? The guys asked Mark about the tandem in the backfield and what kind of split we will see tomorrow. More w/ Mark – Mark talked about his time in the middle school band when he played trumpet. Mark does not think Diontae Johnson will end up back in Pittsburgh. Mark doesn't like the Steelers chances to win the game tomorrow, but still says they have a ‘great shot' to win the North. Who needs to have a big game besides Russell Wilson for the Steelers to win? Mark is curious as to how healthy TJ Watt will look. We quizzed Mark on a few Steelers-Ravens questions.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's what's gone wrong with the Steelers offense, which managed a meager output against the Philadelphia Eagles last week without star wide receiver George Pickens. Most of the ire has been directed at offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, despite the team's lack of playmaking ability at wide receiver and inability to keep teams from stacking the box against the run has been obvious all year. It's been obvious to anyone that Steelers general manager Omar Khan dropped the ball in terms of the wide receiver position this offseason, and that without Pickens, this offense would be nearly non-functional from a talent perspective. When did all of that become Smith's fault? Alan breaks it down.#steelers #herewego Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The NFL is taking a deeper look into the altercation between Pittsburgh Steelers' wideout George Pickens and Cleveland Browns defensive back Greg Newsome, and it seems Pickens is on thin ice with the league. Starkey and Crowley disagree on Pitt's football expectations. The Pitt debate continues. Dorin chimes in. Zadarius Smith has been traded to the Lions. Jason Mackey provides his choice for the best fit at WR, who will have the biggest impact on the Steelers defense in the second half, what should Tomlin be asked. Starkey and Crowley disagree on Pitt's football expectations.
Pitt got blown out at SMU. Is the season already a success? It wasn't good on Saturday, but it has been good. James Franklin did what he always does against OSU. Franklin should stay at PSU regardless, it could be a lot worse. An analogy to Jamie Dixon's time at Pitt. Penn State is second tier, but that means still in the top 10 every year. Would 11-1 and the playoffs be a step forward? How bout a successful year for Pitt? This should be the springboard year to bigger things. 9-3 would be a success. What teams are better than PSU annually? Crowley lists 8 of them. How much do coaches matter with NIL money playing such a huge role? There's a ton of parity in CFB. Sidney Crosby has been going off, and the Pens have won two in a row. How does it compare to the Capitals? Jared Triolo won a Gold Glove, but he probably shouldn't play that much.Baltimore and Cincy both won yesterday. Are the Steelers going to make a trade? The Steelers are looking to buy cheap on WRs. Darius Slayton, Chris Olave, the Seahawks receivers have all been discussed. WR has been a hole all season. Khan should receive significant criticism if no WR is acquired. Have the Steelers been too patient with the WR targets? They need some help with the Ravens and Bengals looking good lately. A caller suggests Gabe Davis. Crowley's Steelers WR trade wish list: 1. Olave, tied 2. Slayton, Metcalf, Lockett. Is Tyler Boyd an option? Is this one of Mike Tomlin's best seasons? Crowley is getting heat for suggesting Olave to the Steelers. Jason Kelce smashed a rude fan's phone on Saturday. It's not the same as James Franklin arguing with a fan. Mark Kaboly joins in studio to discuss Jason Kelce's reaction, if the Steelers will make a WR trade and who he'd target. Tyreek Hill?? This year is a chance to take a big step forward, but more help is needed. Steelers should be getting healthy very soon. Can the defense hold up against the elite team on the schedule. A trip around the NFL. How much better are the Ravens than previous years? Will John Harbaugh hold them back? Are the Bengals a threat? Crowley once accidently gave out his phone number instead of the stations. Kaboly tweeted from Crowley's computer. The Browns are worse than expected, but the Commanders are better. The timing of the games is difficult down the stretch. Can the Steelers get to 10 wins? They need a home playoff game. 9 wins for Pitt would be a success. Prior to the season, 6 wins seemed reasonable. SMU was more talented. Would Steelers fans sign up for 10 wins and the playoffs? Is there any scenario where both Russ and Fields are on the Steelers next year? Can Russ be had for a discount? Will the Steelers use Fields this season? Arthur Smith has been a pleasant surprise. Broderick Jones is bad now. Are the Steelers among the best teams in all 3 phases? Steelers are a 2.5 point underdog at Washington. Would 8-2 start give the Steelers the division title? Pitt MBB starts tonight and they need to make the tournament.

Alan answered two questions from the audience about what might be holding them back from have done so. Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's whether offensive coordinator Arthur Smith can scheme his way around the team's wide receiver shortage. After trading away Diontate Johnson and missing out on Brandon Aiyuk, the Steelers will go into the season without much established receiving talent outside of George Pickens and Pat Freiermuth. That's going to lead to increased attention from defenses toward those two players. Can Smith scheme up the offense in such a way that the lesser-skilled players down the line in Pittsburgh's pecking order can also get open? There's good news on that front. He did last year in Atlanta. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Jason tackles those questions, then gets into some Steelers topics. Is there really a competition at tackle? May 8, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 129 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the ever-dwindling list of free agent wide receivers now available on the heels of recent signings around the NFL. We then look at the state of the wide receiver depth chart that the Pittsburgh Steelers currently have and debate if that group is still one significant player short. Are the Steelers still attempting to maybe trade for a wide receiver? If they are, who would their trade targets be and why? We get into that discussion in the middle of this show. There are a few more Steelers rookie minicamp invites to discuss in this show, so we do just that. Additionally, we discuss the official jersey numbers that have been announced for the members of the 2024 draft class. Alex and I briefly discuss what he saw on tape when it comes to the Steelers fourth round draft pick this year, OG Mason McCormick. We also talk a little bit about another one of the team's seven draft picks this year, ILB Payton Wilson. Former Steelers WR Antonio Brown had some things to say concerning his old team during a recent interview with Jason Whitlock on his show, so we quickly recap those talking points. I update the cash spending of the Steelers now that the draft is over with. We discuss where more cash might be spent moving forwards into the offseason. Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Nick Farabaugh of SteelersNow.com.The Pittsburgh Steelers are rumored to be in the NFL trade market for a playmaker wide receiver, but who do they want? Chris Carter and Nick Farabaugh rank reasonable options like the Denver Broncos' Courtland Sutton, Seattle Seahawks' D.K. Metcalf, as well as the San Francisco 49ers' Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Who would be the best fit for Arthur Smith's new offense that should feature Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback? Also, the Steelers selected Michigan wide receiver Roman Wilson in the NFL Draft. But where does Wilson fit in their offense? Chris and Nick see Wilson as a big play threat wide receiver with a lot more potential than just being a slot wide receiver.
